Last copy! This totally unknown LP from 1975 was recorded in the UK by two close friends. Both of them recorded one side of the album, which originally only existed on two acetate records. Side 1 contains epic neo classical prog rock in the style of Renaissance and Continuum, inspired by the wild and pagan isles of St Kilda. Side 2 contains intense Cohen-like songs which were the result of the heartaches and homesickness of a Canadian student who went to university in the UK. Now this priceless rarity is finally issued in a run of 500 vinyl copies, featuring stunning gatefold artwork.

Maurizio 'Angus' Bidoli's brilliant 'Diary Of Dreams' was issued in 1998 as a very limited CD only releasegiven to friends and colleagues. It has never been reissued, and therefore this is its first ever appearance on vinyl and official CD. Angus is a native of Rome, and has played guitar with many bands, most notably the Italian metal outfit Fingernails. However, his love for the trippier, Hendrix-inspired psychjamming has manifested itself in several solo projects, and this is a great example of that. Angus plays all the instruments on this outing, and it's his wonderful guitar playing that comes to the fore. Blue Matter are genuinely thrilled to be able to make this great album available for the first time in 25 years.

BEVIS FROND - THE LONG STUFF (2LP)
'The Long Stuff' was originally released in 2002 as a limited edition CD. There were just 110 copies pressed and sold to the members of the then online 'Bevis Frond Community.' Since then it has never been reissued in any format. The album was a collection of unreleased tracks from Nick Saloman's archive, but what tied this lot together was that all of the tracks (bar one) were rather lengthy. When assembling this album for a double vinyl release, it required some extra music to fill four sides of vinyl. So what you have here are two sides taken from the original CD and a further two sides of previously unheard epics. These tracks were recorded between 1995 and 2020, and feature songs performed by Nick Saloman alone, and others with a full band. Some are home demos, while some are studio recordings. There's also one mammoth live recording. Other musicians featured are Adrian Shaw, Andy Ward, Paul Simmons and Dave Pearce. So to all those who don't go for long, self-indulgent workouts, you're not going to like this album. But for those who do... WOW! Limited to 1000 copies.

Formed in 1966, The Electric Prunes had a novel approach to being a band: deciding to be a recording unit rather than a live performance band. They discovered their signature sound-reverb-drenched, beautifully chaotic garage pop and released one of the most fantastic, fuzzed-out singles of all time, 'I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night.' Guitar effects drip and splatter throughout (the band had landed an endorsement deal with Vox, who were the leaders in wild effects pedals at that time), and they laid into the material with brute force (and the occasional gentle touch). So there is a new tenant in the Jean-Claude Vannier residence.
The discreet type, but rather noisy. Fuzz guitars, wild
farfisa, bass lines mixed well ahead in the Burgalat tradition,
flutes playing, horse cavalcades on Miguel El Salam, 'Rhapsode' is such a huge indoor Western shot by the ORTF ( 64's to 74's
French Broadcasting Authority TV) that sometimes we expect to
see Jean-Christophe Averty spring out from an enclosure,
holding both a camera and a joint. But again, clothes dont make
the man. The name Forever Pavot was not born of an apology of
drugs: "It started as a joke. One day I read too fast a "flower power" poorly written on a school pencil case. It made me
laugh", said Emile. The result is worth all these sleepless
nights: where others merely copy the past, Emile stacks up
sound, rehabilitates the harpsichord in this narrow world that
has become pop music. He composes arranged pieces (Electric
Mami) that give the impression of hearing 'Strawberry Fields
Forever' sung by Zombies. After an initial 45 rpm, 'Christophe
Columb', which he produced in the spring of 2013, and which
was "distributed free with chocolates" and then repressed by
Frantic City, the story of Forever Pavot begins to take shape around a new group.

First album by the cult band since 2010. The Fugs was formed in 1964 by Ed Sanders with Tuli Kupferberg and Kenn Weaver. Until they disbanded the group captured the time spirit and they were alongside Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention the representatives of a quite new mix of political protest,
Dadaistic free form performances, poetry - but first rock & roll. The Fugs produced 6 great albums including the masterpieces 'Tenderness Junction' (1968) and 'It Crawled Into My Hand, Honest' (1969), before they disbanded in 1969. Ed Sanders pursued a very successful career as a writer and poet.
His book about the Manson Family was a huge bestseller. In 1984 Sanders brought The Fugs together again and has recorded several albums since then, including the brilliant 'No More Slavery' from 1986. Two tunes on the LP version were recorded by Scott Petito at Tuli Kupferberg's loft in NYC in 2005. The Fugs have added instruments and harmony singing to Tuli's originals. Limited to 500 copies.

Toronto 1970, three young guys, heavily influenced by Blue Cheer and Hendrix, get together to form a band. Featuring Charles Gadsby on guitar and vocals, Rick Skol on drums and vocals and Drew Tjernstrom on bass, the nascent outfit call themselves Gadsby & Skol. After much rehearsing they start to play local shows, but soon decide they need to do some more work on their sounds. In the end, the project stalls and they go their separate ways. Then in 1995 Charles Gadsby finds an old rehearsal tape and contacts the other two guys to suggest that they get back together to record the album they could have made back in 1970, if they'd ever got a recording deal. A little while later the recordings you have here are completed, and an album's worth of material is ready and waiting. The album eventually makes its one and only brief appearance on CD in 2001. Now here it is on vinyl for the very first time heavy and raw, just how it was meant to be. So if you like Thunder & Roses, Blue Cheer, Third Power and hard rocking psych guitar bands, you're going to love this! That's as close to a promise as we can make.

Reissue of Gandalf's 1969 self-titled release. Recorded at Century Sound in Manhattan with Grammy-winning producer Brooks Arthur (who engineered Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline' and Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl'), the production of the album was created on the spot in the studio with arrangements being thrown about and the incredibly haunted vocals being recorded directly from the band's PA using a Binson Echorec to make this innovative sound (Pink Floyd later used the same echo unit to great effect). Add to that sitars, vibes, B3 organs, harpsichord, minor tragic guitar chords, and bass drones aplenty, and you've got the recipe for an album that bears listening to with eyes closed, music cranked, mind open.
So get in on the beauty of this record, and as Sando says on the liner notes: "Put the needle in the groove, sit back, and take the trip with GANDALF." Comes on clear vinyl.

La Femme was born during the X years in Biarritz, when Sasha and Marlon started composing on their guitars music they recorded on Garage Band. Together they ride surfboards, pianos
and synthetiseur as they gave a try to various styles, from '60s yéyé French pop to Californian surf music. Marlon moved to Paris, and there he met Sam, who played bass. Together they formed SOS Mademoiselle along with Olivier Peynot, and played vintage French rock, as Sasha was practising his scales in reverb feed surf band Les Redoutables! After getting his grade, Sasha joined his friends in Paris, where they discovered French cold wave and synth pop, Marie & Les Garcons being one of their favourite. They polished a style that could be described as one of these following : Surf wave, Bizarre wave, strange wave, weird witch wave, silly mental wave or Psycho tropical Berlin. In fact anything you want as long as it ends with wave. And the boys created LA FEMME. Rock and pop, rococo bauhaus, fed from multiples influences (Krafwerk, Elli & Jacno) La Femme just want to please you. Generous and welcoming, she stretches you her white hand in the dark, if you grasp it, it could be the shiver of you life.

LAIR - NGELAR
LAIR (pronounced "lah-eer," a local dialect for the Indonesian word of 'lahir', meaning `birth' or, roughly 'being born') is a 6-piece psych-soul/funk outfit hailing from Jatiwangi, West Java, Indonesia. In 'Ngélar,' the sextet's sophomore LP, deeper social narratives and more intimate subject matters are more apparent. In which they speak a lot about 'tanah' or 'land/soil,' owing a lot to the fact that their hometown, Jatiwangi's history of being the country's largest producer of clay/terracotta-based products. The people in Jatiwangi's intertwining relationship with 'tanah' is simply unparalleled... even their instruments are mostly made of terracotta. From the reimagining of their hometown's past glories, LAIR, along with singer/songwriter Monica Hapsari (who co-wrote and co-composed three songs in the album) and Go Kurosawa (Kikagaku Moyo) helming the project as the producer, sings about the rituals and traditions of harvest, to sending off prayers towards their once-prospering land and the ruins of what was once a dense forest in Jatiwangi, which they are currently trying to reclaim while racing with the massive wave of industrialisation. It is a contextually-sorrowful album as much as it is a candid, cheery commemoration of the band members' everyday life in today's northern shores of Java, Indonesia. Ngélar is one of the words that might be able to describe the essence of LAIR as a group. The word itself can be traced back to the locals' culture of 'going around in celebration of something.' In their village, ngélar simply means a traveling performance, in which the performers would play music and go around the village, greeting the people around them as they move from place to place, or simply within their immediate surroundings, indicating that there is something nearby that is being celebrated. LAIR is simply in love with 'journey,' 'time,' and all of their interactions. Ngélar, for them, is a representation of their journey. How they go around, interacting and communicating, to celebrating and making sense of everything that is going on within and around them. For LAIR, 'Ngélar' is a method, a creative process, and, as an album, a culmination of each of their journeys since the group's founding.

MORIWAKI, HITOMI - SUBTROPIC COSMOS
'Subtropic Cosmos' is the international debut album by Japanese artist Hitomi Moriwaki. Composed and recorded at her Fukuoka home during the worldwide pandemic between 2020-2022, the album was produced by Hideki Urawa, who has also worked with Kikagaku Moyo and other musical acts on Guruguru Brain. Hitomi Moriwaki is a multidisciplinary artist working with a wide range of mediums besides music, including: magazines, ceramics, digital art, and animation. 'Subtropic Cosmos' in particular is a wonderful work that conveys the "joy of making things" to listeners, as it is filled with various influences from her diverse activities. As suggested by the album title, most of the songs were created under the unprecedented conditions of corona - and as a result, were inspired by the consciousness of traveling through imaginary foreign lands and nature. As if adventuring through the universe inside of her own mind, Moriwaki's versatility is best experienced through her fearless fusion of hip-hop, pop and experimental music. Through a lens of psychedelic production by Hideki Urawa, this album is a truly special, one-of-a-kind space experience for listeners to enjoy and embark upon.

Previously completely unknown second, unreleased LP by pastoral English songsmith. Recorded in 1973 at the University of Surrey Music Department where Robert was a Guitar Degree Student. A kaleidoscope of beautifully sung, intense, impressionistic, self-composed songs. Some simply backed by his stunning guitar work, others with full chamber folk-rock backing. Heavily symbolic lyrics and deceptively sweet music, much of the imagery seems to anticipate his tragic early death, in his sleep, aged 19, just weeks before he graduated. Obvious comparisons can be made to Nick Drake and even Tim Buckley, but perhaps more sharply to early Al Stewart and with a strong resonance of Village Thing artists, especially Dave Evans' two classic LPs. Timeless, sharp, wistful and eccentric. A miracle this has survived. Fully laminated sleeve, NO BARCODE, features inner with full lyrics and insert with memories from his brother, designed by the immortal Bobby Blisters. Mastered by Reynolds Mastering, the kings of reconstruction and pressed on the old EMI presses by Vinyl Factory for maximum quality. As always pressing run limited to 227.

Released in 1970 on the British cult label The Village Thing (owned by singer/songwriter Ian A. Anderson), the sole album by couple Anne and Graham Hemingway is a superb acid folk manifesto. Coming all the way from Cardiff, the duo has been described as a mystical, magical hippie small family. Alongside classic guitars, they played dulcimer, glockenspiel, vibes, bells, kazoo and small percussion, joined throughout by label-mate John Turner (bowed and finger-picked string bass) and Andy Leggett.

'UNE EPOPEE DE L'AUTOPRODUCTION EN FRANCE - 1973/1991' -
The French equivalent of the English "Derby Service", the Kiosque d'Orphée, was taken over by Georges Batard in 1967 and it remained in service until 1991. Georges Batard was a sound engineer who used a Neumann tube engraver to engrave acetates from the tapes he received, before printing the precious vinyls, where he was able to produce very small runs of between 50 and 500 copies. What most of these records have in common is the anonymity of the artists. Most of them were amateur productions, both in terms of the level of the musicians and the quality of the recordings, made on a two-track tape desk or, the ultimate luxury, a 4-track tape recorder. This 3LP features a collection of songs from the period 1973-1991.

VARIOUS - NIPPON ACID FOLK 1970-1980
The birth of Japan's nascent acid folk scene was rooted in the messy and invigorating political climate of the late 1960s. It is a story of Dadaists, communists, pharmacists, and cult leaders, led by a young generation of upstart students, artists, and dreamers hellbent on turning their world upside down. At the forefront of this movement was Yellow Magic Orchestra's Haroumi Hosono, a polymath innovator whose band Happy End released the first Japanese language rock album, and whose influence would go on to be felt across Japanese music for decades. Alongside, and informed by the Kansai scene's Takashi Nishioka and Happy End collaborator Ken Narita, they experimented with cadences and accents of the Japanese language to open the door for others to experiment with their own forms of psychedelic folk too. Charting the decade from 1970 to 1980, 'Nippon Acid Folk' surveys a little explored corner of Japanese music history, but one which ultimately laid the foundations for an independent music industry, launching the careers of Hosono and others in the process. 'Nippon Acid Folk 1970-1980' is pressed on vinyl and represents the start of a deep dive into Japan's rich history of folk and psychedelic soul music.

This totally unknown album from 1975 was recorded in the UK by two close friends. Both of them recorded one side of the album, which originally only existed on two acetate records. It contains epic neo classical prog rock in the style of Renaissance and Continuum, inspired by the wild and pagan isles of St Kilda. The second part of the album has intense Cohen-like songs which were the result of the heartaches and homesickness of a Canadian student who went to university in the UK.

'Algy Lord Grey' is a deranged subversive and witty concept album about a man's descent into ruin.

First album by the cult band since 2010. The Fugs was formed in 1964 by Ed Sanders with Tuli Kupferberg and Kenn Weaver. Until they disbanded the group captured the time spirit and they were alongside Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention the representatives of a quite new mix of political protest,
Dadaistic free form performances, poetry - but first rock & roll. The Fugs produced 6 great albums including the masterpieces 'Tenderness Junction' (1968) and 'It Crawled Into My Hand, Honest' (1969), before they disbanded in 1969. Ed Sanders pursued a very successful career as a writer and poet.
His book about the Manson Family was a huge bestseller. In 1984 Sanders brought The Fugs together again and has recorded several albums since then, including the brilliant 'No More Slavery' from 1986. Four tunes on the CD version were recorded by Scott Petito at Tuli Kupferberg's loft in NYC in 2005. The Fugs have added instruments and harmony singing to Tuli's originals. Limited to 500 copies.

This represents the more art rock end of the Great Crash spectrum, with long intelligent prog based tracks that tackle quirky subject matter like prime era 10cc. Totally recommended. Notes and artwork supervised by the band. Part of the Great Crash's songwriting heart, Piers Geddes, died in 2023, shortly after contributing to the Great Crash's fascinating It's Psychedelic Baby interview. There should have been a documentary about this unique band, but it wasn't in the stars.

Repress on black vinyl. Released in 1985, Green River's 'Come On Down' was a record existing in its sonic universe, out of step with its own time. Was it glam? Was it punk? Was it metal? Was it cool? We now know it was one of the building blocks of what Mark Arm would coin as "grunge" but in 1985 this record was a silent groundbreaker. It was not only the raw, sludgy, slower guitar sound that makes this band important in its place in rock history, but the members of Green River would go on to lead some of the biggest names in the genre: Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone, the latter of which also contained the roots of Pearl Jam. Each generation has it's own music, and it's often convenient to divide generations into decades. The 1960s gave us PSYCH; the 1970s presented PUNK; the 1980s gave rise to GRUNGE and the 1990s gave us RIOT GRRRL! More than a mere musical style, Riot Grrrl is a revolutionary movement of hard rock chicks. Like comrades in arms Hole, L7, Babes In Toyland and Bikini Kill, the Lunachicks are out to turn a few heads, change a few minds, rock harder than the Ramones and make the world a better place.
In the late '80s and early 1990s, the Lunachicks headlined classy joints, like CBGB and toured nationally and abroad with the likes of the Ramones, the Butthole Surfers, Gwar, the Dickies and the Dictators. They secured a record deal in the UK and landed on the covers of NME, Melody Maker and Sounds several times each, while at the same time dominating the American underground press and college radio. Repress of 1000 copies! This 19 track double LP is a recut of the 2014 release of a live concert recorded at Paddington Town Hall (Sydney Australia) in December 1977. Recorded just prior to the band's departure for the UK to promote the Sire release of their 'Radios Appear' album, this recording was mixed from 16 track master tapes that had languished forgotten for decades. It is a totally wild and raw record that captures the band's true primal energy perhaps in a way that other recordings haven't. The songs represent a wide selection of their originals along with covers of Blue Oyster Cult, MC5 and Bo Diddley.

'Living Eyes' was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales during a break in the band's 1978 tour of Britain and Europe. Relations between members were falling apart and Sire had dropped the band prior to the start of recording. Their breakup soon followed. Initial releases of the album were cut from a tape dub of trial mixes as the band never received an official master. In 1994 the original tapes were retrieved from Rockfield and remixed in Australia for a CD only release. This is the first time the remix version has been released on vinyl. It has been remastered and cut to lacquer. Same front cover as the original though the back has been altered. The inner sleeve contains liner notes explaining the genesis of the remix.

2021 repress! Simply obliterating any conception of the Wipers as a mere punk band, Greg Sage released this follow-up to 'Is This Real?' in 1981 - a sophisticated, overwhelming response to the evil times marked by the turn of the decade. Broken up into six long songs, 'Youth Of America' is a much colder, harrowing experience than the teen angst of their debut. Vocally, Sage comes off as sleep-deprived and forsaken, snarling not only at
his own predicament but at the predicament of the entire world.
The centerpiece of the album is the title track, a dire ten minutes of paranoia and angst that gave Sage the space to showcase his wildest, darkest playing yet. As bassist Brad
Davidson and drummer Brad Naish hold the same hypnotic rhythm for the entire song, the guitar careens and swoops with such a frantic energy it seems as though it's the only thing keeping Sage alive in the maelstrom of sound. It's a fitting commentary that the exacting, post-punk legends Mission Of Burma and squalling, noisy thugs The Melvins both saw fit to cover the track. Completely remastered from the original tapes, pressed on audiophile vinyl, and housed in a heavy tip-on sleeve.

BRAGA, RITA - ILLEGAL PLANET
Rita Braga is a Porto-based, Portuguese singer and multi-instrumentalist. Rita is a prolific artist who has released a string of cult records, most recently 2020's 'Time Warp Blues.' She has performed hundreds of shows in the last fifteen years all across Europe, Brazil, Japan, US and Australia and is a lynch-pin of the ever-burgeoning music and arts scene in Portugal. For 'Illegal Planet' Rita continues to traverse realms of sci-fi pop and synth-folk dream-worlds whilst also grappling with dystopic mundanities of modern life such as smartphone apps for Rádio Pardal and YouTube, with the closing track 'Unclassified' thanking the listeners who stayed until the end and asking them not to forget to hit the subscribe button. Elsewhere 'Ikea Snow' ruminates on existential dread in the shape of global climate collapse. These very modern tales of transcendence and woe are filtered through a kosmische haze of synths, old-time drum machines and all manner of musical instruments from around the world. Rita's vocal is inspired by her love of early jazz and Hollywood actresses of yester-year and this brings a nostalgic tinge to the gorgeous suite of mini-narratives. Jazz-inflected noir-pop for the end times, indeed. As well as recording, releasing and touring her solo music she has collaborated with a host of cult musical figures including a current project with German composer and sound artist Felix Kubin. In 2022 she worked with Ana da Silva of post-punk group The Raincoats and also collaborated and toured with American post-hardcore hero Ian Svenonius of Nation Of Ulysses. Rita completed her bachelor degree in Music Sciences in Lisbon and in 2018-2019 she took the MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths, University of London. The songs for 'Illegal Planet' were composed by Rita and produced by her and Rodrigo Cardoso at Sonoscopia studios in Porto. The album features a range of guests with enviable
CVs such as Nik Phelps (Tom Waits/Frank Zappa), Phil MFU (Vanishing Twin) and leading figures of Porto's experimental music scene such as Gustavo Costa and Luís Bittencourt. 'Illegal Planet' was mastered by Tó Pinheiro da Silva.

Massicot's 'Kratt' album occupies a strange and wonderful Reuleaux triangle situated between the traditional spiritual story telling mysticism of North European pagan folklore, Latin and middle eastern inspired polyrythms and post punk. Its meandering arrangements are full and juicy, yet formed from the simplest elements, they are minimal, sculpted and refined.
Bouncing and multitimbral percussive tapestries are coupled with thick pulsating baselines to form tightly wound rolling beats, accented by citric guitar hooks that bring to mind the percussive pique and jag of Glenn Branca or Talking Heads and soothed by Latvian chant-like and choral vocal melodies,
Massicot choreograph a sort of carnival caousel dance eternal that locks in the mind and lures the body. The groove is key, mechanical, yet nuanced, seductive and human.

While their previous work captured the disarray of the world during the pandemic, 'Ventre Unique' reflects on shared human experiences, inviting listeners to find common ground through music.

When Thierry Müller, the initiator of the Ruth project, releases the album 'Polaroid/Roman/Photo' in 1985, he was not an unknown artist back then. In 1977 Thierry launched his first experimental group, Arcane, soon followed by the Ilitch project and the more punk orientated band Ruth Ellyeri, in collaboration with actress Murielle Huster. Early 1982, a first version of the track 'Polaroïd/Roman/Photo' was released under the name of the project Ruth. The full-length album was released in 1985 through a small independant label and sold poorly. The title track was re-discovered by DJs Marc Moulin and Ivan Smagghe in the early 2000s, provoking renewed interest from the electronic music scene. Alongside his activity as graphic designer, Thierry Müller carries on producing music under his own name to date. The LP includes a 12-page booklet with liner notes in French and English.

Mega rare private press AOR rock lost classic. Only whispered about by collectors, Sidewalk's sole LP from 1976 was privately issued in a 100 copy run that sellers have asked upward of $10,000 for. Working directly with members of the band, Jackpot Records has lovingly restored the original master tapes to bring this record to private press fans for the first time. Sidewalk's sound existed somewhere between Steely Dan's relentless jazz-prog shredding, the outdoor festival chug of Chicago and the technical prowess of Yes if they backed up a lost '70s AOR songwriter. At the height of FM Radio rock, Sidewalk combined high-level chops with innovative chord progressions and advanced studio production to create a serious contender in the Cal-Jam festival era. But they tragically disbanded after pressing up this sole LP as the only document of their existence. This LP is pressed on high-quality vinyl and includes original artwork with liner notes written by Doane Perry of Jethro Tull.

'EXPERIMENTAL & ELECTRONIC MUSIC FROM SWITZERLAND 1981-1983' - Décalé Records and Bongo Joe Records present a compilation placing the spotlight on the Swiss experimental and electronic scene of the '80s and the early '90s. The compilation 'Intenta' assembles under-appreciated gems, sought-after titles
and newly mixed versions. It places leftfield synth-pop next to otherworldly jazz, and joins the dots between lyrical post-punk excursions and proto-house experimentation. The compilation covers a period of transition: When songs mutated into sounds.
When synthesizers and samplers became the règle du jeu in DIY music-making. When a politicized youth movement slowly gave way to the hedonistic embrace of techno culture in Switzerland. 'Intenta' mines the outer fringes of a scene yet to be. Many of these experimenters were pretty much on their own. Often the only way you would get in touch was at the local synth dealer.
A spirit of bold improvisation inhabited studios between Geneva and St. Gallen: these artists were articulating pop sensibilities (Air Project, Sky Bird, D-Sire, Peter Philippe
Weiss), entering computer worlds (Claudine Chirac, Olivier Rogg, Carlos Perón), exploring exotic shores (Andreas Hofer, Bells Of Kyoto, Fizzè), building future discothèques (Aborted At Line 6, Carol Rich, UnknownmiX) or finding glacial bliss
(Dressed Up Animals, Elephant Château, I Suonatori). The compilation was put together by Matthias Orsett and Maxi Fischer. 'Intenta' unfolds as a sonic story that is laid-back yet energetic, sultry yet daring. The two crate diggers set out to meet with many of the artists arrayed here. Memories were
shared, wine bottles opened. There were moments of sadness: Karl Lienert Löwenherz (Dressed Up Animals) and Claudius Scholer (Sky Bird) passed away during the making of this project. What remains of this journey into the backrooms of
Swiss popular culture, is 'Intenta'. If you listen closely, it will reveal a nation on the move. Beyond the Matterhorn, there is sweetness and light.

Since a few years Alessandro Bosetti has been collecting voices that become part of the 'Plane/Talea' archive. The creation of the archive stems from dozens of individual meetings and recording sessions, in which each voice is detached from its owner or originator and anonymized. With each new iteration and performance, Bosetti plays the archive as if it were an instrument. He searches for hidden details and correspondences through exploration, immersion and contemplation. Each re-activation of the archive results in a dense and
swarming polyphony made up of thousands of short utterances - shorter than any word bearing a meaning - recombined and interwoven into complex textures. The particularity of the grain of 'Plane/Talea' lies in the autonomous and darting life that each of these fragments lives in a teeming community of voices. Such polyphonies are rich in microtonal detail emerging from the incessant juxtaposition of vocal objets trouvés. Harmonic relationships are sometimes rough and chaotic, other times surprisingly just. The voices are never treated electronically but only recombined and musical tension is provided by the particular grain, inflection, energy of each one of them in counterpoint to the others and to a frugally used instrumentarium (Harpsichord, Ondes Martenot, Cristal Baschet, grand piano, analog synth, Hammond organ). Implicit reference goes to ancient, modern and postmodern forms of vocal polyphony. 'Plane/Talea 31-34' -the continuation of the homonymous 2016 LP- is a work of sampling that projects an imaginary community and a disembodied choir. The four arching and extensive tracks were created between 2017 and 2018 and bear the trace of two specific moments: August nights in a country house in Vicobarone, in the hills of Piacenza (31-32) and a week-long residency at the Studio Venezia, an environment created by French artist Xavier Veilhan in the French pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale (33-34). Limited to 300 copies on black vinyl.

Henry Krutzen is a relatively shadowy figure in the history of experimental sound. Between the early '80s and the 2010s, there are only a handful of albums that bear his name, and very little information about them. A multi-instrumentalist and composer who studied percussion, saxophone, and harmony in various schools and jazz clinics across Belgium, over the years he played in a diverse range of musical projects across the idioms of jazz, new wave, heavy metal, experimental, chanson Française, world music and progressive rock, before relocating to Brazil during the early 2000s. 'Silances,' originally released by Igloo Records - the Belgian imprint founded in 1978 by Daniel Sotiaux - sitting alongside astounding and remarkably unique albums by Leo Küpper, Jacques Bekaert, Henri Chopin, Arthur Pétronio, André Stordeur, and numerous others, is an entirely singular gesture at the borders of sound poetry, musique concrète, and radical electroacoustic practice that draws upon disparate elements of drone, jazz, minimalism, ecstatic tribalism, and various traditions of music from across the globe. Decades on from its original release it remains as striking, unique, and compelling as it did upon its release.
In a note that Krutzen penned in 2022 when he was contacted for the reissue of 'Silances,' Krutzen recalls: "Since I was 16, I had been experimenting with concrete music with a technician friend and we used all a teenager's room could offer to make sounds into music: faucets, glasses of water, metal springs on ladders, objects of any kind... I had hours of recordings I pitched to Daniel [Sotiaux], to see if he was interested in making an album. I also had other ideas I wanted to be able to develop. What a joy when he accepted to work on the project! So I got to work. First, I set up a vocal improvisation quartet, and we spent long afternoons rehearsing using input I provided_ We went into the studio and recorded almost two hours of improvisation, from which I then chose the best moments for the final product." A collaboration between two up and coming stars of experimental music -Mette Rasmussen and Pak Yan Lau- offering glimpses of probable futures of improvisation. Mette Rasmussen is a Danish saxophone player based in Trondheim, Norway, who first gained attention as a member of Trio Riot, before increasingly branching out as solo artist, working with the likes of Alan Silva, Chris Corsano, Fire! Orchestra, Tashi Dorji, and Ken Vandermark. Drawing from a wide range of influences, from free jazz to textural soundwork, Rasmussen's practice delves into the exploration of the natural rawness of her instrument and its capacity for expression, with and without preparations.
Based in Brussels, Pak Yan Lau is a sound artist, improviser, musician, and composer. Over the last decade, she has developed her own singular sonic universe blending acoustic, electro-acoustic and electronic approaches and working both as a vocalist, as well as with prepared pianos, toy pianos, synths, electronics and various sound objects across a number of solo efforts, in addition to live and recorded collaborations with Chris Corsano, Akira Sakata, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, Tetuzi Akiyama, Rie Nakajima, and Darin Gray. Recorded in Antwerp during late 2017, 'Traditional Noise' features Rasmussen on alto sax, preparations, objects, voice, and Lau on toy pianos, synth, sampler, modified wok, typatune, and electronics, locked in an evolving, conversant sound expanse that pointedly avoids the explicitly musical as the two artists bristle against each other, delivering textural and tonal interventions defined by careful restrain and space.

'Block Gifts' is a collection of three works for organs composed by James Rushford between 2015 and 2018. Using harmonium, portative organ and electric organ, each piece is linked by Rushford's idiosyncratic combination of strict intervallic systems in different tunings (Werckmeister, quarter-tone, equal temperament), and haptically-informed rhythmic and expressive freedom. Creaks, stutters and sweeping fingers on keys become instrumental sounds in their own right, creating a further logical layer in Rushford's compositional world. An intimate, nocturnal, and slightly suffered dialogue between the instrument and the body building a shining and fragile monument to the ephemeral nature of the organ, one of the most intriguing and ancient families of musical instruments in history. RSD 2024 release. Overdue reissue of the first three 12" in the record series dedicated to musicians who took part to the Greetings festival. It happened in 1987, it was time for Materiali Sonori's 10th anniversary, an historic goal for the label/collective born in the small Tuscany village of San Giovanni Valdarno. The small celebration brought to life a box collecting the first 3 EPs of the 'Greetings From S.G.V.' series. The series was intended as symbolic sound postcard, made with various musicians with whom the collective label shared a path, whether small or long. The Durutti Column, The Stockholm Monsters and Blaine R. Reininger (Tuxedomoon) are among the artist who took part to the project, here collected for the very first time. Lantern is pleased to pay tribute to the work of people whose passion, attitude, commitment and genuineness inspired this adventure still true to these days. Vor-stellen is the experimental project of Brendan Moran, which blends fixated guitars and drums with ad-hoc electronic layers producing perforated waves of sustain which echoes off the fourth wall. Brendan has released work previously as part of avoid!avoid (their album 'Particle And Wave' was released by Flying Nun in 2016) and The Subliminals, of which Flying Nun re-released -in 2021- a vinyl edition of their highly acclaimed album 'United State.' With Vor-stellen he picks up where those other projects have left off as a foray into 'kraut' inspired compositions "which seek to transform pre-determined ideas of music into open-ended sound objects, untethered from any sense of conventional outcomes." On this, second VS record, he teams up with his Subliminal buddies once again to continue on an exploration, "folding the weird and the eerie into a dark ecology of long-sound via indefatigable environments of modulation and improvisation, creating sonic counterpoints that hinge on a reanimation of musical gestures." The record features two side long slow builders and are released in a beautiful Brendan Moran designed sleeve.

Concerts.'

From the early '70s to the mid-80s, this self-taught French
musician composed about twenty albums of production and library
music with generic cover art and titles ('Out Of The Way',
'Magical Ring', 'Keys Of The Future', 'Pulsations', 'More And
More', etc.) that evoke interstellar travel. These experimental
discs, made with love, humility and rudimentary means, had no
other purpose than to accompany other peoples' images.
However, now Jean Pierre Decerf is given the credits he
deserves: that of an innovator whose rhythmic, synthetic
compositions inspired the harbingers of the French Touch (Air comes to mind), not to mention some East Coast rappers.

'Forbidden Island' was Denny's third record, recorded after a nine-month residency in Hawaii. 'Forbidden Island' is a solidification of Denny being the King of the Exotica sound, where his recordings could illuminate just enough darkness across the tiki bar to let a few of us slowly dance the night away. Long before Denny started heading into outer space with his Moog work, he was keeping us just floating slightly above the ground with the sounds of the earth-and 'The Enchanted Sea' is one of his most grounded and beautiful works. Unlike many of his other exotica records (which are filled with the sound of the jungle, its wildlife, and the smell of the tiki bar smoke) this one has the feeling of a tumbler full of ice, walking barefoot on a sandy beach in the twilight, while breathing in the salt air. There are early glimpses here of where he was starting to head with psychedelic-treated pianos, ethereal female vocals, and abstract orchestration beginning to find their way into the listener's ears. It's an album that seems less comical than some of his earlier work, with an allure more from the heart, without the heartbreak (even though the occasional tinge of wistfulness surrounds it). Out of print since the 1960s. Comes on green vinyl.

In our modern world, everything ends up - or will end up - in the garbage dump or in a museum. Occasionally, objects make it to the museum by way of the dump. The record you are holding is one of those objects. With the exception of two songs that already came out on a 45, the material on this disk was destined to remain in the trash. In 1971, a very few copies were made on acetate in an attempt to attract the interest of record labels. One was miraculously found in July, 2010 in a Paris garbage dump (quai d'Issy). In the mid-60s, Jean-Pierre MIROUZE was hired to work on Jean-Christophe Avertys very popular and very "Pop" program "Dim Dam Dom." Mirouze was in charge of the shows soundtrack. In 1971, Hervé Lamarre, who had just finished shooting the film "Le Mariage Collectif" in Sweden, thought of using the "Dim Dam Dom" team to create the musical score for his film. This film, which claims to try to justify open relationships and sexual freedom, is actually a botched second-rate picture that combines evocations of the Beat Generation, hippie idealism and softcore nudity, in a work that is - quite frankly - uninteresting. Jean-Pierre Mirouze, because of his association with "Dim Dam Dom," was expected to bring a trendy touch to the project. Seeking to round out funding for what was, in essence, a commercial job, Mirouze went to Bagatelle, a Paris publisher specializing in film music, among other genres. While he was there, he played the melody of "Together" for them. These few notes were enough to convince the publisher to finance the recording of the soundtrack. Auditions were held, and Barry Green was recruited to sing the theme song. The recording was wrapped up in a week by a top-flight group of musicians, including Jean-Pierre Sabar, a talented organist who would be instrumental in the future success of the song "Sexopolis." Nine tracks were produced during these sessions. Bagatelle then started looking for a record label to issue the soundtrack album. In an attempt to interest record companies, a handful of test pressings were made, solely in the form of acetates. The songs on this album come from one of these acetates, found, in July, 2010, in a garbage dump. We could not have invented a story this strange. But let's get back to the film. It turned out to be a failure, and Bagatelle had a difficult time selling the soundtrack project. Finally, AZ (a French label) agreed to put out a 45 with "Together" on side A, billed as the "hit" from the film, and "Sexopolis" on the B side as an instrumental filler. The 45's release went completely unnoticed, of course. It was rediscovered in the early 2000s, thanks - ironically - to the song "Sexopolis," and became the Holy Grail for worldwide collectors of film music.

And so it started with an astonishing conjuction of circumstances, a lockdown, an unspeakable passion for Inspektor Derrick mixed with a long and precious love for the Korg MS10.
The streets were empty and the page was still blank for Jonathan Lieffroy, overactive self-taught musician from France. He who had always played with his mates in bands such Last Night, Master Master Wait or Infecticide was now facing his own
self, his own desires, and on his own confession this thought was pretty appealing. The lack of time due to the velocity of modern life rarely allow this kind of opportunity, this lockdown was a blessing in disguise and after all, he had nothing to lose. An imaginary OST for a curious German TV program from the '70s came out from his imagination. 10 instrumental songs of dark disco fulfilled with freakish synthetic noises and evocative beats from the last century.
But it would have been too easy to stop there, life took up its course again and this weird musical object took life as Tempomat, a three piece live band. Remember that period at the turn of the century when people were talking about lounge, exotica and easy listening? It was the so-called Cocktail Generation phenomenon, of which VIP 200, a quartet formed in Italy in 1999, was the ultimate expression as a band. The most important input came from the reissues and compilations of Italian soundtracks that debuted with great success at the time, and VIP 200's interpretations of them were genuine, rustic and rich in atmospheres that led back precisely to music for the image. Even cinema, like Quentin Tarantino, has been fascinated and inspired by that sound by quoting it several times. The comparison and real meeting of VIP 200 with the Marc 4 as well as Alessandro Alessandroni and the legendary Piero Umiliani was fundamental. Soon after, they were also called from abroad by cult figures who wanted to interact with them such as German composer Peter Thomas with whom they recorded in Saint Tropez, DJ Maxwell Implosion and sessions in Capri with Miss Maki Nomiya of the Pizzicato Five for her solo record. It was a period of transition, the word "easy" that started from the Adriatic Riviera via Rome and Milan had made its way to Berlin, London and Tokyo. Their live shows, as well as their first and only record, now re-released for the first time on double gatefold vinyl by Cinedelic with many outtakes, alternated between danceable moments with fast rhythms such as shake, beat and soul funk, to more ethereal and psychedelic, to softer and more ironic ones. They loosely and spontaneously re-presented songs that before then no one had ever performed live with a band; 10 years later Calibro 35 would get there.
All strictly from Italian composers or their own. Strong was the "fetishist" component that pushed them to research original instruments of the vintage, design, sound and atmosphere to be created. The Italian Ictus imprint was founded in 1976 by percussionist and composer Andrea Centazzo and his wife Carla Lugli. Running for just under a decade, until relaunching during the mid-2000s, the label produced a couple of dozen highly celebrated releases, the majority of which loosely fall under the banner of free jazz. Ictus' second batch of releases from the label's historic archives logically begins with Andrea Centazzo's 'U.S.A. Concerts,' originally issued in 1978 and out of print on vinyl for the majority of the time since. 'U.S.A. Concerts' draws on the same rough period when Centazzo was working in the United States at 'Environment For Sextet,' which was reissued in the previous batch, and features many of the same players - Polly Bradfield on violin, Eugene Chadbourne on guitar, Tom Cora on cello, Toshinori Kondo on trumpet and John Zorn on saxophone - in different configurations. In fact, the first, second, and seventh tracks - 'Sextet Improvisation,' 'Duet Improvisation 1,' 'Duet Improvisation 4' - were all recorded on the same day at the same location - WKCR Radio in New York on November 7, 1978 - as the aforementioned album.
Beginning with the brilliant textural and tonal explorations of the full ensemble encountered in 'Sextet Improvisation,' the album quickly moves toward quieter and more restrained investigations of roughly similar ground, moving through a series of duo improvisations between the percussionist and Eugene Chadbourne, Tom Cora, and the under-celebrated saxophonist, Jack Wright, whose howling horn is transformed to otherworldly effect by the reverberance of the space within which he works. From here Centazzo embraces the trio form with an improvisation with two more under-celebrated figures from the American scene - Davey Williams playing guitar and banjo, and LaDonna Smith on violin, viola, and voice - capturing a performance in Jackson, Mississippi on November 19, 1978, during which the three fire responsive statements that hang like barbs in the spacious air, before conceding the LP with a brilliant suite of duos with Toshinori Kondo, Williams, and Smith. Offering incredible insight into Centazzo's unique sensibility, as well as into the work of a new generation of stunning improvisers as they emerged at the tail end of the '70s, before going on to help define the '80s free jazz sound, 'U.S.A. Concerts' is a crucial artefact of free music at the juncture; fire on the boundaries of outright noise. An endlessly surprising journey between shifting between airy open passages that feature striking combinations of players, it's sure to knock the socks off more than a few well-seasoned fans.

Blending Native American references into a body of sonority that draws on free improvisation, experimental electronic music, and spiritual jazz, Pygmy Unit's 'Signals From Earth' - originally self-released by the band in 1974 - forges a singular and almost entirely unknown path, and stands almost entirely on its own in the history of west coast American jazz.
First appearing on the San Francisco scene sometime during the early 1970s, almost nothing is known about the Pygmy Unit, a seven piece band steered by Darrel De Vore, who contributed flute, bass, percussion, piano, and vocals to the band's lone LP, first appeared with percussionist Terry Wilson within the psychedelic folk rock band, The Charlatans, who belonged to the legendary Family Dog scene. Jim Pepper, a Native American tenor saxophonist known for being a member of the Mal Waldron Quartet, played with Charlie Haden, Don Cherry, and numerous others, and produced the cult favourite, 'Pepper's Pow Wow,' for Embryo Records in 1971. John Celona, who contributes parts on sax, synthesizer, and percussion, would later go on to be regarded as an electronic composer of some note. Of the remaining members, saxophonist Frank Albright, bassoonist Ron Grunn, and percussionist Marvin Kirkland, very little else is known. It seems this LP is more or less all they recorded.
While undeniably jazz - riding a remarkable line between avant-garde electronic music, spiritual jazz, and free improvisation - the band was very much a product of the diverse creative ferment that developed in their hometown of San Francisco during the 1960s. Embodying the raw spirit of DIY (many of the instruments used in the recordings were made by DeVore himself, self-described as an "itinerant flute-maker") the ensemble channels references - via passages of chanting and percussion, as well as conceptual underpinnings - from Jim Pepper's Native American roots, intuiting them with the soulfulness of spiritual jazz, wild moments of avant-gardism centred around synths and electronic effects, and explosions of wild free improvisation.

On the same trip to the United States that produced 'U.S.A. Concerts' and 'Environment For Sextet,' Andrea Centazzo also connected with the San Francisco-based Rova Saxophone Quartet, formed the previous year by Jon Raskin, Larry Ochs, Andrew Voigt and Bruce Ackley (all playing various saxophones). While not as well-known now as they once were, over the last 40+ years the ensemble has produced dozens of albums and collaborated with diverse figures like Anthony Braxton, Alvin Curran, Terry Riley, and Henry Kaiser. The first of those collaborations captured on tape was 'The Bay,' recorded in California during December of 1978. In Centazzo's own words: "At the end of the 1970s this group (R.O.V.A.) of four saxophone players appeared on the scene of improvised and jazz music, bringing with them a gust of fresh air in their unusual approach to themes, technical dexterity and daring choices of language contamination". Launching in with the almost symphonic piece, 'Trobar Clus,' which takes up the majority of the first side and deploys complex clusters tones and rhythms to startling effect, the album progresses through a series of pieces that follow Centazzo's disposition toward working across diverse arrangements of players, breaking down into trios, duos, and full ensemble works, each composed by the quartet, Centazzo, or in collaboration between the two. Utilizing compositional structures that allow broad spaces for improvisation, while highlighting each player's highly individual skill set within a various ensembles, trios, duets and solos, to underline the soloist skills of the musicians, and organizes the sound situations into ensembles, trios, duets and solos, 'The Bay' is a stunning piece of much neglected creativity, riding the American and Italian scenes, from the mid to late 1970s, as well as drawing the ear back toward the origins of The Rova Saxophone Quartet. When the U.S. State Department announced in the mid-1970s that they were sponsoring a South African tour for the Oklahoma-born, Paris-based saxophonist Hal Singer, producer Rashid Vally took note. Even though his nascent record label As-Shams/The Sun (established in 1974) was making waves on the local scene, the idea of commissioning a recording from an international artist was a ballsy idea. With a discography that stretched back to the 1950s, Hal Singer was already somewhat of a legacy artist by 1976. Vally was well-versed on Singer's accomplishments and specifically enamoured by his composition 'Blue Stompin',' which appeared on a Prestige album from 1959 that had struck a chord in South Africa. With his irresistible charm, Vally managed to coax Singer into a studio in Johannesburg, South Africa, to record a new version of 'Blue Stompin'' with South African sax star Kippie Moeketsi, which became the title track of a 1977 album by Moeketsi. The recording session also yielded an album's worth of new material by Hal Singer and his quartet that took its name from a track inspired by Singer's trip to South Africa entitled 'Soweto To Harlem.' Released in 1976 and only available in South Africa, 'Soweto To Harlem' captures a laid-back, cheeky and nostalgic rhythm and blues set from the Hal Singer Quartet that is unlikely to have emerged for a different target market.
Cinedelic's 2024 edition of this rare album is sourced from the original tape masters and presents it on vinyl internationally for the very first time. The reissue follows Singer's passing at the age of 100 in August 2020 as we contemplate and celebrate his extraordinary contribution to jazz in the United States and beyond.

Repress! 'Protest And Spirit Jazz From France 1970-1976'. While singles from the Stones, Who, Kinks and MC5 provided an incendiary soundtrack for the revolution, it was Black Americans who truly blew the world from its foundations in the 60s. Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Eric Dolphy, Albert Ayler and Archie Shepp left behind the jazz of their fathers' generation, liberating the notes, trashing the structures, diving headfirst into furious improvisations, inventing a new land without boundaries - neither spiritual nor political. Free jazz endowed the saxophone with the power to destroy the established order. In 1969, the Art Ensemble of Chicago arrived at the Théâtre du Vieux Colombier in Paris and a new fuse was lit. Their multi-instrumentalism made use of a varied multiplicity of "little instruments" (including bicycle bells, wind chimes, steel drums, vibraphone and djembe: they left no stone unturned), which they employed according to their inspirations. The group's stage appearance shocked as well. They wore boubous (traditional African robes) and war paint to venerate the power of their free, hypnotic music, directly linked to their African roots. They were predestined to meet up with the Saravah record label (founded in 1965 by Pierre Barouh), already at the vanguard of as-yet unnamed world music. Brigitte Fontaine's album Comme à la radio, recorded in 1970 after a series of concerts at the Théâtre du Vieux Colombier, substantiated the union of this heiress to the poetic and politically committed chanson francaise (Magny, Ferré, Barbara) with the Art Ensemble of Chicago's voodoo jazz and the Arab tradition perpetuated by her companion Areski Belkacem.

In 2016, Haitian voodoo band Chouk Bwa and electronic production duo The Angströmers united to form Chouk Bwa & The Angströmers. Chouk Bwa play traditional Haitian music; they would fit in the "mizik rasin" genre, alongside bands like Boukman Eksperyans, Boukan Ginen or Rasin Mapou from Azor.
However, until their decisive encounter with The Angströmers, their most characteristic feature was their loyalty to the essential elements of voodoo - therefore without any
instrumental addition. The Angströmers, an electronic music duo consisting of Nicolas Esterle and Frédéric Alstadt,
constitute one of the artistic emanations of the label The Angströmers. The Angströmers spread their music full of bass and echos, influenced by dub and drone music, all over the underground European stages. All along their encounter with the voodoo culture, they learn to expand their sound by immersing themselves into complex polyrhythms. They develop an electronic psychedelic music, free of all the codes of binary, 4/4 standards that dominate the club world.

It is known that good albums generate good shows, but in the case of this album, it's the opposite. 'Donato Elétrico' began to take shape following a show performed by the artist in 2014, at Sesc Pinheiros (Sao Paulo, Brazil). On that occasion, the musician released the emblematic album 'Quem E Quem' on stage, after a delay of more than 40 years. For this late release, Donato invited young musicians from Sao Paulo, with whom he had already been working on the idea of a new project, and who helped him recreate the original atmosphere of 'Quem E Quem,' full of grooves, whose essence was in the Joao's electric piano. After the show, it was sure that this meeting could yield much more. The result can be heard in 'Donato Elétrico,' a collection of themes that refer to a sound that Donato had left behind in his work from the '70s.

Les Disques Bongo Joe return to the scorching Kabyle rock of Abranis, the pioneering Algerian band that blended traditional Berber music with western rock, folk, disco, and funk, all the while proudly celebrating their Kabyle heritage. 'Amazigh Freedom Rock' is a comprehensive look into their discography, from the garage-rock experimentations of their early days to their lushly orchestrated North African fusion masterpieces of the 1980s. The Abranis story begins in the mid-sixties, when Shamy El Baz and Karim Abdenou crossed paths in one of Paris' bohemian neighborhoods. Both were Kabyle, the Berber people from Algeria's northern regions, both loved rock music, and both were passionate about fostering a modern Algerian sound, as inspired by Kabyle rhythms and melodies as it was by western rock. The two musicians founded Les Abranis in 1967. Together they experimented by mixing Kabyle vocals and melodies with garage and psych-rock but as the '70s progressed they increasingly moved away from the garage and psychedelia of their early days and began to interpret their Kabyle repertoire in more open and creative ways melting prog rock, jazz and some early electronic influences. Over 11 electrifying tracks, 'Amazigh Freedom Rock 1973-1983' highlights their legacy
as the underground kings of Kabyle rock.

'SYNTH RAI, CHAOUI & STAIFI, 1985-1997' - Les Disques Bongo Joe and Sofa Records proudly present a compilation of music from Maghreb recorded and produced in Lyon (France) between 1985 and
1997. It gathers eight tracks (plus introductions on the vinyl and CD versions) released back then on audio tape - and now for the first time on vinyl! Most of the musicians featured on this compilation lived in the Rhône-Alpes region - and enlivened its musical life, concentrated in the Guillotière district in the
centre of Lyon. As one of the epicentres of Maghrebian popular music in France's south-west, it is around that square that a real, unofficial, alternative and dynamic musical scene was carried and fostered by a nebula of musicians, publishers, shop
owners, restaurants and music cafés. At that time of profuse and emancipated musical crossbreeding, this compilation gives a glimpse of the epoch's vibe and trends - in which traditional songs, local influences and contemporary musical technologies were all mixed together. Throughout the compilation, songs belonging to Algerian popular repertoires are restyled through the use of synthesizers and drum machines, and often sound like pop, funk or disco tunes... Deeply tapped into the daily life of these musicians, they give us a glimpse of the reality of exile and situation of the immigrant, and speak about separation, uprooting, love, as much as social injustices and political events. They belong to the realm of the do-it-yourself, and to a time of unrestrained, free creativity!
