Well I Asked You A Question
Since releasing 2022's 'The Consistent Brutal Bullshit Gong,' Market's Nate Mendelsohn has deepened his ties to Brooklyn's music scene, producing albums for Frankie Cosmos and Dougie Poole, performing with Vagabon and Sam Evian, and collaborating with Yaeji and Lady Lamb. His 2024 effort, 'Well I Asked You A Question,' reflects influences from artists like Pet Sounds and Blonde, blending physical and synthetic sounds: sampled and real orchestras ('Fantasy'), robotic spoken word and human choirs ('Around'), and noise solos over rock instrumentation ('Rachel's Getting Married'). Mendelsohn worked with the Market band -Stephen Becker, Natasha Bergman, and Duncan Standish- plus contributions from Katie von Schleicher, Mike Haldeman, and others. The record captures "musical accidents with frayed edges," aiming for raw humanity despite its complexity. Lyrically, it explores the tension between inner and outer dialogue, inviting listeners on a journey through sound and introspection.
