BAND X - THE BEST OF BAND X
Last copies! RSD 2024 release, only few available, so be fast! With its tongue in cheek title, 'The Best Of Band X' (there had been no previous Band X releases) snuck into the record racks in 1976, the first the world was to hear from musician/producer/writer/arranger (and later all-American hero) Craig Peyton. Fitting in somewhere between contemporaries like Weather Report, Headhunters and Stone Alliance, Craig Peyton definitely ploughed his own musical furrow even in an exceptionally fertile era. Originally a jazz drummer and vibraphonist, Craig was interested in utilizing the potential of some of the new synthesizers that were coming onto the market in that era, (beating even Stevie Wonder to the use of the Fairlight keyboard). Band X consisted of Alan Grzyb, Victor Preston and Joey Bellomo alongside their auteur, Craig Peyton. Despite being, broadly speaking, `jazz', Craig's music had a synthetic feel and, like many musical conceptions of the future, sounds decidedly retro-cool today. Drummer Bellomo contributed synthesizer work, and horn-player Grzyb also contributed keyboards. Bass-man Preston also played trombone, and alongside Grzyb's bassoon and clarinet and the assorted electronics, it was not your standard jazz ensemble. Quirky song titles (some of which wouldn't sound out of place on a prog-rock album from the same time) confirm the image we have of a musical maverick.

BUNYAN, VASHTI - JUST ANOTHER DIAMOND DAY
Vashti Bunyan's legendary debut album from 1970 finally gets a UK vinyl repressing. Produced by Joe Boyd for Witchseason Productions and originally released on Philips in 1970, the album features contributions from Fairport Convention's Simon Nicol and Dave Swarbrick and The Incredible String Band's Robin Williamson. The songs mostly concern the events that took place when Vashti and her lover travelled to the Hebrides in a horse and cart to join up with Donovan's artistic community but by the time they got there that community had all left. This story has been brilliantly told in Kieran Evans' rarely seen 2008 film 'Vashti Bunyan: From Here To Before.' Comes on white vinyl.

Limited to 100 copies on blue/red mixed vinyl. Only few available, so be fast! This album is a little different than their first four albums. It's no holds barred electric! The songs blend into each other to create one nuclear based relativity, with a conceptual narrative of our historical atomic madness in variable time signatures, rests and pieces. On top of that, their whole rhythm section is a Detroit gang. Let's rock! Einsteinium is a highly unstable element that was discovered in the debris after the first hydrogen bomb explosion. Using it in the title eventually compelled Curvey from Custard Flux to research and write about characters and events relating to atomic bombs, a thoroughly depressing subject. The infamous key scientist involved in developing the first atom bomb, had deep spiritual interests and in some interviews had made references to the Bhagavad Gita, which he was able to use for more positive, psychedelic inspiration.

DR. STRANGELY STRANGE - RADIO SESSIONS
Irish psychedelic folkies Dr. Strangely Strange were active from 1968-1971. Their two Joe Boyd-produced albums from that era, 'Kip Of The Serenes' (Island) and 'Heavy Petting' (Vertigo), are both highly sought after by collectors. In their heyday, the band recorded only two BBC radio sessions, a 'Top Gear' slot and an 'In Concert,' both with John Peel. Frustratingly, the BBC's tapes were wiped, but after extensive research with European collectors, TLAK has been able to locate off-air recordings of both sessions, which have been painstakingly restored. Added to these are brief radio sessions for Dutch and Danish radio sourced from the original recordings, as well as a Dublin rehearsal take of 'Sign On My Mind' featuring Gary Moore, a friend of the band and guest on 'Heavy Petting.' Limited gatefold vinyl pressing with 4-page illustrated booklet featuring previously unpublished photos compiled by Strangelies biographer Adrian Whittaker.

The first release from the new ITT archive reissue series is 2018's 'Autodidact.' Originally released on a 10" lathe cut by Ack Ack Ack Records in Feb 2018. Heres a bit about the record in Oli's own words: "I recorded the bulk of this record over a weekend in January 2018, in the midst of a very minor breakdown that was to last for pretty much the entire year. I was living in a big house all on my own, smoking too much and not really seeing any people. Happy days indeed. It was tracked in the back room of 97 Hambledon Road, Middlesbrough using two questionable microphones, a broken HH 100 amp, my friend's drums and a Tascam DP08 (that wasn't to see the year out, RIP 2009-2018) When I was done, Robbie came round and recorded a ton of violin drones through my amp and I remember feeling like I'd gone into a trance a few times, then Ben recorded his parts at home and sent them over. Mixed and mastered the same night - I released it myself a month later as a lathe cut 10" and then promptly moved on. I listened to the album for the first time in years to write this sleeve note and I think it is possibly the closest I've ever got to capturing the sound I hear in my head - I love how grubby and cavernous it sounds, claustrophobic and swirling - the track 'Autodidact' I have recorded 4 more times since this version and I've never got that sound back. The MONKS OF MALASPINA debut release is a phantastical psychedelic mystery musical filled with dark woods wonder and honey comb clouds over sparkling fjords from deep within the mountains of Canada's British Columbia. Most of the music on this record is gloriously strange with a capella outbursts both finely tuned and guttural. Decomposing abstract rock anthems stretch out alongside primitive beat-boxing. There are more familiar sounding songs as well giving the whole album an aura of storytelling magic, like it is all based on some fabulous old book.

That preamble leads to this album by Mutante, the pairing of Alec Wood and Jonathan Parkes, who you may know from their equally as excellent Korb project. Previously out in 2018 on CD and digital on Dreamlord Recordings, this wonderful slice of nostalgic electronica is receiving a well deserved vinyl outing courtesy of those fine dudes at Up In Her Room Records. Last copy! Released by the Kapp label in 1970 and produced by the Oscar-winning Leonard Rosenman, 'Parallelograms' was the first and only album by American psychedelic folk singer Linda Perhacs until the release of 'The Soul Of All Natural Things' in 2014. Discouraged by the lack of commercial attention and the label's reluctance to promote the album, Perhacs returned to her career as a dental hygienist. In the 30 or so years that followed, this record gradually developed a cult following. Combining fragile and ethereal melodic acid folk with perfectly rendered electronic effects, 'Parallelograms' consists of what Perhacs herself described as "visual music." The spotlight is placed clearly on Linda's guitar and voice, where echoes of Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and even Grace Slick (lead singer of Jefferson Airplane) can be traced. As was common in his work, Rosenman's production ends up shaping a soundscape located somewhere between jazz, classical music and the avant-garde. All Music reviewer Richie Unterberger gave it 4« out of 5 stars, stating that "Perhacs' cult favorite 'Parallelograms' instantly evokes the spare and isolated feel of the songs and the production on Joni Mitchell's first albums. Perhacs is adept at dropping unusual effects and arrangements into the mix, that on occasion have a mildly disquieting and psychedelic vibe. Not all of the record is unusual, though; much of it's just attractively wistful, moody singer/songwriter folk, sometimes with an engaging folk-jazz backup, sometimes just with a guitar, sometimes enlivened by creative smudges of organ and electric guitar."

DR. STRANGELY STRANGE - RADIO SESSIONS
Irish psychedelic folkies Dr. Strangely Strange were active from 1968-1971. Their two Joe Boyd-produced albums from that era, 'Kip Of The Serenes' (Island) and 'Heavy Petting' (Vertigo), are both highly sought after by collectors. In their heyday, the band recorded only two BBC radio sessions, a 'Top Gear' slot and an 'In Concert,' both with John Peel. Frustratingly, the BBC's tapes were wiped, but after extensive research with European collectors, TLAK has been able to locate off-air recordings of both sessions, which have been painstakingly restored. Added to these are brief radio sessions for Dutch and Danish radio sourced from the original recordings, as well as a Dublin rehearsal take of 'Sign On My Mind' featuring Gary Moore, a friend of the band and guest on 'Heavy Petting.' The accompanying 24-page illustrated booklet featuring previously unpublished photos has been compiled by Strangelies biographer Adrian Whittaker.

Audio and video collection of UK progressive eccentrics Patto at the height of their powers on stage in the form of a previously unreleased recording of the band rocking and looning at the Torrington in London at the start of 1973, plus their surviving TV appearances. The Patto's virtuosity and eclecticism are in full swing as they perform an inspired set which includes most of their (then current) third album, 'Roll 'Em Smoke 'Em', to an enthusiastic but intimate crowd. Includes a never released Halsall composition 'I'm Baroque' about their foreshortened tour of Australia supporting Joe Cocker. The previously unreleased footage includes the 'Pop Deux' broadcast from French TV and the full session for German TV's 'Beat Club' with blistering performances of 'San Antone' and 'The Man' - a song featured in the film 'Observe And Report'. For a band whose legacy only continues to grow, historical recordings such as these are valuable treasures that surpasses any sonic limitations.

Heavily influenced by the early releases of The Monsters (from Switzerland) this is a gnarly album of snotty, hard hitting garage punk that leaves the revival bands far, far behind. Titch's (ex-The Klingonz) vocals come across somewhere between Lemmy and Beatman, the guitars produce a wall of sound that's pretty much relentless and the drummer could have easily have absconded from Ministry or The Revolting Cocks... Artwork by up and coming graphic artist K-Rat (Gilles Dechamps) and mastered for vinyl by Doyley at Diablo studios. A fantastic slice of garage/trash history not to be missed.

Very limited EU version of The Mudd Club's debut album, 300 copies only with new artwork (an homage to The Cramps' 'Blues Fix' EP) and coloured vinyl. The Mudd Club are a garage-punk band consisting of guitarist Sadie Capps, drummer Julian West and bassist Huw Hickman. Sadie and Julian grew up in landlocked Lawrence, Kansas. They now spend most their time between Bristol in the UK and Wales. They write most of their own material drawing on the best of '50s, '60s and '70s trash and punk although when they do cover a track, it's guaranteed to be a killer as in the case on this album where they cover the 1962 released 'Wombat Twist' originally by Glenn & Christy. These kids are top notch and way ahead of what their tender years may imply... A true delinquent teen band (alright, early 20's).

Re-reissue of Cranes über rare (cassette only) debut album 'Fuse' on Dadaphonic. The 'Fuse' album was remastered at Abbey Road in 2023 an includes an extra unheard track from the period called 'New Liberty.' Artwork is by Chris Bigg of V23. The second in a series of archive releases by Cranes, 'Fuse' was recorded in Portsmouth, their home town by siblings Alison and Jim Shaw. It originally appeared as a cassette album in 1986 on the Bite Back! label. With an initial run of only 200 copies, over the years this album, with its distinctive purple cover has been highly sought after amongst fans. 'Fuse' showcases a sparser, darker and more industrial, post punk sound. From the hypnotic allure and rhythmic intensity of the title track to the ferocious and challenging beats of 'Wrench,' the songs are just as mesmerising as Cranes' later, critically acclaimed releases.

Jim Shepherd is the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of The Jasmine Minks, one of the first bands to have records released on Alan McGee's Creation Records, the iconic label that shot Oasis and Primal Scream into superstardom. The Jasmine Minks were also the only former Creation Records band that McGee took with him after his label folded, for his next label, Poptones, home of The Hives. After several albums and singles with The Jasmine Minks, Jim Shepherd now has his first solo album, backed by an indie supergroup of Dave Morgan (The Loft, The Weather Prophets, Subway Sect) on drums and production, Frank Sweeney (The June Brides) on strings and keyboards and Arash Torabi (The June Brides, The Distractions, Beat Hotel) on bass, with guest vocals by Tommy Reid (The Jasmine Minks), Beth Arzy (The Luxembourg Signal, Jetstream Pony), Aberdeen's Vapour Trails and Marianne Dissard. The album's 12 songs prove that Shepherd's songwriting is still on fire, with a fantastic production by Dave Morgan, strings, and stunning Beach Boys/Byrds-style harmony vocals. Many moods and styles are captured: it's a real journey... maan! Dig it!

Named after Elfriede Jelinek's seminal novel, this album contains 14 slabs of tortured, avant pop at its best. It includes a lauded cover of the Queen/David Bowie single 'Under Pressure' featuring Swans leader Michael Gira. The album was recorded by a legendary line up consisting of Caralee McElroy, Ches Smith and Jamie Stewart and features Angela Seo's first Xiu Xiu credit for lyrics and sound effects. It was mixed and co-produced by the band's long time friend and collaborator Greg Saunier of Deerhoof. This edition is released on 180g vinyl, limited to 1000 copies and features new revisited artwork and liner notes by Jamie Stewart.
