Bismuth
On this self titled album, Yuri Landman's specific sounding home made instruments join together in holy matrimony with Arnold van de Velde's loop based beats and edgy guitar riffs. Creating a very distinctive sound only they could achieve. It's sonic madness like you won't experience a lot, created by actively beating strings, strumming bells and connecting wires. The 'electric noise' that comes out of their quite unique and interesting musical approach is combined with drum loops and guitar, shaping the weird sounds into proper songs, making them sound more like early Sonic Youth than some sort of ambient band. Bismuth certainly makes for one of the most interesting acts around and will surely draw a lot of attention to them with this magnificent debut album.
