GEARFAB		 ROGER - A COLD DAY IN DECEMBER/FLOWER CHILD

Original copies of the very first Gear Fab release from 1987! The Gear Fab label is one of America's preeminent reissue labels of rare psychedelic music. But before it became exclusively a reissue label, Roger Maglio had started the label as a solo vehicle for his personal brand of neo psychedelia. At this point in Roger's life, he was working in Denver for the aerospace industry, and was playing music on the side. The songs here are dedicated to the memory of John Lennon, so that gives you a guidepost of the music found within. Maglio plays all the instruments, and the keyboards are 1980s sounding all the way, including the drum machine found on side 1. Side 2 is more towards folk psych.

Founded in Rennes in 2017, instrumental bass-drums two-piece Alber Jupiter draw inspiration from Berlins 70's krautrock scene and Godspeed You! Following the release of their stunning debut album 'We Are All Floating In Space,' the band took advantage of the forced covid break to compose and record a second album which sees them pursuing their psychedelic exploration. A looper, a few pedals and the journey becomes limitless! The bass morphs into guitars, trippy violins, screams, ethereal or distorted layers. The synths are also part of the adventure, completing the already rich sonic spectrum and propelling the band into new territories.

"We're old and familiar friends. These compositions represent the thing that happens when we get together. They aren't representative of one individual, one moment in time, or one chain of decisions. Some are ancient refrains, beginning life as habits and warm-ups, in-jokes; others are distilled jams; more still are refined from MIDI sketches and ideas whistled into voice notes. On whatever terms these elements become something we're happy to stand in front of you and play, to put on record, so be it." So Anta describe the process behind 2024's 'Organesson.' Characteristic of the Bristolian sci-prog quartet, the record weaves together mesmerising, muscular riffs in insanely loud compositions that extend well into excess. Less typical is the polarisation at play, where granular polymeters will yield in an instant to passages of one or two-note simplicity. The record strides from one raging refrain to the next, lurching between devastation, joy, chaos, and stirring the themes accumulated along the way in exposition. "It comes down to those precious sweaty hours" the group suggest, "in which we get to vibrate these sounds into your face and chest, and you can dance and laugh with us. This is the stuff we remember and plan for, the moments we talk about the most when writing these songs." Anta's live shows, ceaseless onslaughts of deafening riffs, have been notable for maintaining the same intense energy among festival crowds or to three people in a basement. Walls of amps going full-pelt. Pounding, ornate drums and metals, wherein drummer James King is relentless in discovering strange and mighty rhythms. Full-drawbar organs, electric pianos, piercing synths from keys-man Alex Bertram-Powell. Joe Garcia's growling bass that strides rather than walks. Ben Harris' all-encompassing, dizzying guitars. Al performs psychedelic electronic music as Alien. As Masal they weave harp, Theremin and electronics into a beautiful aural journeys. Having worked with legends such as Andy Bell and Mark Gardener of Ride, and Sonic Cathedral, plus enjoyed radio play from the wonderful Simone Butler of Primal Scream on Soho Radio, and Mark Riley and Stuart Maconie on BBC 6 Music, we are very excited for you to see what the pair have been cooking up.

"Subjagger arose from the ashes of a couple of bands knocking around London sometime in late 1991. A three-piece guitar band, we started jamming under the arches of a railway line in East London. Our own energy fuelled us though, as we worked to hone our sound which was somewhere between '60s power pop and '70s rock. This was before Britpop made all these sorts of cultural references fashionable. In '93 we signed to Acid Jazz on their new rock imprint Focus and the 'Flock' EP was released , produced by Eddie Piller. We played some hip clubs in London like Magick and Smashing. Our record was played in the happening Blow Up club in Camden and other mod clubs too. We did a couple of UK tours supporting the likes of Corduroy and Mother Earth. When the end came in '95 it was unexpected and in the middle of recording that last album. Three became two. Those recordings have now been beautifully mastered and made available through Heavy Soul Records. At the end of the day, we were Subjagger. And so were you."

The arum lily (zantedeschia aethiopica) is a species of flowering plant in the family Araceae, native to southern Africa. What does this beautiful flower have to do with experimental industrial music? The rather obscure second album of Arum Lilies, a brainchild of Mark Groves (Von Einem etc.), does not provide answers. What it does provide, however, is an album of vaguely unsettling, eerily obscure experimental electronics. Harrowing, subtle atmospherics clash with moments of eardrum shattering industrial noise; warbling pseudomelodies are offset by crackling static and piercing feedback; ominous vocal samples are layered on passages of tightly controlled minimalism. 'Subsurface Aquifers' is a piece of music that migrates between poles, from an almost ambient sparsity of expression to exuberant bursts of chaos. 'Subsurface Aquifers' is not an album of shallow industrial nihilism or typical power electronics misanthropy. It does not allow itself to be defined so easily. As such, it demands more from the listener - but also offers more. Limited to 120 copies.

Years ago Dig This Way were lucky enough to get an incredible and uncredited acetate with a deep instrumental cut of 'Satta Massagana,' long story short after few weeks they got it the plate totally cracked and became unplayable. They managed to send the plate to Rome at Vinyl Restoration who made a little miracle and somehow fixed it well enough to export a digital crackling recording of it to keep in the archives. Few years later, they played the noisy recording to the great musicians from Dig This Way All Stars and it was decided it was absolutely the case to attempt a modern remake of it. That's how Abeng, Sere and Monz made the structure of the riddim, then Rootikal Horns handled the trombone and sax, Nicola Gallo did the organ part and Jonny De Ambassador played the percussion! The final touch was done by Yakka who mixed a couple wicked dubwises of it and Pressure Mastering that made it sound proper! Limited to 250 black copies.
