A natural process: coming together through affection, then slowly crystallising into a folk-rock-psych-pop- collective slowly pushing, bending then playing with any preconceived notions of pop. Friends first and foremost, its this kindred spirit that imbues the bands debut with a feeling unlike that of most releases - one of natural harmony, persistent progression and with a panoramic gaze fixed on distant settings. Their 2009 debut album has received unanimous critical acclaim worldwide. This is their follow up a new mini-album with an all-encompassing sonic soundscape of groovy electric folk rock, psychedelic pop and heavy jams. The core musicians in The Amazing are Christoffer Gunrup, Reine Fiske, who doubles as the lead guitar wizard in Dungen and whos solos so furiously its as if somethings trapped inside him that must be turned into melody or hell burst into flames, Johan Holmegard (who doubles as the drummer in Dungen too) and Fredrik Swahn. With special guests including some of Swedens finest musicians; Gustav Ejstes (Dungen) and Moussa Fadera (Life on Earth!) amongst others, nothing on Wait for a light to come is introverted or overworked - everything is balanced, kept together by natural melodies, soulful vocals and just how perfect should be. DELIRIUM - DOLCE ACQUA
Delirium came from Genova, from a previous beat band called I Sagittari, and formed in 1970, releasing their first single a year later. Canto di Osanna, presented at first Viareggio pop festival was a successful single and gave the band an immediate notoriety. They had also won a Radio Montecarlo rock contest in 1971. First album, Dolce acqua, also from 1971 contains a good and original mix of prog, jazz and some tuneful melodies, the leading role of singer Ivano Fossati is evident, with his furious flute soloing being one of the band's most distinctive elements. The album, housed in a nice triple gatefold cover, is structured in various movements like a classical suite, but here and there some parts seem a little incoherent with the whole LP. DELIRIUM - LO SCEMO E IL VILLAGGIO
After their first album, Dolce Acqua, from 1971 and their memorable TV presence at Sanremo music festival gave around mid-1972 Ivano Fossati suddenly had to leave Delirium for his military service, later to pursue a solo career that's still successful today, even with a lighter (but always full of jazzy and ethnic influences) kind of music. His replacement was Englishman Martin Frederick Grice (from Boomerang) who, along with the ever present flute, was also a brilliant sax player. With this renewed line-up they released their second album, Lo scemo e il villaggio, still with some jazz influences and a stronger use of sax by the new member Grice, with the evident lack of a role singer in the band, all members taking the lead singer role. The track La mia pazzia is the closest to first album's style. 180g vinyl, gatefold cover. |

Originally released by Edigsa in 1972, the sophomore album by this great outfit led by Jordi Sabatés (Ocells del més enllà) took their jazz rock fusion sound one step further, diving deeper into the realms of seventies intrumental jazz. At the dawn of the seventies Barcelona's underground scene veered towards a jazz oriented fusion sound with echoes of Gary Burton, Miles Davis and John McLaughlin. Two bands were at the forefront of this movement: Om and Jarka. The later being the brainchild of Jordi Sabatés, one of the most talented pianists/keyboardists in the Catalan scene. A generation younger than the great late Tete Montoliu, with whom he also recorded, he found fame on the teenage pop charts of the late sixties with the outfit Pic-Nic, where he joined forces with Toti Soler and Doro Montaberry. After the split of Pic-Nic, he collaborated Hammond organ in Om, when the band was acting as a backing group on the recordings of the top Catalan artists, most notably Pau Riba whom they backed in his masterpiece debut LP Dioptria. In 1971, Sabatés started his own band, together with bassist Alfonso de Lucas and drummer Pedro Van Eeckout (ex Pan Y Regaliz). This was the line-up that went to record their debut LP, Ortodòxia, on the famed Estudis Gema in March 1971. Housed in a wonderful black & white sleeve courtesy of Guillem Paris (leading force behind Pan Y Regaliz), the record was a solid slice of psychedelic jazz-rock and featured contributions from some of the best musicians from the Barcelona scene: Toti Soler, J. Albert Amargos, Doro Montaberry and Ricard Sabatés. Hardly known outside Spain, this is classic album that ranks amongst the best from the European underground of early 1970s. Jordi Sabatés has been one of the most prolific artists from Catalunya and his solo career after Jarka has gained him a wide reputation amongst collectors, mainly thanks to his 1975 LP Ocells del més enllà, but also to his other great albums of the era. No.6 on Julian Cope's list of top 50 Japanese albums. Pressed on 180g vinyl. Fully remastered. Numbered limited edition. Gatefold with original artwork. Contains original illustrated LP lyric insert. There were several progressive psychedelic groups in Japan in the early 70s including the short-lived Love Live Life + 1. The band played a few live gigs and released this lone album before disbanding. The group consisted on 9 musicians and the "Plus One" seems to refer to vocalist Akiri Fuse who had been a pop vocalist since the mid-60s and appearing on albums since 1967. Most of the musicians were obscure except for keyboard player Hiro Yanagidawho was a member of the highly acclaimed Foodbrain and later Strawberry Path whose album When The Raven Has Come To Earth was released the same year of Love Will Make A Better You, and guitarist Kimio Mizutani who was in the band People that released the massively rare Ceremony - Buddha Meets Rock. Love Live Lifes only record is a mix of blues-based psychedelia that pushes into progressive and even avant-garde realms at times, while the skronky sax playing even recalls the edgier end of the jazz spectrum. An original, innovative and extremely rare piece of Japanese psychedelia. |

Om -led by superb Catalan guitarist Jordi Toti Soler after his previous band Pic-Nic split- were one of the most interesting outfits to ever come out from Barcelona. Starting in 1968, their first recordings were done as a backing group for other artists like folk-singer Maria del Mar Bonet or american hippie Joe Skladzien, but most notably Pau Riba whom they backed on his debut LP the legendary Dioptria, one of the finest pieces of European psych ever. During all their early work, the band benefited from the organ playing of one of the most talented catalan pianists, Jordi Sabatés (of Ocells del més enllà fame) as well as the musical talents of two English brothers: drummer Peter Hodgkinson and his brother Tim on sax and keys (this is, of course, the same Tim Hodgkinson who founded Henry Cow, together with Fred Frith). By the time they released their LP on Edigsa in 1971, Om was already an experienced band, with important studio work on their back and countless gigs, having backed American blues-man Taj Mahal in his Madrid 1969 concerts. One particularity of Om was that, rather than having an established line-up, they worked as a musical concept where it was not so important the individuals playing as it was the resulting sound. Their only LP shows how, through the works of Miles Davies, Gary Burton and John McLaughlin, they had developed their sound from its original psych/folk-rock beginnings to an intensely psychedelic jazz rock fussion. A classic album that is hardly known outside Spain and ranks amongst the best of the era, sharing shoulders with similar underground European experiments by Min Bul, Colhemec Ensemble, Xhol, Dharma Quintet, Sunbirds, Full Moon Ensemble or the more progressive output of the British jazz of the era: John Surmans Trio, Nucleus or Michael Gibbs. SPEED, GLUE & SHINKI - EVE
Ex-Foodbrain guitarist Shinki Chen, bass player Masayayoshi Kabe (also know as M Glue) and Phillipino Vietnam war veteran Joey Pepe Smith, who doubled as both the trios drummer and vocalist, released two legendary albums in the early 70s. Eve, the earlier of the bands two efforts, was probably the bands only "real" recording as the self-titled 2nd release in 1972 was put together by Smith from studio outtakes of Chens guitar playing and tracks omitted from Eve. Eve is a bluesy, psychedelic album, with Chens Hendrix-style guitar playing firmly underpinned by Smiths insistent percussion style modelled on the playing of his idol, Ginger Baker. The band dissolved immediately after the release of Eve as the other two members found Smiths drug-fuelled lifestyle (he was a huge fan of amphetamines and diligently applied himself to establishing a prodigeous habit) decidedly unappealing. Chen decided he didnt want to record again, and became a successful live artist, Joey went back to the Philippines and started the power trio Juan de la Cruz Band, and Masayoshi Kabe would win fame with the band Pink Cloud. In spite of their short-lived activity, Speed, Glue and Shinki were important, first and foremost as pioneers of the Japanese psychedelic rock scene. |

Special 'card-wallet' edition. Featuring the original die-cut cover with coloured cellophane and printed inner bag. 1000 only numbered limited edition. When Moon Blood was originally released in 1971 only 200 copies were pressed so originals are worth a small fortune. Fraction, with vocalist Jim Beach bearing an uncanny resemblance to Jim Morrison (although he was singing on Sunset Strip long before Morrison took to the stage), were often compared favourably with the Doors, although their quasi-religious message would probably not have found favour with the recently-departed Morrison. Indeed, this rather fine record was once famously described as the album the Doors probably wished theyd made! Underpinned by guitarist Don Swansons superb Ritchie Blackmore-style guitar work, this is an album full of beautiful psychedelia, acid and hard rock, at once emblematic of the era but not dated by its association. The five original compositions are consistently of the highest quality and the contribution of Beachs Morrison-esque vocals places a stamp of originality on the recording that endures from beginning to end. Legendary UK psych outfit Infinity formed in 1969 from the ashes of 'Chocolate Soup' psych faves the Flies and Cymbaline. The mission: to develop a heavy psychedelic/pop sound, and express it through complex original songs. Thanks to some funky Hammond organ, punchy guitars, and the band's unique harmonies, Infinity were no run of the mill outfit. Upon their return to mainland England from a residency in Jersey, they joined the high-profile NEMS agency, alongside heavy hitters like Pink Floyd, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Soft Machine, and Pretty Things. In late 1969 and early 1970, following support slots with The Searchers and Marmalade, Infinity recorded original material for a proposed album, which was meant to explore time, space, matter, energy and chicken phal, said in some circles to be so hot in a culinary sense that it's temperature approached infinity, or so they have said, with tongue-in-cheek, we have to believe. Sadly, they broke up soon after the sessions. The good news is that the band left behind the recordings presented on this disc, which can now be enjoyed in the digital format after the passage of more than four decades! Following on from the gutsy blues-rock groove of the bands first and probably only genuine studio release, Speed, Glue & Shinkis second release, often referred to as "Tiger" brought together a number of tracks not included on Eve, as well as some new recordings that took a very different musical slant. Joey Smith decided that as he could he handle himself admirably on drums, it was time to challenge a new instrument so he bought a synthesizer. Drafting in friend Mike Hanopol to take over the bass-playing duties from the departed Masayoshi "Glue" Kabe, Smith managed to produce an album of two halves, the first being some of the strongest SGS-esque material ever, the second being some fine electronic instrumentals in the Tangerine Dream mode. Following the release of the album Smith and Hanopol flew back to Manila to become Filipino superstars, while Shinki eschewed the recording of his music in preference to live recordings and Kabe found alternative employment in the highly popular band, Pink Cloud. However, the bands legacy lives on in "Tiger" , a compendium of the sound of Eve and a taste of where the band might have gone had time, personalities and huge amounts of illicit drugs not exerted their influences. |

Every evening she and David walked further in to the woods to an old rowing boat that lay on the edge of a forest lake. In the light of the magically ever glowing Swedish summer midnight sun they paddled across the lake and then further along a forest creek with lush green trees that hangs down over the fresh running water and water lilies. This is the kind of set and setting where you travel into another world..and they did. The initial recordings were made under a vaulted blue ceiling with gold stars in the old 15th century timber church of Hjulsjo, Sweden. The new album is filled with delicious and bewitching watery woodland folk hymnals, eloquent yet eerie. After their world-wide and unexpected hit with Time of the Season, the somehow announced death of the Zombies, who had indeed already disbanded, was put off by an attempt at prolonging this success. Using new Odyssey & Oracle era recordings, and rescuing some old Decca Out-takes and Demos, a new album was prepared for release. Unfortunately the album never saw the light; instead, a couple of singles were released, and the rest of the album was discarded... until some of the material featured here was released in several compilation albums during the 70s and the 80s, much to the astonishment of Zombies fans. This is the first time that the album is released in the way it was conceived. Unlike much of the "unreleased" material of other bands, the content of the LP matches the published work of the Zombies, in terms of song-writing and production, confirming the talent of one of the most influential bands of the sixties. Nearly 10 years after the memorable collaboration between MZ.412, IDPA, and COLUMN ONE and recorded at the event of the Collapse Festival, held in Rostock, Germany, comes a document of this event. What you hear is a manifestation of opposites, the submerging into the alternate universes of the collaborators, bound to a closed auditorium. Distorted screams, noise loops and sound manipulations meet bells, field recordings, natural sounds, piano passages and harmonious arrangements. A claustrophobic scenario, this 24-minute piece comprises the live-action in its entirety. The other Side of this album marks the return of COLUMN ONE after a 2-year hiatus and is a monument of power - a radical clean slate. The first 15-minute piece (Shake Hands with Mr. Ringling) was recorded in Berlin with various classical musicians and evolves from an open electro-acoustic space into a massive orchestral drone, comparable with Organum, Penderecki, Hermann Nitsch, or NWW. The second piece (Voodoo Bumble Bee), based on a loop from the 1920s, marches forth as a tiny, amusing machine. Limited, numbered edition of 412 copies. |
