Maurizio 'Angus' Bidoli's brilliant 'Diary Of Dreams' was issued in 1998 as a very limited CD only releasegiven to friends and colleagues. It has never been reissued, and therefore this is its first ever appearance on vinyl and official CD. Angus is a native of Rome, and has played guitar with many bands, most notably the Italian metal outfit Fingernails. However, his love for the trippier, Hendrix-inspired psychjamming has manifested itself in several solo projects, and this is a great example of that. Angus plays all the instruments on this outing, and it's his wonderful guitar playing that comes to the fore. Blue Matter are genuinely thrilled to be able to make this great album available for the first time in 25 years.

ASTRAL MAGIC - MAGICAL KINGDOM
Astral Magic is the solo project by Santtu Laakso aka DJ Astro. Santtu used to play bass and Moog in the Finnish psychedelic space rock band Dark Sun. Astral Magic has no definitive style or form, but everything is and will be spacey and psychedelic. Since the project was started in March 2020, over 300 tracks have been created. Some of the tracks are cosmic, ambient excursions into other dimensions, some are more space/kraut/psych/prog rocking in the vein of Hawkwind, Gong, Eloy, Pink Floyd, Neu! etc. Santtu's international musician friends are often asked to join in the recordings. 'Magical Kingdom' can be considered as the first psychedelic prog-rock album by Astral Magic. The listener is taken into another mysterious, magical world. Other musicians on the album include multi-instrumentalist Jay Tausig (US, drums, guitar, saxophone, flute), Gregory Curvey (US, guitar, glockenspiel), Peter Bingham (UK, guitar), Markku Helin (FI, guitar), Anton Barbeau (US, guitar) and Perttu Lindberg (FI, drums). 'Magical Kingdom' was recorded and mixed in 2020-2021 and mastered by the krautrock legend Eroc for maximum sound quality. Comes on yellow with white splatter vinyl.

After releasing their cathartic dark psych blues epic 'Outside The Dream' in 2019 Dutch band No Man's Valley played a couple of shows and then the world stopped turning. In the midst of the global pandemic the band stayed alive by using modern technology to keep on writing and dreaming. It was quite ironic that as the band's members had found a new vitalization their flow was once again so rudely disturbed. And yet, this did not keep them from their goal. Slow but steadfast, mindful and in harmony with each other and nature, they proceeded their work. The path was as important as their goal, and so they kept on plodding, plotting, and working on their new album. Which turned out to become two short albums in one: the songs that were written separately from each other got bundled in 'Chrononaut Cocktailbar.' While after being happy to be back together No Man's Valley bundled all their live power into one godzilla of a jam song called 'Flight Of The Sloths,' verily a beast on its own. The two sides of the album perfectly shows the two wolves that are inside the band: one wolf likes to write songs with solid structure and melody, while the other wolf likes to go absolutely nuts when it comes to progressive creativity. This has always been the case for No Man's Valley, but never before was the contrast so stark, the dark and the light, the softness and the aggressiveness. In these two counterparts No Man's Valley have found their peace, and this album is the result of that. Comes on red marbled vinyl.

2024's 'Morbid Beauty' is a fantastic example of Paul's trademark mixture of gothic rock and psychedelia, if perhaps a little more rock flavoured than usual. To Blue Matter's surprise and delight the album features their old friend Mick Crossley (Flyte Reaction) on guitar throughout. Paul Roland is from Kent and has been making music since the late '70s. He has issued countless albums on a variety of labels and has been cited as a psych legend, a true cult hero and a great innovator. Frank Zappa is quoted as saying somewhat amusingly "Paul Roland writes nice music, but its too complicated for me!" Paul's musical reputation is probably somewhat greater in Europe than in the UK, which seems strange as he has been so influential to many British acts. Paul is also a celebrated music journalist and successful author having written books on cinema, history and music.

Rulaman stands for floating, psychedelic tapestries of sound, woven from an earthy and analogue sound. Formed in 2015, the band quickly achieved local success under the name The Hace. In 2019 they released the debut EP 'Peacemaker.' In 2020, the quartet became a trio and Rulaman was born. With the EP 'Rulaman' the band released for the first time a conceptual EP that takes their listeners on a journey through forest, desert, swamp and their own mind. 'To Serve The Dune' is now their debut album via Tonzonen Records. The album opener 'Bitkin (Wake)' takes the listener into the depths of the psyche and cold months. With strong riffs and driving drums, a new side of Rulaman is shown here, which now strikes harder notes. Only two tracks later, the instrumental 'Creatures' mixes familiar spherical sounds with rhythmic basses and captivating melodies. The trio's portfolio also includes critical texts. 'ThirtyNine' tells the story of a power-hungry ruler who starves his people to enrich himself. Comes on transparant green vinyl.

SAMSARA JOYRIDE - THE SUBTLE AND THE DENSE
Second album by these psychedelic stoner rockers from Vienna, Austra. 'The Subtle And The Dense' was recorded in 2023 in the studio of the Haberlgasse music cooperative in Vienna. Compared to the self-released first album, where lead singer and rhythm guitarist Florian Miehe mostly did the vocals alone, on this album they experimented much more boldly with the use of background vocals and vocal harmonies. The guitar sound is dense and, as the album title suggests, partly subtle. The band effortlessly brings styles such as stoner rock and blues rock under one roof. This makes the overall sound something special and characterizes the seven varied songs on the album. Comes on oxblood red vinyl.

SCHUBMODUL - LOST IN KELP FOREST
The second album of Schubmodul, 'Lost In Kelp Forest,' is a concept album, which does not take place thematically in the infinite expanses of space like its predecessor, but in an underwater world. The six mainly instrumental pieces are accompanied by narrators, who tell a cohesive fictional story on a dense atmospheric soundscape (voices of Alma Chomel from France and Shane Wilson from the USA). As a foundation, the triumvirate, formed in a classic line-up of guitar, bass and drums, thunders a mix of space, stoner and progressive rock onto the floor, which is occasionally supplemented by synthesizers, sound and voice samples. Dreamy, atmospheric passages meet colossal riffs and often lead to an epic melodic zenith of voluminous, warm sounds, over which gentle to fast guitar solos are discharged. The compositions make use of a wide modal palette and versatile harmonies that never cease to surprise the listener. A very high degree of attention to detail that remains exciting even after repeated listening. The band was inspired by genre-typical greats such as Elder, King Buffalo, more progressive bands such as Dream Theater and elements from the film music of Hans Zimmer. The complete album was recorded in just 6 days at the legendary Tonmeisterei. Comes on coke bottle green vinyl.

Maurizio 'Angus' Bidoli's brilliant 'Diary Of Dreams' was issued in 1998 as a very limited CD only releasegiven to friends and colleagues. It has never been reissued, and therefore this is its first ever appearance on vinyl and official CD. Angus is a native of Rome, and has played guitar with many bands, most notably the Italian metal outfit Fingernails. However, his love for the trippier, Hendrix-inspired psychjamming has manifested itself in several solo projects, and this is a great example of that. Angus plays all the instruments on this outing, and it's his wonderful guitar playing that comes to the fore. Blue Matter are genuinely thrilled to be able to make this great album available for the first time in 25 years.

2024's 'Morbid Beauty' is a fantastic example of Paul's trademark mixture of gothic rock and psychedelia, if perhaps a little more rock flavoured than usual. To Blue Matter's surprise and delight the album features their old friend Mick Crossley (Flyte Reaction) on guitar throughout. Paul Roland is from Kent and has been making music since the late '70s. He has issued countless albums on a variety of labels and has been cited as a psych legend, a true cult hero and a great innovator. Frank Zappa is quoted as saying somewhat amusingly "Paul Roland writes nice music, but its too complicated for me!" Paul's musical reputation is probably somewhat greater in Europe than in the UK, which seems strange as he has been so influential to many British acts. Paul is also a celebrated music journalist and successful author having written books on cinema, history and music.

After the great 'Tomorrow's Hell' EP (from 2020) Besthöven from Brazil are back with their second strike on Civilisation Records called 'Planeta Guerra': Eighteen songs (including a cover version of the band Auschwitz, the previous tape and CD version only had sixteen songs!!!) were recorded at the Batcave Studio between January and July 2023. Dulce Misantropia from the band Destruidö did guest vocals on one track. Fofäo Discrust, the one and only "mastermind" behind Besthöven, did a superb job. The music and the artwork created by himself sounds and looks fantastic. Besthöven continues the D-beat, raw punk struggle against war and all the shit happening in this fucked up world with great songs like 'Death Arrives In The White Light,' 'The Time To Die,' 'A World Full Of Pain And Sorrow,' 'Ghost Soldiers,' 'Hate In Their Eyes,'... Expect a full dose of raw Brasilian D-beat and raw punk, very raw but with great sound.

The album features contributions from a wide cast of characters, ranging from the tight knit community of Phil Lesh's Terrapin Crossroads to the wider West Coast indie-rock scene, including members of The Mother Hips, Sugar Candy Mountain, ALO, Tea Leaf Green and more. The album 'Barbaghamon' was an unexpected project between two singer-songwriters who did not know each other, but felt each other perfectly thanks to their mutual love of words and dedication to authenticity. Baptiste W. Hamon is a French Americana/indie-folk/chanson singer, born in Paris. In his work he combines traditional roots music with chansons, but he shows that he is not limited by these frameworks. Julien Barbagallo from Toulouse is the drummer for Tame Impala and at the same time a fundamentally European, basically French songwriter. This is clearly reflected in every intro, verse and chorus of his songs. The result is great French pop, with elements of folk, prog rock and chanson.

Yndi Da Silva is a French-Brazilian singer-songwriter and producer. Under the pseudonym Dream Koala, she receives international recognition for the ethereal pop she composes on her EPs 'Odyssey' (2013), 'Earth. Home. Destroyed' (2014) and 'Exodus' (2015), which have racked up millions of listens on digital platforms. In 2017, she retired from the stage to start writing what would become her debut album: 'Noir Brésil.' In the years that followed, producer Gabriel Legeleux (Superpoze), mixer Sylvain de Barbeyrac and female batucada group Zalindê worked together on the project until it was completed. Floating between Portuguese and French, with synthesizers and the skin of drums, Yndi imagines a contemporary song on its thirteen tracks where dreaminess, frenzy and saudade follow each other, far away from clichés.

The album 'Barbaghamon' was an unexpected project between two singer-songwriters who did not know each other, but felt each other perfectly thanks to their mutual love of words and dedication to authenticity. Baptiste W. Hamon is a French Americana/indie-folk/chanson singer, born in Paris. In his work he combines traditional roots music with chansons, but he shows that he is not limited by these frameworks. Julien Barbagallo from Toulouse is the drummer for Tame Impala and at the same time a fundamentally European, basically French songwriter. This is clearly reflected in every intro, verse and chorus of his songs. The result is great French pop, with elements of folk, prog rock and chanson.

Yndi Da Silva is a French-Brazilian singer-songwriter and producer. Under the pseudonym Dream Koala, she receives international recognition for the ethereal pop she composes on her EPs 'Odyssey' (2013), 'Earth. Home. Destroyed' (2014) and 'Exodus' (2015), which have racked up millions of listens on digital platforms. In 2017, she retired from the stage to start writing what would become her debut album: 'Noir Brésil.' In the years that followed, producer Gabriel Legeleux (Superpoze), mixer Sylvain de Barbeyrac and female batucada group Zalindê worked together on the project until it was completed. Floating between Portuguese and French, with synthesizers and the skin of drums, Yndi imagines a contemporary song on its thirteen tracks where dreaminess, frenzy and saudade follow each other, far away from clichés.

Thomas Valverde unveils 'Polka,' his second album of compositions. This opus dedicated to solo piano opts for a refined and minimalist production. Upright pianos and grand pianos are used. The grand piano allows you to develop a powerful, committed and liberating speech, the upright piano brings a more organic sound and allows you to get to the heart of the intimate. The tracks on the album are conceived as sidereal love songs. Songs without words, more capable of translating the invisible, of translating the threads of love and beauty. Everything must be said on the keyboard, in the notes and between the notes. The piano offers a saving face to face which allows you to concentrate on the essential and on your quest for the absolute. The album was recorded at the prestigious La Factory Des Ondes studio with David Chalmin (collaborator of Thom Yorke, The National, Katia & Marielle Labèque) on sound recording and mixing. The title of the album is a nod to two heroes of his adolescence: Sergei Rachmaninoff (genius composer) and Vladimir Horowitz (legendary pianist) whose music haunts so many musicians and music lovers. It's also a play on the name of DJ and producer Paul Kalkbrenner (Paul K) whose simplicity and power of songs influenced the title 'Polka.' Thomas Valverde is a pianist and composer. He is also the creator and artistic director of the Biarritz Piano Festival, which features some of the best pianists in the world.

Formed in Montreal, eight-piece funk band Cane and Able melded Caribbean elements with soul, blues and psych, frontman Frenchie Thompson holding plenty of bite and the full horn section including former Dragonaires trumpeter Norris Ridguard. After early singles on GRT, the group signed to Epic and relocated to the US but made their biggest splash in France, where they cut two LPs in 1972; this self-titled rarity has Thompson's 'Girl You Move Me,' percussionist Blinky Bostic's 'Who's Gonna Take The Weight,' and likeable takes of Wilson Picket's 'Don't Knock My Love,' 'Green Grass' and 'Toe Hold.' A lost funk classic!

PLUSH - PLUSH
'Plush,' the 1982 studio album by the Eighties synth-boogie band Plush, is a standout in the genre. The band, consisting of Siedah Garrett, Tony Phillips, and Ambrose Price, was known for their smooth blend of R&B, funk, and synth-driven melodies. Garrett, who later gained fame as a solo artist and songwriter, brought a distinctive vocal presence to the band. Not long after the band broke up, she was discovered by Michael Jackson, for who she later provided backing vocals and co-wrote 'Man In The Mirror' with. The album was produced by Bobby Watson, René Moore and Angela Winbush. It features catchy tracks like 'Free And Easy' and 'We've Got The Love,' showcasing their polished production and soulful harmonies. Despite not achieving major commercial success, 'Plush' has garnered a cult following for its authentic early eighties sound. It's a significant work within the disco boogie genre, reflecting the transitional period of early eighties music and is one of the rare and sought-after albums from that era. Limited edition of 500 copies on red vinyl. Includes an insert.

'Fear' is the first of Cale's three studio albums for Island Records, all of which were released in a period of just over a year. During this time Cale was also producing records for other artists, working on albums such as 'Horses' (1975) by Patti Smith, one of the most influential of all proto-punk records. In addition to his lead vocals on 'Fear,' Cale also played keyboards, guitars, viola, violin and bass, and was joined by Fairport Convention's Richard Thompson, Roxy Music's Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera, and other artists who were signed to Island at the time. 'Gun' features an unusual two-man guitar solo from Manzanera and Eno, with the latter using a synthesizer to process the former's guitar playing in real-time.

NICO - THE END
Repress! 'The End' is the fourth studio album by German musician Nico. It was recorded in summer 1974 at Sound Techniques studio in London and produced by John Cale. It was released in November 1974. 'The End' is her fifth collaboration with John Cale and second with him as producer. It carries the same harmonium-based sound heard on 'The Marble Index' (1968) and 'Desertshore' (1970), with the addition of Brian Eno's synthesizers and electronic instruments. The song 'You Forget To Answer' tells of the misery felt by Nico when she failed to reach ex-lover, and Doors' singer, Jim Morrison by phone only to find out later that he had died. The album was her first since Morrison's death in 1971.

Repress! 'Cry Tuff Dub Chapter One' was produced by Prince Far I aided and abetted by Adrian Sherwood. The album is one of the first collaborations by Sherwood and Far I and also one of their strongest. Far I's rhythms were always powerful and formed the backdrop to some of his most popular deejay hits always using Jamaica's top session musicians. 'Cry Tuff Dub Chapter One' is no exception with Sly Dunbar and Flabba Holt as the rhythmic powerhouse, Crucial Tony on guitar (Tony was later to become one of Creation Rebel) and Doctor Pablo on melodica. It was out of these early Far I records that the foundations for both Creation Rebel and the Dub Syndicate were laid.

Yaoundé in the 1970's was a buzzing place. Every neighbourhood of Cameroon's capital, no matter how dodgy, was filled with music spots but surprisingly there were no infrastructure to immortalise those musical riches. The country suffered from a serious lack of proper recording facilities, and the process of committing your song to tape could become a whole adventure unto itself. Of course, you could always book the national broadcasting company together with a sound engineer, but this was hardly an option for underground artists with no cash. But luckily an alternative option emerged in form of an adventist church with some good recording equipment and many of the artists on this compilation recorded their first few songs, secretly, in these premises thanks to Monsieur Awono, the church engineer. He knew the schedule of the priests and, in exchange for some cash, he would arrange recording sessions. The artists still had to bring their own equipment, and since there was only one microphone, the amps and instruments had to be positioned perfectly. It was a risky business for everyone involved but since they knew they were making history, it was all worth it. At the end of the recording, the master reel would be handed to whoever had paid for the session, usually the artist himself... and what happened next? With no distribution nor recording companies around this was a legitimate question. More often then not it was the French label Sonafric that would offer their manufacturing and distribution structure and many Cameroonian artist used that platform to kickstart their career. What is particularly surprising in the case of Sonafric was their willingness to take chances and judge music solely on their merit rather than their commercial viability. The sheer amount of seriously crazy music released also spoke volumes about the openness of the people behind the label. But who exactly are these artists that recorded one or two songs before disappearing, never to be heard from again? Some of the names were so obscure that even the most seasoned veterans of the Cameroonian music scene had never heard of them. A few trips to the land of Makossa and many more hours of interviews were necessary to get enough insight to assemble the puzzle-pieces of Yaoundé's buzzing 1970s music scene. We learned that despite the myriad difficulties involved in the simple process of making and releasing a record, the musicians of Yaoundé's underground music scene left behind an extraordinary legacy of raw grooves and magnificent tunes. The songs may have been recorded in a church, with a single microphone in the span of only an hour or two, but the fact that we still pay attention to these great creations some 50 years later, only illustrates the timelessness of their music. The double LP pressed on 140g virgin vinyl comes with a full color 12-pages booklet.

Bachdenkel was an English rock band that started under the name The U (Don't) No Who in 1968. The three piece consisted of band leader Colin Swinburne on vocals/guitars/keyboards, Peter Kimberley on bass/piano/vocals and Brian Smith on drums, with Karel Beer as an additional musician, engineer and producer. The group relocated to France to live, perform and record. Their first effort - 'Lemmings' - was released on Philips France in 1973, showing their excellent musicianship and songwriting. Conceived as a three sided album it was recorded during the summer of 1970. This double version includes 3 missing tracks originally conceived for the Initial Recording Company EP, a small label ran by Karel Beer. The album has an evident late sixties British psych-rock flavor, but comes with occasional harder moments and longer, more developed compositions in a proto progrock manner.

In 1975, singers Bruce Ruffin, Bobby Davis and Dave Collins - the latter of reggae duo Dave & Ansel Collins - came together to form Chain Reaction, a short-lived UK harmony soul group who recorded their only album 'Indebted To You' for Gull in 1977. This sought after session includes their popular version of Lamont Dozier 'Why Can't We Be Lovers,' the sweet soul single 'Never Lose Never Win' and the non album single 'This Eternal Flame.' Rare groove alert: The electric funk of 'Hogtied' is the top of the crème here, with a bass line reminiscent of Aaron Neville's 'Hercules,' a sumptuous clavinet and a majestic wah-wah guitar.

Fully licensed, limited to 500 copies. The sole self-titled album by English progsters Chillum was in fact an offshoot project of famous psychedelic icon Second Hand. They shared three members - George Hart, Ken Elliott, Kieran O'Connor - with the former band, giving birth to a more experimental act. The record originally saw the light of day in 1971. The LP was supposed to be the third Second Hand album, but apparently the members decided to change the band's name. Their heavy swinging approach was in the end similar to such contemporary luminaries like Atomic Rooster, Leaf Hound, and Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come. A jam album with lots of roaring percussion and an impressive organ to make big sound. Ken Elliott (keyboards, Mellotron, organ, vocals), Kieran O'Connor (drums), Tony McGill (guitar) and George Hart (bass).

Singer and guitarist Ram John Holder was born in 1939 in Georgetown, British Guyana, then moved to Cincinnati in 1954, and to the East Coast to work as folk blues singer in the early 1960s. In 1963, he took residency in England where he recorded several albums. Released in 1969 'Black London Blues' is surely is masterpiece. A socio-political manifesto the album chronicles the trials and tribulations that were the result of being a black-immigrant in London, and it contains all the pathos and pain one can imagine. Self-conscious, as concept albums often are, the record is almost like an audio A-Z or pub guide. It's funky and represents his own black experience. It is a must have for all the blues revivalist out there, a record to rank along the lines of early Mike Cooper and American stalwarts like Eugene McDaniels or Sixto Rodriguez!

VANDROOGENBROECK, JOEL - IMAGES OF FLUTE IN NATURE
Brainticket was an obscure krautrock band born out of a '60s jazz group featuring Belgian born keyboardist Joel Vandroogenbroeck, based in Switzerland. The leader went for a fortunate solo career after the former group disbanded, reaching a cult status especially in Italy with a series of sought after libraries. Released in 1978 on Cenacolo, 'Images Of Flute In Nature' is pure magic translated in music. Conceived by Joel with a little help from vocalist Carole Muriel (an American performer already involved in Brainticket and Drum Circus), the album is literally a deep connection between kosmische music, ambient and ethno-global rhythms.

WHISPERS - PLANETS OF LIFE
Formed in 1964 in Watts, California, U.S. and based in Los Angeles, the original members were the Texan twin brothers Wallace Scott and Walter Scott plus Gordy Harmon, Marcus Hutson and Nicholas Caldwell. In 1973 Gordy Harmon injured his larynx in a driving accident and was replaced by Leaveil Degree. 'Planets Of Life' was the result of the incoming change, a vocal soul-funk masterpiece from a renewed harmony group. Often compared to the Isley Brothers, due to Scotty Scott's vocal similarities to Ronald Isley, the band was an excellent r&b combo, turning lately into an electric funk vibe with a clear Temptations twist.
