With only one 45 released back at the time, Children Of The Mushroom epitomized the psychedelic-garage sound coming out from California in the late '60s. Formed in Thousand Oaks by Jerry McMillen and Dennis Swanson, they evolved from a mid-'60s teen-beat band called The Captives. In 1967, they became Children Of The Mushroom, a name which reflected their new psychedelic sound and image. The following year, they caught the attention of a couple of young producers, who signed the band for a 45 release. Recorded in 1968 for Soho Records, 'August Mademoiselle'/'You Can't Erase A Mirror,' is one of the masterpieces from the first psychedelic era: feedback, fuzz, organ, mysterious vocals... Soon after, the band incorporated a new guitar player, shortened their name to The Mushroom and started playing in a more heavy-psych vein, in a similar style to Iron Butterfly. This retrospective album includes both tracks from their monster 45 with sound taken from the masters plus previously unreleased tracks by The Mushroom, recorded in 1968. These are raw, lo-fi home recordings (some of the tracks were recorded in a real garage!) with lot of fuzz guitar and organ. It's the sound of a psychedelic band in 1968 playing free and wild, without any producer or record label executive telling them what to do. An incredible document. Remastered sound. Includes booklet with liner notes/interview with the band members and rare photos/memorabilia.

Elephant's Memory is the 1969 eponymous album by the American rock band from New York. They are primarily known for backing John Lennon and Yoko Ono. For live performances with Lennon and Ono, they were also known as the Plastic Ono Elephant's Memory Band. Before working together with Lennon and Ono, the band already worked on three albums. Two of their songs, 'Jungle Gym At The Zoo' and 'Old Man Willow' appeared on the soundtrack of the 1969 film 'Midnight Cowboy.' The band's style can be described as psychedelic rock. Elephant's Memory is available as a limited edition of 750 numbered copies on purple coloured vinyl.

Essentially a duo, with the aid of select studio musicians, Jupiter Fungus combine captivating themes with meticulous arrangements and passionate performances, not unlike their heroes. Their holistic approach, including their breathtaking artwork, adds to the legacy of 'Garden Electric,' making for one of the best albums of the genre. A studio band duo from Piraeus, Greece, formed in 2012 by Ares Papatriantafillou (ex-Father Sun) on keyboards and vocals and Fotis Xenikoudakis (ex-Father Sun, The Telestons) on flute. Following the breakup of their band and having spent several years in the local stoner-rock scene, they decided it was time for a change and moved on to their next project, a roots-inspired progressive rock album. Svart Records continues to reissue the discography of legendary Argentinian blues rock band Pappo's Blues with their second album 'Volumen 2.' At the beginning of the '70s, guitarist, singer and composer Norberto Aníbal Napolitano, known to the music world as Pappo, was in the enviable position of being considered among the top guitar players of the fast-growing world of Argentine rock. In fact, a quick look at his resumé, so far, would have revealed that Pappo had been there from the very beginning of the genre: as a member of the first version of Los Abuelos De La Nada, then as guitarist in the second lineup of pioneering -and very successful- Los Gatos, with whom we recorded two albums: 'Beat # 1' and 'Rock De La Miujer Perdida;' and also as a brief but solid contributor to the popular band Conexión N 5, cult blues combo Engranaje, and his participation in albums like the self-titled debut of Billy Bond Y La Pesada Del Rock And Roll and 'Spinettalandia Y Sus Amigos,' the first solo album of ex-Almendra's Luis Alberto Spinetta. Amazingly all this activity took place in just three years. If wouldn't be far off the mark to say that you could signalize the development of Argentine rock by following Pappo's early musical footsteps between 1968 and 1971. 'Volumen 2' is the second studio album Pappo's Blues, released in November 1972. On this album guitarist Norberto "Pappo" Napolitano established a style with influences of hard rock, blues rock and acid rock, adapting the power trio scheme inaugurated by Cream and Jimi Hendrix Experience to an urban sensibility that integrated naturally into rock of the early '70s. Featuring eight songs all composed by Pappo with each track showing the genius of him as a composer, performer and guitarist, filled with memorable riffs and solos, as well as a lyrical sensitivity that reflects his image as a Buenos Aires guitar hero.

'14 PROTOCUMBIAN GARAGE ROCKERS FROM 1960s BOLIVIA' - The Beatles spread the use of the electric guitar across the world and Bolivia was no exception. The "British Invasion" hit a politically convulsed country and fell upon a rich multicultural scene that expanded even further when psychedelic counterculture youth movements coming from San Francisco also conquered the hearts of the country's young people. It was a great mix of influences thrown into a cauldron that saw a link between the LSD-soaked hippie generation and the country's native ancestors. Bolivians were not new to mind-expanding experiences; the acid experiences pioneered in the US by Ken Kesey and Timothy Leary found their local counterpart in ancient indigenous traditions of using plants such as ayahuasca to open the doors of perception. In this compilation you will find some of the most interesting young bands from 1960s Bolivia who brought the sounds of a new generation and combined them with the country's rich musical background. The psychedelic, garage-sounding beat created by these young musicians would soon open up new horizons, and Bolivia would soon see traditional sounds, such as its local version of cumbia, evolve in a similar way to how it would in neighboring Peru.

With only one 45 released back at the time, Children Of The Mushroom epitomized the psychedelic-garage sound coming out from California in the late '60s. Formed in Thousand Oaks by Jerry McMillen and Dennis Swanson, they evolved from a mid-'60s teen-beat band called The Captives. In 1967, they became Children Of The Mushroom, a name which reflected their new psychedelic sound and image. The following year, they caught the attention of a couple of young producers, who signed the band for a 45 release. Recorded in 1968 for Soho Records, 'August Mademoiselle'/'You Can't Erase A Mirror,' is one of the masterpieces from the first psychedelic era: feedback, fuzz, organ, mysterious vocals... Soon after, the band incorporated a new guitar player, shortened their name to The Mushroom and started playing in a more heavy-psych vein, in a similar style to Iron Butterfly. This retrospective album includes both tracks from their monster 45 with sound taken from the masters plus previously unreleased tracks by The Mushroom, recorded in 1968. These are raw, lo-fi home recordings (some of the tracks were recorded in a real garage!) with lot of fuzz guitar and organ. It's the sound of a psychedelic band in 1968 playing free and wild, without any producer or record label executive telling them what to do. An incredible document. The CD version includes two newly discovered bonus tracks: fantastic live renditions of the two songs from their 45 recorded at a band reunion in 2006. Remastered sound. Includes booklet with liner notes/interview with the band members and rare photos/memorabilia.

When a Freckle pops up, that's when you know that the sun has gotten through. Don't let 'em tell you it's skin damage - more like the sign of time well spent, as always, in the light. Freckle features Corey Madden, of Color Green, and Ty Segall. From the riff, there was a shared understanding about what they wanted. It made sense to shoot for writing things that weren't personal-instead, taking ideas and vignettes, turning 'em into back stories and freaking out with the lyrics, making little movies. Once they had a good batch of songs, it wasn't long. They didn't push too hard, they didn't need to. As it came together, everything fell into place real natural-like. Freckle is the hive mind of Corey Madden and Ty Segall. This LP reminds all of us that when the clouds are out you can still get sunburned.

The Guy Hamper Trio was formed by Billy Childish, after a chat with his friend James Taylor (Hammond organ). Billy and James had played respectively in The Milkshakes and The Prisoners, often sharing the same bill in the early '80s, leading to Billy's blues ensemble The Natural Born Lovers being the support act for the early shows of The James Taylor Quartet.
The Guy Hamper Trio is: Billy Childish on guitar, his wife Julie on bass and Wolf on drums - who as it happens was the drummer in the original incarnation of JTQ - and of course features James Taylor on Hammond organ. The Guy Hamper Trio provide a bottom end, blues-influenced instrumental mayhem for those unafraid of dirt, germs and true grime. With no particular wish other than to be recognised as the best at playing badly, they refuse to obey the usual rules of combat and music. Their first 45 ('Polygraph Test'/'Sally Sensation') was released in 2009, followed by a full-length studio album, 'All The Poisons In The Mud,' appearing, as if by magic, in 2022, followed by five 7" singles (via Damaged Goods and Spinout Nuggets), and also two further full-length albums.
This long playing record proves that The Guy Hamper Trio and James Taylor are a perfect team. The fourth in this series of finely crafted compositions, listen out for several tracks also featuring Bash Brand and Tub Johnson as stand in rhythm section (in effect Thee Headcoats). Let's hope theres plenty more from the leaders in jazz/pop mayhem! Limited to 500 copies.

The three "Copenhagen gringos" present a high energy performance on albums as well as live on stage. 'The Man They Couldn't Hang...' is Hola Ghost's second album originally released on vinyl by the band's own label Hola Pete Records in 2009 and reissued by Svart Records in 2019. Now finally back on the market, the album features 11 tracks with stories of revolution, blood thirsty vampires, howling wolves, hate and love for alligator girls and a whole bunch of other stories delivered with machine gun drumming and heavy rock'n'roll bass and guitar. Hola Ghost was formed as a duo by Peter Sandorff (ex-Nekromantix and Mad Sin) with long time friend Jeppe B. Jessen, to work on the soundtrack for LA bound artist Gris Grimlys' debut movie 'Cannibal Flesh Riot.' They bought a haunted drum machine in a pawn shop in Los Angeles that the shop owner had won in a tequila-soaked poker game in Tijuana in Mexico. While working on the soundtrack the rhythms started to seem colored by the machines Mexican origin. The Mexican influence became trademarks for the bands two studio albums and live performances in Europe, in USA and South America. And after replacing the drum machine, the new drummer Kristian Sandorff is skillfully keeping up the tradition live as well as on the band' releases from 2014 onwards.

The Guy Hamper Trio was formed by Billy Childish, after a chat with his friend James Taylor (Hammond organ). Billy and James had played respectively in The Milkshakes and The Prisoners, often sharing the same bill in the early '80s, leading to Billy's blues ensemble The Natural Born Lovers being the support act for the early shows of The James Taylor Quartet.
The Guy Hamper Trio is: Billy Childish on guitar, his wife Julie on bass and Wolf on drums - who as it happens was the drummer in the original incarnation of JTQ - and of course features James Taylor on Hammond organ. The Guy Hamper Trio provide a bottom end, blues-influenced instrumental mayhem for those unafraid of dirt, germs and true grime. With no particular wish other than to be recognised as the best at playing badly, they refuse to obey the usual rules of combat and music. Their first 45 ('Polygraph Test'/'Sally Sensation') was released in 2009, followed by a full-length studio album, 'All The Poisons In The Mud,' appearing, as if by magic, in 2022, followed by five 7" singles (via Damaged Goods and Spinout Nuggets), and also two further full-length albums.
This long playing record proves that The Guy Hamper Trio and James Taylor are a perfect team. The fourth in this series of finely crafted compositions, listen out for several tracks also featuring Bash Brand and Tub Johnson as stand in rhythm section (in effect Thee Headcoats). Let's hope theres plenty more from the leaders in jazz/pop mayhem! Limited to 500 copies.

Between records like 'Relentless' and 'Show 'Em How,' Pentagram have never wanted for self-awareness in terms of album titles. The gauntlet thrown down by 'Lightning In A Bottle' is very much in this tradition. The 10th Pentagram album sees founding frontman and doom figurehead Bobby Liebling leading a new cast of players that includes guitarist/producer Tony Reed (Mos Generator, Big Scenic Nowhere, etc.), drummer Henry Vasquez (Legions Of Doom, Saint Vitus, Blood Of The Sun, etc.) and bassist Scooter Haslip (Mos Generator, Saltine). It would be hard to overstate the energy the new band brings to songs like 'Live Again,' 'Solve The Puzzle' or 'In The Panic Room,' but 'Lightning In A Bottle' is unmistakably a Pentagram record, of course in Liebling's unremittingly charismatic performance and the groove conjured to back it. Recorded with Reed at the helm, 'Lightning In A Bottle' recalls the best of what has allowed Pentagram to cast an influence across decades and generations of musicians, bands, and worshippers of Riff, and as just their third studio release in the last 15 years, it's not a moment to neglect as they dig into a cut like 'Dull Pain' or 'Lady Heroin,' the latter of which is a naked reconciliation on the part of Liebling with a lifelong addiction to opiates that's become an inextricable part of the Pentagram story. As he wonders in the lyrics, "Lady Heroin, have I seen the last of you?" it becomes difficult to know whether the separation would be through sobriety or death, and that ambiguity becomes part of what makes the song so striking. It's not all brooding, even if it is doom. 'Thundercrest' is brash and the nodding title-track brings to mind past glories without actually reliving them. The central message, any way you want to look at it, is that no matter how much the band has been through over the last half-century-plus, they remain a singular force. 'Lightning In A Bottle' might not be the first Pentagram reboot, but it brings fresh ideas and dynamic to one of doom's most classic, formative acts, and as soon as you hit play, the band absolutely own the moment of their own making. Known for his genre-defying and boundary-pushing approach to music, Heffernan - who has spent years experimenting with various styles, instruments and production techniques has crafted a collection of tracks that defy categorization. This album is a sonic tapestry of atmospheric library music, dusty hip-hop beats, and the organic, unfiltered essence of field recordings, all neatly packaged up into a format that allows each element space to breathe. At the turn of the 21st Century, sandwiched between two of their most iconic albums - 'Secret Name' and 'Things We Lost In The Fire' - Low released 'The Exit Papers' as part of Temporary Residence Ltd.'s long-running CD subscription series, 'Travels In Constants.' A sparse suite of six mostly instrumental pieces composed for a film that never existed, 'The Exit Papers' still stands as Low's most haunting and experimental work. Originally released exclusively on CD in a scarce edition of only 1,000 copies, pressed on vinyl for the first time in 2016. A rare Low album finally back in print and now pressed on colored vinyl.

The 5th album by the brothers Ramirez behind Pumuky, titled 'No Sueltes Lo Efímero' (Don't Let Go of the Ephemeral). It has been 10 years since they released a full-length album, though they were never idle during this time. Pumuky also have an extensive live history, having played in Europe and Latin America, with appearances at major festivals such as Primavera Sound, WOMAD, and the Mexican NRMAL. 'No Sueltes Lo Efímero is released through Keroxen, a collective that, in addition to being a platform and label for the best of the Canary Islands' underground scene, organises a small, unique music festival inside a giant abandoned kerosene tank in Santa Cruz de Tenerife - an event that has already garnered praise worldwide.
In 'No Sueltes Lo Efímero,' Pumuky return to their signature sound, although they have never completely abandoned it: an abrasive slowcore with controlled crescendos and raw, unfiltered lyrics, sometimes bordering on the intensity of dirty shoegaze, at other times leaning into dream-pop passages, but always with the unique stamp that has characterised them from the start. A rare breed, difficult to categorise, Pumuky write songs as if performing escape tricks.

'Wyspa Wsród Jezior: Nagrania Instrumentalne Z Lat 1962-1970' is a comprehensive three-CD compilation by the pioneering Polish instrumental big beat band Czerwono-Czarni, released by Kameleon Records in 2023. This collection features nearly all of the band's instrumental recordings from 1962 to 1970, excluding those previously issued on GAD Records' 'Motor I Ja.' The first two discs present studio tracks in chronological order, while the third disc offers live performances from events like the Opole Festivals and the 'Zgaduj Zgadula' program. Notably, the compilation includes previously unreleased sessions from East Germany in July 1965 and the psychedelic track 'Dzwony,' reminiscent of Pink Floyd's 'Interstellar Overdrive.' The set comprises 79 tracks, totaling over 179 minutes of music, and comes with a 24-page booklet featuring information about the recordings and numerous photographs of the band.

Setting the tone for this double-headed behemoth with creeping, cinematic dark ambience, Iggor Cavalera's's side-long 'Neon Gods' unfolds into a brutal sonic nightmare. Equal measures of dread and anguish come together with the occasional reprieve of slow, pulsating drones and almost meditative waves of static. The crescendo of harsh industrial noise with heavy death industrial vocalisation is nothing short of pummelling. "Neon Gods is a bit of a sonic trip, with different layers of atmospheric vibrations, from darkness to light. It's an absolute pleasure to do this split release with Shane, I believe we share a lot of similar ideas when it comes to opening our mind to different styles of sounds" (IC). Shane Embury's 'Own Your Darkness' merges menacing, pitch-black dark ambient and hypnotic bass swells with celestial synth lines that subtly lurk around the peripheries. Rising and falling, ebbing and flowing - until finally the all-encompassing apocalyptic bleakness, the enveloping darkness, closes in around you. "Iggor and I have been good friends for decades and this is a record very different for us both but amazing! A very interesting track to make, it was my first experiment with the Solar 42. An excellent synth for those eternal drones of despair and was assisted my long time colleague Russ Russell. As I journey ever onward in through my individuation it's imperative that I own my own darkness... hence the title. We all need to strive for balance and to kindle a light in the darkness of being" (SE).

I have always enjoyed Marco Corbelli's work and while all of it is not to my liking there is always something unmistakably special about it. I really got sucked in by his Mörder Machine project, but the last few years I have been listening a lot more to Atrax Morgue. Sometimes when I was a bit out of ideas in the studio I would try out some simple drones or synth patches and they kept reminding me of Marco's work. His music is often quite stripped
down, simple and improvised and that was what I was getting too. This led to trying to recreate some of my favorite tracks of his. I was not close to Marco Corbelli, but we were in contact occasionally, trading albums. He liked my music and I liked his. I hope he would have liked my interpretations of his work! Masonna is one of the early pioneers of Japanoise and a true living legend. This CD is the combined re-release of two classic first-era Masonna albums: 'Masonna Vs. Bananamara,' his very first vinyl release (Vanilla Records/Japan 1989) and 'Shinsen Na Clitoris,' his very first CD release (Vanilla Records/Japan, 1990). Masonna's sound is true harsh Japanoise but always inspired by psychedelic music and mainly perfomred using distorted vocals, in a unique and distinctive way to perform Japanoise. Kevin Tomkins is best known for his work in Whitehouse and his own group Sutcliffe Jugend, now called Sutcliffe No More. Most of his music has its background in the power electronics scene that evolved in Great Britain around the label Come Organisation and the group Whitehouse. Power electronics is a style of noise music that typically consists of static, screeching waves of feedback, analogue synthesizers making sub-bass pulses or high frequency squealing sounds, with screamed and distorted vocals.

The score was composed by Tan Dun and performed by Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai National Orchestra, and Shanghai Percussion Ensemble. It also features many solo passages for cello played by Yo-Yo Ma and a guest appearance by Coco Lee. The orchestra's string section was accompanied by traditional Chinese instruments such as the bamboo flute, a hand drum, and an ethnic Miao group. Available as a limited edition of 1000 numbered copies on silver coloured vinyl including a 4-page booklet.

Some record crates deserve a sub-category called "play it again, Sam." Casablanca-level comfort tracks that spin on the turntables without a push. 'Funk Kraut,' Zombie Zombie's second LP on Born Bad, is of this kind. This well-proportioned classic is a fine example of the style the trio has been embodying: instrumental music played live, for synths and drums. The album kicks off with 'No Cruise Control,' a big bad sedan that effortlessly eats up the distance at 120 BPM. Kraut as can be, with a twist. And as far as funk goes, it's not Bootsy Collins, but there's a whiff. Space is structured by synth patterns, for optimized drumming : forward, straight and fluid, top-notch suspension (Cosmic Neman/Dr Schönberg take care of business on drums). They treat themselves to a diversion via Darmstadt to take some musique concrete on board : mechanical birds chirp, the odd atonal piano here and there. Nerds will appreciate liner notes detailing the equipment used: about twenty synths and they still describe it as minimal. This was a quick affair, recorded by Laurent Deboisgisson in the studio of Cheveu's singer. A pretty straightforward job, and a far cry from their previous concept album. With this psychedelic combat cry one of the most eccentric and innovative projects from Austria/Vienna was returning. On their ninth studio album Der Blutharsch continues travelling in the direction they took back in 2005, when the former guru of martial industrial/military pop, Albin Julius, and his band, rocketed towards the deep space of psychedelia. One of the most controversial bands of the last decade staked its claim anew, totally breaking with old images, clichés and tunes. Starting already on the album 'The Philosopher's Stone' the turning to the walls of guitars and repetitive chants was already to recognize. 'Flying High!' turns this to a programmatic climax. If you start thinking on Sunn O))), Guru Guru, Amon Düül, Tangerine Dream or Godspeed You! Black Emperor you are not to far away, but still inherent is the big part of apocalyptic feeling which you are already used to. Highly influenced by the American West Coast sound of the late sixties with a small dosis of that what some people use to call krautrock. The tracks are slightly developing into eachother, ambient parts followed by ecstatic deathrock songs and then they glide into a wall of sound. The guestparts on the vocal side is full of well known artists: Besides Bain Wolfkind and Albin Julius or Gianni Serusi, you discover 1980s legend Patrick Leagas who himself celebrates the title song in his typical distinctive manner. 'Flying High!' is a dark record, it mixes eros and deathwish, productivity with destructivity. Since the release of 'When Did Wonderland End?,' Der Blutharsch have mutated into a psychedelic rock monster; their motto, "into new territories!", symbolic for this mutation, a battle fought not by marching but by flying, 'Flying High!.' 'Flying High!' is a weird trip for blown minds through the dark worlds of today's society, passing love, hate and lust during its journey into the center of the sun!
