Choice Remixes 2008-2022
Kay Suzuki's musical journey, shaped by iconic London sound systems like Plastic People and Beauty and the Beat, explores the transformative power of high-quality audio. His remix collection, spanning 15 years, reflects his fascination with percussive rhythms, blending broken beat, house, and dub influences across the Black Atlantic. The A-side opens with a dub-infused rework of Gaoulé Mizik's Gwoka rhythm, 'A Ka Titine,' merging electronic effects with Creole heritage. Next, Suzuki reshapes Broki's Afro-Latin 'Es Que Lo Es,' bridging London and San Juan through a refined bruk rhythm. On the B-side, Blackbush Orchestra's 'Sortez, Les Filles!' is reimagined as a vibrant Balearic house track, enhancing its Senegalese percussion. The final track, 'Oyelo' by Sunlightsquare, strips out the kick drum to create an "imaginary four-to-the-floor" groove, leaving listeners immersed in a floating, rhythmic universe. The record comes with a 2-page insert.
