Can't Help The Way I Feel/deeper Love
Originally conceived as a digital-only loosie, XL Middleton's 'Can't Help The Way I Feel' was first released on wax in 2015 by Ghost's Spectrum Records label. The Parisian DJ/producer was just opening the doors of his label and saw the potential in XL's track, a modern boogie gem that lives in the gray area between edit and full-on original song. A rare sample flip from XL Middleton combines with his signature lead synth lines, keys, and pads. What Ghost saw in 'Can't Help The Way I Feel' proved to be on point too - The original 7" sold out, was repressed a few years later, and now both pressings fetch heavy sums in the second hand market. To this day the song remains a staple in boogie/funk sets worldwide, and was even sampled by DJ Fresh for his 'ToniteShowalbum' with Jay Worthy & Mitchy Slick. Thus, a third repress has been overdue. This time, Spectrum goes all out, reissuing 'Can't Help The Way I Feel' with full color artwork jacket, and a new b-side by Ghost himself, 'Deeper Love,' not included on previous pressings. 'Deeper Love' features Ghost's signature cinematic late '80s-inspired synth riffs, which take cues from soundtracks of the era as well as UK street soul.
