Melodic Art-tet
Melodic Art-tet (2lp)
The Lithuanian label NoBusiness unearths another gem from NYC's loft jazz era with Melodic Art-Tet's 1974 live WKCR broadcast, the only known recording of the group. Unlike many fiery free jazz acts, the Melodic Art-Tet focused on accessible, well-rehearsed music, blending Charles Brackeen's abstract reed work with Ahmed Abdullah's boppish, folk-inspired trumpet. Supported by William Parker's dynamic bass and Roger Blank's tuneful drumming, their sound moves seamlessly through mini-suites. Available as a CD or double LP, this 79-minute session offers a rare, fascinating glimpse into the diversity of jazz during this pivotal era.
