Pieck, Martijn
L'anormalitÉ//la DÉviance (+book)
If the struggle of mankind against an indifferent suburban landscape would have a soundtrack, it would be Martijn Pieck's new release 'L'Anormalité // La Déviance'. Armed with a camera and a sound recorder, Martijn has explored our suburbs. The pictures turned into scores with which the audio was structured, layered and altered. The result is a beautiful and empathic analysis of our struggle to carve out a meaningful existence at the edges of today's cities. Five artists (Willem Besselink, Zeno van den Broek, Lard Buurman, Julie Dassaud and Uli Kürner) responded to Martijn's compositions with intriguing visual work. Released as one comprehensive artwork, sounds and vision reinforce each other and present the listener with a piercing vision on urban life. The release is limited to 200 hand-numbered editions, no reprints and no online streaming. The package contains a CD, five high quality, full color postcards, an essay and background information. All packaged in translucent silver plastic sleeve.
