Murray, Sunny/robert Andreano/bob Dickie
Homework
'Homework' is a rare, captivating session led by avant-garde drumming pioneer Sunny Murray, originally recorded in 1994 and reissued by NoBusiness. Guitarist Robert Andreano, who was just 22 at the time, and bassist Bob Dickie join Murray for this fully improvised recording. Perceived as an homage to the experimental spirit of Albert Ayler's Bells, and unlike Murray's usual free-form pulse, this session surprises with unconventional grooves and rhythmic explorations, as showcased in tracks like 'Swell.' Andreano's electric guitar, with its Hendrix-like nuances, and Dickie's bass respectfully complement Murray's inventive drumming. The reissue features an uncut version, including the nearly 20-minute solo piece 'Why You Need A Lawyer When Your Pants on Fire.'
