Songs From The Rocks
This release takes us back to the early beginnings of the Gear Fab Label in 1986. GF101 was Gear Fab's first release: a 45 picture jacket by founder Roger Maglio's cover band The Borrowed Times, 'Walk Away Rene' b/w 'Tobacco Road.' GF102, another picture jacket 45, contained two tracks from 'Songs From The Rocks': 'A Cold Day In December,' on 9 December, 1980, one day after the assignation of John Lennon, b/w 'Flower Child.' GF103 was a full length LP containing 9 tracks, 8 original compositions and one cover. Roger plays all the instruments on the album, which feature some nice heavy organ, fuzz guitar and string arrangements, as well as a surf tune about the beaches of Long Island back in the 1960s.

"Bob Balch here. When Gary Arce mentioned that Yawning Man was gonna record and we should do another round of Yawning Balch jams I was super stoked. I'll always jam with those guys. Once the invite was extended I knew I had to drop some money on new pedals. Haha. Not that I don't have enough already but jamming with Yawning Man means you have to build a massive pedal board and try to get the most "out there" sounds you can. At least that's what it means to me. Another aspect is once we start jamming I like to improvise riffs but keep them in mind so I can return to them throughout the jam. It was an honor to share a few hours playing with those dudes and I'm always surprised how much material we get out of it. Volumes 3 and 4 were recorded in one five hour session April 20th, 2024 in Joshua Tree, CA."

Heat Fury
Night Collectors was birthed outta the opaque permahaze of the SF Bay Area in the last decade. Their sound - a psychedelic and unyielding droning rock & roll; a modal blues at turns smeared and incisive and always reaching, reaching, reaching for transcendence. Their dead-level street gospel is disseminated live at peaked volumes amid stroboscopic light washes for a hypno-narcosis, all in one painless pill. 'Heat & Fury' came about in fits and starts amid the pandemic era and after many years of rehearsing and live performances. The group's initial recordings took place in Oakland at the famed Tiny Telephone studios, in February of 2020. When the societal shutdown took hold - and with only a few tracks recorded and no telling when a return to a studio or in-person playing would occur - it was decided to scrap the idea of a full length and release two of the tracks via a 7" (on Debacle Records). Once the lock was lifted and life returned to its usual ways, NC returned to the studio in 2022/2023 to finish up the album they had started years earlier. They now present to the world and its yearning ears, their rock'n'roll offering on record. Only a handful available here, so first come, first served.

The smells emanating from Mojo's kitchen recall bands like Black Sabbath, Wishbone Ash and Pink Floyd.

Trevor Watts, who turned 85 this year, is a revered yet underrated saxophonist in the jazz world. A pioneer of the free jazz movement in London, he co-founded the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and created the influential group Amalgam. Watts also initiated the Global Jazz genre with his 35-piece The Drum Orchestra, blending African percussion with jazz improvisation. In recent years, he has collaborated closely with pianist Veryan Weston and percussionist Jamie Harris in a trio called Eternal Triangle, which tours extensively and showcases innovative compositions rich in melody and rhythm. This year marks the release of their first studio and live album. 'Moving On (Live in Nijmegen)' is the second release by Podium JIN, known for unique live concerts in Nijmegen's Galloway Studio. Recorded live in one take and limited to 300 copies, it is the second jazz release on the new Sound Of Niche label. The trio delivers new compositions, some played live for the first time, with grooving percussion, electronic bass lines, and joyous themes. Watts deconstructs and improvises in his signature style, playing with youthful energy at 84. A thrilling mix of free jazz, jazz rock, and world jazz, this release is a rare chance to experience Watts' best work in years.

"This collection gathers a set of classic Tito Puente tracks from his decade long stint with the RCA Victor label with a very specific set of criteria: to assemble the best tracks that exemplify the blueprint for what would become known as salsa. Though it may seem obvious or perhaps even a fool's errand to dedicate a compilation to this theme, since everything Tito recorded was full of "salsa y sabor" (sauce and flavor), it's actually perhaps the first of its kind in that every recording here is specifically chosen for today's salsa dancers, in whichever style they choose to dance, with an emphasis on the guaguancó rhythm and mambo arrangement. Tito's RCA sessions produced the most high quality, incredible sounding recordings of the epoch, and they more than hold their own by today's sonic standards. For this reason, Grosso! has collected two dozen of Tito's finest golden era nuggets for the dance floor, with a concerted emphasis on midtempo numbers with clear percussion patterns that easily fit the modern salsa aesthetic. Many of these tracks, such as 'Cuando Te Vea,' 'Complicación,' 'Agua Limpia Todo,' 'Con Sandunga' and 'Guaguancó Margarito' are directly connected to traditional Afro-Cuban rumba or Santería rituals through their original composers, rhythm structure, lyrical content and melodies. Roi De L'agbadja Moderne 1974-1983 (2lp)
Gnonnas Pedro's 'Mo Ngbadun Re' - a song written to pay tribute to Nigerian and Beninese musicians - would change the trajectory of Analog Africa, forever. And while the Nigerian artists were more or less familiar to Samy (the label founder), when Gnonnas began singing about 'Picoby,' 'Renova,' 'Annasoua Jazz,' 'Super Borgou,' 'Super Star,' 'El Rego,' 'Black Santiago' and other bands from Benin that he'd never heard of, he was driven to find out more. The conclusion of this musical experience was that if a star like Gnonnas Pedro sang about these bands it could only mean that he knew something that we didn't. Could it be that the Benin Republic had more to offer than its size suggested? There was only one way to find out. Samy arrived in Cotonou in August of 2005 and that's how a Gnonnas Pedro song brought Analog Africa to Benin, and the rest is history. While 4 songs by this magnificent artist were included in the compilation 'Legends Of Benin' from 2009, this time Analog Africa has the huge honour to present a full and deserved project about Gnonnas Pedro, the king of Modern Agbadja. Very early in his career our friend had landed his first hit with a song called 'Dadje Von O Von Non.' It was an Agbadja, an ancestral rhythm played during burial ceremonies in Le Mono, the region where Gnonnas Pedro's family came from. Gnonnas adapted, modernised and coined it 'Agbadja Modern' and that's how he became known and beloved as 'Roi de l'Agbadja Moderne.' Almost a decade later, in the mid-'70s, Gnonnas secured a deal with African Songs Ltd and later with the Take Your Choice (TYC), two labels out of Nigeria. At that period Gnonnas had been recording and performing for a decade, and while a few of the original band members had left, the majority of the musicians had stayed with him. The relatively consistent membership of Les Dadjes meant that they had developed into a well-oiled groove machine by the time the 'Nigerian years' began. The various masterpieces the band recorded between 1975 and 1980 in Lagos catapulted Gnonnas Pedro to superstardom back home in Benin, but also made him a name in other West African countries, where his songs were regularly broadcast on the national airwaves. Sometimes called 'The Band That Speaks All African Languages' for their ability to perform songs in numerous languages Les Dadjes also spoke all kinds of rhythms, with a special emphasis on Cuban and Benin rhythms. Around 1980, Gnonnas fulfilled the lifelong dream of starting his own label and one of the first albums on the newly founded Gnoinsopé label included the track 'Yiri Yiri Boum,' which took Benin by storm and cemented Gnonnas as one of the country's most important artists. The double-LP 'Roi De L'Agbadja Moderne 1974-1983' from Analog Africa comes as a gatefold with a full-color 8-page booklet including photos. Featuring 16 of Gnonnas' finest songs that resonated across the African continent, the unique blend of Agbadja, Cuban fon, jerk, highlife, and other African rhythms sung in Fon, Mina, Yoruba, French, English, and even Spanish offers a truly unique musical journey.
