The combination of Howard Werths vocals and Keith Gemmells versatile use of sax, flute and clarinet is just immediately highly fascinating. 0309190 LP TIME 710 TIMELESS	BOBAK/JONS/MALONE - MOTHERLIGHT Known by the name of an album rather than the name of the group, Motherlight produced an album full of spooky psychedelia with progressive leanings, which works really well. Almost all tracks have a slightly unsettling atmosphere, originating in a clever use of dissonance, without being quirky. On A Meadow - Lea has good fuzz guitar paired to pastoral lyrics, while Mona Lose bears overt traces of malice. Burning The Weed sounds quite surprisingly akin to US Kaleidoscope. 0306047 LP TIME 700 TIMELESS	BONZO DOG DOO-DAH BAND - GORILLA The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (also known as The Bonzo Dog Band, The Bonzo Dog Dada Band and, colloquially, as "The Bonzos") are a band created by a group of British art-school denizens of the 1960s. Moving over to Liberty Records, the Bonzos released their first album, Gorilla, that included "Jazz, Delicious Hot, Disgusting Cold" which savagely parodied their early "trad" jazz roots and featured some of the most deliberately inept jazz playing ever recorded. The record company only allowed two hours of studio time per track, so it was completed in a single take to allow for the far more complex "The Intro and the Outro" in which every member of the band was introduced and played a solo, starting with genuine band members. Redolent with the spirit of such high priests of effects and delay as Loop, Spacemen 3, and My Bloody Valentine, not to mention a fair dollop of the Jesus and Mary Chain . Methodrone clearly is the sum of its influences. Thankfully BJM does a very solid job with them throughout the album's course of over 70 minutes. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. One of the key eccentrics of the period and a successful collaborative lyricist for Cream ("I Feel Free," "Sunshine of Your Love"), poet/percussionist/vocalist/trumpet player Pete Brown was one of the many artists to arise from the British beat movement in the mid- to late '60s. Once he broke up with Graham Bond, Brown helped form the Battered Ornaments, hoping to work with musicians whose skills didn't dwarf his own. The group fell in line with prog artists like Syd Barrett, Deep Purple, and Roy Harper. STRANGELY STRANGE - HEAVY PETTING Dr. Strangely Strange were an experimental Irish folk group formed in Dublin in 1967 by Tim Booth (vocals and guitar) and Ivan Pawle (bass and keyboards).Soon they teamed with multi-instrumentalist Tim Goulding (vocals and keyboards), an aspiring painter, and began living and rehearsing in a house owned by Goulding's girlfriend, Orphan Annie, which its tenants nicknamed "The Orphanage." This follow-up album is a little more electric than their 1st, but almost equally eccentric in the best possible way. The sound is rather different but is also tighter (different rhythm section), but the three frontmen Arbus, Caines and Nicholson are still there. "Snafu" is almost a jazz album, deeply rooted in the avant-garde - with its Charles Mingus cover version, some tracks that play backwards etc. Its what the British press wouldve once called "jazz-tinged". The best British folk-rock band of the late '60s, Fairport Convention did more than any other act to develop a truly British variation on the folk-rock prototype by drawing upon traditional material and styles indigenous to the British Isles. While the revved-up renditions of traditional British folk tunes drew the most critical attention, the group members were also (at least at the outset) talented songwriters as well as interpreters. Released in 1968, FC's debut album owes more to the Byrds than to Pentangle, with soaring harmonies and psychedelic guitars. 0309188 LP TIME 709 TIMELESS	FOREST - FULL CIRCLE This album has both brutal and beautiful elements, and the raw acoustic tunes create weird and very enchanting music. There are much medieval influences here, but the overall aesthetics are not luckily very idealized or fantasy related, but sincere and realistic, filled with mystery, misery and violence. Music is peaceful but partly disturbing too. "Bluebell" was quite good track, and the last song "Autumn Childhood" is very weird with strange rhythm changes and several parts. "The Midnight Hanging of A Runaway Serf" was also quite affecting in its brutality and realism. "Graveyard" is also very beautiful and quite accessible song, but maybe best of them all is "Gypsy girl & Rambleway", describing a love affair with very raw medieval sounds. Oh yeah, and that small fact that Alex & Richard backed Jandek at his first ever live performance is pretty cool too...Musically, things are way fucking deep in the zone here folks. Side one glides along in slo-mo dream state hover with Richard's beautiful and unmistakable vocals soaring and refracting in to echoes, quietly fluttering and droning electronics, otherworldly sounding synth melodies, rolling splashes of free percussion, backwards effects, and syrupy sound pools of acoustic strings. 0309195 LP TIME 713 TIMELESS	PANAMA LIMITED - INDIAN SUMMER Late 60's jugband blues outfit led by Denis Parker alongside Gary Compton (harmonica) and Brian Strachan (guitar), the Panama Limited Jugband, also named after a Bukka White song (from 1930). The band was based in the Richmond area of London, which at the time was kind of a hotbed for blues (the Crawdaddy Club), especially acoustic style blues. Shortly thereafter, however, Denis became disenchanted with the music business. Thankfully he left us these recordings as an artefact. They shortened their name to Panama Ltd. for a second album by which time Liz Hann, their vocalist, had left and been replaced by Anne Matthews. Their debut album, St Radigunds (B&C, 1971), was an innovative work, with Barbara Gaskin on vocals, Julian Cusack on violin, Martin Cockerham on guitar and Tony Cox on electronic keyboards. This sequel, Old Boot Wine was slightly less innovative and disruptive although the textures got thicker (cello, flute) and jazzier. Nothing thats somehow ironically twisted or distorted by overthinking. Ira tie into a time when rock used to be serious and connected to deep existencial feelings. Its simply a matter of dignity. This band intends to overwhelm. Their long and epic tracks force the listener to lose himself, to get carried along, torn between the fear of losing control and the pleasant feeling of losing ground. But Ira arent virtuous posers. They dont imitate the pompous rockspectacle of the early seventies. Their use of effects and emotions is precisely calculated, their wall of sound never coagulates in pathos. The songs are distinguished by atmospheric density instead of fingerboard acrobatics. The great thing about their songs is that they are not overloaded; instead the arrangements leave space for unlimited associations. Ira succeed in uniting the mogwaiesque floating post-rock-sound with classic rock songs. But its not the straight-forward, demanding kind of rock anymore that makes you clench your fist - these epic and blazing tracks are riddled with melancholy, doubt, fragility. And yet, in their songs dealing with lack of communication and unconsciousness (isolation and helplessness), you can also find references to some great moments of rock history. VOD is very proud to present this collection of wonderful tracks by French darkwave-masters. Franck Lopez and the other band-members have digged into their archives and compiled a great selection from their very rare tapes plus other treasures. In parallel to its official vinyl/CD discography, OPERA MULTI STEEL recorded during the eighties several K7 tapes including many unreleased tracks: Autres Appels (1985), Eternelle Tourmente (1986), OMS/Modern Art (1987), Je regarde la Pluie (1987), Regret qui scaille (1987). Those K7's were home-duplicated in those times in very limited quantities (between 100 and 300 copies). This 3LP Box set is an anthology of the tracks featured on those different 80s K7 tapes (originally 2-track reel tape recorded) that were the seeds of some songs rearranged or rerecorded later and even contains some demo versions of never-released songs. Reissue. Super Roots 2 was a 3" mini-CD given away to those who mailed in a coupon found inside initial copies of Chocolate Synthesizer. It's not included here, but we thought you'd like to know. It's unknown which members participated in the Japan-exclusive releases Super Roots 3 and Super Roots 5, but both discs share a similar aesthetic: ceaseless pummelling. Both consist of one long track apiece; Super Roots 3's "Hard Trance Away (Karaoke of Cosmos)" rages forth with a full half-hour's worth of unimpeded, breakneck, two-chord thrash. Key changes seem to occur at intervals, and vocal wailing blesses the last 10 or 15 seconds' worth of music, before cutting off and ending in three whole minutes of silence. If the first Super Roots was maddening in its frantic attention deficits, Super Roots 3 quells the frustration with linear, single-minded aggression.

In the early 80's GL travelled to London to meet up with Dominik Guerin of Twin Vision/SPK. Dominik introduced them to Graeme Revell and Brian Williams of Lustmord, who were running Side Effects Records and both of them decided to release an album by GL. Two more GL tracks were also released on the seminal compilation Vhutemas Archetypi, which also featured groups like Laibach, Lustmord & SPK.The band is known for their mystical, almost martial and epic sounds, which can easily upset the listener's emotions. Nothing for weak nerves...VOD and Till Brüggemann compiled a perfect supplement to the LP Hypnotischer Existenzialismus. The double LP set is covering the very early musical period of the band. It includes outtakes, tape-contributions, a live performance from LA, as well as a Berlin Atonal-performance. Attached you will also find a DVD with disturbing footage of early video clips, a short film as well as some other rare live video clips from New York City.
