Bull Run's only ever full-album release on Peppermint is a hard acid rock piece of perfection, a rare and excellent album. The songs, created in 1971, reflect the creativity, musicianship, and artistry that defined Bull Run. Though many versions exist, these tracks represent the album Jimmy Conner, the visionary behind the band intended, but never released. Ready to move beyond pop and cover tunes, the trio dove into original, heavier material, and the Youngstown seasoned musicians immersed themselves in creating original lyrics and arrangements, forging a new sound. One that exemplified their dedication. Despite hard work and signing contracts with regional bookers and labels, mainstream success eluded them. However, their creative muse remained local in Youngstown. Bull Run hits us hard with twisted rhythms, heavy, doom-filled riffs, and a chaotic tone, evoking the feel of an undiscovered proto-metal gem from the past.

Tokyo playwrite, director and artist J.A. Caesar sprang to prominence in the early '70s largely through his work with Shuji Terayama's Tenjo Sajiki Theatre, specializing in vaguely sinister music. The 'Kokkyou Junreika' release, often considered Caesar's finest work, was culled from the 5 hours of music written for the original play distilled down to an album's worth of ageless chants, Budhist mantras, heavenly invocations and fuzztone guitar vamps supported by Caesar's droning electric organ and the eerie female vocals of Yoko Ran, Keiko Shinko and Seigo Showa. An album that sits comfortably alongside early Ash Ra Temple, Cosmic Jokers and ATEM-period Tangerine Dream.

The summer of soul collides with the acid rock revolution in this 1969 opus originally licensed by MCA sub label UNI (roster of talented artists such as Strawberry Alarm Clock, Hugh Masekela and Fever Tree). The sole album by US power trio Fields is a majestic blues rock effort, arranged by cultish producer Gene Page ('Blacula' soundtrack, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, The Whispers, Gladys Knight, etc.). The short-lived Los Angeles band was clearly influenced by the likes of Cream and Vanilla Fudge and featured backing vocals from Motown/Northern Soul heroine Brenda Holloway, a clear sign of their eccentric vision.

A collection of rare recordings starting from the unreleased live first days band incarnation John Evan Band which almost exclusively played covers of R&B standards, and great examples are represented here with classics as 'Hold On I'm Comin',' 'Respect' and more, all featuring Ian Anderson on lead vocals. The tapes survived and featured here in their best-possible quality. While we have other sought-after tracks on this LP B Side, from a stunning rare MGM Promo version 'Sunshine Day' which is the debut single from Jethro Tull in 1968. On the single label, the band is credited as Jethro Toe. The B side 'Aeroplane,' is the first released attempt of edging into prog territory. Later, with exclusive 7" vinyl-originated mono mixes, the follow up singles of the now established band on Chrysalis label complete this LP collection. Released on coloured vinyl.

Novalis were formed in 1971 and started singing in German on their second LP 'Novalis' in 1975. Only their debut "Banished Bridge" (1973) was in English. In addition to romantic lyrics, they also used works from the classical period. 'Impressionen' from the album 'Novalis' is an interesting arrangement of Anton Bruckner"s 5th symphony. 'Vielleicht Bist Du Ein Clown' was released in 1978 on the Brain label, produced by Achim Reichel. It was the band"s fifth long-player. The cover was designed by Hipgnosis (Storm Thorgerson, Aubrey Powell), who were also responsible for the covers of Pink Floyd and the Alan Parsons Project. On this album, Novalis have once again succeeded in creating a sound in which all instruments interact in a balanced partnership. Timeless music that still works today. The re-release is limited to 500 copies on colored (random) vinyl.

TRIZO 50 - DEMO - RETURN REQUESTED
In 1973, the legendary Missouri folk-psych band Phantasia changed both its name and musical direction. With an expanded line-up, Trizo 50 careened madly between power pop, glam, psychedelia, proto-metal, pre-punk, hard rock, soft rock and garage. (Hah - yes, there certainly are a lot of different genre categories touched on by Trizo 50 - and all worth hearing!). Recorded in a small rural town of just 900 people, the 100 copies of their demo album quickly sank into obscurity, only re-emerging decades later on the collectors market, now fetching well more than $1,000 per copy. Fifty years later, Trizo 50 band member Bob DePugh has re-mixed and re-mastered the original demo album from the original 4-track tapes for a private press, limited edition run of just 200 copies - as well as an equally limited 3xCD set that includes virtually all of the band's recorded output. Recent reviews of the soon-to-be collectible release reference bands as diverse as T. Rex, Raspberries, Zombies, Big Star, The Beach Boys and Nazz. And we have to say, all of those references make sense. Straddling the 1960 and 1970s, these Trizo 50 releases are a testament both to how small town boys can absorb and reflect music from far beyond their world, and the hard reality behind the promise of rock and roll in America. For those of you with long memories, these editions are TOTALLY DIFFERENT from earlier releases on the World In Sound label. Last copies!

Hunter's finger picked styling and melodic intuitions lay somewhere in a Venne diagram of the early American primitivism of John Fahey, the cowboy psychedelia musings of Lee Hazlewood and the heavy baroque stylings of the Pretty Things, and Hunter was laying it on with the dosage set to "lethal".

GURU GURU - KANGURU
'Känguru' is the third album by Guru Guru, released in 1972 on the Brain label. It was produced by Conny Plank and featured the "classic" Guru Guru line-up of Ax Genrich (guitar), Uli Trepte (bass) and Mani Neumeier (drums, vocals). 'Känguru' is basically made up of the same ingredients as its two predecessors 'Ufo' and 'Hinten,' which were released on Rolf Kaiser"s Ohr label in 1970 and 1971. 'Känguru' is pure krautrock, the album contains "only" 4 tracks, all between 10 and 15 minutes long. But the band moves away from the disorganized chaos of the previous two albums and gives the songs more structure, reducing the amount of heaviness. At the same time, the humorous component increases, see for example Mani Neumeier's spoken word in the introduction of 'Immer Lustig.' In short, 'Känguru' is a krautrock gem.

TRIZO 50 - 50TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION (3CD)
In 1973, the legendary Missouri folk-psych band Phantasia changed both its name and musical direction. With an expanded line-up, Trizo 50 careened madly between power pop, glam, psychedelia, proto-metal, pre-punk, hard rock, soft rock and garage. (Hah - yes, there certainly are a lot of different genre categories touched on by Trizo 50 - and all worth hearing!). Recorded in a small rural town of just 900 people, the 100 copies of their demo album quickly sank into obscurity, only re-emerging decades later on the collectors market, now fetching well more than $1,000 per copy. Fifty years later, Trizo 50 band member Bob DePugh has re-mixed and re-mastered the original demo album from the original 4-track tapes for a private press, limited edition run of just 200 copies - as well as an equally limited 3xCD set that includes virtually all of the band's recorded output. Recent reviews of the soon-to-be collectible release reference bands as diverse as T. Rex, Raspberries, Zombies, Big Star, The Beach Boys and Nazz. And we have to say, all of those references make sense. Straddling the 1960 and 1970s, these Trizo 50 releases are a testament both to how small town boys can absorb and reflect music from far beyond their world, and the hard reality behind the promise of rock and roll in America. For those of you with long memories, these editions are TOTALLY DIFFERENT from earlier releases on the World In Sound label. Last copies!

The original vinyl record released in 1978 was as successful abroad (notably in the USA and Japan) as in France. This record is a reissue of the original production at the time but for this reissue, a bonus track has been added on the B-side which did not exist on the original 1978 version.

'Put Your Clothes Back On' held #3 at a 100KW Midwest commercial station. Done without the aid of a label staff, Bobby Steele handled all marketing, promotion, and distribution single-handedly. In commemoration of the 35th Anniversary of this album, The Undead returned to the studio with guests from some of punk, metal, and rock's most memorable acts to create all new recordings. First-ever official reissue of the pioneering 1986 ambient work. Produced in full cooperation with Hiroshi Yoshimura's estate. Includes new liner notes by original album producer Hiroyoshi Shiokawa and Yoshimura's original notes in Japanese and English. Remastering and lacquer cutting by John Baldwin.
Vinyl pressed at Gotta Groove Records. Originally released as an album in January 1986, 'Surround' was recorded by Yoshimura as a commission from home builder Misawa Homes, intended to function as an "amenity" designed to enhance the company's newly built living spaces. A pioneer in the field of environmental music, Yoshimura's previous works included 'Music For Nine Post Cards' (1982), originally produced to be played back inside a museum space, and designing sound environments for public spaces and subway systems. 'Surround' was recorded almost concurrently with the acclaimed and popular 'Green' (1986); the two albums are described by Hiroyoshi Shiokawa in his liner notes as being Yoshimura's yin and yang. In his original notes for the album, Yoshimura recommends that Surround be placed in the same family of sounds "as the vibration of footsteps, the hum of an air conditioner, or the clanging of a spoon inside a coffee cup." And, as he suggests, "with the addition of city noise from outside the window," you may hear Surround in a completely new way."

'BRAZILIAN WAVE IN YUGOSLAVIA' - The rich musical history of Yugoslavia reveals a long-lasting love for the music of Latin America. Entwined in Afro-Cuban rhythms, ballrooms were shakin', swayin' and swingin', gathering musicians who were heavily into jazz bands and orchestras, most notably in Ljubljana, Zagreb, and Belgrade. Jazz could be heard on the streets of Split way back in 1919 when dancing became a symbol of freedom. Radio was the most loved household item, newest sheet music was in demand and collecting records was hip like today. In the aftermath of Second World War, jazz went underground but little by little, things changed and Ella, Satchmo, Dizzy and Miles came to visit, among others. Music festivals shaped the music for entertainment and variety of popular styles showed influences from all over the world. In the early sixties, one particular rhythm crashed on the coast of the Adriatic Sea: the rhythm of bossa nova! In the whirlwind of various musical styles, Latin American music still played important part of the scene in the early sixties Yugoslavia. Beguine, tango, rhumba, samba, calypso, mambo and cha-cha-cha all found their place on the festivals inspired by famous Sanremo, festival of Italian popular song that largely shaped the musical taste of Europe. It was the era of instrumental rock, R & B and rock'n'roll - sounds of "imperialist America" now played freely on imported and hand-made electric guitars. While dancing halls had been turning into concert venues, bossa nova has come! Eydie Gorme with 'Blame It On The Bossa Nova' and Paul Anka with 'Eso Besso (That Kiss!)' tried to make us learn some new dance moves but it was Joao Gilberto's gentle singing and his new way of playing samba songs, along with Tom Jobim's modern dissonant harmonies and poetry of Vinicius de Moraes that created the magic. When American alto saxophonist and flautist Bud Shank visited Zagreb and Ljubljana in 1963 (with Bosko Petrovic in his quintet) "it was the first time we heard bossa nova!" remembers Stjepan Braco Fuckar. Jugoton, the biggest record company in Yugoslavia, released the 4-track EP 'Bossa Nova' by Bogdan Dimitrijevic and his ensemble that same year! While not being fully accepted or understood completely, the archives of Jugoton reveal to us various interpretations of this new trend from their vast catalogue.

Rocksteady took over Orange Street, Kingston, Jamaica around 1966...the same time that an extreme heat wave hit the Jamaican Island. Some say the previous jerky ska rhythms proved too strenuous of an activity to partake in during the all night sound systems. So it proved a winning formula to slow the beat down to a more leisurely pace. Whatever the reasons were this two year period that ran until 1968 would see some of the power escape from the big three producers - Clement 'Coxonne' Dodd, Prince Buster, and Duke Rei - who up to that period ruled the airwaves. It was time to make room for a new wave of up and coming producers that also had something to offer the people.
So sit back and enjoy some Rocksteady straight from the dances of Jamaica.

Recorded in 1983 in the city of Valladolid, Qloaqa Letal's mythical status made them one of the weirdest bands to come out of the second wave of Spanish punk. They never released anything on vinyl, but they appear on a bunch of foreign compilation tapes under a pseudonym (Ddeadly Sewer) which made the rumors about them grew wilder and wilder. We can only imagine how big they would have been had they released a vinyl record, but giving that they came from a rather un-punk city, only a tape it was. Said tape has ever since been circulated amongst punks all over in the form of dubbed tapes (and a terribly put together CD from 2001). You'll have to look really hard to find a Spanish punk which doesn't know them, yet they were mainly (and may we say criminally) unknown abroad. Their cult status was based around their frontman Rouky, a survivor of London 1977 which brought back the tricks learned in the big Smoke to Valladolid. Qloaqa Letal looked like a bunch of misfits with leather, face paint and clothes ripped to shreds being their aesthetic. Their sound was equally odd with many people claiming they used a drum machine to record their 'Nunca, Siempre' demo cassette. Their guitar sound was the crudest Spain had witnessed by 1983 and while clearly hardcore infuenced their sound was the perfect hybrid between both punk and hardcore. Their lyrics were something else. Nasty depraved anthems full of hate and strangely enough with a massive poetic edge. They even managed to turn an Espronceda poem into a killer punk song on 'Desesperacion.' Songs like 'Valladolid, Qloaqa Letal,' 'La Vida Me Escupe' or 'Ya Te Vale Policia' will forever be in the pantheon of Spanish punk anthems next to any Cicatriz or Eskorbuto songs. Finally re-released by Metadona Records the 'Nunca Siempre' reissue comes housed in a 325gsm reverse board sleeve including a 30x30 lyric insert with pictures of the band. If you had to only buy one reissue record this year (or this decade really) it will be this one.

Never content with the ordinary, Baba Sissoko started his personal outstanding musical journey in Bamako, Mali, several years ago. Carrying on his shoulders the legacy of a legendary dynasty of Malian griots and repeating to himself that "It's getting closer and closer but I'm not there yet" he broke all the boundaries, collaborating and recording with stellar artists such as Youssou N'Dour, Ry Cooder, Buena Vista Social Club, The Art Ensemble Of Chicago and becoming the first Malian who ever deserved the stellar "Obaland Award" for Best African Jazz musician of the Year 2018. His most appreciated satisfaction came few years ago when he found our that his firstborn daughter, Djana Sissoko, a young and super talented 18 years old, decided to follow his path and join him in the mission to deliver his meaningful message of peace and joy to the world. Consolidating the relationship with the Italian producer Luca Sapio they recorded an album together called 'Fasiya' that magnifies this crosscultural exchange where looking at the roots to shape the future is the key point.
If ever a record delivered the promise of new excitement this one is exactly that kind. Baba constantly explores new sounds, and as a result, has electronically transformed his traditional ngoni into one of the wildest fresh sounding lead instruments to hit the music world in years. With his arsenal of handmade instruments, he provided a mystic way followed like a comet tail by Djana's sparkly soulful vocals where Bambara blends naturally with English and Français. For the occasion Max Weissefeldt (Poets Of Rhythm, Dr. John, Guy One) sat at the drums and lighted up some fiery high-life beats, solid ground for tentacular horns that skyrocketed the whole record into the sky. All recorded at the Blind Faith analog studio, the result is an organic music corner stone that fueled by new and vintage obscure gear panoramize a new sound directed at anyone who wants to lost himself in a vibey sonic garden, but most of all at anyone who can feel the beat, that basically means everybody.
