Repress! Protest and Spirit Jazz from France 1970-1976 explores the radical energy of free jazz. While rock fueled revolution, Black American musicians like Ornette Coleman and Archie Shepp shattered musical boundaries, using saxophones as weapons of change. In 1969, the Art Ensemble of Chicago arrived in Paris, blending African roots with avant-garde improvisation. Their collaboration with Saravah Records led to Comme à la radio (1970), where Brigitte Fontaine's poetic chanson met the Ensemble's voodoo jazz and Areski Belkacem's Arab influences_a groundbreaking fusion of sound and politics.
