It wasn't until 1969 that Jimi Hendrix made his debut on American television. The first song he recorded was 'Hear My Train A Comin'', where he was backed by the Bobby Rosengarden Band. Drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Billy Cox joined Hendrix at a second transmission along with Juma Sultan on congas, when they cut versions of 'Izabella' and 'Machine Gun'. All these three tracks are available on this EP, along with an interview.

'Am I Dreaming?' is the 2023 album by the very prolific Finnish psych/space/kraut project Astral Magic that has been channelling psychedelic and spacey music from other dimensions since March 2020. 'Les Idoles' is a mythical record of sixties psyche rock prefiguring punk. A work which in style had no equivalent in France at the time. Thanks to the performance of the Rollsticks, a rock band created from scratch with musicians from different musical worlds, to accompany the erratic vocalizations of actors Pierre Clémenti, Bulle Ogier and Jean Pierre Kalfon. The band consists of Patrick Greussay (who became part of Calcium) on the drums and guitars, Stephane Vilar (who became part of Calcium, PLVG), Didier Léon (future accomplice of Barney Wilen), Didier Malherbe (who became part of Gong and Clearlight amongst other bands), Jacques Zins (who became part of Calcium) and with the participation of Yvan Julien (jazzman composer trumpeter and conductor) and Michel Portal (jazzman composer and saxophonist). The recording of this album is different from the album 'Les Idoles' published in 1967 under the reference CBS 62812, recorded in June 1966 in Barclay studios. The record company needed to make the record when the film was released to have the music recorded six months in advance, as it was practiced at the time. The unreleased recording offered today was made during the shooting of the film, in 1967 at the Davout Studio to use in the film.
During these sessions, the musicians really knew the repertoire inside out and the music is more intense, more powerful, which makes it very interesting. Made from master tapes found in the archives, this new album with the exception of 'Et Floc C'est La Tasse' and 'Chanson De L'Archevêque,' dispensable titles whose tapes have been definitively lost, includes practically the same titles as the 1967 album, but in different interpretations to which unreleased instrumentals have been added.

Previously completely unknown second, unreleased LP by pastoral English songsmith. Recorded in 1973 at the University of Surrey Music Department where Robert was a Guitar Degree Student. A kaleidoscope of beautifully sung, intense, impressionistic, self-composed songs. Some simply backed by his stunning guitar work, others with full chamber folk-rock backing. Heavily symbolic lyrics and deceptively sweet music, much of the imagery seems to anticipate his tragic early death, in his sleep, aged 19, just weeks before he graduated. Obvious comparisons can be made to Nick Drake and even Tim Buckley, but perhaps more sharply to early Al Stewart and with a strong resonance of Village Thing artists, especially Dave Evans' two classic LPs. Timeless, sharp, wistful and eccentric. A miracle this has survived. Fully laminated sleeve, NO BARCODE, features inner with full lyrics and insert with memories from his brother, designed by the immortal Bobby Blisters. Mastered by Reynolds Mastering, the kings of reconstruction and pressed on the old EMI presses by Vinyl Factory for maximum quality. As always pressing run limited to 227.

Another psych holy grail finally seeing the light of day. Oasis was an American rock band from Marin County, California active in the 1970s. They eventually morphed from the prog-folk ensemble R J Fox. Their self-titled debut album was released as a private press in 1973 by the Cranbus label in a small run of 150 copies, imagine that... The record was in fact never released in the States but only in Canada, such a mystery today. Coming from the west coast the band - led by female vocalist and eclectic piano player Sherry Fox - was certainly informed by local stalwarts (Ultimate Spinach and Jefferson Airplane may come to mind) but had certain similarities with the Allman Brothers country rock guitars and David Crosby vocal harmonies circa 'If I Could Only Remember My Name'. Not to mention the key jazz folk albums of Joni Mitchell. Here's a superb psychedelic folk rock manifesto, still fascinating and over the top, in the name of universal love.

CD reissue of one of the most desirable and elusive LPs of the British psychedelic era: 'The Love Cycle' by Forever Amber. This 1969 LP is a honeyed, melodic album, as intimate and irresistible as anything the Left Banke or The Zombies ever made, laced with perfectly-timed, dramatic fuzz-guitar violence. Created by six teenagers in Northern England, this sixteen song concept album follows the rise and fall of a summertime relationship. From the celebratory, deeply
harmonized opener 'Me Oh My' which first notices the "new girl on our street" to the pensive, haunted closing track, 'My Friend', which pleads and quivers with sorrow. The eight chapters retell the entire romance through a compelling combination of jangling guitars, graceful organ, and the singular earnestness of heartachey teenagers. Originally issued by the band in an edition of only 99 copies (to avoid the English tax levied on any record pressed in a quantity of 100 or more), the record has long stood at the top of many record collectors' lists, and in 2004 was listed at #73 in Record Collector Magazine's list of "The 100 Most Valuable Records of All Time" with a estimated market price of 1000 ($2000 U.S.D.). This reissue is a lavish, meticulous tribute to this
unique, heartfelt, lo-fi psych pop masterpiece.

In 1969, Angel Pavement linchpin Alfie Shepherd took time out from the groups hectic schedule to demo a concept album that hed written around his favourite childhood story, Kenneth Grahames The Wind In The Willows. Sadly Angel Pavement broke up before theyd had a chance to record the work, which was duly left to gather dust. Forty years later, Alfies homemade recording of the proposed album finally gains a long-overdue release. Taken from the original mastertapes, and bolstered by a clutch of similarly unissued home demos from the same timeframe, The Wind In The Willows is now revealed as one of the great lost projects of the late 1960s, a thrilling psychedelic pop song-suite bursting with melodic invention, ambitious vocal arrangements and the boundless spirit of adventure that characterised the era.

The Beatles returned to the BBC Paris Studio on May 1st 1964 for the third of their four 'From Us To You' specials, that would be broadcast later that month. Three of the 10 songs played were by their favourite rockabilly star Carl Perkins. 'Honey Don't' was later recorded for the 'For Sale' album with Ringo on vocals. On this version, however, John sings the lead. 'Sure To Fall' was never committed to wax and features a ska break on the bridge, just like they played on 'I Call Your Name'. This EP spins at 33rpm.

Last copy! In 1991 Andy Warhoofd was in the middle of his addiction to ancient Dutch languaged beat and rock n roll records and wanted to make an attempt to create something similar himself. As he knew the Breda King of Ping-Pong-recording Bob Geldwolf it was just a tiny step to move into more serious grounds. In 1991 for half a year every Wednesday Andy Warhoofd went to Bob's apartment to record and drink beer (Grolsch beugels) while Bob used all kindsa chemical substances to broaden his mind and vision and to make the recordings even more outstanding than they would have become just drinking flat water. They both played all instruments and Andy did all the vocals. All in all 16 songs were recorded. As the guys were friends with the Sufgerukte Wallies and Belgian comedian Herr Seele they were asked to do some gigs. De Kikker in Utrecht, the Democrazy in Gent, Para in Breda and the Noorderlicht in Tilburg were the venues that saw these now classical performances. Sadly much too fast the two personalities arrived at a point there was only a turning back and they both went their way. Bob sadly took Vitamin B instead of XTC in 1999 and died. Around the same period Andy Warhoofd disappeared while walking through the Mastwood in a parallel universum, never to be seen again. Luckily their recordings survive and Grey Past Records are proud to hereby announce the official first ever and last ever release of the debut album of the Comcommers. Only 250 numbered copies as it is music for the happy few that want to cross all borders of good taste end real rudimentary musicianship! Music ranges from straight Floydian Barret psych ('Mijn Leven Is Niet Van Jou') to strange postpunk ('Ontevreden') to all kindsa odd tunes going as far out as you can get with Dutch languaged rock. If you loved the 'Biet-Het' series you sure should try this. When you listen think of what might have become of this great band if ever...

First ever vinyl release of a CD only 1993 release by prolific Dutch indie band the Four One & Only's, crossing the borders of garage, indie, psych, folk, punk, anarchy and weirdness in a still unique way. The LP comes in a gatefold sleeve with insert and gimmick sticker. The music was produced by Joseph James Foster and Stephen Parfitt in Rugby, UK. The sleeve art is by Berend Vonk. In the liners you can read about the disastrous trip to the UK, the band destruction sleeping in a 24 hour party people house, the destruction of the master tape in the mastering facility, the disappearance of the bass-player, the CD which was mastered from a cheap copy cassette and which sounded like totall shit... breathtaking. All sounds are re-edited at Studio 195 with Patrick Delabie. Now these cleared sounds show a band escaping the UK and US influences and creating a sound of their own. Indie, underground and very Dutch. In 1993 it must have been the unhippest record of the year as it stood outside everything happening those days. But now it just might fall in the right place and time. Very danceable tunes mixed with weird rhythms. Punky, garagey, folkey, psychedelic. Songs about seals and Armageddon. A classic. 300 copies.

Debut LP of the electro punk group Disco In The Disco. Thijs Janssen, Christiaan Overal and Thijs Bruurs are the band members. They play a smorgasbord of electronic instruments, among others guitars, synthesizers, drum computers and diverse sophisticated peripheral equipment. Most vocals are handled by Christiaan Overal, guitar by Thijs Janssen and Thijs Bruurs as little as he can possibly get away with. The vision was born by sheer chance in Christiaan Overal's brain and it soon became clear that the concept of Disco In The Disco was too great for one person to manage. So he went looking for reinforcements. Finally, after four tedious rounds of auditioning, Thijs Janssen and Thijs Bruurs remained standing. The fact that actually settled the matter, was that Christiaan then had only one name to remember. And ever since then they have remained the super formation of Disco In The Disco, inexhaustibly creating sublime danceable electro punk-rock. Their lack of virtuosity is abundantly compensated by their good looks and slick dance moves. On this, their debut album they will introduce you to what they are capable of: a contagious cocktail of Neue Neue Welle, electro wave, punk and current modern influences. The first edition of 300 LPs is on yellow vinyl.

The long-running and infamous project known as Nurse With Wound - essentially Steven Stapleton joined by a rotating cast of characters - mixes the overly serious chin-scratching of the contemporary avant-garde with a healthy dose of absurdist
humour and wit. Often unfortunately branded with the industrial tag, Stapleton's music actually reflects elements of musique concrète, ambient and free improvisation juxtaposed against more traditional forms. No one pigeonhole can adequately describe this diverse and immense catalogue: only by diving in can one truly appreciate the varied sonic possibilities of Stapleton's unfettered imagination. He's that weird, and he's that good. In the mid 1980s, Nurse With Wound existed as a live band for only eight shows, of which only five were in front of an actual audience. 'Live At Bar Maldoror,' released in
1991, documents these various live incarnations and makes up the first CD of this two-disc set. Having been remastered by Andrew Liles, the diverse and lengthy pieces (which were actually recorded in disparate locales, none of which are named Bar Maldoror) sound rather contemporary. Sparse percussion, tape manipulation, loops, noise, dark drones, improvised semi-musical instrumentation and strangled glossolalia all expose the many facets of Stapleton's oeuvre. In 2023, as part of the silver editions, Rotorelief Records released 'Bar Maldoror' as a double vinyl album, a luxurious gatefold with 4 panels of artwork by Babs Santini.

It happened in 1987, it was time for Materiali Sonori's 10th anniversary, an historic goal for the label/collective born in the small Tuscany village of San Giovanni Valdarno. The series was intended as symbolic sound postcard, made with various musicians with whom the collective label shared a path, whether small or long. RASHOMON is the solo project of Matt Thompson, bassist and keyboardist of Cineploit artist ZOLTAN and cosmic synth act CREMATOR. 'The Cameraman's Revenge' is the 4th release under the Rashomon name, and the first on Cineploit. The earlier Rashomon albums were a mix of experimental pieces and music influenced by film composers, and with time the music has developed in a purely cinematic direction. The music on 'The Cameraman's Revenge' was composed as two long soundtrack pieces to accompany silent movies by Russian filmmaker Ladislaw Starewicz. 'The Cameraman's Revenge' itself is an early surrealist masterpiece from 1912, in which Starewicz animated the corpses of dead insects to tell a tale of infidelity and revenge. The soundtrack is a carnival-esque tour-de-force of folk-concrete, utilising harmoniums, jawharps, vintage synthesisers, an array of oddball percussion and more. 'The Mascot' (1933) is a bizarre and disturbing film for children, and Rashomon's soundtrack reflects this darkness with shifting drones, ominously melodic waltzes and minimalist organ fugues over the course of its 25 minute length. On the DVD that comes with the vinyl both films are featured, accompanied by Rashomon's music. 180 gram vinyl. DVD in papersleeve. Limited to 500 copies.

Thelema was founded in summer 1994 with the goal to produce independent sound compositions. Hans Jürgen, musician and sound engineer, places his main focus on the different tone qualities of the instruments, and uses variety as a means of expression for each song he creates. Four great individuals digging deep between ancient African rituals and modern urban multidimensional grooves. A tribal ecstatic sound based on a multitude of instruments: reeds, bamboo flutes, didgeridoo, trombone, conch shell, panpipes and a sea of percussion. A beautiful example of AACM 'Ancient To The Future' aesthetic. A magic mixture of elements from the African American music continuum.

This is the one and only Rahsaan Roland Kirk caught live in Paris in 1970 with one of his best lineups ever. A distinctive quintet featuring Ron Burton on piano, bassist Vernon Martin, drummer great Jerome Cooper, mostly known as member of the mythical Revolutionary Ensemble, and the colourful percussion work of Joe Habao Texidor. Rahsan displays a fine set list including original compositions like the anthemic 'Voluntary Slavery' and a wide selection of standards, from Cole Porter to Stevie Wonder, as inspirational material for infectious, groovy improvisations in front of a very receptive Parisian audience, all this at the very dawn of the seventies.

Flutist Prince Lasha and alto saxophonist Sonny Simmons were one of the great teams in the "New Thing" era. Recorded in New York in May 1963 these early studio sessions feature great contributions from trumpeter Don Cherry and tenor sax giant Clifford Jordan, plus the rhythm section of Orville Harrison and Bill Wood on bass, Charles Moffett on drums, and producer Fred Lyman on flugelhorn. This is a great snapshot of the NYC music scene in the '60s, when a bunch of young, creative, uncompromising musicians invaded the city and began to change the rules of jazz.

Recorded live on tour in Germany in 1986, here we have "Mystery Mr. Ra" leading a quite rare tentet version of the Arkestra featuring the historical reed section of John Gilmore, Marshal Allen, Eloe Omoe, Danny Ray Thomson and James Jackson, plus trombonist Tyron Hill and an electric rhythms section featuring Marvin "Boogaloo" Smith on drums. This is a beautiful document from an era when Ra, in addition to his usual sound explorations and space hymns, began to introduce a good number of jazz standards (Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn...) along with some exquisite jump-blues originals.
