Ibm 1401 - A User's Manual (2lp)
This album needs some introduction! Initially Johann Johannsson recorded the music based on the story of the first computer on Iceland, but soon after it also functioned as the soundtrack of a dance performance. The story is about the downfall of that IBM computer. Johann Gunnarson, "the PC father" and maintenance man of the computer, got intrigued by its sound waves and as a result created a piece of immense "machine musik". This was used during the farewell ceremony of the computer. Inspired by those recordings, Johann Johannsson created this work full of intrinsic beauty. Eight notes form the chorus, which remains present throughout the entire work, laying the foundation for the simple splendor that radiates from each of its five parts.
