Group
Live
The Lithuanian label NoBusiness continues its stellar work with the release of The Group, an overlooked supergroup from the late '70s and early '80s featuring Ahmed Abdullah, Marion Brown, Billy Bang, Andrew Cyrille, Sirone, and Fred Hopkins. This live recording showcases their blend of jazz tradition and free improvisation. Highlights include their powerful take on Mingus' 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat,' filled with both sorrow and anger, and Abdullah's arrangement of Miriam Makeba's 'Amanpondo,' bringing African roots to New York. The album is a vital missing link in jazz history, with excellent liner notes enhancing its value.
