Anchors

Black Soul

'Black Soul' (1972) is the final album by The Anchors, a Johannesburg soul group that initially embraced Memphis soul but evolved into a pioneering Afro-rock and jazz fusion sound. Originally part of South Africa's soul scene alongside The Beaters and The Movers, The Anchors helped lay the groundwork for later Afro-fusion acts like Batsumi and Harari. The album features legendary musicians such as Zacks Nkosi, kwela star Little Kid Lex Hendricks, and Banza Kgasoane. Now remastered and reissued by Matsuli Music, 'Black Soul' captures a crucial moment in South Africa's musical evolution.
