Hannah Barberas
Fantastic Tales Of The Sea
The Hannah Barberas sprang into being in 2019 with a clutch of home-made, self-released EPs that were way better than they had any right to be. Fronted by the genuinely star-powered and widely adored Lucy Formolli and the characterful baritone of Damien Devaney, The Hannah Barberas also bring the shiniest of guitars backed by the skipping drums of Matthew Chalkley, and beefy bass from Ian Evans. Their debut album 'Into The Wild,' released on Spinout Nuggets in 2020, gifted the world the rockabilly wit of 'Ted Wedding,' the sharp edged 'What Are You Celebrating?' and the tender and affecting 'I Can't Go Outside.' All the while sounding like nobody but the HBs. The album 'Fantastic Tales Of The Sea' is basically the same but more so. Again, loaded with smart lyricism, sharp melodies and hooks you could throw your hat on. Only this time they've added a horn section and expanded the music to include some old-school soul, disco and even a bit of country. However, fans of DIY indie pop should not worry. This is the real deal. Limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.
