Repress of 300 copies on white vinyl, without inlay. Debut album of this young psychedelic post punk band from Mantova, Italy. The "beat", the hypnotic and obsessive force that recalls primitive dances, is the concept of 'Make It Better'. The album takes place in an imaginary "beat club", which is at the same time a place of liberation, fun and aggregation. The use of the "beat" has characterized humans since the dawn and has spanned the centuries, changing shape but not substance. In 'Make It Better' the beat is told as an impersonal spirit that advances, cold and impassive like the vocal lines, and guides the band towards a sort of artistic emancipation. The beat is also a way to stay united and purifying oneself from the "responsibilities" of real life and the transition from youth to adulthood, in short from the fear of not "being good enough". Finding refuge in music, with the legitimate dream of even making it a job, or simply going out to drink and dance with friends ("I wanna get drunk, just keep dancing with my friends", from the title track). A/lpaca's music picks up the signals from sixties London, in particular of bands such as Pink Floyd and Soft Machine (indirectly honored in the song I Am Kevin Ayers), mixes them with the Teutonic drive of Can, take some coolness from Joy Division and finally updates everything with the modern example of Thee Oh Sees and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The result sounds hieratic and adrenaline, rigorous and wild, absolutely irresistible.

First official release of this one-of-a-kind gem by Argentinean progmeisters Alas, in a strictly limited edition of 300 copies, with a newly designed (and band-approved) back cover. 'Pinta Tu Aldea,' recorded in 1977, and formerly released by EMI in 1983, belongs to the cohort of outstanding artworks that sound as fresh and relevant today, as when they were originally recorded. Here, Alas digress from their ELP-esque affinities which permeate their debut album, in quest for a unique sound that would blend for the first time the avant tango idiom of Piazzolla with the multilayered prog arrangements of Gustavo Moretto, with a helping hand from Carlos Riganti and Pedro Aznar. 'Pinta Tu Aldea' laid the very foundational building block of an eclectic sub-genre, namely, avant-tango/prog jazz and folk fusion. This has nothing to do with tango for purist tango lovers, obviously, but with a freeform adaptation of tango instrumentation and composition paths to the exigencies of to the exigencies of progrock in conversation with jazz-fusion, folk and electronics, culminating in an expressionist landscape of unparalleled virtuosity, a bedazzling puzzle of motifs that might be rearranged ad infinitum in a maze of ever-shifting porous boundaries. This is hardly tango you can dance to, but surely tango to headbang to, inasmuch as cabaret metal might hardly qualify for cabaret enthusiasts. This is tango's unabashed unfettering from its formalist constraints and its squirmish takeover in a hybrid cosmopolitan appropriation.

The 10 'Hello Ghost' songs are all about freedom. Will Z. decided to record the album away from his familiar environment: "I wanted to get out of my habits and go on an adventure because that's what 'Hello Ghost' was about." In February 2018, Pierre Vancraenenbroeck and Will went to Berlin, to Lightning Recorders, a studio where time stopped in the '60s. "We recorded all the basic tracks on museum pieces, from drums to amp, console to tape recorder. This sound and our discovery of the town build our music and created a very special atmosphere, out of time." said Will Z. Back in Liège, Will Z. invited other musicians to Studio 5 to appear on his album: Éric Trillet, keyboardist who played on the original songs in the '90s, Fake Empire (a band composed of three sisters and a friend) and a string section led by violinist Anne-Claude Dejasse. The band teamed with filmmaker Caroline Poisson for videos of 'Hello Ghost'.

The follow up to Centre El Muusa's highly acclaimed debut album from 2020. Again this album is made by these 4 musicians, including one of the most creative and prolific multi-instrumentalists in Europe: Misha Panfilov. He is famous for his (mostly) instrumental psychedelic funk singles and electronic albums by Misha Panfilov Sound Combo (Funk Night Records, USA), as well as the jazzy krautrock by Estrada Orchestra (LP 'Playground' was released 2021 on Sulatron). Volodja Brodsky is a co-founder of the band (and member of Estrada Orchestra) and a master on the Wurlitzer electric piano and space synthesizers. Plus Monika Erdman on electric bass and Aleksei Semenihhin on drums. Centre El Muusa is an Estonian psychedelic rock quartet founded in 2018 (previously named as Centre Electronique Muusa). The project, which started as an avant-garde electronic duo of Panfilov and Brodsky in 2015, developed into a rock band, when it was joined by Erdman and Semenihhin. Gradually, the band transformed their sound from uncompromising garage krautrock to more spacious psychedelia with noticeable elements of ambient and country-rock, while maintaining their signature lo-fi approach to recording and not avoiding risks. Three years on from the band's acclaimed 'Grateful End' album, and following up 2023's reissue of their live release 'Psychedelic Scum Freaks,' Taipei's underground psych monsters Dope Purple return with their new album proper, 'This Is The Harsh Trip For New Psyche.' The album is co-released again by Riot Season and WV Sorcerer Productions. It's a mixture of harsh noise and psych rock, the noise element being well recorded and presented so we can hear many details, and blends perfectly with the other instruments in all frequencies. The whole album moves between a spectral sadness and insanity, each track takes a rather different direction, recognising the influence of classic Japanese bands such as High Rise, Mainliner and Les Rallizes Dénudés. The album is a collaboration with Berserk, a young underground pioneer from the Taipei scene, and has been performing chaotic frequency manipulation and carefully textured post-apocalyptic soundscapes since 2015. The cover features hand-drawn artwork by Japanese artist Ten Kashiwagi, and the mixing/mastering was taken care of once again by Darklaw from Japan, perfectly capturing the aesthetic and technical aspects of the recording.

And now finally, Hibushibire mark 2 is born properly. "Hibushibire has returned after a change of members. A psychedelic, progressive work, suitable for a new beginning." Entering the studio with Acid Mothers Temple/Mainliner guru Makoto Kawabata in the producer chair (and also as a guest musician) once again, the band recorded album number three, 'Magical Metamorphosis Third Eye.' Makoto also adds some of his own trademark guitar howls through out the album, perfectly complimenting Changchang's own growing prowess. Here the band have taken their trademark psych-rock blasts and blended them perfectly with some more trippy, dare I say sweet progressive psychedelic sounds. "The idea of this album is based on the theme of "occultism and mysticism." But it's not a serious thing, it's about the things we like (UFOs, pyramids, psychic phenomena, shamanism etc) and we all had fun while making it. In terms of what makes it different from the previous Hibushibire albums, it's where Aoi Hama's vocals are present. I had wanted to use a female vocalist for a long time, so it was a good feeling!" Like the band's first two albums, 'Magical Metamorphosis Third Eye' is very much an album of two halves. Side one again is full of killer shorter tracks, while side two is reserved for a blinding majestic 20 minute epic 'Ayahuasca Witch Abduction.' Perhaps the biggest musical surprise here though is probably track two, the beautifully mellow tripped out 'We Won't Go Back To The Past,' which sounds like it's been beamed straight out of the late '60s/early '70s.
The band also tip a nod to the Beatles psychedelic classic 'Tomorrow Never Ever Knows,' but with their own twist of course. It's clear with the line up changes, Changchang has decided to expand the band's musical pathway, and he's achieved stunning results.

IHRE KINDER - EMPTY HANDS
Ihre Kinder, formed in 1968, and were the pioneers among the politically and socially engaged groups in Germany.
Their second album 'Leere Hände' was originally released on the legendary KUCKUCK label in 1970. The English version, called 'Empty Hands', has never been available on vinyl. There was a small number of white label copies pressed by Deutsche Grammophon in 1970/'71 to solicit releases by Polygram companies around the world, but as there was no interest, the label dropped the idea. So, now it is the first time ever, that the English version of 'Leere Hände' is being pressed on vinyl, with the original Kuckuck labels and tracklist, and the cover as intended for the English version. A great German progressive psychedelic effort, which sounds different -but equally great- in English, that should be part of every serious 70s progressive rock collection. Limited deluxe edition on 180-gram vinyl with a printed innersleeve.

The first release from the new ITT archive reissue series is 2018's 'Autodidact.' Originally released on a 10" lathe cut by Ack Ack Ack Records in Feb 2018. Heres a bit about the record in Oli's own words: "I recorded the bulk of this record over a weekend in January 2018, in the midst of a very minor breakdown that was to last for pretty much the entire year. I was living in a big house all on my own, smoking too much and not really seeing any people. Happy days indeed. It was tracked in the back room of 97 Hambledon Road, Middlesbrough using two questionable microphones, a broken HH 100 amp, my friend's drums and a Tascam DP08 (that wasn't to see the year out, RIP 2009-2018) When I was done, Robbie came round and recorded a ton of violin drones through my amp and I remember feeling like I'd gone into a trance a few times, then Ben recorded his parts at home and sent them over. Mixed and mastered the same night - I released it myself a month later as a lathe cut 10" and then promptly moved on. I listened to the album for the first time in years to write this sleeve note and I think it is possibly the closest I've ever got to capturing the sound I hear in my head - I love how grubby and cavernous it sounds, claustrophobic and swirling - the track 'Autodidact' I have recorded 4 more times since this version and I've never got that sound back. MARKS & LEBZELTER - ROCK AND OTHER FOUR LETTER WORDS
This New York based duo released their one and only LP in 1968 on Columbia Masterworks, just months after Zappa released 'Lumpy Gravy' in California. Although the 2 projects have some superficial similarity in structure, it would seem that this later LP must have been made (at least largely), without any knowledge of the Zappa masterpiece. Another reference point might be The United States Of America who also released their LP in 1968. Originally released simultaneously with Terry Riley's 'In C' and Walter Carlos' 'Switched On Bach', this new edition of Marks and Lebzelters complex 50 minute heady mix of spoken word, electronics and experimental psychedelia is taken from the master tapes and consists of a suite of 13 tracks. Where 'Lumpy Gravy' uses orchestral settings, here we have a combination of theatrical text and sung vocals by the Gregg Smith Singers, and on one track a full baptist gospel choir praising the virtues of baked beans. The core of this album though, stems from interviews conducted by J Marks for his book, also called 'Rock And Other Four Letter Words' (essentially a book of photos by Linda Eastman, soon to be McCartney, with quotes from many of the leading US and UK rock bands of the time). Included on this LP are numerous cut up and processed excerpts of these interviews with many young rock stars including Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Brian Wilson, Grace Slick etc. Add to this concoction, dense arrangements of tape loops, psychedelic rock, electronics and a huge guest list of contributors including jazz players Alan Silva, Andrew Cyrille, Roswell Rudd and Burton Greene and the scope of this project begins to be seen. Its hard to believe this is their first time in a studio, such is their confident musicality and bold handling of these varied talents. No doubt much of this is due to the helping hand of the in house engineers and John McClure who produced this, along with 100s of other recordings at CBS, including the Harry Partch records. After this album Shipen Lebzelter (1942-1986) went on to found The Trees (Community), who released a legendary Christian folk album in 1975. Marks (1930-2001) subsequently changed his name in the early 70s to Jamake Highwater, which is how he is best remembered; writing books, making documentaries and setting up his own foundation for Indian art and culture. This long overdue reissue comes in a standard sleeve with a 4 page insert that includes all the original artwork and more. Limited to 500 copies.

We've seen this happen on a regular basis with differing results. One of the most pleasing of these revisits sees contemporary bands look back to the early pioneers of electronic music, especially the Berlin scene of the seventies, and thus we see the likes of Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and Klaus Schulze becoming huge influences on modern music (it is fair to say, however, that these have long been major influences but now that influence is worn like a statement of intent). Add to this the rise in popularity of film soundtracks and a whole new generation becoming familiar with the likes of Fabio Frizzi, John Carpenter, Goblin etc etc and you have a heady brew of contemporary analogue music that treats these influences with the respect they deserve but add their own distinctive twist on affairs. That preamble leads to this album by Mutante, the pairing of Alec Wood and Jonathan Parkes, who you may know from their equally as excellent Korb project. Previously out in 2018 on CD and digital on Dreamlord Recordings, this wonderful slice of nostalgic electronica is receiving a well deserved vinyl outing courtesy of those fine dudes at Up In Her Room Records. Now, as a rule I do try, not always successfully, not to use the word 'cinematic' but in this case I'm just gonna have to... In 2012 Davi Rodriguez de Lima left Brazil to live in Germany. Former drummer from relatively well known Brazilian indie band Ecos Falsos and from experimental punk band Orange Disaster has left behind friends, family and a name in the independent Brazilian scene to join his then girlfriend - now wife and mother of his two kids. Going solo could not be more literal: Davi wrote, composed, played, recorded, mixed and mastered the album by himself. 'Fantasma's eight songs are trippy in a more psychedelic sense: lots of delays, weird timbres, soundscapes and blues. The album was born as part of Davi's Master thesis in Sound Design, and is therefore very experimental in its production concept. The drums, for instance, are not really drums: they are actually a self produced sample-based drumkit that uses foley techniques noises and recordings. Limited to 300 copies.

Craig Smith was an extraordinarily gifted songwriter and musician who seemed poised for a successful career in the 1960s music business, until his life was derailed by drugs and schizophrenia. He died homeless on the streets of Hollywood in 2012. In the 20th year of Sula Bassana's career a new album is showing up! It contains songs composed and recorded from 2013 to 2018, but finished at a few evenings within the last years.
After some more electronic orientated albums, this one here is more in the style of the rock orientated albums like 'Dreamer,' 'The Night,' 'Dark Days' or 'Live At Roadburn 2014.' The first two tracks include some vocals, which is rare on Sula albums, and show the more rockier side of this album. The title track is something different, very melodic, even slightly jazzy, and features Mellotron and some pure fuzz. 'Wurmloch' is a full space flight based on a synthesizer arpeggio with the rest recorded around later. And the album ends with the oldest of these tracks: 'Mellotraum.' This was the first track Sula recorded with his freshly arrived Mellotron (4000d) on it's first day, back in 2013. Limited to 500 copies on 180gr black wax.

True acid wizards of the 1980s/1990s psychedelic underground TreaTmenT performed at Stonehenge Free Festival and at squats and clubs all over London including the now legendary Alice In Wonderland, The Crypt and Club Dog where they assaulted the minds of those present with their unique and somewhat terrifying blend of '60s psychedelia and '70s space rock, all liberally spiked with a questioning punk attitude. Performing with Dr & The Medics, Ozric Tentacles, The Magic Mushroom Band, Naz Nomad and The Nightmares and other luminaries of the neo-psychedelic space rock revival, TreaTmenT were an integral part of the scene and possibly the most psychedelic band of them all. Hardcore to the max, the band insisted on performing in a psychedelicised state, looking like a cross between Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come and early Pink Floyd and often with a lightshow. Firmly fixated on taking their audience on the trip of a lifetime TreaTment consisted of Adam Blake (Jacket Xerxophon) on guitar and vocals, Gordon Leach (Gordon Zola) on further guitar and vocals, Clive Leach (Evil C. Live, Ron Number, Curtis Vile) on bass/trombone, Paul Ross (The Big Beat, Mr Raagh) on drums/percussion and Paul McWhinnie (Mutant) on keyboards, noises and vocals. They were without doubt a live phenomenon, and although they released a couple of singles, cassettes, a live album and a studio album - 'Cypher Caput' - on the Delerium label (home to Porcupine Tree), they never really managed to commit their mind-blowing magic to vinyl. Now, nearly 20 years after it was recorded TreaTment are releasing a limited-edition double vinyl LP of their second studio album 'How Much Is Enough?' in memory of guitarist Gordon Leach who sadly passed away in 2021. The album was intended to be released on Delerium in 2000 but never was and whilst one track 'Keep Ahead' appeared on the Cherry Red box set 'Last Daze Of The Underground - Delerium Records Anthology' in 2011 nothing else has seen the light of day until now. Fans of the band will note cornerstones of their live set such as the wondrously trippy 'What The Hell To Do,' the humorous swipe at the music press 'Hate The Band,' the melodic keyboard swirling 'Restless,' the frenetic guitar cross fire of 'No Understanding' and the nihilistic nightmare 'Blot Out.' Housed in a gatefold sleeve packed with photos and memorabilia as well as for the first time the full history of the band and limited to only 300 on 180 gram vinyl 'How Much Is Enough?' will no doubt be seen in the future as one of the landmark releases of the '80s/90s neo-psychedelic revival. 'Väistyy Mielen Yö,' the third album of the Finnish prog band Viima was slowly worked on for 12 years, sometimes with a closer pace and sometimes with a break of several years. Some changes in the line-up took place during these years. Keyboardist Kimmo Lähteenmäki left the band in 2011, but his playing can be heard on a couple of tracks on the album. His successor, Eric Marquis, was present at Viima's concerts. Next, Risto Pahlama, who is present on this album, took over the keyboards and the duties of the lead vocalist after Hannu Hiltula moved more in the background. As before, Hannu Hiltula (flute, keyboards, backing vocals), Mikko Uusi-Oukari (guitars, Mellotron) and Mikko Väärälä (drums, vocals, keyboards) are responsible for the compositions on this '70s spirit album. Aapo Honkanen plays bass. The lyrics were written by Petri Hyytiä and Mikko Väärälä.

Blind Owl Wilson was a truly great guitarist and vocalist whose deep well of psychedelic blues songs were buried amongst the catalog of major label rockin' blues band Canned Heat. Blind Owl served as Canned Heat's guitarist and would chip in a song here and there as a front man. A couple of those songs became huge hits in the '60s - 'Going Up The Country' and 'On The Road Again'. Blind Owl's songs for Canned Heat stood in stark contrast to the bands blustery blues rock - his was a gentle and nuanced voice and the themes of his song were all about personal heartbreak, grasping for cosmic understanding, and ecological justice. Last copies! Pussy Cat (born Evelyn Courtois) was born in Paris on June 14th, 1948. At 17 years old she was already making her guitar purr in her all girl band, Les Petites Souris. Not long after, Tom Jones gave her the name Pussy Cat. Meow! Pussy Cat soon became the leading rhythm singer in France following her take over of the bands of the British Invasion, singing in such iconic acts as The Hollies, Small Faces, Herman's Hermits, Zombies... as well as Dee Dee Warwick and Nancy Wilson. During the mid '60s there was a spread of beat groups in Britain who found inspiration in the Mod style and its music - whether that being American soul, Tamla or R'n'B, or the home grown sounds of the Who and the Small Faces. Sourced from acetates and private pressings, 'Raw Mod' unearths over a dozen bands who never got as far as a recording contract but nonetheless entered a studio to record their mod blended with R'n'B and blue eyed soul with some cool beaters and gritty ravers.
