Limited edition opf 500 copies. 6-track 10" Vinyl E.P. (33 1/3rpm): Comprised of three different versions of future "Reg King" album tracks (*) from pre-album sessions in the Summer of 1969. Some of these are quite radically different to their released counterparts, and, importantly, are different again to anything on our expanded album release! A fascinating look at how the tracks evolved. In addition, there are three completely unknown/unreleased original tracks (+), which we feel warrant description: ·The rousing, upbeat "Merry Go Round" has shades of late period Beatles, and is probably a song that Noel Gallagher would love to have written! .Gentle and sensitive, "Magenta" builds from a tender beginning to a pure emotional climax. "So Full of Love" has a subtle eastern/psychedelic feel, but also modern jazz chording and arrangement. It has an air of The Action's "Rolled Gold" album about it. These three tracks in particular, are a revelation, and prove beyond doubt, Reg's versatility and gifts as a songwriter as you've never heard before. These tracks will only appear on Vinyl the once, on this 10" record, so we recommend 'Vinyl Freaks' to pick it up soon! An important link between the "Rolled Gold"-era Action and the "Reg King" solo record, this could be a pointer to future Circle releases.Packaged in striking black/white '60s E.P.- style art sleeve, with the front cover based on a classic "Action" poster design. Only known for the one single in 1968 "Ice Cream Tree" /"Julius Caesar" on Mercury, (and largely misunderstood from this to be a pop act), Birminghams Breakthru were in fact one of the loudest, hairiest and most exciting psychedelic rock bands of their time. However, they could create soulful, sensitive or just plain catchy sounds too. Young and very fashionable, many audiences had seen nothing like them. They took their wild stage show, complete with smoke and lights, all over Great Britain: Playing many of Londons most important clubs of the day in the process, such as "Happening 44", "The Electric Garden", "Blaises" and "The Marquee". They also were resident at a club in Switzerland for a time, and made a big impression at Plumptons 1969 "National Jazz and Blues Festival". This is their first complete album, and gathers together all their surviving recordings. Despite the sole single release, the band recorded much material from 1967 to 1970. Included here are their cancelled second Mercury 45 "Peer Gynt"/"Troubleshoot", alongside 14 other unreleased titles, and two which only made a brief appearance on a contemporary compilation. The album C.D. runs for over 50 minutes, and has been put together to show the band as the ex-members would like best to be remembered. The E.P. disc contains their single release, alongside three of their earliest/more pop-orientated numbers. Together, these show the bands musical range in full. In the overcrowded, constantly re-cycling 60s reissue market, this is new, fresh and largely unheard, restored as far as possible from original tapes and acetates. 		60s/70sPSYCH/PROG/FOLK

Cold Sun from Austin, Texas was recorded in 1970 in the legendary Sonobeat studios, where the Mariani and Johnny Winter first LPs were produced. The Cold Sun band are considered contemporaries of Velvet Underground and The Fugs, often listed as being in a similar vein but inspirations for this unique piece actually go back to the desperated, haunted Joe Meek. All songs lyrically express dark, mystic poetry with the true 60s psychedelic floating/distorted fuzz spirit presented in short compact mini-epics along with several mind blowing long tunes, such as "Ra-Ma" (11 min), "Here In The Year" (9 min) and "Fall" (7 min). Discovered by Rockadelic Records of Dallas, Texas in 1991, the Dark Shadows album saw the light of day the next year as a limited LP version, to become today one of the most important and revered US psychedelic underground albums from the early 70s. ---(Rockadelic heard it in the form of an old scratchy acetate that one of the Cold Sun band members had made in order to be able to play the recording at friendsparties on their turntables. The acetate only contained 2/3 of the songs but so greatly impressed them that Rockadelic managed together with bandleader Bill Miller to release the complete sessions from mastertape.)--- Autoharp wizard Miller eventually spearheaded Roky Erickson's international debut as the Cold Sun band joined forces with Roky in 1974 and became BliebAlien, later evolved into The Aliens and backed Roky on his famous albums and historical concerts.--- Carefully remastered from the mastertapes, this album will bring new rewarding listening experiences in expanded fidelity, plus 2 unreleased non-album songs, authentic Live/Concert recordings of "Live Again"(10 min) and "Mind Aura"(7 min). Four Decades after WOODSTOCK, these fabulous recording sessions see the light of day for the first time. This album contains 5 studio tracks from 1969, recorded at the popular 'Mu House' by the panhandle in San Francisco's Haight & Ashbury where the likes of Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Paul Butterfield Blues Band with Michael Bloomfield frequently played music. Plus, 2 live tracks from 1970 during their 'Hight Time' best! An added bonus of 4 songs from Banda de Jesus, (a band which included 3 original Naked Lunch members), recorded by David Rubinson & Fred Catero at Pacific Recording in San Mateo, CA circa 1972. To put it in a genre ... it blends the best of Latin Rock, with 'rare grooves, and tricky jazz/funk elements'. Highly addictive melodies, with emotional vocals, pulsating beats with floating conga rhythms, soaring electric guitar, whirling Hammond Organ, and a punchy Horn-duo, create powerful arrangements to set your home stereo ablaze. This release tells the story , musically, but also in extended linernotes, and rare photos (20p. booklet) the evolution of the band which was founded in the Summer of '69. Led by 16 year old Abel Zarate (Gtr & vocals) to become one of SF's hottest live acts in 1970 - a record deal with Bill Graham's Fillmore Records was in sight, but NL was too 'raw', and energetic to be reigned in and 'commercialized'. But now you hear it, remastered to a fresh dynamic sound from the original sesssion tapes. This is the first of two Straight label albums by Zappa's multi-talented "sideman", Jeff Simmons. In Seattle 1968 Herb Cohen and Frank Zappa were at the sound check for Jeffs band "Easy Chair" (soon to be released on World in Sound) and were fascinated by Jeffs talent. He was soon signed to Straight records and later Jeff was in the Mothers of Invention at the time of 200 Motels. Both albums, "Naked Angels" and "Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up" were recorded in 1969. Reflecting strong fuzz guitar, heavy and psychedelicate surf-rock, Naked Angels, the original soundtrack for a Roger Corman cult biker movie, is a sequence of mostly instrumentals that combine the freedom of the end 60s mood and melody perfectly. This LP-reissue comes with the original gatefold coverartwork by John Williams and includes additionally the original French movie-poster. This album is one of the coolest soundtracks made in the end-60s and was carefully re-mastered to sound today as fresh as it was 40 years ago. Biographic information: All members are in their early/mid twenties and the history of Treacle People begins in 1998 in Worms (south-western part of Germany). From its inauguration as an exclusive and elitist clique centered in London and its immediate suburbs, the mod movement had by the early 60's germinated to a point where British groups were flourishing to entertain its growing legions. The mods' original musical palette oozed black soul and rhythm and blues and since in the less cosmopolitan world of the time its perpetrators rarely ventured beyond their home base of the U.S.A, a blossoming of indigenous talent to sate the demand for live R&B and soul was inevitable. The mod riots, 'Ready Steady Go' and the emergence of Tamla Motown as a commercially successful force exasperated the phenomenon and expanded mod into a national and indeed mercantile culture, which ignited a further engendering of mod or mod styled groups. Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, Chris Farlowe and the Thunderbirds and Long John Baldry's Hoochie Coochie Men to name but a few had paved the way but in 1965, a genus of more visually appealing bands had or were achieving a profile. Despite their mostly manufactured mod image the Who were the movement's most distinctive standard bearers but from the ranks of mod itself there emerged two bands in particular who for many of their own and subsequent generations, defined and epitomized the British mod group - The Small Faces and The Action. The recordings: Five are T.V./Radio/Live versions of Action single (+ one from "Rolled Gold" era) tracks. Another five are totally unreleased, and appear here for the first time ever on any record! The C.D. version will be a double set: The first C.D. will contain all the material on the vinyl version. The second 'bonus' C.D. will have 16 live tracks from The Boston Arms/Dome, London - their second re-union gig in 1998. Only known for the one single in 1968 "Ice Cream Tree" /"Julius Caesar" on Mercury, (and largely misunderstood from this to be a pop act), Birminghams Breakthru were in fact one of the loudest, hairiest and most exciting psychedelic rock bands of their time. However, they could create soulful, sensitive or just plain catchy sounds too. Young and very fashionable, many audiences had seen nothing like them. They took their wild stage show, complete with smoke and lights, all over Great Britain: Playing many of Londons most important clubs of the day in the process, such as "Happening 44", "The Electric Garden", "Blaises" and "The Marquee". They also were resident at a club in Switzerland for a time, and made a big impression at Plumptons 1969 "National Jazz and Blues Festival". This is their first complete album, and gathers together all their surviving recordings. Despite the sole single release, the band recorded much material from 1967 to 1970. Included here are their cancelled second Mercury 45 "Peer Gynt"/"Troubleshoot", alongside 14 other unreleased titles, and two which only made a brief appearance on a contemporary compilation. The album C.D. runs for over 50 minutes, and has been put together to show the band as the ex-members would like best to be remembered. The E.P. disc contains their single release, alongside three of their earliest/more pop-orientated numbers. Together, these show the bands musical range in full. Embryo and the Burg Herzberg Festival is a long story. 40 years ago, when the first one happened in the old castle, Embryo was there. After that performance they even got robbed, a blue painted violin and a good amp were gone for ever. In all the years following the festival got bigger and changed to a different place to find room for the growing audience and stages. Embryo played there many times in different line-ups. This performance was a sort of chill out act for the whole festival. The nucleus of this band (Jens, Lothar, Mik. Marja, Christian) had grown through all the many years on tour to a steady line-up, supported by five other friends: On trumpet Werner, who was introduced by Mik, one of the few good oboe-players around. On guitar Valentin Altenberger. His father is a modern jazz drummer and his mother, a jazzsinger who grew up in the family of Bobbie Jones, known for his work with Charles Mingus, so he grew up in a musical surrounding and knows Marja since his childhood. On oud and guitar Andy Rust who knows much about Indian culture and is with Embryo since some years. The third electric guitar is played by Bjorn Eric Munz from Ensemble ORIENT-EXPRESS, also good friends of Embryo. On Percussion Norbert Keck who had been playing with the band almost on all the Herzberg gigs in the last years. This CD presents a rawer electric set by Embryo - (cause the wet and cold wind at the Festival weekend made it too hard to tune the acoustic instruments! Unlike other albums where the Far East Family Band focused on Pink Floyd-esque psych ballads, on Parellel World the influence of producer Klaus Schultze is more pronounced, merging prog rock with electronic music to create something rather weired and wonderful. Although Schultze oversaw the production of the album rather than playing on it (which he definitely didnt!), the synth star turn is Masanori Takasaki who was later to find new age fame and fortune under the name of Kitaro. This is space rock at its finest and the bands extended compositions attracted favourable comparisons with both Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd, and even at times the vocal style of the Moody Blues. This reissue by Headstone, a hard rock quartet from Indiana was their only album release. They were discovered by a local producer from Ohio, who owned the label "Starr-Records" and went there to record "Still looking" (further they released 3 three non-lp 45 records, which are 6 bonustracks on this CD & 3 on LP). In the psychedelic underground collectors scene the album got established as a classic psych-hard-rock rarity. Their sound is strong and melodic with awesome guitar/organ leads, solid bass and catchy vocals. Their natural float creates a hypnotic atmosphere and makes you listen to this album again and again. at all their musical spirit is closer to the end 60s blend, than the recording year 1974 reflects, and sometimes they remind of the early Bloodrock stuff. The experimental guitar-driven musician collective, iH8 Camera (="i hate camera") from Antwerp, Belgium was formed by 2004, around the nucleus of the "Love Substitutes". iH8 Camera performs rarely but frequently live and in changing line-ups and Trip In Time discovered them for the Burg Herzberg Festival 2006 (Europes biggest Hippie Fest). The Sextett arrived at the Freakstage just in time for their set - ready to plug in and perform this mindblowing 50 min improvisational Freak-Out-Show..their odyssey seemed long and must have been impressive to the band; finally they got inspired to name their 7 songs after cities from the area which have been passed on this trip, lyrics reflect the "true" stories about life on road! For sure youll recognize influences of Pink Floyds early period (69-71), 13th Floor Elevators - but also more modern ones, such as "Radiohead" or "Deus" (Ward & Trouv are former Deus members). The iLLiad is a young quintet from Ohio. A creatively produced demo put World In Sounds attention to the band leader Kyle Pittman, an introverted and deeply emotional singer and guitarist. "A Sad Day on Pluto" was recorded in Cleveland, Ohio (2007) and contains 13 original tunes reflecting a tasty spectrum between early Pink Floyd jamming, 60s garage/flower-power and loner Folk style, and feature very catchy lyrics combined with interesting "psychedelicate" melodies. Pittmans music captures a unique style of composing fresh music with the influences of Syd Barretts Pink Floyd, West Coast Pop Art Exp. Band, Velvet Underground, Marc Bolan and David Bowie. The mixing, mostly done by Pittman himself is truly a "trip in time" - a total stereo-experimental" 60s style like Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn! The quartet Serpentina Satelite was formed by the end of 2003 in Lima, Peru. Their music creates atmospheres and emotions throughout diverse musical influences; exploring space-kraut-rock, avantgarde stoner and psychedelia. In late 2004 the band produced independently their first EP named LONG PLAY, feat. 5 longtunes - only released in PERU. Behind this extraordinary retrospective release stand musicians from Portland, OR Jeff Sanger and Alexa Marmon. John See's Lilly is certainly a psychedelic gem and introduces the world to the mystic and creative To Get Her Together which carries the influence of Seeds, Electric Prunes, Syd Barrett, Donovans psychedelic period and Joe Meek all rolled into one, feat. also a great cover version of "Clarence in Wonderland" (K. Ayers) . They create a sound that sums up a scene from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Jeff is an emotive songwriter and singer taking you through a journey into his mind full of musical twists and turns with acoustic guitar rhythms over hypnotic drum and bass to tunes with electric overdrive- mindblowing fuzz. Equipment used such as a 1930's David Bogen amplifier, vintage organs and effects, and analogue equipment ultimately reward the listener experience. The song "Jovial Tree" can be heard on Trip In Time Vol.2 (Psychedelic Rock Reflections) and is celebrated highly. Was the Iron Curtain in place to keep out Western forces, or was it to keep groovy music like this in? Secret underground grooves that explode with the power of a thousand ICBMs! This is a rollicking tour through the old Eastern Bloc; groups hailing from Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria and the former Czechoslovakia hell bent on proving that, despite their incarceration, they had perfected the decidedly British and American sound that makes up this rare and unique mix of psych/rock. The album slows down only twice; two ballads, both released in the former Czechoslovakia, are sung in English. Both are beautiful. For the rest, theres heavy bass lines, consonant clusters, occasional horn support and searing fuzz guitar punctuation. From an early Illes (Hungary) with added crowd noises and a Mersey-esque take on R&B, to a later Illes with flute and closely-miked slide guitar and wall of strings, this collection rocks. Having released their most recent album with us in 2007, weve been saving these two Micky Hampshire-penned gems to launch at you when the times right - we feel that time is now approaching! "Sometimes Friend" on the A-side, features band associate and muse Ludella Black on lead vocal, whos a solo artist in her own right and popular feature of Masonics live gigs. She sings over a fast, powerful punk rock tune, giving everything in the process. Every musician powers along through two and a half minutes of sheer excitement, leaving the listener simply wanting to hear it again. This song shows any less mature contenders the door, and is proof that The Masonics still possess much attitude! "Hungry Monkey" on the B, is a slightly sinister jungle tale, played by the male Masonics (Masons?) with Micky singing. Propelled along by a proper tribal beat and featuring an amazing talking guitar solo and flashes of organ(!), you can almost feel the heat and hear the crickets chirping! The first run is limited to 500 copies, pressed on Clear vinyl, and in a paper picture sleeve.The whole package being evocative of late70s punk 45s (perhaps even one in particular?). Louisa Jane White. Two excellent 45's on Philips 69 and 70 before moving to MCA in 71, eventually scoring a hit record with 'take the money and run' in mid seventies. This was the second and by far the best record she ever made. Why 'truth in my tears' was never a hit is anyone's guess, to my mind it is musical perfection. 18. Heidi Bruhl Better known for her German pop music and film work than this awesome release on UK Philips rumoured not to have been released in her native country. This sounds like it could have been from a film soundtrack with the excellent production work and song title. The track itself is one of the best discoveries I heard in recent years and fits perfectly with the lady's above effort which was also recorded just a 66 releases later for the very same label just a few months apart. 19. Paul Nicholas Started life with Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages playing organ before teaming up with the Reaction label and Robert Stigwood productions. His first solo release was in 1966 as Paul Dean 'with she can build a mountain' before switching names again to Oscar for four singles on Reaction label including the excellent Mod club fave 'club of lights'. One single on the Polydor label in 68 with the same name, before changing again to Paul Nicholas. In 1969 his theatre musical career started with star roles in 'Hair' and later 'Jesus Christ superstar' before going onto become a household name on your TV screen in 'Just good friends'. 'Run shaker life' is the B-side of his 1970's single. 20. M.U.5 Named,we think, after the World biggest computer at that time. We have no information on this band who released this single on Crystal in 1972. Blue eyed soul with fuzz guitar and a sound production that would have common place some five years before. At that time, the old fashioned recorders with big reels were widely spread among families. They served the same purpose as video does today: to document the development of the kids, dogs and grandparents. Some people also used it as diary or to record anything occurring in radio that they thought to be important (besides the top-ten). "Sag doch auch mal was!", english for "Say something!" was one of the most common phrases to be found on the recordings. In thrift-stores and fleamarkets Bohlen collected more than 30 hours of material - additional to some twenty hours from his own and friends families.In collage-technic this dirty stuff, the different voices from all over the country, east and west, were arranged to form a big family, portraying a time that for gods sake is over. Better price! Previously unreleased material recorded between 1978 & 1983 at the CHEN YI commune in England. The sound of CHEN YI is rough and brutal...electronic music, soundcollages that reminds of THROBBING GRISTLE or (early)SPK as well as electro-pop-tracks and songs like early CABARET VOLTAIRE, CHRIS & COSEY, SEVERED HEADS...The Chen Yi commune was founded in 1978 by about 20 women and men from London. The aim of the commune was to create a closed subsystem, a kind of subsociety and to narrow down its contact to the outside world only on very few specific actions. The Chen Yi commune never was interested in producing records, some of the members even refused any form of release whatsoever. In 1981 one member released a tape edition called "Hanging". The title referred to the first 3 English witches who were hanged in Chelmsford, where the commune house was located. This cassette was sent to various record companies. John Peel saw a potential in Chen Yi which led to a recording contract in 1982/83 with CBS. About 7 tracks were produced for the first Chen Yi LP. More couldn't be finalised, because CBS suddenly pulled out of the contract. Discovered while still in high school singing country for an Oklahoma City radio station, by 1955 she was touring with Elvis Presley, who encouraged her to sing more in the rockabilly style, where she soon gained a huge fan base. However, this first album for Capitol shows just how versatile she could be, able to sing anything from traditional country to pop. Decades before his time, political and musical revolutionary, Sun Ra, developed a new plane of cultural existence where black people were all-powerful beings from outer space, sending their intergalactic message through jazz music. Recorded live in 1975 at Cleveland's legendary jazz club, the Smiling Dog Saloon, when Sun Ra and his Arkestra descended on the city for a week-long residency. You can imagine how the uninitiated's jaw must have dropped when Ra and his 15 musicians marched out onto the stage decked in glittery space costumes, playing percussion instruments and chanting. This high quality live performance is top-shelf Ra playing a kind of spaced out world music with hints of disco. Ra sings, plays the Moog, piano and organ, while everyone else plays alternately some kind of percussion or reed instrument, sings, dances, and claps hands. Recorded live in New York in 1973 with a 25-piece Arkestra, "What Planet Is This?" comes from a time when Sun Ra had just exploded onto the wider music scene, touring all over Europe, and even teaching a class at the University of California called "The Black Man In The Cosmos", where Ra was given a chance not only to teach about music, but also his world-view which, in some ways, was not unlike that of the hippies. Although many get caught up in his stagey esotericism and claims that he was from another planet, perhaps it can all be read as a simple code message to others to be anyone you want to be, regardless of race, or indeed, planet. Highlights of this recording include the ten-minute full-blown "Love In Outer Space", featuring unfettered organ, horns and a wall-of-sound approach to percussion, and the wild and whirling "Shadow World". In fact, Ra is at his best when he takes his audience by storm, pulling out all the stops as he does so masterfully on this rare performance with a 25-piece arkestra, one of his largest ever! Volumes 1 and 2 of "Genius of Modern Music" are finally available for the first time as one deluxe double LP set, featuring the original track listings from the first 12" versions, originally released on Blue Note in 1956. Sides A & B, originally released as "Genius Of Modern Music, Vol. 1" (BLP-1510), feature Monks recordings as a bandleader in 1947 and Sides C & D, originally released as "Genius Of Modern Music, Vol. 2" (BLP-1511), feature his recordings as a bandleader for Blue Note in 1951-1952. The 1947 recordings, recorded when Monk was 30 years old, are Monks first as a bandleader and just a glance at the track listing makes one understand why Blue Note felt it appropriate to use that title for these albums.
