A fabulous mini LP from London based, Japanese psych band Barbican Estate. Four beguiling tracks of atmospheric, occasionally acid folk flavoured, melodic freakout shifts, taking in tips of the hat to Popol Vuh (check Miri's beautiful vox on 'Angel'), Amon Düül and fellow countrymen Acid Mothers Temple and Kikagaku Moyo amongst others. Formed in 2019, this three-piece consists of Kazuki Toneri (guitar, sitar), Miri (bass, flute, vocals), and Koh Hamada (drums, percussion). Each member is well-versed in music, film, and various other arts, drawing inspiration not only from experimental, psychedelic rock, and noise music but also from art across the world, both past and present. Their music weaves solid, architectural elements with destruction into a dark and gloomy soundscape, is often described as "dark psychedelic." They released their first album, 'Way Down East,' in 2021. In 2022, they relocated to London, where they performed on UK tours and at festivals. Having already played nearly 50 live shows, they are gaining attention in the local scene. Their EP 'Viscum' was released in June 2024. 'Barbican City Of Tokyo' is a compilation of tunes previously consigned to digital release only that label head Dom had free rein to assemble an EP from, which luckily the band wholeheartedly agreed upon! ...and all four tracks appear on vinyl here for the first time. This release hopefully cements a growing interest in the band's fabulous music, and early reviews of both the LP here and their live shows are overwhelmingly positive. Limited to 100 copies, so be fast!

The Dovers from Santa Barbara, California! Thee legendary mid-sixties folk-punk-psych masters' singles collection finally sees an upgraded reissue. Taken from the original tapes used in 2001, all the singles A & B sides have been carefully mastered for a superior audiophile experience. This gatefold edition on 12" will provide extensive and updated liner notes besides the awesome research done by worldwide garage expert #1, Mike Markesich who made it all possible since day one, interviewing the members of these extremely rare but sough-after tracks by garage, folk and psych collectors worldwide. The master tapes assembled by garage collector Mark Taylor have been originally restored at Erik Lindgren's Sounds Interesting studios and now they've taken to Forward Analog Studios to achieve thee best sounding source available so far. While in the past decade the limited pressing of 500 copies have been authorized by the band, a few years ago a lame bootleg of this collection appeared on the US market, making its price circulating at 100$ and more. Since then at Misty Lane they've tried a few upgrades but nothing sounded as good as today's result. When a team of experts gather in a unique studio like the Forward studios you can bet it will bring unexpected, awesome result. This is what happened! And so there is a new release on the way, on 12" this time (a few customers during the past 25 years have criticized the original 10" format, so there you go...). Misty Lane has also given a slightly different graphic twist: a lighter design but at the same time richer in information. A limited edition of only 150 numbered copies will be pressed, so be sure to pre-order yours now. Distributors will probably ignore this release so it'd be useless to press more. Also useless to say the price of this release is going to stop the rush that has been on Discogs in recent years. Anyway you can always look for the original singles of this fantastic band, provided that you have a few tens of thousands of dollars! Only a handful available, here, so first come, first served!

Japanese version on coloured vinyl. While Les Rallizes Dénudés' 'YaneUra Oct. '80' was being prepared for release, a mysterious tape was unearthed. Discovered amid the piles of recordings left behind by frontman Takashi Mizutani, the undated cassette contained no recording info, and was referred to as "Unknown" during the archival process. There was no mistaking the sound that was heard on the tape, however: the twin guitar interplay between Mizutani and Fujio Yamaguchi, the former Murahachibu guitarist whose addition to the Rallizes ushered in a new era for the band. This particularly clean recording was initially thought to be a forgotten studio recording, as corroborated by ex-members and others close to the band. Ultimately, upon further research and meticulous listening, it was determined that the tape in fact contained a board recording of a set played at YaneUra in Shibuya, Tokyo, on September 11, 1980.
The raw intensity of this performance feels far removed from the looser sounds heard on YaneUra Oct. '80, which occurred just a month later. The set begins with 'Flame Of Ice,' which heats up considerably as the song reaches the middle point. Then, coming down like an avalanche are wilder than usual versions of 'Reapers Of The Night' and 'The Night, Assassin's Night,' followed by 'The Last One.' 'YaneUra Sept. '80' captures a flashpoint in the band's Fujio-era lineup, which ultimately lasted only half a year or so. At the same time, it is bursting with the bottomless potential that the 1980s Les Rallizes Dénudés possessed deep within.

After the 'Robot Riot' EP on Cat Machine, Frenzy signed to Nervous for top-notch debut Hall Of Mirrors, Brand replaced by Kevin Saunders in the process. Whitehouse's rockabilly roots contrast Saunders' and Pepler's outside orientation, yielding a more rounded sound, and along with graveyard and asylum motifs, there's a good dose of teen angst too. Die Böslinge were one of the first punkbands in Austria, founded by Erwin, Harry and Peter in 1979 and played at all punk places in Vienna back then, like Amerlinghaus, Gaga, Steinhof (Mental Ward), Arena, etc. Their only output was a self released 7" single, one of the rarest punk records from Austria, limited to only 200 copies, a solid 1.5K record - if it ever pops up anywhere... Die Böslinge disbanded right after this initial release in 1981, but before working on the songs that appeared on the single they recorded songs on a so called "demo." Bachelor Records got their hands on this cassette and sent it to Eric Brady to master the tracks - so here they are, the punk 'Demo 1980,' rough but straight to your face, direct, simple and aggressive songs (mostly) sung in Viennese dialect.

'Spirit' is the 14th studio album by Depeche Mode. Much of the inspiration behind 'Spirit' arose from their distaste for the political climate in both the United States and the United Kingdom. One of the major differences about the delivery on 'Spirit' compared to past albums is how direct and straightforward some of the lyrics are. Depeche Mode does not only tackle political subject matter on 'Spirit.' The track 'Poison Heart' is written like a breakup song, but Gahan explained that it is not a breakup song and is about the inability to relate to other people.

LAST LIGHT - A BRIDGE OVER THE LAGOON
'Last Light' is the glorious confluencethe UK-based and Aotearoa, NZ born Dean Brown (Little Skull, Nova Scotia) and Ben Spiers (Glory Fckn Sun, Seen Through, Tea Dust), names that might be familiar to anyone who has followed the post-Corpus Hermeticum school of hiss and klang as it's spread out across the world to coalesce in little pools here and there. Their album 'A Bridge Over The Lagoon' is another stop on a trajectory set flowing out of small town Aotearoa, hastened by the fire lit by Le Jazz Non. 'Last Light' shines differently from its members' respective pasts. It is not the earth rending blaze of Glory Fckn Sun, nor the candlelight glow of Little Skull. There are hints of the burnt out star cinders of Total or the rumbling flow of Flies Inside The Sun, but with much more of a sense of optimism than those comparisons would imply.

"For over ten years this solitary voice from Manchester has created a unique sound drawn from a melange of Arabic and European instrumental music. From the very beginning the music has been based on drums and other percussion instruments. Recent advances have been attained through greater creative use of multi-track studios, but the core sound remains unchanged.
"In the Middle East things are rapidly changing during the few last weeks, Muslimgauze gave his reaction to the recently signed peace treaty between the PLO and Israel: "To be negative is easy, a positive thought is helpful, but until Jerusalem is capital of a total Palestinian State and all Zionist settlers are off the Palestinian map, any peace plan will fail. Yasser Arafat is working to improve his peoples lives, as are Hamas. Yasser Arafat can talk, while Hamas undertake direct action to take back from Zionists Palestinian land. America's role in supporting the vile regime of Israel will never be forgotten." Sounds like written yesterday but it's decades old. Staalplaat now re-releases 'Hamas Arc.' This is a very special LP, as it contains remixed material from 'Shekel Of Israeli Occupation,' which did never appear before. Also on 'Hamas Arc' there are two remixes from tracks from 'Vote Hezbollah.' New cover design made by HCILE, screenprint on 300 gms paper. Originally released on CD by Staalplaat in 1993.

This is it! The great lost whatsit of soul music. In 1967 Irma Thomas, the Queen Of New Orleans Soul, showed up to record at Muscle Shoals studio, the best studio working at the time. Irma was backed by their classic house band and churned out an incredible session that's as beautiful as deep soul comes. Unfortunately, when a contract was slid across the table by Checker Records, the ever astute Irma saw it was unfair in every way so she refused to sign. As a result the session went unreleased until the 1980s when a limited British and Japanese version was put out with a poorly sequenced track listing. Now, these sessions can be heard at last! This is a very limited edition with excellent sound and an old school "tip on" cover. If you like soul music, this is an absolute must.

On July 1988 the most obscure record of Eskorbuto's discography was released. Vomited from the entrails with the boredom of a life blackened by the soot pouring from the nozzles of the factories of the beaten left bank of the Nervion river. Time had already hardened them and their attitude was plain, above all they were "anti-everything." A timeless record and paradoxically sounds fresh again in this genuine and until now missed vinyl. It is a great opportunity to taste again the subtle shades of exasperation that hang around the grooves of the bitterest record of the band. Eskorbuto inoculates in the listener harder than ever the rage and the nihilist-agent of which they were transmitters.

Repress. In his 1967 DownBeat review of the initial release, Amiri Baraka wrote: "The music is beautiful on this album... These two players... are making some of the deepest music anywhere. It wants nothing." Peter Margasak included the album in his list of "Favorite Albums of 2020," and wrote: "Essential coupling of two insanely rare duo albums from a 1966 concert at Yale University: Pullen at his most ferocious and probing, Graves making a huge step in establishing his radical approach to polymetric movement." In a review for Point of Departure, John Sharpe commented: "The five pieces represent a true dialogue... Although intensity levels vary, the exchanges remain resolutely non-melodic and non-metric throughout... Even after all this time the music still challenges preconceptions. It remains a classic of the genre and deserves to be widely heard." Thurston Moore included 'Nommo' in his "Top Ten From The Free Jazz Underground" list, first published in 1995 in the second issue of the defunct Grand Royal magazine, calling the interplay between the musicians "remarkable."

QLOAQA LETAL - NUNCA, SIEMPRE
Recorded in 1983 in the city of Valladolid, Qloaqa Letal's mythical status made them one of the weirdest bands to come out of the second wave of Spanish punk. They never released anything on vinyl, but they appear on a bunch of foreign compilation tapes under a pseudonym (Ddeadly Sewer) which made the rumors about them grew wilder and wilder. We can only imagine how big they would have been had they released a vinyl record, but giving that they came from a rather un-punk city, only a tape it was. Said tape has ever since been circulated amongst punks all over in the form of dubbed tapes (and a terribly put together CD from 2001). You'll have to look really hard to find a Spanish punk which doesn't know them, yet they were mainly (and may we say criminally) unknown abroad. Their cult status was based around their frontman Rouky, a survivor of London 1977 which brought back the tricks learned in the big Smoke to Valladolid. Qloaqa Letal looked like a bunch of misfits with leather, face paint and clothes ripped to shreds being their aesthetic. Their sound was equally odd with many people claiming they used a drum machine to record their 'Nunca, Siempre' demo cassette. Their guitar sound was the crudest Spain had witnessed by 1983 and while clearly hardcore infuenced their sound was the perfect hybrid between both punk and hardcore. Their lyrics were something else. Nasty depraved anthems full of hate and strangely enough with a massive poetic edge. They even managed to turn an Espronceda poem into a killer punk song on 'Desesperacion.' Songs like 'Valladolid, Qloaqa Letal,' 'La Vida Me Escupe' or 'Ya Te Vale Policia' will forever be in the pantheon of Spanish punk anthems next to any Cicatriz or Eskorbuto songs. Finally re-released by Metadona Records the 'Nunca Siempre' reissue comes housed in a 325gsm reverse board sleeve including a 30x30 lyric insert with pictures of the band. If you had to only buy one reissue record this year (or this decade really) it will be this one.

RIP is a mythical punk band from Arrasate (Basque Country). It was about 1984 when the label BCT released the tape 'Spanish HC' presenting some Iberian bands from that era. Included was a brutal live set from RIP recorded on May 26, 1984 in the coastal village of Lekeitio. Recovered and remastered by Jack Control in Texas, this live LP includes a 12-page b&w A4 fanzine/booklet.

1996 to 1999 was a weird time for Electric Orange. It was the time of trip hop, electro, drum'n'bass and big beat, styles they already introduced on 'Cyberdelic' and before. Most of the music was made electronically with analogue synthesizers, samplers, Atari ST and the mixing was always live and analogue. At this time digital recording was still very expensive and they didn't own any analogue multitrack recorder anymore, so it was a natural move for them to produce like this. Many tracks are previous unreleased and some of this music was already released on some CDRs about 20 years ago in very limited editions. These tracks always felt like just raw material, so they had the idea to compile an album of the best parts. All you can hear was done in 1996 to 1999, no remixing or re-recording took place. All they did, was to edit most of the tracks and combine all these bits a continuous mix - like a weird audio movie that could have been the lost album from that era.

First official reissue for this roots reggae masterpiece, recorded in 1977. The Bushrangers, also known as Clem Bushay All Stars, is the house band of producer Clem Bushay. They recorded the 'Stuntman' album with musicians like Barry McVicker, Bunny McKenzie, Candy McKenzie, Carl Lewis, Dennis Bovell, Desmond Charles, Hughie, Janet Kay, Jimmy Haynes, Jimmy Mack, Jimmy Stratdan, Joseph Charles, Junior Bailey, Junior English, Michael Charles, Stanley, Suzy Browne, Moon Rocks and Zabandis. The album was also produced by Bushay.

This energetic punk band originated from Hitchin in Hertfordshire in 1978 and kept their good-natured Sex Pistols-inspired vision active well into the mid-1980's.
