Nolla is probably better known as 4/5 of Kaliyuga Express, but these experienced musicians started playing together as Nolla around 2019. The plan was simply to play a driving, motorik style of "no bs" spacerock/krautrock. A kind of spacerock that simply does what it says on the tin. After their debut LP on Spiral Void Records in 2021, they immediately started working on new material, and the results are finally here. Even though the music may paint dystopian views of empty cities of glass and steel, devoid of anything human, and travels deep into the black, icy coldness of space, the throbbing pulse under it all is always a warm, loving heart, which is also always the source of their music. 'Graniittisutra' draws from the same cosmic vein as its companion album 'Avaruusmieli.' The spacerock/motorik tradition is propelled further with the help of two special collaborators. Side one opens with 'E.E.V.V.' which reverberates from deep Gregorian space, with Meronian lyrics commissioned from Circle/Pharaoh Overlord/Mahti legend Jussi Lehtisalo. The second track 'Vieras' is Nolla joining forces with free jazz virtuoso Sami Pekkola on tenor sax. The title track fills the entire flipside. This is Nolla at their rawest and perhaps best. Totally live, totally improvised, with no overdubs. Limited to 300 copies on eco black vinyl with double sided colour insert.
