DOM - EDGE OF TIME
Monster tripped-out Floydian psychedelia/krautrock by this band from Düsseldorf featuring visual artist Gabor Baksay. This is their sought-after album originally released in 1972. Dark, atmospheric, hypnotic sound with percussion, flute, organ, guitars and early electronics/proto-industrial sound collages.
Dom (Gabor and Laszlo Baksay, Rainer Puzalowski and Hans-Georg Stopka) evolved from a beat/psychedelic band called the Early Birds, later Set Mind, who were in a sort of sporty competition with another group called Spirits Of Sounds, featuring Michael Rother's pre-Neu! and Kraftwerk drummer Wolfgang Flür. Dom were regulars at underground clubs from Düsseldorf such as the Creamcheese, where they rubbed shoulders with early Krafwerk and Can. 'Edge Of Time' was recorded at the legendary Neubauer Studios (Harmonia, Kalacakra, Anima-Sound...) and subsequently released on the tiny Melocord label in 1972. Its enigmatic cover was designed by a friend of the band, Jutta Keime.

It's hard to overstate the importance of Fanny's 1970 self-titled debut album. For the first time, a group of women (sisters June and Jean Millington, Alice De Buhr and Nickey Barclay) wrote and sang their own songs, played their own instruments and, perhaps most importantly, rocked just as hard as any male band out there. And, as the first all-female band signed to a major label (Reprise) and with superstar producer Richard Perry at the board, these four women became perhaps L.A.'s biggest "buzz band," landing repeated bookings at the Whisky-a-Go-Go with a who's who of rock's glitterati in attendance. 750 individually numbered copies on silver coloured vinyl.

FUGS - DANCING IN THE UNIVERSE
First album by the cult band since 2010. The Fugs was formed in 1964 by Ed Sanders with Tuli Kupferberg and Kenn Weaver. Until they disbanded the group captured the time spirit and they were alongside Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention the representatives of a quite new mix of political protest,
Dadaistic free form performances, poetry - but first rock & roll. The Fugs produced 6 great albums including the masterpieces 'Tenderness Junction' (1968) and 'It Crawled Into My Hand, Honest' (1969), before they disbanded in 1969. Ed Sanders pursued a very successful career as a writer and poet.
His book about the Manson Family was a huge bestseller. In 1984 Sanders brought The Fugs together again and has recorded several albums since then, including the brilliant 'No More Slavery' from 1986. Two tunes on the LP version were recorded by Scott Petito at Tuli Kupferberg's loft in NYC in 2005. The Fugs have added instruments and harmony singing to Tuli's originals. Limited to 500 copies.

Reissue of Gandalf's 1969 self-titled release. Recorded at Century Sound in Manhattan with Grammy-winning producer Brooks Arthur (who engineered Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline' and Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl'), the production of the album was created on the spot in the studio with arrangements being thrown about and the incredibly haunted vocals being recorded directly from the band's PA using a Binson Echorec to make this innovative sound (Pink Floyd later used the same echo unit to great effect). Add to that sitars, vibes, B3 organs, harpsichord, minor tragic guitar chords, and bass drones aplenty, and you've got the recipe for an album that bears listening to with eyes closed, music cranked, mind open.
So get in on the beauty of this record, and as Sando says on the liner notes: "Put the needle in the groove, sit back, and take the trip with GANDALF."

Ultimate kraut basement hard-rock garage monster. Originally from Brinkum (near Bremen), Grave was formed in a basement in 1975. Using a primitive tape recorder and just two mics, six tracks were recorded live at a makeshift studio located at the Brinkum Jugendhaus (youth center) in summer 1975, resulting in the Grave 'Nr. 1' album. Grave's music is raw, sincere, melancholic and unadulterated.

Horse formed in 1968 when former high school friends Rod Roach and Adrian Hawkins started writing songs together. Rod had previously played lead guitar with various groups (included a brief stint with Andromeda). Horse's final line-up was established in early 1969 with Adrian Hawkins on vocals, Rod Roach on guitar, Colin Standring on bass and Ric Parnell (Atomic Rooster, Spinal Tap) on drums. It's a fantastic example of post-psychedelia and early hard-rock/proto-metal, dominated by Roach's killer fuzz-wah guitar and Hawkins powerful vocals.

JETHRO TULL - HARD TIMES OF OLD ENGLAND (2LP)
Following the end of the 'Stormwatch 'tour in early 1980, Jethro Tull would undergo its largest line-up shuffle to date, resulting in Barriemore Barlow, John Evan and Dee Palmer all leaving the band. Jethro Tull was left with Anderson (the only original member), Martin Barre and Dave Pegg. Tull's first album of the 1980s was intended to be an Ian Anderson solo album. Anderson retained Barre on electric guitar and Pegg on bass, while adding Mark Craney on drums, and special guest keyboardist/violinist Eddie Jobson (ex-Roxy Music). Highlighted by the prominent use of synthesisers, it contrasted sharply with the established "Tull sound." Among Jethro Tull's very fine shows was their concert at the Stadthalle, Freiburg, Germany, on 30th April 1982, a performance also recorded for live FM radio broadcast. Previously unreleased, this superb show is now available in its entirety on this 2LP set, allowing fans a chance to hear a quite dazzling gig from Jethro Tull from almost 40 years ago.

After their vinyl debut 'Modul 12' (2019), '-270§C' is Kombynat Robotron's second release through Tonzonen Records. The album contains four mostly improvised tracks, each named after a space-telescope. 'Compton,' 'Chandra,' 'Spitzer' and 'Hubble' are four different perspectives on space, four deep looks into the universe. While the band's live performances are always a unique experience of longform-jams that slowly evolve, Kombynat Robotron take a different approach on this record. The music is still improvised, yet there's clearly a different vibe in these tracks than in the band's earlier records.

Finnish group Mahti is a collaboration between members of avant-rock legends Circle and Hannu Saha. The latter plays the Kantele, a traditional Finnish acoustic instrument which is plucked like a zither or harp, producing a delicate string sound. Following their two very limited studio albums on UK label Riot Season, the DOUBLE-ALBUM 'Konsertti I' is an excellent recording of the group in live performance, capturing their understated and beautiful mix of ambient, electronic and string music.

TONIC - THIS WAY
Little is known about the highly talented band Tonic, who hail from the Stuttgart region. Their only LP 'This Way' was released in 1980 on the Peak label, and was recorded at Sypgel Studios in Kirchheim/Teck. Peak was one of the labels run by Peter Garattoni and Günther Marek, both active musicians with Eulenspygel. As is often the case, Achim Bosch (Sinner, Iris, Sphinx, Floating Opera, etc.) was responsible for the mixing. After the release of the album, most of the band members returned to the Tiefste Provinz line-up (one album). Only saxophonist Michael Draskowitsch remained active for many years as a session musician on various albums.

Sensational reissue for the first volume of iconic compilation 'Simla Beat 70.' A psych garage manifesto, the record consisted of groups who appeared at the All-India Simla Beat 'battle of the bands' contest held in two years (1970 and '71) in Bombay. The annual event and the records were sponsored by The Imperial Tobacco Company. Bands from all around India would compete for first prize. The album - indeed - was not recorded live on the stage but in a primitive makeshift studio using very little overdubbing or sound reinforcement. The sound is generally influenced by the proto-garage western movement of the mid sixties and later became a massive cult for all the '70s rock fans.

The title track was released as a single, as was 'Strange Kind Of Woman,' not from the album but recorded during the same sessions. The 'Fireball' tour began on March 6th 1971, in Perth, the first of five shows in Australia, after which the band toured across continental Europe, and in July '71, they landed in North America for concerts in Canada and the US. Back in the UK by mid-September, on 29th of the month Deep Purple performed at Bournemouth's Winter Gardens, on the English south coast. Still considered one of the tour's finest concerts, the Bournemouth show was recorded for live FM radio broadcast and is now available on this two-instalment set. Comes on purple vinyl.

Doom is made out of 666 tons heavy riffing, vocals filled with pain, regret and spite as well as leaden song-structures stretched taut to the point of ripping. Pentagram embody all those virtues like no other contender in this oldest of all genres of metal being founded by none other than Black Sabbath. Many have named Pentagram the true heirs of those originators of heavy metal and honourably dubbed them 'the American Black Sabbath.' In this sixth incarnation of the band, doom lord Bobby Liebling had reunited with drummer Joe Hasselvander, who had already been a member of Pentagram twice before. Hasselvander played all the instruments, while Liebling added his matchless vocals. Acid, formed in Bruges in 1980 (and initially called Precious Page), are widely considered to have been one of the first speed metal bands on the European continent. Lead vocalist Kate de Lombaerd, guitarists Dirk Simoens (Dizzy Lizzy) and Donald Devers (Demon), bassist Peter (T-Bone) and drummer Geert (Anvill) recorded three highly regarded albums for Giant Records - 'Acid' (1983), 'Maniac' (1983) and 'Engine Beast' (1985) - before breaking up sometime in the mid-'80s. In 2019, Kate de Lombaerd decided to resurrect the band and eventually got together with Mathieu Trobec (bass), Gilles Reuse (guitar), Andreas Stieglitz (guitar) and Bastiaan Andriessen (drums) under the name of Kate's Acid. They appeared live at 'Keep It True Rising' in 2021 and once again at 'Keep It True' in 2023, where the current live album, aptly called 'Blowing Your Ears Off,' was recorded.

PENTAGRAM - SUB-BASEMENT
Remastered version of Pentagram's legendary 2001 album 'Sub-Basement' with a brand new cover designed by Solo Macello.
Doom is made out of 666 tons heavy riffing, vocals filled with pain, regret and spite as well as leaden song-structures stretched taut to the point of ripping. Pentagram embody all those virtues like no other contender in this oldest of all genres of metal being founded by none other than Black Sabbath. Many have named Pentagram the true heirs of those originators of heavy metal and honourably dubbed them 'the American Black Sabbath.' In this sixth incarnation of the band, doom lord Bobby Liebling had reunited with drummer Joe Hasselvander, who had already been a member of Pentagram twice before. Hasselvander played all the instruments, while Liebling added his matchless vocals. 'Sub-Basement' was the second output of this line-up and is regarded as the most rock'n'roll effort of the doomsters ever. On top of Pentagram's perfect doom sound an irresistible groove and capturing catchiness was added, which made the album an all time favourite for many fans. 'Sub-Basement' will kick your ass and twist your legs.

In October 1981, Prince released the album 'Controversy.' He played several dates in support of it, as the first of three opening acts for the Rolling Stones, on their US tour. In Los Angeles, Prince, who appeared in a trench coat and black bikini briefs, was forced off the stage after just three songs by audience members throwing trash at him. He began 1982 with a small tour of college towns where he was the headlining act. Among the best shows he played during this jaunt took place at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey on 30th January '82, when Prince and his band performed a storming set that many fans still rank highly today. Previously unreleased on vinyl, this remarkable gig is now available on this 2LP set in its entirety, allowing all fans to hear what this mercurial talent sounded like during the early years of his stunning career.

At the beginning of 1991, Prince and his band were invited to play two dates as part of Rock In Rio 2, the second edition of the Brazilian-based music festival, the largest in the world. The recording featured here comes from Prince's first appearance at the event, when he headlined proceedings on Friday 18th January. The result, presented here across two LPs, is perhaps one of the finest shows in musical history. With the crowd in the palm of his hand throughout, Prince put on a quite superlative performance, as thrilling as ever, and featured such legendary tracks as 'Purple Rain,' 'Kiss,' 'Nothing Compares 2 U' and a medley of 'Baby I'm A Star.' Aesthetically, Ed Schrader's Music Beat hates to tread water. At the same time, the Baltimore-based two-piece of vocalist Ed Schrader and bassist Devlin Rice won't force their songs to fit a preconceived style. "The next album's always gotta be different from the last one. We're different people from record to record. So, writing authentically to ourselves will always bring our work to a place that we haven't been to yet," Rice said. Schrader added, "We're terrified of turning into AC/DC. We never want to be married to one scene or time or sound. We want to be the Boba Fett of bands! Constantly altering the way in which we make records has been pretty key in that process."
For 'Orchestra Hits,' that alteration was welcoming longtime musical comrade Dylan Going into the fold as a co-writer and co-producer. A songwriter in his own right, a guitar sideman for ESMB on their last two tours, and a collaborator with Rice in the noise riffage band Mandate, Going had both a unique vision and an intimate familiarity with the ESMB vibe. Limited to 700 copies on blue-transparant vinyl.

'A Lullaby For Suffering' is the sequel to 'Songs Of Leonard Cohen' from the theater program of the same name, performed by Bert van den Bergh (vocals, acoustic guitar), Tessa Kersten (vocals), Ton Clout (electric guitar) and Hanz Martenz (piano, keyboard ). Bert was once allowed to perform a song solo during a service as the guitarist of a youth church orchestra. Leonard Cohen's 'Suzanne' became the first song he played in front of an audience. During his musical career, Bert has written much of his own work with Cohen as a guideline and source of inspiration. This work was played with various bands on (large) stages at home and abroad. Cohen's songs have always been a common thread in Bert's musical life, but after the master's death he put his favorite songs together and started playing them live. Sold out halls, applause and praise for the stubborn way in which Bert van den Bergh portrays Cohen without wanting to imitate him.

'Reggae Charmers' is the 1970 album by Lloyd Charmers, born Lloyd Tyrell. His career spans some of the most fertile periods of Jamaica's musical history. From the late-'50s era of Jamaican shuffle R&B and the subsequent ska boom, to the rocksteady and roots reggae of the late '60s and early '70s, Charmers made valuable contributions not only as a vocalist, but as a session musician and producer, as well. Charmers took up the piano in 1966. A few years later, he was an accomplished enough player to form a band of his own with a few friends. The band eventually backed Ken Parker, Max Romeo, Pat Kelly, John Holt, and Slim Smith & the Uniques (Charmers would also spend some time singing for the Uniques). Buoyed by their reputation for laying down some of the rawest and driving rhythms of the time. 'Bad Man Possee' is a classic early eighties dub reggae recording by Junior Murvin, who made his name working with Lee "Scratch" Perry on his 1976 debut album 'Police & Thieves.' This album features some stirringly hypnotic tracks to go along with the hit title track. 'Guitar' is an eerie ode to Murvin's first guitar, riding craftily over a headnodding rhythm provided by 'Dread At The Controls' studio musicians the Roots Radics Band. While Murvin changes speeds quite mercurially, from the love lost recollection 'Never Fall In Love' to the politically charged 'Rebellion,' the high quality of the music remains even throughout. Murvin's outstanding doo wop-inspired falsetto is a uniquely inspired nod to the R&B tradition as well as the stylings of ska, rocksteady, and dub. 'Revelation' is the 2010 album by dub pioneer Lee "Scratch" Perry (born Rainford Hugh Perry). From his Jamaican based Black Ark Studio, he created some pivotal works by producing new instrumental or vocal versions of existing tracks. Later, he moved to Switzerland, where he reinvented himself as a performance and visual artist and collaborated with artists such as The Beastie Boys, The Clash, and Adrian Sherwood among others. For his album 'Revelation,' he collaborated with Keith Richards and George Clinton. The album is the last in a series of three albums he made with English musician and producer Steve Marshall a.k.a. John Saxon. The album is accompanied by the full-length film 'The Revelation of Lee "Scratch" Perry,' which looks behind the scenes of the recording sessions and features an in-depth interview with the great man. 'Kamikaze Dub' by Prince Jammy is undoubtedly one of the most beloved albums by dub music lovers and a record to have in every self-respecting record collection. An album for any time of the day, or season, that never bores and indeed has aged very well always amazes and stimulates. Jamaican dub music first appeared in the mid-'70s under the guidance of the creative master mind, King Tubby. By the late '70s, two of his top co-workers, Scientist and Prince Jammy were ready to branch out on their own, and they did. Jammy's record came out first and that's why 'Kamikaze Dub' (1979) is often cited as the album that raised the bar for good. After its release, many Jamaican producers aspired to create the same swirling psychedelic minimal sound that Jammy presented on these near perfect tracks. The musicianship on here is outstanding as well, with other dub stars taking part such as Sly and Robbie on drums and bass, Augustus Pablo on keyboards, 'Deadly' Headley Bennett and Bobby Ellis on horns, as well as many others.

American trumpeter Chet Baker was a major innovator in cool jazz, leading him to be nicknamed "the prince of cool." He earned much attention and praise through the fifties, particularly for albums featuring his vocals. This included his 1954 album 'Chet Baker Sings' and its follow-up 'Chet Baker Sings Again' in 1985. The latter he released on the Dutch jazz label Timeless Records. He recorded the album with bassist Ricardo Del Fra, drummer John Engels and pianist Michel Graillier. 'Chet Baker's Sings Again' is available as a limited edition of 500 copies on yellow coloured vinyl.

A legendary concert by one of the great unrecorded bands in free jazz history is here at last. 'Webo,' the third installment in the Black Editions Archive series of previously unreleased recordings from Milford Graves' private tape library, roars into the station June 21, 2024. For the first time, Charles Gayle, Milford Graves and William Parker -three lions of the Black American jazz avant-garde- are finally heard together on record, presented here across three audiophile-quality LPs for two brutalizingly joyous hours of real ju-ju and musical mastery. The trio of Charles Gayle, Milford Graves and William Parker gave only seven public performances between 1985 & 2013 and released no recordings. Their June 1991 two-night stand at the short-lived Lower East Side venue Webo, long referenced as a signal event in New York free jazz's 1990s resurgence, has been a topic of discussion among close followers of the music for decades. In the uncompromising grassroots spirit of the 1970s New York Musicians Organization and loft jazz movements from which they had emerged, the band produced and promoted the Webo concerts themselves. Photography and audio recording were not allowed at the concerts and this official recording, commissioned by the artists, was never released - until now. So vivid was the lore surrounding Webo that it topped the list of recordings sought by Black Editions Archive from Graves' private collection. The tapes maximally substantiate eyewitness accounts describing extra-sensory levels of communication within the band and the extraordinary clarity and impact of their performance. From William Parker's liner notes: "Imagine a village or choir of drummers, horn players and strings. You can hear the bass and drums churning with a call and response, a melodic-rhythmic propulsion. In reality there is only one drummer, one bass and one saxophone." Age 52 at the time of these concerts, Charles Gayle had only recently made his first recordings. To all but the most immediate insiders he was still more myth than reality. Milford Graves, two months out from his 50th birthday, was about halfway into his body of recorded work and had sanctioned just one appearance on a commercially released recording in the last 14 years ('Pieces Of Time' by an all drummer quartet with Kenny Clarke, Andrew Cyrille and Famoudou Don Moye). William Parker, the young man of the group at age 39, was a mere fifty entries into his discography, now 500+ entries and counting. All three musicians were at least a quarter century into passionately developing a personal and collective music rooted in the cultural values & radical aesthetics of the 1960s and '70s Black American avant-garde.
30+ years after the Webo concerts, Black Editions Archive is honored to make these historical recordings available to the public. The 3 LPs are presented in a heavy black, pigment-stamped box with mounted cover painting along with liner notes by William Parker, commentary from Alan Licht (witness to night one of the Webo concerts), a reproduction of the original concert flyer and a set of 6x9 printed photos from the 2021 Webo reunion outside MoMA PS1, Queens, NY. Once again it's quite difficult to pin down exactly what's going on through Herandu's debut album, Ocher Red, but its a little bit like Metalheadz meets Weather Report out on the Siberian steppes.
Herandu are brothers Evgeny and Mikhail Gavrilov from Novosibirsk in Siberia. Mikhail and his brother have played music together since they were very young eventually forming the band FPRF together in the mid 2000's.
Herandu was born in 2022 during several studio sessions they managed to grab whilst both visiting Siberia. They both quickly realised that together they were making music that didn't quite sound like either of their solo projects but which was influenced by the music of their formative years. Their friend Vladimir Luchansky was invited in to add saxophone and the result is an 'urban music' that's as influenced by the gritty cityscapes of '70s TV cop thrillers as it is by 21st Century urbanism.

Fans of Sun Ra's space bop and genre-bending jazz were in for a shock with 'Strange Strings.' Even in the eclectic and sometimes baffling Sun Ra catalog, 'Strange Strings,' first issued in 1967, is an outlier. Is it music, or just noise? Or noise as music? John Cage could not be reached for comment.
For this album, Sun Ra collected an arsenal of exotic string instruments and handed them out to his Arkestra on the precept that "strings could touch people in a special way." That the Arkestrans didn't know how to play or tune these instruments was not beside the point - it was the point. Ra framed it "a study in ignorance." The result was primitive, yet sophisticated; brutal, yet highly sensitive. In his essay for this expanded edition, musician-curator David Toop calls Strange Strings "saturated in mystery." The original 1967 Saturn LP version was monophonic, contained three tracks, and suffered distortion in the mastering (perhaps due to the high-decibel studio performance and excessive reverb). Yet some sessions were captured in stereo. A dozen strange-string works have been located, five of which are included on this remastered edition. No track titles appeared on the original Saturn LP verso, but the three works issued were later identified as 'World's Approaching,' the LP title track, and an inversion of the title, 'Strings Strange.' A belatedly discovered tape box listed the third recording as 'Strange Strange,' a title which has been used in this edition.

These recordings were made in Bombay in 1968 by Bengt Berger (Bitter Funeral Beer Band) during a stay with Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, who was primarily responsible for the revival of the rudra veena as a solo concert instrument. His home in the suburb of Chembur was at the time the magical haunt of a plethora of fantastic musicians, including Ritwik Sanyal and K. Sridhar, who took part in the session. In perfect and stern Duphrad vocal style, these two raga lead us to different atmospheres and perceptions: 'Malkauns' is the contemplative state of the evening, of the abandonment of the senses before the breaking of the silence in the night; 'Miyan Ki Todi' is the first breath of the morning, the gentle awakening of the limbs before a puja. The two Dagar brothers, Mohiuddin on the rudra and Fariduddin on the chant, complement each other, become ocean and fire, stillness and storm, in an intimate and tight dialogue of exploration and expressive subtlety, in which the purity of an Indian summer becomes the highest symbol of beauty and freedom of spirit. GILBERTO, JOAO - THE WARM WORLD OF JOAO GILBERTO
Brazilian singer, poet, guitarist Joao Gilberto made his 1959 debut with the now legendary LP 'Chega De Saudade,' a new sound and acknowledged as the first bossa nova album, a genre that swept the world in popularity and was taken up by such artists as Stan Getz, Charly Byrd, Astrud Gilberto, Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones, and countless others. Presented here is essentially a themed compilation of some of his best songs, including tracks from his acclaimed debut LP 'Chega De Saudade.' Comes on clear vinyl.

The legendary music publisher KPM, famous for its iconic music library catalogue, commissioned a group of session musicians in 2018 to write and record an authentic tribute to the early '70s Latin soul boogaloo blending heavy funk/soul with the infectious Latin rhythms (cha cha, mambo, rumba and bossa nova)
Although not originally intended for commercial release, this vinyl LP is a limited pressing of just 500 copies and features 15 songs inspired by pioneers such as Tito Puente, Ray Barretto and Machito. Ray Lopez and his band recorded the session in the traditional way for this style using vintage microphones direct to analogue tape to get that classic authentic tone.

LOS DIABLOS ROJOS - RITMO SATANICO
Today, Los Diablos Rojos are known around the world for a unique tropical sound that has transcended passing fashions and managed to hold its own in an era marked by transience and oblivion. Over the years, they have become the forerunners of a trend that has been developing for half a century and is gaining more and more praise and recognition. They have become a musical reference for other contemporary tropical music bands that have found in Los Diablos Rojos, above all, an example of creativity and resilience. The Peruvian cumbia band Los Diablos Rojos was born within the quincha and adobe walls of Cañete Chico with a proposal very different from what all the musicians of the time were working on: an instrumental tropical music style of their own. Even Enrique Delgado (Los Destellos), Beto Cuesta (Los Ecos) and Berardo Hernandez (Manzanita Y Su Conjunto), who all found a source of income in música criolla, did not limit themselves to working for hire. They were all crossing the same bridge, the bridge of tropical music. Above all, the sense of renewal was the incentive for this bet. If they wanted to change the paradigm, they would not do it by copying styles they had already heard many times before.

LOS SANDERS DE NANA - CARRETEANDO, VOL. I
In the story of Los Sanders, many sources can be found to understand the emergence of "chicha," a style associated with the life of migrants in the city that saw its heyday in the 1980s, but also to understand the connections between youth music, "new ola," and rock with tropical rhythms. Los Sanders serve as a bridge between periods and styles, and their ability to adapt to musical genres and reinvent them has given them a unique style. Los Sanders De Ñaña reflect a Lima that was transforming, giving way to a new face and a new urban soundtrack. In the universe of Peruvian tropical music, one can distinguish a wide variety of styles. One of the most unique is known as the "carretero" style, also referred to as the "Carretera Central" sound, which alludes to the sound developed by a series of musical groups that became known during the 1970s in the areas surrounding this major highway. At that time, this area received a large influx of migrants from the provinces who came to the capital in search of a better future. The initiators of this carretero style were Los Sanders De Ñaña, and following them, other groups emerged, not only creating a unique style but also establishing a circuit.

OUDI HRANT - TURKISH DELIGHT
Blind musician Hrant Kenkulian (1901-1978), generally known as Oudi Hrant was a master of the oud (fretless lute) who was probably best known for his taksims. He was an Armenian born in Adapazar, a city close to Istanbul which had a large Armenian population before the Genocide of 1915. After WWI, Hrant's family settled in Istanbul. Hrant started out singing in the church choir, but soon moved on to the oud. He made his career in Istanbul, but he toured the US in 1950, and did a world tour in 1963 to Paris, Beirut, Greece, America, and Yerevan, Soviet Armenia. He was a teacher of many Armenian-American oudists including Richard Hagopian. He was the pride of the Armenian people, and many consider him to be the most soulful oudist ever to emerge from Turkey. Released in 1964 on jazz label Prestige the record shows the stunning classical inspiration of the musician.
