As the COVID pandemic took hold in 2020 and lockdown restricted movement to your immediate surrounds, the legendary British doom outfit wondered if they might ever play live again. Out in the wilds of the English Westcountry where singer/guitarist Jus Oborn and guitarist Liz Buckingham live, the band descended into their crypt-like jam space to make a live album like no other. With no audience, and no actual plan to release what they came out with, they recorded themselves into a 16-track tape machine to capture their essence, their malevolence, their heaviness. "We'd been gigging for two years at that point, around America three times, going to Japan and Australia, and we were sounding pretty good by the end of it," says Jus. "When the pandemic happened, we thought, 'Fuck it, maybe we'll never play again.' So we went into the jam room and played the songs to get them on tape to capture how we were playing at the time." The final product, 'Black Magic Rituals And Perversions Vol. 1' is as raw and heavy as one would expect from The Wizard. For fans of Acid King, Sleep, Bongzilla, Eyehategod, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, Thou, Weedeater, Black Sabbath. Edition on transparent mint green vinyl.

Reissue of Italian hard-prog gem from 1972: the golden age of progessive rock. Sicilian band Flea, originally Flea On The Honey, debuted in 1971 with a British pop-psych-inspired album. Their lineup included brothers Agostino (drums) and Antonio Marangolo (vocals/keyboards), Carlo Pennisi (guitar/vocals), and Elio Volpini (bass/vocals/sax), many of whom later joined Goblin, the famed horror score masters. Their second album, 'Topi O Uomini,' showcases unleashed creativity. The 20-minute title track blends hard rock, blues, and psychedelia with seamless precision. Side two features tracks like 'Sono Un Pesce,' merging dreamy acoustics with jazz improvisation. This unique 1972 release has been reissued on transparent red vinyl, faithfully preserving the original artwork.

NIGHT COLLECTORS - HEAT FURY
Night Collectors was birthed outta the opaque permahaze of the SF Bay Area in the last decade. Their sound - a psychedelic and unyielding droning rock & roll; a modal blues at turns smeared and incisive and always reaching, reaching, reaching for transcendence. Their dead-level street gospel is disseminated live at peaked volumes amid stroboscopic light washes for a hypno-narcosis, all in one painless pill. 'Heat & Fury' came about in fits and starts amid the pandemic era and after many years of rehearsing and live performances. The group's initial recordings took place in Oakland at the famed Tiny Telephone studios, in February of 2020. When the societal shutdown took hold - and with only a few tracks recorded and no telling when a return to a studio or in-person playing would occur - it was decided to scrap the idea of a full length and release two of the tracks via a 7" (on Debacle Records). Once the lock was lifted and life returned to its usual ways, NC returned to the studio in 2022/2023 to finish up the album they had started years earlier. They now present to the world and its yearning ears, their rock'n'roll offering on record. Only a handful available here, so first come, first served.

Once the invite was extended I knew I had to drop some money on new pedals. Haha. Not that I don't have enough already but jamming with Yawning Man means you have to build a massive pedal board and try to get the most "out there" sounds you can. At least that's what it means to me. Another aspect is once we start jamming I like to improvise riffs but keep them in mind so I can return to them throughout the jam. It was an honor to share a few hours playing with those dudes and I'm always surprised how much material we get out of it. Volumes 3 and 4 were recorded in one five hour session April 20th, 2024 in Joshua Tree, CA."

With four CDs of live recordings from the period recorded at the Ellis Auditorium in Memphis, at the 1970 Isle Of Wight Festival, the 1972 Mar y Sol Pop Festival in Puerto Rico and at the more intimate settings of Gilligan's Club in Buffalo, New York. The latter recorded by legendary producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin) with The Electric Ladyland Mobile Unit.

For a soundtrack to the end of the world, there is no band better than Electric Wizard. As the COVID pandemic took hold in 2020 and lockdown restricted movement to your immediate surrounds, the legendary British doom outfit wondered if they might ever play live again. Out in the wilds of the English Westcountry where singer/guitarist Jus Oborn and guitarist Liz Buckingham live, the band descended into their crypt-like jam space to make a live album like no other. With no audience, and no actual plan to release what they came out with, they recorded themselves into a 16-track tape machine to capture their essence, their malevolence, their heaviness. "We'd been gigging for two years at that point, around America three times, going to Japan and Australia, and we were sounding pretty good by the end of it," says Jus. "When the pandemic happened, we thought, 'Fuck it, maybe we'll never play again.' So we went into the jam room and played the songs to get them on tape to capture how we were playing at the time." The final product, 'Black Magic Rituals And Perversions Vol. 1' is as raw and heavy as one would expect from The Wizard. For fans of Acid King, Sleep, Bongzilla, Eyehategod, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, Thou, Weedeater, Black Sabbath.

This release takes us back to the early beginnings of the Gear Fab Label in 1986. GF101 was Gear Fab's first release: a 45 picture jacket by founder Roger Maglio's cover band The Borrowed Times, 'Walk Away Rene' b/w 'Tobacco Road.' GF102, another picture jacket 45, contained two tracks from 'Songs From The Rocks': 'A Cold Day In December,' on 9 December, 1980, one day after the assignation of John Lennon, b/w 'Flower Child.' GF103 was a full length LP containing 9 tracks, 8 original compositions and one cover. Roger plays all the instruments on the album, which feature some nice heavy organ, fuzz guitar and string arrangements, as well as a surf tune about the beaches of Long Island back in the 1960s.

"Bob Balch here. When Gary Arce mentioned that Yawning Man was gonna record and we should do another round of Yawning Balch jams I was super stoked. I'll always jam with those guys. Once the invite was extended I knew I had to drop some money on new pedals. Haha. Not that I don't have enough already but jamming with Yawning Man means you have to build a massive pedal board and try to get the most "out there" sounds you can. At least that's what it means to me. Another aspect is once we start jamming I like to improvise riffs but keep them in mind so I can return to them throughout the jam. It was an honor to share a few hours playing with those dudes and I'm always surprised how much material we get out of it. Volumes 3 and 4 were recorded in one five hour session April 20th, 2024 in Joshua Tree, CA."

EXPLOITED - TOTALLY EXPLOITED
One of the most popular and notorious of all British hardcore acts, the Exploited were formed on a dire Edinburgh council estate in 1978 by singer Terry Buchan and guitarist Stevie Ross, although Buchan's brother Wattie would soon become leader and the lineup seldom stayed stable. Influenced by the Pistols, they built their large working class and skinhead following through an aggressive, fast-paced, and uncensored hardcore style. Gathering singles from their street punk days and the best tracks from their first three albums, 'Totally Exploited' was the band's first compilation and it remains the best by far. Essential Exploited! Comes on coloured vinyl.

In commemoration of soul singing legend Ural Thomas's 85th birthday, Cairo Records and The Albina Music Trust present 'Nat-Ural'! This giant tribute to Ural's 70 year music career includes an LP, a 7", a thirty six page 12" x 12" full color book, five postcards, a newspaper fold out, a 11" X 17" poster and beautiful printed inner sleeves. The LP: these 8-track recordings are from the early '90s - possibly some begun as early as late '80s. There are synthesizers, drum machines, a chorus of vocal overdubs, guitars, bass, drums... a full band all Ural, recorded at home and now for the first time on LP. The 7": two songs Ural recorded in the early 1960s at home with a bunch of kids from the neighborhood. Side A is the avant garde funk masterpiece 'Fade Away' - featuring kids blowing into ten foot long bed posts outfitted with trombone slides. Side B is the sweet, simple soulful and life affirming ballad, 'Smile.' The booklet: This 12" x 12" full color book features a long interview with Ural, interviews with his contemporaries and tons of great photos. It covers his whole career as a soul singing legend. The postcards: five postcards featuring pictures of Ural from various stages of his career. The fold out newspaper: an old article about Ural's struggles with the city of Portland and a new article about how great Ural is on the other side. "This collection gathers a set of classic Tito Puente tracks from his decade long stint with the RCA Victor label with a very specific set of criteria: to assemble the best tracks that
exemplify the blueprint for what would become known as salsa.
Though it may seem obvious or perhaps even a fool's errand to
dedicate a compilation to this theme, since everything Tito
recorded was full of "salsa y sabor" (sauce and flavor), it's
actually perhaps the first of its kind in that every recording here is specifically chosen for today's salsa dancers, in whichever style they choose to dance, with an emphasis on the guaguancó rhythm and mambo arrangement. Tito's RCA sessions produced the most high quality, incredible sounding recordings of the epoch, and they more than hold their own by today's sonic standards. For this reason, Grosso! has collected two dozen of Tito's finest golden era nuggets for the dance floor, with a concerted emphasis on midtempo numbers with clear percussion patterns that easily fit the modern salsa aesthetic. Many of these tracks, such as 'Cuando Te Vea,' 'Complicación,' 'Agua Limpia Todo,' 'Con Sandunga' and 'Guaguancó Margarito' are directly connected to traditional Afro-Cuban rumba or Santería rituals through their original composers, rhythm structure, lyrical content and melodies. Indeed, they could all be performed -and some were- as strictly percussion and vocal rumbas, but the real difference is what Tito Puente did with the instrumentation, arrangements, vocals and pacing, turning them into the big band extravaganzas that caused "mambo mania," routinely working his audiences into a frenzy on the dance floor." ~Pablo "Bongohead" Yglesias, December 2024. Long awaited reissue for an obscure anarcho punk classic! Formed in London in 1977, the Straps released two singles on their Donut label before releasing this 12-track punk rock smasher in 1982, and this is the first reissue since then (let alone a CD compilation on Captain OI! from a few years back, which included a big portion on this LP). Over the years, the Straps shared members with Sex Gang Children, Crisis, UK Subs, Theatre Of Hate, The Damned, P.I.L. and The Wall, and despite the frequent line-up changes they made it to this day alive and kickin'. Nonetheless, this is by far the peak of their career and one the most criminally underrated classic of the UK-82 era.

BULL, SANDY - LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO LATE 1969
Sandy Bull's unorthodox approach to guitar was as unique as his personal circumstances. Son of jazz harpist Daphne Hellman and brother to the sitarist Daisy Paradis, Bull became part of the bourgeoning Greenwich Village folk circuit. A move to San Francisco in 1963 found him sharing an apartment with Nubian oud master, Hamza El Din, which had a profound effect on his playing, spurring early world music experiments. The previously unreleased 'Live In San Francisco' features bluesy electric 'Memphis, Tennessee' and 'Instrumental Blues,' plus the abstract 'Untitled Instrumental' and 'Solo Experimental,' all classic morsels of Bull wizardry.

After exiting Buster Summers Express, Leeds-based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Derek Noy formed Jan Dukes De Grey with woodwinds player, Michael Bairstow, soon opening for Pink Floyd and the Who, though LPs 'Sorcerer' and acid folk masterpiece 'Mice And Rats In The Loft' sold poorly. After line-up changes, in 1977, Noy assembled a new crew for 'Strange Terrain,' cut at Brittania Row with Roger Waters co-producing, but the album's curious mix of post-prog, acid rock and punk was deemed unsuitable for release until 2010! This edition comprises the complete original LP, just as delivered at its time of recording. Essential!!

Psychedelic pop act Jawbone had ample talent and keen industry connections yet remained unjustly obscure. Core members had been active in The Mirage, who signed with CBS and later recorded for Philips; drummer David Hynes and bassist/future Elton John Band mainstay Dee Murray briefly joined the Spencer Davis Group, but regrouped as Portobello Explosion, which became Jawbone. Their rare self-titled debut, released by Carnaby in 1970, had an undercurrent of Americana, and there's a one-off cover of The Beatles' 'Across The Universe;' this edition features bonus track 'Way, Way Down,' a non-LP Carnaby 45.

Known as 'the Architect of Rock'n'Roll,' the flamboyant rhythm and blues extrovert Little Richard made an incredible impact with unorthodox piano playing and rasping, shouted vocals, yielding a series of pivotal hits in the mid-1950s, but he abandoned secular music for gospel following a tour of Australia in 1957. Lured back into rock by promoter Don Arden, his UK tour featuring The Beatles as support, 'Little Richard Is Back' was his comeback set for Vee Jay, his voice now deeper and seasoned; the range of covers are tackled with plenty of pep, and original 'Groovy Little Suzy' was co-written by Harry Nilsson. Though only ever released in Japan in 1970 and in sore need of reissue (affordability not being among the virtues of an original copy), 'Green Line' sits easily alongside the most progressive jazz albums of the early '70s, many of which featured the work of the quartet's alumni, namely Sharrock's uncredited appearance on 'Yesternow' for Miles Davis' 'A Tribute To Jack Johnson,' Vitous' early fusion-defining tenure with Weather Report, and Marcus' collaboration with Japanese jazz-rock outfit Jiro Inagaki and Soul Media. And so, 'Green Line' was ultimately the beginning and end of its own trajectory, but damn, what a glorious path it blazed.

Obscure psychedelic gospel act Methuselah had its roots in Scunthorpe 'Beat' group the Dimples, which became Gospel Garden, whose only 45 infused northern soul with psych leanings. Regrouping as Methuselah, the group signed to Elektra for this sole religious rock concept LP, their sound deceptively American, with vocal harmonies evidencing bluegrass influences; guitarist Les Nicol is never short of excellent. Certain members would later form Amazing Blondel, but 'Matthew, Mark, Luke And John' has a unique flavour, and this edition includes two rare bonus tracks. This slice of obscure psych must be heard to be believed!

The Orient Express' sole LP from 1969 stands today as an early experiment in world fusion - and a pretty successful one at that, at least artistically. Guitarist Guy Duris is a Frenchman who became enamored with the oud, a classical Arabian guitar. Belgian Bruno Giet is a bass player with a rock background. Iranian Farshid Golesorkhi is an award-winning percussionist in the Persian tradition. As a trio, they only left 35 minutes for posterity, but these minutes are filled with interesting ideas and kitschy songs, all originals.

STRAZZERI, FRANK - AFTER THE RAIN
The pianist and bandleader Frank Strazzeri enjoyed a distinguished jazz career. After backing Billie Holiday and Woody Herman, Strazzeri became a mainstay of the west coast jazz scene. His excellent album 'After The Rain,' released by Catalyst in 1976, straddled different styles and moods, Strazzeri's piano and synth melodies abetted by top accompaniment from Herman's horn alumni Sam Most and Bobby Shew, playing alongside Cal Tjader's bassist Harvey Newmark and percussionist Don Alias of Blood Sweat and Tears, with Strazzeri's son Steve behind the drumkit. Another fine fusion LP from Strazzeri that's ripe for rediscovery.

Unjustly overlooked at its time of release, the duo's first blues album finds Tina's passionately powerful voice holding plenty of grit and Ike's guitar a restrained accompaniment throughout; the take of Sonny Boy Williamson's 'Crazy 'Bout You Baby' has gripping electric piano and buzzing blues harp and Ike's 'Grumbling' is a killer guitar groove.
