Nearly 10 years since it's initial release Myriam Gendron's cult classic debut finally gets a full European physical release + 2 new tracks that were not released on the original version. Feeling like both a trove of unearthed ancient folk and a fresh, immediate expression of a new voice, Gendron's album received a lot of praise. Remincent of the stately , skeletal beauty of the first few Leonard Cohen albums, or the plainspoken intimacy of Sibylle Baier, or Nico's wistful side, this fragile, magical collaboration with its spangly guitar-work and gamine vocals sends Cat Power/Karen Dalton/Ivor Cutler shivers through defiantly slanty songs. Equal parts soft and sorrowful, Myriam Gendron's stunning 'Not So Deep As A Well' LP became something of a sleeper hit upon its initial release back in 2014. Her debut album shone a warm lamp-light glow upon a curious and captivating new voice in the Quebecois folk world. Recorded alone in her apartment, with no knowledge of sound engineering, it could almost be a lost artefact, a dust-lined document of a forgotten time and place. Taking the poems of Dorothy Parker, whose work Gendron stumbled upon by chance in a Montreal bookstore, she imbues the words with a graceful, gentle expression, a lingering sense of sorrow always present. A stark, spellbinding collection, 'Not So Deep As A Well' is raw and unyielding in so many ways we no longer expect to hear. As if sitting in the room with her, Gendron's voice is cracked and unadorned, quietly forced into a push and pull between the quietude of the songs and the noisy world outside.

BOUZIDA, NASSER - MR BONGO MAN
Nasser Bouzida is a self-taught musician who has been playing and composing since the ripe age of 15. He made his TV debut on 'Saturday Superstore' when he was just 12 years old. Starting his journey on his mum's pots and pans, she eventually bought him a drum kit, and he slowly started playing percussion, bass guitar, piano and keyboards, eventually moving on to production and mixing too. Nass formed the ska band The Loafers with his school mates when he was just 15. They backed Laurel Aitken for two years and regularly supported Desmond Dekker and Bad Manners. He has since played in groups such as Skooby, Espadrille and currently Big Boss Man (with his life-long friend Trevor Harding), also recently releasing a solo reggae/roots/ska album under the pseudonym Big Boss Sound.
Nasser has also contributed on recordings from Morcheeba, Prince Fatty, Holly Golightly and The Link Quartet to name a few, also collaborating with Fay Hallam, remixing Paul Weller's version of 'The Bottle' (the Big Boss Man remix), and is also a visual artist. Following Nasser's solo 7" and LP releases in 2023, here again we see multi-instrumentalist Nasser Bouzida in his purest form... 'Mr Bongo Man' is a dance floor smash, with two versions for choice, along with a selection of the effects and scratches for your very own artistic expression. Limited to 300 copies.

CTMF (The Chatham Forts) was the first group name Billy Childish came up with for a group whilst he was Head of Research for The Medway Military Research Group - investigating the Medway Fortifications (as well as being an Apprentice Stonemason at Chatham Dockyard, Kent, 1976). It wasn't until 2013 that Billy got around to utilising the name. CTMF features his wife Julie on bass/vocals and Wolf Howard on drums (both playing with Billy in previous incarnations over the years). CTMF - described by Billy as `the epitome of modern: the sound of yesterday, tomorrow!', CTMF have released ten albums and over thirty singles/EPs. Come September 2024, The CTMF found themselves in the studio, the tape machine running. Quick as you like Julie (bass) suggested they record three of her favourite 'hits' from The Yardbirds song book. Precision bass in hand, and taking lead vocals (with their 14 year old kid Atticus on backing vocals), The CTMF got to work, thus revealing these manley Yardbirds ditty's are gems for the female voice also. Top marks! 'For Your Love' takes Face A, with 'Shapes Of Things' and 'A Certain Boy' for Face B. Limited to 500 copies.

The Pastel Waves are a Medway-based indie band who fuse their collective influences of new wave, indie and Brit pop. With a full line-up in 2017, it was actually 2015 that Rob Percy and Chris Parsons (previous members of Medway band Speedwell) began writing new material together. Soon after, they knew they was onto something with this new project, and thus invited Joe Liste Romero and Mike Grigson (previous members of Medway band The Ambience) to join to add drums and vocals to the songs' bare bones. Their debut album 'All Things To All People' was released in March 2019 on Trouserphonic Records, with a follow-up digital single 'Ten,' and the CD EP 'I Hate Myself For Wanting It' in May 2020. In April 2021, the band released 'The Influencers EP' on vinyl via Spinout Nuggets, with four strong tracks, each receiving enough attention to force them to continue recording. The band released their second album, 'Back In The Land Of The Living', in 2022, also receiving much interest. A limited lathe cut 7" was released in 2023. The Pastel Waves found themselves in The Moon Studio, under the hands of Rob Grigg (ex-The Dentists, currently These Guilty Men), with some time to gain four songs for two continuous grooves, including strings and arrangements by The Pastel Waves, Richard Moore and Clementine Canpont. Limited to 250 copies.

Les Disques Bongo Joe is reissuing 'Au Revoir,' the debut album by Société Étrange, originally released in 2015 on the Lyon-based label S.K. Records, and now considered a cult classic. This Lyon trio, composed of Antoine Bellini (electronics), Romain Hervault (bass), and later joined by Jonathan Grandcollot (percussion), explores a minimalist instrumental soundscape, where repetition and tension play a central role. 'Au Revoir' was created with a raw and intuitive approach, mostly composed during the group's earliest days. At the time, Antoine and Romain were working as a duo,
experimenting with drum machines and electronic sounds inspired by the post-punk of the '80s, the robotic grooves of Neu! and Cluster, and the DIY spirit of early hip-hop. The result is a music that is both hypnotic and introspective, where the presence and absence of sonic elements balance with minimal precision. Between electronic layers and winding bass lines, the tracks move forward like on a foggy road, uncertain but
captivating. This reissue is more than just a re-release of an out-of-print album. It is a testament to the evolution of Société Étrange, a group that blurs genre boundaries, seamlessly blending post-punk, krautrock, dub, and electronic minimalism. This is the third release by Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Trio Convulsant, various with John Zorn) and Kevin Rutmanis (Tomahawk, Melvins, Cows, Hepa/Titus). On this outing Trevor joins Lords and Lady Kevin (duo of Kevin Rutmanis and drummer/artist Gina Skwoz) for a full length LP 'Last Days At Hot Slit.' Songs are loosely based on assorted gospel, blues and jazz songs, some original, some covers. Included is a re-working of Mingus' 'Devil Woman.' The trio based the pieces on improvisations that were then arranged and used to build free standing songs. A multitude of instruments were exploited by all those involved, to create a sizzling blend of aural delicacies. The album title is from a collection by writer Andrea Dworkin, often sited as the Celine of feminism. Less outre perhaps than their previous recordings, these songs hover somewhere between soundtrack-like excursions, to jazz/blues mutations to a demented "rock" sounding affair. Something for everybody, or perhaps, nobody! Uniting former and current members of Tomahawk, 'Last Days At Hot Slit' marks a powerful reunion between Rutmanis and Dunn. The record took shape gradually, born from Rutmanis's raw, unconventional bass recordings. "I sent Trevor a phone recording of some hideous bass racket and asked if he wanted to add anything," Rutmanis shares. "What he sent back was something like delicious fresh cherries with ice and banana slices." The pair's combined creativity gave rise to a new, immersive soundscape, while their collaborative piece, 'Crack Pot Whore Head,' set the tone for the current formation of Lords and Lady Kevin.

There's also a strong nod to the playful computerised harmonies of Yellow Magic Orchestra whilst she's somewhat partial to the synth prog of Yes and Soft Machine.
Thoughout her work (but especially on this record) you can hear the influence of computer games. You'll also see and hear such influences on the lead single from the album 'Midnite Rogue' the video to which pays (im)perfect juddering homage to such arcade culture. Car tyres glued to sticky tarmac, French pop music lost in the air. The title was inspired by a Fighting Fantasy book which she adored as a kid. "I love the idea of this entity causing mischief during night time," she beams. It's not hard to see why. Released on pink vinyl.

Collaborative mini album by two musicians highly esteemed for decades in the electronic music scene, Simon Posford and Raja Ram, 'Improvisations For Piano & Flute': as the title suggests, a series of fully improvised compositions by the two legendary musicians. The 44-minute flow of this album is more contemplative and analog in nature than anything in the pair's previous output in their three decades of collaborative work, yet equally mesmerising and consciousness-expanding. This album is a significant departure from their usual output in its focus on the interplay of Raj's lyrical flute playing and Simon's noodling at the piano, with almost imperceptible synthesized atmospheric support that seamlessly unites analog and digital realities. These improvisations were recorded in Posford's living room instead of the usual studio because the musicians found that it provided more of the desired ambience. With a synthesizer placed atop an antique Bluthner piano, either Raj or Simon would begin playing and the other would join in - nothing prepared, decided, or arranged: just live, in-the-moment inspiration. This spontaneity infuses each track with such magnetic energy that the listener is inevitably drawn into each note, phrase, and piece. The whole album is supremely chill and introspective, with a grand arc to the storyline of 8 tracks that Shpongle fans will recognize from the dynamic duo's internationally prized discography. 'Improvisations for Piano & Flute' is a salve for the soul, providing an atmospheric antidote to the relentless stress and fast pace of our increasingly complex world - a great way to kick back, tune in, and refresh.

'Gli Occhi Freddi Della Paura' (Cold Eyes Of Fear) is a 1971 thriller film directed by Enzo G. Castellari (who also directed 'Quel Maledetto Treno Blindato,' one of Quentin Tarantino's absolute favorites), with the participation of an international cast of actors including Frank Wolff, Fernando Rey, Julian Mateos and Karin Schubert. Set almost exclusively inside a villa where a kidnapping takes place, the film relies on one of the darkest and most terrifying soundtracks by Ennio Morricone, where melody is practically non-existent in favour of dreadful and claustrophobic atmospheres. As performers, directed by Bruno Nicolai, we find an ensemble Morricone himself was a part of, named Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, that perfectly execute the dissonant and avant-garde sounds of the score. When the groove kicks in, the music recalls the revolutionary fusion/jazz rock of the late '60s/early '70s Miles Davis. 'Gli Occhi Freddi Della Paura' remained secret and unreleased for almost 30 years, and it's still constantly sought after by collectors and soundtrack lovers. This time reissued as clear pink vinyl with remastered audio.

It's one of the French director's six movies that feature a soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone, who here managed to describe the thrilling atmosphere of this high-voltage espionage, alternating dramatic and mysterious passages ('Assassinio Sul Lago,' 'Il Serpente') and experimental ones ('Astrazione Con Ritmo,' 'Esplicitamente Sospeso') to other soft and sensual ('Canzone Lontana'), still with the amazing contribution of Edda Dell'Orso and Alessandro Alessandroni's I Cantori Moderni. 'Tema Per Una Donna Sola' is a sweet and melancholic theme with modern rhythmic patterns; There is also music with a danceable flavor such as 'Nadine' with organ, groovy drums and rock guitars, always with Cantori Moderni's wonderful voices, a solemn church organ-only composition ('Orazione') and an excited march ('Parata Militare'). Yet another soundtrack that remained unpublished for decades and rediscovered only at the end of the '90s, 'Le Foto Proibite...' is a very varied work in which Ennio Morricone, as usual, manages to adapt his scores to light-hearted ('Allegretto Per Signora,' 'Intermezzino Pop,' 'Secondo Intermezzino Pop'), romantic ('Le Foto Proibite Di Una Signora Per Bene,' 'Amore Come Dolore,' 'Quelle Foto') and hectic moments ('Qui Ci Scappa Il Morto,' 'Bella, Cara, Dolce, Buona Mogliettina Per Bene,' 'Caduta Nel'Inconscio,' 'Nel Vuoto') that the movie consists of. King Tubby, a pioneering figure in dub music, collaborated closely with producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee to help give life to the genre. Tubby, who had a strong background in electronics, accidentally created the dub music when an engineer forgot to include the vocal track during a recording session. Tubby's early dub albums, including 'Dub From The Roots,' 'The Roots Of Dub,' and 'Brass Rockers,' became foundational to the genre. These albums featured his innovative mixing techniques and collaborations with top musicians, marking the first official releases under the name King Tubby. In these albums is where he mixed it with the horn going in and out in a dub way and he created another record 'Shalom Dub' where he mixed the versions as they were off forty fives.
