Suffused with new digital technologies and combining searingly sweet and danceable pop with perhaps the duo's strangest and boundary-pushing compositions, the album did exactly what a

In October 2023, Greek label Anazitisi Records celebrates 20 years as a record label, so they proudly present the official release of the previously unissued album by Ashhollow. The band formed in 1973 in Oklahoma USA. After some personnel changes they took their final form in 1975 with Bill Kirtley: vocals, guitar, Mike Stewart: vocals, guitar, Mike Hanna: vocals, bass and Gary Bruce: drums. They played locally in clubs and concerts and had their own compositions written by all 4 members. Besides the original material (most of it, is presented here) they played a variety of covers by bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, CSN&Y, Kansas etc. Their music is ranged between hard rock with many psych underground vibes and
progressive rock with jazzy overtones. Wishbone Ash, Primevil, Majic Ship, Hard Meat, even quieter and less polished Ashbury come in mind... This album was made from an original reel-to-reel tape, recorded on January 30, 1976. All live in the studio with no overdubs. The tape contains 11 songs in total but Anazitisi used only the 9 of them because of vinyl limitations. Soon after the recordings, Ashhollow came to a halt. Includes fully laminated cover and 4-pages (LP-sized) coloured insert with bio, photos, lyrics and memorabilia.
Limited to 200 black copies, 180gr vinyl as usual.

On Friday 10 March 2023, Bhajan Bhoy releases TWO separate albums on the same day. These will be Bhajan Bhoy's third and fourth albums, and a joint release on highly respected independent labels Cardinal Fuzz (UK) and Feeding Tube Records (USA). Drawing from the deep triple bad acid well of psychedelia, Bhajan Bhoy further shifts the parameters surrounding the perceptions aligned to this genre with a beautiful and meditative set of tracks. A kaleidoscopic sonic universe within which you will find raga-esque musical excursions, meditative Dream House drone, beautiful folk inflected jams on a Laurel Canyon tip, electronic dreamscapes and heavy guitar riffola where sometimes two chords are enough. Listening to the two albums and you could imagine Pandit Pran Nath, Spacemen 3, Pauline Oliveros, and Don Cherry drinking the same psilocybin tea beforehand, and then embarking to the studio to lay down the jams. "Years in the making amidst multiple other projects, the third album by The Invisible Hands has finally seen the light of day. In 2014, just after releasing their second album 'Teslam,' The Invisible Hands met to begin recording their third album. But there was a problem: Alan Bishop had dozens of new songs to record and a slow-motion reality bi-product of this dilemma was that one new album became several new albums. Three of those were released under Bishop's Alvarius B. moniker ('With A Beaker On The Burner And An Otter In The Oven') in November of 2017. Although that triple LP featured many additional musicians, it was essentially part of a grander Invisible Hands project which began morphing into several new directions. Between October of 2014 and January of 2020, nearly 100 songs were recorded by various forms of the group. Many tracks have remained unreleased or unfinished. Final postproduction was completed on 'The Big Minute' in late 2022 and it features the premier studio versions of several original songs and most of the covers from the band's live repertoire (including 'Dirty Angels' by Ennio Morricone, 'Watchin' You' by Brainticket, and 'Black Orchid' by Sun City Girls). The first release from the new ITT archive reissue series is 2018's 'Autodidact.' Originally released on a 10" lathe cut by Ack Ack Ack Records in Feb 2018. Heres a bit about the record in Oli's own words: "I recorded the bulk of this record over a weekend in January 2018, in the midst of a very minor breakdown that was to last for pretty much the entire year. I was living in a big house all on my own, smoking too much and not really seeing any people. Happy days indeed. It was tracked in the back room of 97 Hambledon Road, Middlesbrough using two questionable microphones, a broken HH 100 amp, my friend's drums and a Tascam DP08 (that wasn't to see the year out, RIP 2009-2018) When I was done, Robbie came round and recorded a ton of violin drones through my amp and I remember feeling like I'd gone into a trance a few times, then Ben recorded his parts at home and sent them over. Mixed and mastered the same night - I released it myself a month later as a lathe cut 10" and then promptly moved on. I listened to the album for the first time in years to write this sleeve note and I think it is possibly the closest I've ever got to capturing the sound I hear in my head - I love how grubby and cavernous it sounds, claustrophobic and swirling - the track 'Autodidact' I have recorded 4 more times since this version and I've never got that sound back. It is a band effort too, with organic sounding drums, the characteristic saxophone, and droning synths. JENS - BE AS GOOD TO OTHERS AS THEY ARE NOT TO YOU
'Be As Good To Others As They Are Not To You' starts as a mystery. A piece of tangible vinyl with often transient and evanescent content; sound appearing and fading such that you can lose certainty as to whether it emanates from the record or from out in the street. The music measured and atmospheric; a rural psychedelia on the cusp between folk and country; gnomic lyrics, meditating on loss as a stage in the cycle of nature, with a strong impression of a patient, unforced gestation.
The sleeve has a stark beauty; the front being a fine piece of John Hurford frontier art, akin to that of Jeff Horsey's 'Rattlesnakes And Heartstrings.' There is no legend and nothing on the spine either. The back shows two rustic, bearded gentlemen with small guitar, a pump organ, and an ancient zither; there are song titles but they're barely decipherable.
This pair are Jens Unossun and Arne Jonasson. Jens is a founder member of The Spacious Mind, a notable Swedish ensemble who, for nigh on three decades, have been releasing memorable psychedelic music. They famously accompanied Tom Rapp, of Pearls Before Swine, at his Terrastock appearance in London in 1999. Jonasson is a regular collaborator with Jens on such side-trips as The Holy River Family Band. They're the sole performers on six of the eight tracks here; Jens singing and playing keyboards, Arne on various stringed instruments, and both adding percussion. The other two - 'Sweet Home Blues (Redneck Dumbfuck Blues)' and 'Green Was The Day (Bottom Of The Well)' - see them joined by the Head Country Hoedowners - Snosun and Aarnson Jones, Black Owl, and Dave Hell - and the presence of these acclaimed purveyors of outlaw mutation boogie signal changes in mood. The Jones Brothers also serve as producers and arrangers.

'Les Idoles' is a mythical record of sixties psyche rock prefiguring punk. A work which in style had no equivalent in France at the time. Thanks to the performance of the Rollsticks, a rock band created from scratch with musicians from different musical worlds, to accompany the erratic vocalizations of actors Pierre Clémenti, Bulle Ogier and Jean Pierre Kalfon. The band consists of Patrick Greussay (who became part of Calcium) on the drums and guitars, Stephane Vilar (who became part of Calcium, PLVG), Didier Léon (future accomplice of Barney Wilen), Didier Malherbe (who became part of Gong and Clearlight amongst other bands), Jacques Zins (who became part of Calcium) and with the participation of Yvan Julien (jazzman composer trumpeter and conductor) and Michel Portal (jazzman composer and saxophonist). The recording of this album is different from the album 'Les Idoles' published in 1967 under the reference CBS 62812, recorded in June 1966 in Barclay studios. The record company needed to make the record when the film was released to have the music recorded six months in advance, as it was practiced at the time. The unreleased recording offered today was made during the shooting of the film, in 1967 at the Davout Studio to use in the film.
During these sessions, the musicians really knew the repertoire inside out and the music is more intense, more powerful, which makes it very interesting. Made from master tapes found in the archives, this new album with the exception of 'Et Floc C'est La Tasse' and 'Chanson De L'Archevêque,' dispensable titles whose tapes have been definitively lost, includes practically the same titles as the 1967 album, but in different interpretations to which unreleased instrumentals have been added.

by solo sets from Suzuki and Tomo, which served as a kind of introduction, of sorts, to the broader aesthetic visions of two of the musicians on 'Suikyo.'

2018 album remastered and available on vinyl for the first time! "We all know that music moves in 'cycles'; a generation will discover, revisit and rework the music of a former generation. We've seen this happen on a regular basis with differing results. One of the most pleasing of these revisits sees contemporary bands look back to the early pioneers of electronic music, especially the Berlin scene of the seventies, and thus we see the likes of Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and Klaus Schulze becoming huge influences on modern music (it is fair to say, however, that these have long been major influences but now that influence is worn like a statement of intent). Add to this the rise in popularity of film soundtracks and a whole new generation becoming familiar with the likes of Fabio Frizzi, John Carpenter, Goblin etc etc and you have a heady brew of contemporary analogue music that treats these influences with the respect they deserve but add their own distinctive twist on affairs. That preamble leads to this album by Mutante, the pairing of Alec Wood and Jonathan Parkes, who you may know from their equally as excellent Korb project. Previously out in 2018 on CD and digital on Dreamlord Recordings, this wonderful slice of nostalgic electronica is receiving a well deserved vinyl outing courtesy of those fine dudes at Up In Her Room Records. Now, as a rule I do try, not always successfully, not to use the word 'cinematic' but in this case I'm just gonna have to... "Fans of the Kosmische sound rejoice as sonic pioneers Dom Keen and Jonathan Parkes return with another instalment of their essential record series. I found my way to Studio Kosmische via Parkes' Korb project. Whilst I am admittedly tardy to the party, I'm nonetheless smitten by the sounds your about to enjoy in the grooves of this here record. The album is split into two musical journeys across its two sides. 'The Rites Of Saturn' starts as a tribal dance before the song enters a black hole and the sounds of the cosmos permeate the speakers. We drift along for a spell enveloped in the calm of the never-ending expanse before emerging back where we started. The drums welcoming us back to the dance. I get lost in this track every time and it sends me running to the turntable to flip the record to continue the journey. Side B finds us 'Beyond The Circle Of The Fixed Stars.' This is what I'd deem a groovy little number. The minimal bass trades licks with the guitar before a synth line kicks in. Check out the drums by the way. Gloriously busy but never intrusive. They absolutely steal the show for me. Another journey of a track, it transforms before your ears into this mellow, pastoral acoustic jam. It really does feel welcoming and almost like a homecoming. If you've been following Studio Kosmische then you'll know the quality these guys produce. If, like me, this is your first foray then my dear listener you're in for a treat. Drop the needle in the groove and let Messrs Keen & Parkes take you on a sonic voyage 'Beyond The Circle Of The Fixed Stars.' ~Mark Anderson - Static Sounds Club.

"So many of the hugely influential bands of the late 1980s scoffed at the overproduced sounds of that decade (including scoffing at many bands that were looking back to the 1960s) and dug deeper into the raw side of the 1960s and previous (and provided so much influence for the decades that followed and the music of today), but while Dead Moon wasn't the only kick ass band from that era that looked back and charged forward, unlike the others, Dead Moon grew out of their own roots, as clearly revealed by these recording by the Weeds. Perhaps even more importantly, or even more accurately, these recordings show that Fred Cole always dug deep to deliver the raw truth. It didn't matter the era, Cole always cut straight through the bullshit and reached right into the source, delivered songs like the ones presented here, garage acid rock that burns like a branding iron into your heart." ~Winch (Green Noise). The 12" is a straight reissue of the 1968 LP (unfortunately originally released as The Lollipop Shoppe but now returned to the real name of the band). One 7" features artwork from the Weeds' 1971 single and contains the 4 songs released as The Weeds (originally on separate 7", one released 1971 and the other 1966 which includes cover of Them's 'Little Girl'). The other 7" features artwork from the 1968 Lollipop Shoppe 7" but since those two cuts were included on the LP, this features 4 other songs, 'Someone I Knew' and 'Through My Window' from the 1969 single, and 'Who's It Gonna Be' and 'Mr. Madison Avenue.'
Instead of pressing a double album that could have provided more material, this package was done intentionally to house all the essential cuts (and all the original artwork of the LP and 7" releases).

Blind Owl Wilson was a truly great guitarist and vocalist whose deep well of psychedelic blues songs were buried amongst the catalog of major label rockin' blues band Canned Heat. Blind Owl served as Canned Heat's guitarist and would chip in a song here and there as a front man. A couple of those songs became huge hits in the '60s - 'Going Up The Country' and 'On The Road Again'. Blind Owl's songs for Canned Heat stood in stark contrast to the bands blustery blues rock - his was a gentle and nuanced voice and the themes of his song were all about personal heartbreak, grasping for cosmic understanding, and ecological justice. Here we have an LP of Blind Owl's songs from Canned Heat's records - left to sit alone and take you somewhere unexpected. Blind Owl's personal vision quest can be heard throughout these songs. 'Renoir Of The Toys' is a deep dive into the world of Youri Kun, the nom de plume of Japanese guitarist, singer and
songwriter Hiroshi Nar. It follows a similar compilation,
'Unheld Ball,' released in 2022 on Japanese label Inundow; like that album, 'Renoir Of The Toys' draws from the rich catalogue
of outsider psych-garage and rock recorded by Youri Kun over the past two decades. Deeply wired into the history of Japanese underground music, Nar was a founding member of legendary
'70s outfit Datetenryu, and a member of both Brain Police (Zuno Keisatsu) and Les Ralllizes Dénudés (Hadaka No Rallizes), appearing on the latter's '77 Live.' After going to ground during the 1980s, Nar started making music with Niplets in the mid-'90s, and releasing music at a prolific pace in 2000 - an excellent run of (some times archival) CDrs on the Hello Goodbye Studio label, both solo, and with his groups Molls, Niplets and Port Cuss; an album on P.S.F. by Jokers, where he was joined by fellow Rallizes member Yokai Takahashi, and drummer Toshiaki Ishizuka (Brain Police, Vajra, Cinorama, etc.); and sixteen albums (and counting) as Youri Kun, for labels Gyunne Cassette, Inundow, and Hören. He's also fallen in with the Acid Mothers Temple crowd, guesting on a few of their albums, and recording a live set with Kawabata Makoto's Nishinihon trio. All Nar's music shares a deceptive primitivism; it moves with the simplicity of the best 1960s garage punk, but its edges are blurred and stretched, allowing for all kinds of weird, elliptical, and psychedelic moves to happen in its margins. His guitar playing on songs like 'Kakunin' (from 2011's 'Yamaimo Boogie') shimmies and slurs magnificently; 'Kurokami,' from 2012's 'Su,' has clanking six strings scrawling over loose, spaced-out synth; there are clunky psychobilly moves ('Oshiro No Ninjya'), spirited rave-ups for rattling organ and sputtering guitar ('Totsugeki'), and some lovely, drowsy, melancholy moments ('Sora'). The constant throughout is Nar's blues-blurred, drawling voice, as unique a tool as the non-idiomatic speak-sing styles of solo Syd Barrett, Jad Fair, or Dave E. McManus. There are also three Les Rallizes Dénudés covers here, where Nar locates the pop genius at the heart of songs like 'Shiroi Yoru' and amplifies this with his simple garage-reverential take on things. 'Renoir Of The Toys'
is yet more evidence that Hiroshi Nar was, and is, one of Japan's musical visionaries, a lonesome voice dedicated to a singular, streamlined vision, one that's in eternal pursuit of the joy and kicks at the heart of rock'n'roll, and a
reminder of what a great, unpretentious rock'n'roller truly should be.

The Brommers (also Brommerz) were a Dutch punk band, which existed from 1978-1981. After the EP 'Defekt' was recorded in December 1979 and released in 1980, the band performed regularly. A concert in the Paard van Troje (The Hague) was recorded for VPRO television. New studio recordings were made at Radio Nederland Wereldomroep in 1981, after which only two more concerts were given. This set consists of an LP and a 10-inch with previously unreleased demos, live and studio recordings made between 1979 and 1981, and both come on transparent vinyl in full-colour sleeves and heavy cardboard inner sleeves. Each set is packed in a silkscreen-printed and hand-sprayed cardboard box, together with four inserts and a download code. Neither trouble nor expense was spared and the band sounds better than ever before. This is the ultimate and final release of The Brommers! One time pressing of 500 copies.

UPSIDE - UPSIDE
Upside is a legendary hardcore/punk band from Sassuolo near Modena (Italy) that started in the early '80s and is still performing to this day. They were part of the scene that gave us bands like Stigmathe, Raw Power, Nabat, Dioxina, Cani, No Jap, Hydra, Stalag 17, RAF Punk... In 1983 they debuted on vinyl with 'Nati Per Soffrire' 7" but even before that they recorded the first demo tape with great songs that never came out elsewhere. Political punk verging on hardcore tinged with dark overtones, both musically and lyrically. Very critical, almost apocalyptic lyrics about society. Their music influences seem to merge early UK 82 stuff with Italian HC/punk of the time as well as '80s Finnish HC, although not as fast as most of their Scandinavian counterparts. If you liked the Link Lärm LP on No Plan records, this could be something for you as well. This LP gathers 10 songs (plus a hidden track) from the demo, remastered, for the first time on vinyl. Comes with a foldout 12" insert with band photos, lyrics, flyers and band's history in a deluxe 350 gr laminated cover printed on both sides.

2021 repress! Simply obliterating any conception of the Wipers as a mere punk band, Greg Sage released this follow-up to 'Is This Real?' in 1981 - a sophisticated, overwhelming response to the evil times marked by the turn of the decade. Broken up into six long songs, 'Youth Of America' is a much colder, harrowing experience than the teen angst of their debut. Vocally, Sage comes off as sleep-deprived and forsaken, snarling not only at
his own predicament but at the predicament of the entire world.
The centerpiece of the album is the title track, a dire ten minutes of paranoia and angst that gave Sage the space to showcase his wildest, darkest playing yet. As bassist Brad
Davidson and drummer Brad Naish hold the same hypnotic rhythm for the entire song, the guitar careens and swoops with such a frantic energy it seems as though it's the only thing keeping Sage alive in the maelstrom of sound. It's a fitting commentary that the exacting, post-punk legends Mission Of Burma and squalling, noisy thugs The Melvins both saw fit to cover the track. Completely remastered from the original tapes, pressed on audiophile vinyl, and housed in a heavy tip-on sleeve.

From 1985, the beginning of their collaboration in Amsterdam, Peter Bosch and Simone Simons have been involved in performances, concerts and theatre productions. Since 1990, however, they have focused in particular on the development of autonomous "music machines". All these machines are dynamic: sound and movement are constantly evolving. The 'Krachtgever' is their best-known piece for its Golden Nica, received at Prix Ars Electronica, Linz, 1998. The other projects on the LP are 'Cantan Un Huevo,' commissioned by the Ives Ensemble in 2000 and awarded in 2002 at the 29th edition of the International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sonic Art, Bourges, France, and one of their first installations, 'Was Der Wind Zum Klingen Bringt,' from 1989/90, shown in the Stedelijk Museum,
Amsterdam, 1990, as part of the exhibition 'Energieën,' and in 1991 at the Multimediale 2, Z.K.M., Karlsruhe. The LP demonstrates that sound produced by the Bosch & Simons music machines can also be listened to as autonomous "music."

Jens Brand has created a large number of installations, musical performances and Interactive Media works. He uses the concepts of parallel activities rather then ideas of fusion. The pieces presented on this recording focus on sonic events related to electronic music (such as intense volumes and dynamics, white noise, square or sine waves) but stay entirely acoustic. On a live performance of the ratchets, the sounds are generated with the idea of a physical, sculptural, yet invisible presence. It might happen that the body of a person moving around in the audience has more impact on the sound then the variations produced by instruments themselves. Limited to 300 copies.

Giovanni Di Domenico's "Zuppa Di Pazienza", recorded and produced in five months, has resulted in more thorough compositions. Using numerous analog keyboards at the Klangendum/Worm studio in Rotterdam, "Zuppa Di Pazienza" is entirely played by Di Domenico. The filed recordings and overdubs were recorded in a second session, without listening to the original version of the music. Di Domenico then edited the whole project. The result is a tingling of sound material around the main theme.

Dick Verdult, a.k.a Dick el Demasiado is the Philip K. Dick of multi-disciplinary art, the Moby Dick of "cumbia lunática", and the Charles Dickens of literature and experimental cinema. He first fell in love with cumbia when he heard his nursemaid singing the classic 'La Pollera Colorá'. From this moment on, he adopted the genre and reinvented it, in a perpetual degeneration called cumbia lunática, twisting up the elements of traditional cumbia, the "cumbia of the mucamas", to create an anarchotropical vertebral rhythm, one which supports every moving part. 'Celulitis Illuminati' is the powerful debut of the anarchotropical gentleman knight of the abstract, Dick el Demasiado, eight dangerous tracks recorded for the first time on vinyl, songs that, upon listening, will liposuck all that grotesque accumulation of adipose tissue out of buttocks and brain. They interweave an amalgam of South American folklore
and the cables of electronic music, the plugged-in Ranqueles indians, as in 'Asi Que Los Que Sí' ('So That Those Who Yes')
on Side A, surrealist and lugubrious beats, poetry made song and "the dead man's drool is good for painting watercolors", as he sings in 'Búho Sin Un Ratón' ('Owl With No Mouse'). Euphony that will abduct you away to a viscous street party with 'Son Cosas De Hoy' ('They're Things For Today') and to an eclectic and excessive dimension with 'Pero Bien Bweno' ('But Very Proper'). Side B is pure dynamite: 'Mecha Flan' ('Pudding Fuse'), 'Sábado Cultural' ('Cultural Saturday') and 'En La Jeta' ('In The Face') represent the perfect blend of Lucho Argain (La Sonora Dinamita) and Muslimgauze (Bryn Jones). As always with Bryn Jones, all material is inspired by Arab culture. We hear distorted dub rhythms, sawn-off loops, traditional music, male and female voices and then distorted rhythms again. Closing your eyes, you can find yourself in the middle of an eastern city, walk along its noisy streets, admire the ancient architecture. This noise can tell amazing stories!

These ephemeral experiences only last the time of an exhibition, an event, hence the need to document,
to embed the sound of these singular creations. After 'Composed Nature'/'Yokomono-Pro' in collaboration with Lola Landscape Architects (AM Editions, 2011), this record is the second "sonic photography" of Staalplaat SoundSystem, which gives us an idea of some of its works.

In 1972, trumpeter Baikida Carroll and some of his colleagues from the Black Artists Group(more precisely saxophonist/flutist Oliver Lake, trombonist Joseph Bowie, drummer Charles "Bobo" Shawand trumpeter Floyd LeFlore) took the advice of their friends in The Art Ensemble Of Chicago and left their native Missouri to come and discover the bright lights of Paris for themselves. The following year they would even get the chance to record their only album which would rapidly attain mythical status and a collector's item: 'In Paris, Aries 1973.' Therefore, it was not surprising that they crossed paths with Jef Gilson in the capital. He was always on the lookout for new artists for his recently formed Palm label and had been active on many fronts in jazz since the end of the '50s. The French bandleader/pianist/composer/sound engineer had already recorded, in the preceding months other American musicians who would go on to have great careers: Byard Lancaster, Keno Speller, Clint Jackson III, Khan Jamal... Gilson therefore offered Baikida Carroll the chance to record his first album under his own name, which would be the 13th release on the label. Carroll logically asked Oliver Lake to join him. He also recruited Manuel Villaroel, a young Franco-Chilean pianist from the group Matchi-Oul, who had already released an album on Futura in 1971 and would release another on Palm in 1976. The group was completed with the addition of Brazilian percussionist Naná Vasconcelos, who had just released a well-received album on the Saravah label. They were ready to enter the studio for the 3rd, 4th and 5th June 1974. The first side of the album is divided into two long tracks which send free jazz back to its long-lost African roots. The opener 'Orange Fish Tears' indeed rolls out a jungle of percussion of all sorts and sizes -the whole group is involved- which weave and mix together reaching a point where all bearings are lost, lending a sense of wonder to the majestic entry of the brass and woodwinds, flying suddenly out from the undergrowth. 'Forest Scorpion' (sic) is a real voodoo ceremony where a venomous percussive groove backs the fiery solos from keyboards and saxophone in a furious trance. A warning; after these two tracks listeners are physically and emotionally wiped out! The other side is more introspective. Deliberately using dissonance and repetition, 'Rue Roger' -the only composition by Oliver Lake- in a long dialogue between trumpet and saxophone, could almost remind us of Terry Riley in his favourite ballpark. 'Porte D'Orléans,' the fourth and final track on the album, has the group back to their old tricks in a long hallucinatory jam which owes as much to the contemporary music of György Ligeti as to the most angst-ridden Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack music (remember the heavy chords which beat through 'Planet Of The Apes'). With these two sides, and in under 45m, Baikida Carroll and his musicians show just what they can do, from cerebral to charnel without ever simplifying things. This is an essential album if you are a fan of free-wheeling avant-garde music from The Art Ensemble Of Chicago to Sonic Youth and including Shabaka Hutchings and Rob Mazurek. For those with good taste, in other words.

Ndikho Xaba left South Africa in 1964, an exile from his homeland who eventually found his place in San Francisco's vibrant spiritual jazz scene of the late '60s. A songwriter, bandleader, pianist, and inventor of percussion and woodwind instruments, Xaba played alongside contemporaries like Pharoah Sanders, Alice Coltrane, and Sun Ra. But it was on the single album he recorded in the US, self-released in an edition of 100 copies in 1971, that Xaba realized his unique vision. Backed by a band that included Plunky Branch and Lon Moshe (Oneness of Juju and Black Fire label), Xaba bridged the Black Atlantic, connecting the music of Africa with the most brilliant lights of the Diaspora, and drawing a line between the Black Power movement of the US and the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Across five songs, Xaba and the band move through spiritual invocations, wrenching soul, and dizzying layers of rhythm knocked out on homemade instruments. The album is a critical political and historical document, and one of our favorite spiritual jazz albums of all time. Licensed from Nomusa Xaba, Ndikho's partner, a poet, storyteller, album-cover artist, and namesake of the stunning track immortalizing her name. This is a reissue of the remastered 2015 release by Matsuli Music, pressed on 160gm vinyl, including booklet with rare photographs and concert bills, personal recollections from Plunky Branch, and extensive liner notes by Francis Golding and the great Thulani Davis, who was a part of Xaba's musical community.

The first-ever compilation of Xabagies, the nearly forgotten Hawaiian-influenced music of 1930s Greece, focused on the compositions of Kostas Bezos and his ensemble The White Birds. A world-class slide guitarist, political cartoonist and sleepless Bohemian, Kostas Bezos created some of the most unique music of any era: surrealist guitar portraits blending Athens and Honolulu, haunting tropical serenades, wild acoustic orchestras and heartbreaking steel guitar duets. Included are a 28-page booklet with extensive notes by Tony Klein and Dimitri Kourtis, unpublished photographs, lyrics, obituaries and a bonus CD containing 18 additional tracks. Mastered from original 78s, this release is limited to 1.000 copies.

Raï is the music of a youth hungover from Algeria's recent independence. It became a space for a liberated, transgressive dialogue that told the social truths of its time -- an up-front yet poetic voice that covers the taboos and frustrations of daily life, expressing emotion without detour. This voice is heard at weddings, cabarets, in the nightclubs of the Oranese coast, and casually on the street... With the boom of the audio cassette, an avalanche of raï tapes were produced in Oran and diffused all over the world. Both women and men sang and listened to the new sound, as raï is intimately tied to parties, alcohol and the night. With the spontaneous improvisation of its singers as the main part of each song, raï keeps reinventing itself. In this style, Cheb Hasni, along with Cheb Nasro, incarnates a second generation of musicians. With the "love raï", or sentimental raï, Hasni sings about love, passion and its setbacks -- moving away from the bittersweet daily chronicles of the first chebs and chebates. Having recorded nearly 150 cassettes, Cheb Hasni remains one of the most prolific and talented raï singers of his generation. Almost thirty years after his death, this three-volume compilation of rare tracks from his cassette releases on the Oriental Music Production label is a tribute to the lasting legacy of Cheb Hasni -- ya raï! The first volume of three is presented here. Limited to 700 copies on black vinyl.

Chaoui is a genre of Berber music that originated in the Aurès region of Algeria. It is a mixture of Saharan and Atlas mountain music marked with dancing rhythms. Lupe Victoria Yolí Raymond (23 December 1936-29 February 1992), better known as La Lupe, was a Cuban singer of boleros, guarachas and Latin soul, known for her energetic, sometimes controversial performances. 1961's 'La Lupe Is Back!' was her second LP on which she went one step ahead of her brilliant debut 'Con El Diablo En El Cuerpo' (Shellac Disc SHELLO11), incorporating several pop and rock'n'roll hits of the time to her repertoire, such as the Carole King/Jerry Goffin penned 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' which had been a big hit for The Shirelles or 'Lipstick On Your Collar' which had hit the R'n'R charts in the voice of Connie Francis, among others, all done in the unique Lupe style and adapted to Spanish.

SABREEN - DEATH OF THE PROPHET
"Those awaiting", the name chosen by the musicians of Sabreen, still rings true forty years after the foundation of this group in Jerusalem. Voice of the hopes as well as the anger of the Palestinian youth, this group has recorded four self-produced albums. With the weapons of poetry, they will embody the voices of resistance against the occupation but also the desire for emancipation from tradition. Emblematic of this state of mind, their second album 'Death Of The Prophet' was released on cassette at the beginning of the first intifada. It will be the soundtrack, while providing the tuning fork of the future generations. Whether meditative beaches or collective outbursts, joyful outbursts or more serious moments, the band goes through the range of feelings, drawing its inspiration from the sources of classical Arabic music and popular folklore. The result is a unique style, irreducible to any category. All that makes that forty years later, this cult album, never released on vinyl, remains very current. Including booklet with extended liner notes by Jacques Denis and rare photos.

'CANON SINGING IN CHINA, VIETNAM, LAOS' - Other-worldly Canon singing from Mien (Yao) hill tribes in China, Vietnam, and Laos. Raw, ethereal, and cosmic - for fans of Bulgarian choir music and Javanese court gamelan and Sundanese styles of vocal ascension. Although their name comes from a pejorative Chinese expression that means "dog" or "savage" - stemming from a legend that they were founded by a dog who saved the life of the daughter of a Chinese emperor and thus was rewarded with her hand in marriage - the largest branch of the Yao minority call themselves Mien, which means simply "people". They number 4 million and are spread over the southern Chinese provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Yunnan and also migrated to Vietnam, Laos and Thailand over the last centuries. Part of the Miao-Yao (Hmong Mien) group of the Sino-Tibetan ethnolinguistic family, they have many subgroups, usually defined according to colors of their traditional clothes.
Recorded and produced in the field by Laurent Jeanneau (Kink Gong), this limited edition LP comes with a two sided insert of photos and liner notes with extended track descriptions by Laurent Jeanneau.
