0337137 7" SING 11 SING SING	HILL, JEFF -BAND- - SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH MY BABY Immediately after the release of the Chiswick single, JEFF HILL recruited drummer DAVE BUCKLEY (ex-MOONSHINE, who recorded a 1976 EP titled Too Young To Love Me) and bass player RAY HUMPHRIES, and played their first gig in Burtonwood on October 19. A few demos were taped in Warrington on November 26, two days before entering London's Pathway Studios to record a second 7-inch for Chiswick, which never saw the light of day. In the second half of 1978 a deal with Rabid Records was negotiated and two tracks were taped at Cheshire's Revolution Studio on February 19, 1979, with STEVE HOPKINS as guest musician and ANDY MAC taking production duties. Rabid planned the release of a single then decided to include the two tracks on a compilation album: both projects were eventually aborted. Undeterred, the Jeff Hill Band decided to found their own label, Balloon Records, and self-financed the pressing of 500 copies of a 7-inch housed in a cartoon picture cover with a Ramonesy drawing of Jeff wearing a 'gabba gabba hey' badge. The record emerged on December 20, 1979, and is worth tracking down, though it is quite hard to locate: its two Punk/Powerpop songs are enjoyable efforts with the A-side "Something's Wrong With My Baby" arguably being the better track. An impromtu practice at JILL KOSSORIS' (SHIVVERS) house and the introduction of her friend, drummer ROB MCCUEN took the band out of the cover circuit and focused their talents on writing original material. The band's only 45 was released in November of 1980 and ranks as one of the best two siders to emerge from the incredible Milwaukee music scene of the 1980s. "Humanity Needs No Funeral", the first full-length album from AERE AETERNUS, was released on the French label Kaosthetik. With a multi-national and eclectic lineup, the band comprises Alex (MACABRE OMEN, THE ONE, RAZOR OF OCCAM), Claudio Alcara (FROSTMOON ECLIPSE, STROSZEK), Cyr (DARK SANCTUARY, ELEKTRONIK SOCIETY) and Radu. Drawing on the wide range and considerable musical experience of its members, AERE AETERNUS creates a dark, disturbing atmosphere that probably best fits within the ambient and minimalist genres, and which the band themselves describe as "half misanthropic ritual and half sex ritual." The dominant atmosphere combines a sense of impending insanity with sexual deviancy and a large dollop of occultism, creating a dark and troubling misanthropic sojourn that is relatively unique. The final track is probably the most musical, as it is centred on a guitar arpeggio, but no such concessions to convention are present elsewhere on this deeply troubling disk. That's hardly new in itself, but 'Seedling Mother' isn't your typically chilled out folktronica record. This is a dark, jazzy affair with fractured rhythms and a heavy, oppressive ambience. Nowhere is this clearer than on the title track, with its sampled argument between a teenager and his pregnant girlfriend. There's an uneasy, voyeuristic shiver to it, but it's compelling all the same. The problem with making a record that conveys a dark mood so concisely is that it risks being drab and depressing itself. Iran has been a mystery to collectors for many years, and even today it remains a blackbox to most. Within the rubbles of Iran's lost musical history comes Golden Ring, one of the first, and most prodominent Iranian garage groups from the 60's. Based in Tehran, Golden Ring recorded and released a series of songs on 7" during the late 60's and early 70's before disbanding. They were one of the first Iranian bands to be influenced by Western music such as The Beatles, combining traditional Iranian instrumentation and melodies with structures found in UK and North American rock and pop. This combination resulted in an Iranian take on garage music during the genre's climax. One of the members of Golden Ring, Arif, later went on to become a solo artist, and over time became one of the legendary artists within Irans musical landscape. His solo material spread across 45's, soundtracks and generations of fans. Those of you who have followed along with us while we chart a course through the rich musical heritage of Uruguay know full well, a military dictatorship took control of the country in the early 1970's, causing most well-known musicians to emigrate. The nation's most influential musician, enfant terrible iconoclast Eduardo Mateo, had no chance to do so. And yet it was during this dark period that Mateo reached his zenith as a composer and arranger in case of this album, with a lot of help from world famous Afro-folk percussionist Jorge Trasante. On 'Mateo y Trasante' (1976), Mateo's second post-El Kinto album, he goes further than ever before in his sonic explorations of different percussion variations and guitar techniques, evolving a more complex musical style. Even Mateo's voice underwent a relevant mutation for the album, which many people thought the result of a deep mental illness. (Trasante explains that Mateo was deeply influenced by Arabic music, and used the new modulations he discovered to get into different characters with his voice.) Many of Mateo's old fans and fellow musicians could not really connect with his new musical personality and this work went unnoticed. According to Mateo biographer Guilherme de Alencar Pinto, only around 343 copies of the album were sold; yet this record is now considered a legitimate work of art, and indisputable evidence of Mateo's genius. This Lion Productions edition comes with a 32-page booklet which contains abundant information on the making of the album, as told by Jorge Trasante, lyrics in English and in the original Spanish, historical background on the Uruguayan scene, a score of incredible photos, and a brief overview of the legendary Sondor label. They hooked up with Steve Angel (singer/bass) and drummer Ronnie Sharpe and formed REACTOR. They played some live gigs in the mid 80's, one that is featured in this release. Shortly after the gig, Richard moved down to Florida and was replaced by Mike Reid, and at that time renamed the band THE REAL WORLD. They ended up only recording a 6 song studio EP which is the first 6 songs off of this release, that was never released until now. As far as their sound is concerned, it just came out natural for them, nothing forced, just basically some guys jamming good old SABBATH/PENTAGRAM influenced dirty Rock N Roll with a "social relevant" lyrical message to the fans. The music is raw, heavy, and catchy. After many line-up changes (even Joe Hasselvander (he played guitar) was in the band at one point), they decided to call it quits as it was more or less something for these guys to hang around and do with no pressure and to let off some steam rather than a band looking to go somewhere. This is one of the most obscure 80s bands around the Maryland/Virginia area, but I can tell you this is without a shadow of doubt quality Heavy Metal/Rock and deserves to be in anyones metal collection whos looking to complete their Maryland/Virginia Doom collection. Damn, more weird keyboards, bring em on, like on Boogaloo Sabroso-Guantanamera, yes, boogaloo from Peru with outer space keyboards, yes, give me more, which is exactly what MAG has done with this, the third installment of prime strange Outpost Afro Cuban music from the 50s through the 70's. Some of the tracks are repeated (Machupicchu is on Vol II and on the Melcochita album Extra: Acabo Con Lima Huyo Pa' New York), but so what. There's even a track called Boogaloo Boogaloo, and it also has some weird sonics on it. There's a Latin version of Jumping with Symphony Sid, and a song called Peruvian Guaguanco. And they've packed a solid album with 20 massive tracks full of untouchable beats and rhymes. With their debut "Die Wichtigkeit" (trans. Importance) ILL-TILL, TIGER, DER RICHTER, TRETBOTE, KNOCHENBLUT and DJ OPFERRILLE already set the bar really high. Before it nobody had heard anything like this in German hip-hop. This brilliant debut was dedicated in the main to their dhirty style of school yard-rap. But now the Cru really seem to have been let loose on life. And it looks like they have grown to like the daily rap. The title track is the eavesdrop-rap "Die Reime der anderen" (trans. The rhymes of others), which is set against the scene of a large scale Hip-hop tapping maneuver. Or are they exposing the actual practices of the the Rap-Stasi? Have worldwide followers of the Tilluminati sent out their moles to copy the hard-disks of rappers everywhere? Who knows.
