Long whispered about by the most inner circle of obsessive psych collectors, but up till now heard only by a lucky few. A true legend for sure, and rightfully so, as the bizarre story surrounding the LP is nearly as twisted as the music itself. Ex-Road Runners drummer Stephen David Heitkotter recorded and pressed the LP in California sometime before 1971 as a demo only edition of no more then two dozen copies in blank white covers, then distributed it only to a handful of local San Joaquin radio stations before the pressing plant destroyed the masters due to non-payment. Within months of his failed attempt at radio stardom Stephen was committed to the state mental ward, and that was that... but what an album he left behind...Deeply damaged outsider/real people westcoast basement loner acid-garage-blues from a genuinely insane person, recorded at the very edge of oblivion. The sound of a last gasp at the teetering edge of the darkest void. A murky disjointed trip wobbling between acid-scorched un-reality and pure all-encompasing blankness...Full electric band setting, but whether this was a purely solo endeavor or an actual band recording will remain a mystery forever. those close to stephen at the time swear he was already too far gone to assemble even a jam session, so the solo theory seems likely, making the musical deconstruction meltdown that much more disturbing. semi-tight playing disintegrates into meandering sonic smear at every turn, then somehow resolidifies and churns onward while bent deadpan vocals funnel garbled surrealisms from nowhere to nowhere. The scarily hyper-real yet ultra-weird otherworldly presence is as thick as it comes, and only enhanced by the raw/crude/muffled recording fidelity... Their 2nd album ha Shake Heartbreak' featured a more diverse mix of influences, compared to their debut album outh and Young Manhood', which was more in the straight-forward garage rock / southern rock area. ha Shake Heartbreak' shows the band flirting with acoustic guitars, some latin- styled ingredients and heavy twin-guitar riffs. Producer Ethan Johns (known for Ryan Adams, Ben Kweller a.o.) handled the producers' knobs again and used the Abbey road mixing desk for this job. Eventually, the album was ranked #39 on Rolling Stone's Top 100 Albums of the Decade. The album originally contained 12 songs, but some countries (U.K., Japan) issued a CD bonustrack "Where Nobody Knows". The vinyl edition of the album was a limited 2x10" lp, which has been out of print for some time. 0337934 LP ANNA 26 2090503379343 ANNA LOGUE	LISFRANK - MASK REWIND (+7") LISFRANK was an obscure one-man project from Savona area, Italy, active from 1980 onwards but not releasing much music ever since apart from a few tracks via the own Mask Productions label in 1982 and 1983. The first and only LISFRANK stand-alone release was the 12"EP "Man Mask" (Mask Productions, MKX 01, 1982), definitely one of the best and rarest early 80s minimal electro 12"s ever and on top of most want lists ever since, including the super hit "Its Life", as well as "Violence in my Mind". "Man without Limits" appeared on the labels equally rare and sought-after vinyl LP sampler "First Relation" (Mask Productions, MKLP 02, 1983). Another very experimental track called "Ombre" was released on the cassette compilation "The Voice/La Voce" (Area Condizionata AC2, 1983). That was the official story so far, even though LISFRANK was truly a pioneering project with a live appearance at the so-called "New Wave Party" in Savona, already in November 1980! So they were almost as early as Florentine stars Neon. Anyway, it took Anna almost a lifetime to track down LISFRANK, but with the key hint by Fulvio Delprato (thank you so much again!), he was finally found and convinced to release an album which has been entitled "Mask Rewind". It captures the majority of available recordings from 1980 onwards. LISFRANKs music is completely analogue electronics with drum machine (or real drums on two tracks), very unique and each a track a classic of its own kind. The early tracks until 1983 are rough and dark, and form the 12" album together with similar early composed but later recorded tracks thus creating an overall and coherent dark atmosphere throughout the whole album. As the 1984/85 tracks "Stay with me" and "My Toy" were more pop-oriented they didnt perfectly fit to the albums atmosphere and were thus put onto the accompanying 7". The deluxe 2LP vinyl album comprises 16 tracks of which 14 have never been published before. "The Echoes Fade" and "Voice" are the original versions taken off their original 7" from 1982. The album "The Echoes Fade" cannot be described other than being a masterpiece and one of the best-ever early 80s electropop records ever, and it surely has to be lined up with Rational Youth or Experimental Products cult albums (in terms of being minimal synth/wave scene reference albums), but to be frank, Anna thinks that POEME ELECTRONIQUE were even above their level. Truly, they had deserved to go on the successful path like Depeche Mode, OMD or Soft Cell, but fate was against them as it seems. The main difference to other electropop groups of the time was definitely that Dave did not only master his synths technically-wise, no, he also knew how to actually play, and when you hear his amazing multi-track manual sequencing, programming skills, great harmonies and melodies throughout the tracks, along with the two girls performances - well they can really sing! - you will agree there is some something remarkably extraordinary in these tracks. Moore's quavering voice calls to mind Mark Bolan and Dvendra Banhart, and his guitar work is subtly virtuostic. Though best known for what Acid Archives calls the "scary jump into the abyss" of the radical cover of The Beatles' 'A Day In The Life, it's the original compositions by Moore and Andy and John Davis full of the kind of raw emotion and sadness totally missing from music today that make this worth checking out. Soleilmoon wanted a 12-inch single that DJs could play in nightclubs. The idea was to introduce MUSLIMGAUZE to a potentially enormous new audience. Two weeks after agreeing to record a disco album for Soleilmoon, Uzi Mahmood was delivered to the label. But instead of the agreed on two or three tracks, he sent an eleven song compact disc, followed a week later by a 90-minute digital audio tape containing the entire CD plus two more pieces. Four songs were eventually selected for the experiment, and in the spring of 1998 a dirty-and-dubby 12-inch EP was released. Two more songs were later used to replace a pair of corrupted tracks on the master tape for Hussein Mahmood Jeeb Tehar Gass, released on CD in 1999. The music was well received by fans, but the hoped-for dance floor revolution never happened, and the little record with the unconventional beats went out of print a few years later. Fast forward to the present: The year is 2009 and the four-song EP has been out of print for more than five years, seven more songs lie waiting in the vault, still unreleased, and the two tracks tacked onto Hussein Mahmood Jeeb Tehar Gass are the only ones in wide circulation. The common goal of the trio was to create old school, heavy, emotional music different from their former bands and so traditional Doom Metal was the only logical consequence.
