The music on this collaborational album is rooted in the Black American art form of jazz, stemming into the branches of free improvisation, noise and experimentalism while pushing to the edges of each idiom. The idiosyncratic playing of guitarist Jessica Ackerley starts off the album's title track and jumps headfirst into a Hendrix-tinged duo with drummer Jason Nazary. Patrick Shiroishi quickly joins in to take the energy up a notch with soprano sax wailing in both mimicry and opposition to Ackerley's phrasing. Just as the wall of sound is beginning to crack an abrupt halt shifts the energy and Luke Stewart's crawls dialogue with the smearing spattering trumpet solo from trumpeter Chris Williams.

COUNT RAVEN - THE SIXTH STORM (2LP)
Twelve years might seem like an unusually long time to hibernate. Then again, Sweden's doom legends Count Raven is one of those rare few bands with absolutely nothing left to prove... In their early beginnings, Count Raven released not one or two but three bonafide doom classics in as many years. Really, either of 'Storm Warning' (1990), 'Destruction Of The Void' (1992) or 'High on Infinity' (1993) is as fine an example as you can find of that crushing, Sabbathian traditional doom - which at the time was spearheaded by the Swedes, alongside the bands of the Maryland doom scene. Count Raven also solidified their status with one of the most spectacular comeback albums in doom, 2009's 'Mammons War'. With such a track record, it had better be worth it if the raven is to spread its wings and grace gray autumn skies again, right? Despite some personnel changes around guitarist/singer Dan Fondelius, the outing 'The Sixth Storm' bears all the trademarks of a band that knows exactly what it is and where it comes from. Had Count Raven not been a band so typically not prone to cliches, 'Well Worth The Wait' would have been an apt album title.

'GOLDEN CITY GOSPEL & KASI SOUL FROM THE NEW SOUTH AFRICA' - In apartheid-era South Africa, gospel music provided solace and served as a tool for covert communication to circumvent the censorship of the settler regime. By the 2010s, South African gospel, deeply ingrained in the soul of Soweto, assumed a new role... as a heartfelt cry against persistent failures and shortcomings, a cry mourning a South Africa that never materialized. A new South Africa needed a new gospel sound.
In 2016, nine young men from different parts of Diepkloof, a celebrated neighbourhood brimming with talent within Soweto's sprawling township, came together to form the sound of a new South Africa under the name Diepkloof United Voice. Diepkloof United Voice's music has gone viral multiple times on TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook, garnering between 60,000 to 2 million views. The comments section displays flag emojis from Brazil to India, showcasing the global reach of their music. This album was recorded on site in Soweto, in an abandoned classroom of Lebowa Elementary School in Diepkloof Zone 3, where the choir rehearsed for years. Amid rolling blackouts, Diepkloof United Voice poured their heart, soul, and vocal chords into their debut record, combining classic South Africa gospel, Soweto's own kasi soul, American blues, and Zulu flavor, to present the contemporary gospel sound of a changing South Africa. The promise of a new South Africa might finally be realized, as Diepkloof United Voice guarantees the country's future is guided by the truth, uttered with each gasp of breath from their inimitable voices.

A collection of stunning Persian-tuned piano pieces cut from Iranian national radio broadcasts made for the Golha programmes between 1956 and 1965. Morteza Mahjubi (1900-1965) was a Iranian pianist and composer who developed a unique tuning system for the piano which enabled the instrument to be played in all the different modes and dastgahs of traditional Persian art music. Known as Piano-ye Sonnati, this technique allowed Mahjubi to express the unique ornamental and monophonic nature of Persian classical music on this western instrument.

In January 2001, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart came together to see if they could reassemble Rush. With the help of producer Paul Northfield, the band produced 74 minutes of music for their lbum 'Vapor Trails', which was released in May 2002. The album was supported by the band's first tour in six years. On 13th May 2002, Rush performed at Philips Arena, Atlanta, Georgia, where they put on one of the very best shows of the entire tour. Recorded for live FM radio broadcast, this concert remains previously unreleased on vinyl, until now.

A double LP reissue of some of the band's earliest material. As originary Aussie industrial legends - although founder Tom Ellard would balk at being branded as such - Severed Heads shaped the continental subcultural sound with their kitchen electronics, chaotic tape loops, and quietly infectious nursery-rhyme-esque melodies. In 1979 Ellard, Richard Fielding, and Andrew Wright abandoned the moniker Mr. and Mrs. No Smoking Sign and adopted the edgier name Severed Heads "to pretend to be an industrial band such as Surgical Penis Klinik and Throbbing Gristle." 'Ear Bitten' was released in 1980; original copies now fetch obscene sums, in part due to most of Severed Heads' copies perishing in a fire at Richard's home. The band's next endeavor was a cassette titled 'Side 2,' a collection of free-form experiments fashioned as 'Ear Bitten's second side. For this reissue, Dark Entries has collected both 'Ear Bitten' and 'Side 2' on the first disc, presenting the album in its full form. Disc two includes the original first version of 'Ear Bitten,' which was only unreleased because it was recorded in a format not suitable for pressing. The album comes in a gatefold sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh and includes photos, liner notes, and reproductions of the original xerox inserts from the 1980 issue. 'Ear Bitten' delivers 22 tracks of pain you can dance to!

'Spiritual Jazz 16' is a focus on Riverside and its associated sister labels. Riverside itself was founded in 1953 by Orrin Keepnews and Bill Grauer, and became an important purveyor in that decade and beyond of what would be marketed as of modern jazz. 'Summer Forever And Ever' succeeds 'Blue Gene Stew,' 2019's debut by the Wolfmanhattan Project, a collective unit co-starring three musicians familiar to In The Red listeners: singer-guitarist Mick Collins, front man of the seminal Detroit-bred garage units the Dirtbombs and the Gories, singer-guitarist Kid Congo Powers who played in such legendary bands as the Gun Club, the Cramps, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and drummer-vocalist Bob Bert, whose skin work has distinguished albums by Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Lydia Lunch's Retrovirus, and Jon Spencer and the HITmakers. The group was founded as a studio project by three musicians who are kept busy by their primary bands. 'Blue Gene Stew' was written and recorded quickly. Powers says, "I think that the new record was much more a group effort. I think there's more of a group kind of sound, as eclectic as it is. I feel like we all played together, as opposed to playing on each other's songs." Bert notes that the band's music is grounded in spontaneity: "Me and Mick went in and had a couple of rehearsals, and I would come up with a beat, he would come up with a riff. I still have a cassette Walkman, believe it or not, and we'd put it down on that. It wasn't even a full song. We'd just put down a bunch of ideas. When it came to recording we'd lay down the basic tracks and work out different things, and a lot of it was made up on the spot. It really is a great collaboration." Recorded and engineered by Mark C. of Live Skull at his studio, 'Summer Forever And Ever' finds Powers playing piano and the Kaoss touch-pad effects unit and Collins playing synthesizer, in addition to their usual instruments. The album reflects the same eclectic mix of musical styles heard on the debut. References and sometimes even direct quotes from sources as diverse as the Andrea True Connection, Captain Beefheart, the Count Five, and Eurythmics leap out of the speakers.

The Wylde Ratttz formed in 1997 to record tracks by The Stooges for the film 'Velvet Goldmine'. With Ron Asheton as the secret weapon, the songs were easily dispatched and the band quickly organized a second session that produced a mixture of originals, covers of songs by The Pretty Things (one of Ron's favourite bands) and 40 minutes of killer instrumental tracks. The recordings also feature Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley, plus Mike Watt, Sean Ono Lennon and Don Fleming. The latter also was the producer. This is a limited edition on COLOURED VINYL.

That coinage was itself an amorphous, umbrella term that essentially created a demarcation from the vocabulary of pre-war classic jazz and inter-war big band swing, thus recognizing that improvising artists were breaking new creative ground that would subsequently give rise to a flurry of sub-genres, for example bebop, hard bop, cool, modal and Latin jazz.
