As Lawn, Rui Gabriel and Mac Folger's sharp, jittery rock triangulates the space between the Shins, Parquet Courts and Pavement. This solo debut instead opts for a gorgeously warm light-footed pop that roams freely. The co-founder of acclaimed band Lawn combines ethereal pop with '80s synth textures, and slacker-rock charm on the 'Compassion' album. It's got a bit of Matthew E. White, chilled out BC Camplight and Conor Oberst. It is a mature and multi-layered shift from post-punk to a more pop-oriented sound. A bold and refreshing debut that hints at a promising solo career. Released on yellow vinyl.
