Space Afrika
Honest Labour (white)
Space Afrika's 'Honest Labour' captures what they call "overlapping moments" - a collage of rhythms, textures, and voices, reminiscent of half-heard conversations on a rainy night. This Manchester-based duo's release builds on their 2020 mixtape 'hybtwibt?' by adding classical strings, shimmering guitars, and haunting vocal features, deepening their fusion of ambient and cosmic downtempo sounds. The album, created during the isolating days of lockdown, explores themes of solitude and introspection, channeling the melancholy and uncertainty of life under Covid. Named in honor of co-founder Joshua Inyang's resilient Nigerian ancestor known as 'Honest Labour,' the album represents both personal heritage and the dedication behind their art. Through file-sharing across borders, Inyang and collaborator Joshua Reid crafted 19 interconnected tracks that transcend their dub-techno roots, achieving a unique synergy. This album, an homage to U.K. energy, explores love and loss with a dreamlike, open-ended quality, reflecting Space Afrika's ambition to push their creative boundaries. Released on ruby white vinyl.
