With only one 45 released back at the time, Children Of The Mushroom epitomized the psychedelic-garage sound coming out from California in the late '60s. Formed in Thousand Oaks by Jerry McMillen and Dennis Swanson, they evolved from a mid-'60s teen-beat band called The Captives. In 1967, they became Children Of The Mushroom, a name which reflected their new psychedelic sound and image. The following year, they caught the attention of a couple of young producers, who signed the band for a 45 release. Recorded in 1968 for Soho Records, 'August Mademoiselle'/'You Can't Erase A Mirror,' is one of the masterpieces from the first psychedelic era: feedback, fuzz, organ, mysterious vocals... Soon after, the band incorporated a new guitar player, shortened their name to The Mushroom and started playing in a more heavy-psych vein, in a similar style to Iron Butterfly. This retrospective album includes both tracks from their monster 45 with sound taken from the masters plus previously unreleased tracks by The Mushroom, recorded in 1968. These are raw, lo-fi home recordings (some of the tracks were recorded in a real garage!) with lot of fuzz guitar and organ. It's the sound of a psychedelic band in 1968 playing free and wild, without any producer or record label executive telling them what to do. An incredible document. Remastered sound. Includes booklet with liner notes/interview with the band members and rare photos/memorabilia.

'The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown' is the debut studio album by the English rock band The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown. Released in the United Kingdom in June 1968 by Track Records and in the United States in September 1968 through Atlantic, the album was an international success, propelled by the transatlantic hit single 'Fire.' It was the only album released during the Crazy World's original incarnation. A psychedelic soul album, its style is defined by frontman Arthur Brown's wide-ranging theatrical vocals and mystical lyrics, with the first side of the original LP comprising a conceptual song cycle known as 'The Fire Suite.' The album's sound and Brown's stage act influenced subsequent musicians such as David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper, and even George Clinton. Released on pink vinyl.

Fifth Daughter are new to Fruits de Mer, 'Stellar Season' is their first LP; they describe themselves as progressive/psychedelic rock and their music as an "eclectic mix of prog, psych and acid folk, very much inspired by the likes of Jade Warrior, Jimmie Spheeris, VdGG and Incredible String Band"... They are a duo (what's this with FdM and duos?) - Nicholas Whittaker and James Howarth; Nick is best known as a member of the highly-rated progressive rock band Diagonal, while James was a member of Running Dogs, and has collaborated with the KLF and Martin "Youth" Glover; his last live performance was a headlining slot at Ronnie Scott's, on bass.
'Stellar Season' was conceived as a loose concept album during one of the covid lockdowns, with Whittaker sketching out the basics of a story about a rural society far from Earth whose obsession with summer leads to an endless day that they soon regret, learning to appreciate the rhythm of the seasons in the process. Knowing the talent of his old friend as a songwriter and bassist, Whittaker brought Howarth in to collaborate on the songs. The recordings were completed over several sessions from 2021 to 2023. The album features fellow Diagonal band members Luke Foster and Dave Wileman as well as ambient guitarist Will Howes. The album explores a range of emotions, from tender to euphoric; it's instrumentally adventurous, featuring exotic percussion, sitar and synthesisers alongside acoustic guitars, woodwinds and vocals.

Top-shelf previously unreleased psychedelic pop from 1967-68 by this post-Lomax Alliance Anglo-American trio. A mix of West Coast/Swingin' London sounds with killer vocal harmonies, fuzz guitar, tape/studio effects... Think psych-era Beatles, Byrds, Nazz, Buffalo Springfield, Colours, The Moon... WOW!! The convulsed story of Rain involves Brian Epstein, The Beatles, Merseybeat, Liverpool, New York, Linda Eastman (who photographed the band) and more... Basically, when the Brian Epstein-managed band Lomax Alliance parted ways with their frontman Jackie Lomax (who was about to embark on a George Harrison-assisted solo career), his colleagues in Lomax Alliance - guitarist John Cannon, bassist Tom Caccetta and drummer Bugs Pemberton - left London behind to relocate to New York, where they changed their name to Rain (after his favourite Beatles track) and recorded a full album with producer Chris Huston (The Undertakers, Young Rascals). Despite the outstanding production, top notch songwriting and superb musicianship, the album never left the acetate stage. The trio played at the Fillmore and did more studio work under the Gypsy Wizards Band name that remained also unreleased, before disbanding in 1969. 'Tomorrow Never Comes' includes all the tracks from the Rain acetate, recorded 1967-68, plus two songs from the Gypsy Wizards Band one (1968-69). Vintage styled artwork in hard cardboard sleeve. Originally released only on cassette in 1983, 'Dogs' Ears Are Stupid' by Chicago trio Care Of The Cow is a fascinating blend of psychedelic folk, minimal electronics and post-punk weirdness. Acid fuzz guitar, incredible vocal harmonies, drum machines and analogue synths. One of Chicago's best kept secrets, Care Of The Cow's history goes back to 1974. A trio formed by Victor Sanders, X Baczewska and Sher Doruff, as they were mixing psychedelic folk-rock with art-rock and post-punk. Their influences were very diverse: Beatles, Fripp, Eno, Joni Mitchell, Carla Bley, Pauline Oliveros and Eric Dolphy.

This release takes us back to the early beginnings of the Gear Fab Label in 1986. GF101 was Gear Fab's first release: a 45 picture jacket by founder Roger Maglio's cover band The Borrowed Times, 'Walk Away Rene' b/w 'Tobacco Road.' GF102, another picture jacket 45, contained two tracks from 'Songs From The Rocks': 'A Cold Day In December,' on 9 December, 1980, one day after the assignation of John Lennon, b/w 'Flower Child.' GF103 was a full length LP containing 9 tracks, 8 original compositions and one cover. Roger plays all the instruments on the album, which feature some nice heavy organ, fuzz guitar and string arrangements, as well as a surf tune about the beaches of Long Island back in the 1960s.

TURQUOISE - THE RETURN OF CAPTAIN SPEED
Originally known as Captain Speed, Turquoise was a psychedelic rock band from Southern California who were managed by pioneering Tri-counties concert promoter Jim Salzer, who also operated the legendary Arcade Record Shop. Their sound was 100% psychedelic with swirling baroque organ, trippy guitar fills and driving percussion, all topped off by front man and Jim Morrison's lookalike Tim Pearson's lysergic lyrics. Turquoise shared stage with big names like Grateful Dead, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe & The Fish, The Seeds, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. During 1967-68, they recorded two 45s for Jim Salzer's Arcade label and they also laid down material for a planned LP that was never released... until now. Featuring keyboard player Bill Payne, who later went on be a founding member of Little Feat.
Remastered from the original master tapes by Alec Palao. Including their two rare 45s plus eight previously unreleased tracks, 1967-68 and an insert with liner notes by Gray Newell (Ugly Things/Shindig!) and rare photos/memorabilia. Recommended if you like The Doors, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, Country Joe & The Fish, Love, Iron Butterfly.

CIRCLES (GERMANY) - CIRCLES
Based in Frankfurt, Circles comprised the multi-instrumental
duo of Dierk Leitert (synthesizer, sequencer, drums, bass,
guitar, voice, saxophone, flute) and Mike Bohrmann (guitars,
bass, synthesizer) plus a few collaborators. Carrying the torch
of '70s bands s.a. Cluster, Harmonia and Liliental into the
'80s, the musicians were also contemporaries of groups à la
Throbbing Gristle, Ilitch and Nurse With Wound, so you can
expect some similarities in their music. 'Circles' was the
duo's first album, originally released in 1983 as a private
pressing on their own Einhorn label, housed in a cool and mysterious looking cover. This obscure kraut/psych/experimental
album is highly recommended to anyone into Harmonia, Cluster,
Fripp/Eno, Heldon, Conrad Schnitzler, Neu!, Throbbing Gristle,
Ilitch, Irmin Schmidt and Amon Düül II. This first ever reissue
includes detailed liner notes by Alan Freeman (The Crack In The
Cosmic Egg, Ultima Thule), telling the band's story for
the first time.

psych-LP from 1975, recorded and self-released by four US teens
in Singapore! Featuring a raw sound, the album presents a band
playing with a loose approach, and drawing on a.o. spacerock,
edgy prog and proto-punk. In the end, Crystalauger brings to
mind acts as diverse as Velvet Underground, Pink Fairies and
Pere Ubu. 'Terranaut' was originally issued in a limited run of
200 copies. Through the years several bootlegs appeared, but
now finally there's an official reissue. Background liner notes and rare photos are included.
