Cinque, Michele
Sicily Jass: The World's First Man In Jazz (+cd
This DVD plus CD set presents director Michele Cinque's documentary and its music, telling the largely forgotten story of cornet player Nick La Rocca. The son of Sicilian immigrants in the USA, La Rocca was the leader of the Original Dixieland Jass band. In 1917 this New Orleans-based combo went to NYC to record the first ever jazz record. The CD features the ODJB's historical 1917 recordings, along with a selection of extra tracks by illustrious contemporaries such as Louis Armstrong, Joe Venuti, Bix Beiderbecke, Fletcher Henderson and others. Amazing recordings from the beginning of jazz, over 100 years old.
