ANCESTORS - OF SOUND MIND
Where Ancestors showed signs of promise on their debut album Neptune With Fire, they have trail-blazed new pathways with the 8-part opus Of Sound Mind. The have channelled the freedom of progressive stalwarts King Crimson, the craft and insight of Pink Floyd and the depth and brooding of Neurosis. The 8 part, 1 hour plus effort was recorded by Pete Lyman (Mars Volta). They weave an unorthodox mixture of sonic textures, down-tempo riffs and rhythms, accented with well crafted melodies. The combination delivers a cohesive journey akin to the ambitious undertakings of avant-garde musicians like Eric Dolphy, Peter Brotzmann or Miles Davis. Ancestors, including contributions by notable Los Angeles artists David Scott Stone (Melvins, Unwound), Sera Timms (Black Math Horseman) and cellist Ramiro Zapata have created an album truly Of Sound Mind.

AUDIENCE - FRIEND'S FRIEND'S FRIEND'S
Whether or not Audience should be considered a "real Prog" band, but no matter how one might classify them this band certainly has to be considered a rather unique one. The combination of Howard Werths vocals and Keith Gemmells versatile use of sax, flute and clarinet is just immediately highly fascinating. All the tracks on this album are just equally great - although its true that the instrumental "Ebony Variations" with its playful jazzy renditions of a classical theme and Gemmels really virtuoso clarinet play doesnt fit quite well to the rest - Nonetheless this piece is an excellent one as well as a very rare one.

BOBAK/JONS/MALONE - MOTHERLIGHT
Known by the name of an album rather than the name of the group, Motherlight produced an album full of spooky psychedelia with progressive leanings, which works really well. Almost all tracks have a slightly unsettling atmosphere, originating in a clever use of dissonance, without being quirky. On A Meadow - Lea has good fuzz guitar paired to pastoral lyrics, while Mona Lose bears overt traces of malice. Burning The Weed sounds quite surprisingly akin to US Kaleidoscope. The Lens is Procol Harum on a bad trip and even foreshadows Joy Division! This is great!

BONZO DOG DOO-DAH BAND - GORILLA
The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (also known as The Bonzo Dog Band, The Bonzo Dog Dada Band and, colloquially, as "The Bonzos") are a band created by a group of British art-school denizens of the 1960s. Moving over to Liberty Records, the Bonzos released their first album, Gorilla, that included "Jazz, Delicious Hot, Disgusting Cold" which savagely parodied their early "trad" jazz roots and featured some of the most deliberately inept jazz playing ever recorded. The record company only allowed two hours of studio time per track, so it was completed in a single take to allow for the far more complex "The Intro and the Outro" in which every member of the band was introduced and played a solo, starting with genuine band members. This is great!

BROUGHTON, EDGAR -BAND- - WASA WASA
The band started their career as a blues band, playing to a dedicated but limited following in the region around their hometown of Warwick. However, when the band began to lean towards the emerging psychedelic movement, dropping the 'Blues' from their name as well as their music, they got down to this debut album. Basically, it rocks good and hard, remains unafraid of letting lunacy into the lyrics and takes off into the realms of excess with impressive confidence. Edgar's immense vocal power holds its own throughout the loudest sections and the thudding blues elements never get boring. Wasa Wasa is highly recommended!

EARTH & FIRE - EARTH & FIRE (IT)
RERELEASED! Earth and Fire were one of the leading Dutch progressive rock groups with female singer. They had a powerful sound and their strong compositions were always based in inspired and highly memorable melodies. Their debut-album is progressive rock in a less symphonic and slightly rougher vein than later albums. Some of the tracks ("Wild and Exciting" and "Love Quiver") even borders on heavy progressive. There was no Mellotron in their sound yet, but Gerard Koerts' excellent use of flute, organ and vibes took well care of the band's progressive sound already in this state of their career. "Earth and Fire" is a good debut with no bad tracks.

EAST OF EDEN - SNAFU
Clearly the better of East Of Eden albums, this second album is a much proggier statement than Mercator Projected, but it is still plagued with imperfections but none are glaring. The sound is rather different but is also tighter (different rhythm section), but the three frontmen Arbus, Caines and Nicholson are still there. "Snafu" is almost a jazz album, deeply rooted in the avant-garde - with its Charles Mingus cover version, some tracks that play backwards etc. Its what the British press wouldve once called "jazz-tinged". And they had the bottle to pull singles from this album!

FAIRPORT CONVENTION - FAIRPORT CONVENTION
The best British folk-rock band of the late '60s, Fairport Convention did more than any other act to develop a truly British variation on the folk-rock prototype by drawing upon traditional material and styles indigenous to the British Isles. While the revved-up renditions of traditional British folk tunes drew the most critical attention, the group members were also (at least at the outset) talented songwriters as well as interpreters. Released in 1968, FC's debut album owes more to the Byrds than to Pentangle, with soaring harmonies and psychedelic guitars. Recorded pre-Sandy Denny, Judy Dyble sang like a siren and then left to form Trader Horne.

FANTASY (UK) - PAINT A PICTURE
REPRESSED! Originally titled "Virgin On The Ridiculous", Fantasy's "Paint A Picture" has long been hailed as a masterpiece of classically influenced, quintessentially English progressive rock, full of delightful twists and turns and instrumental prowess, coupled with an uncanny talent for songwriting, including "The Award", a tribute to their late guitarist Bob Vann. Also featured was the commercially inclined "Politely Insane", which was written and recorded on the same day. Brass was later added, and the track provided the label with the single they wanted.

FOREST - FOREST
A really nice album of trippy rock tracks with lots of nice folksy touches! These songs are filled with so much imagination, color, charm, and melancholy solitude, that they just transport you to a place between worlds! Deep into a forest between consciousness and vivid dreamscape... thats where this will take you. The group's a trio, all of whom sing lead vocals from time to time, and instrumentation includes organ, harmonium, piano, percussion, guitars, electric harpsichord, mandolin, and cello: all swirling around in a style that's got traces of late work by Tim Hardin, Love, Nico, and early Roy Wood. Titles include "Bad Penny", "Fading Light", "A Fantasy You", "While You're Gone", "Do You Want Some Smoke", and "Rain Is On My Balcony". Excellent!

FOREST - FULL CIRCLE
This album has both brutal and beautiful elements, and the raw acoustic tunes create weird and very enchanting music. There are much medieval influences here, but the overall aesthetics are not luckily very idealized or fantasy related, but sincere and realistic, filled with mystery, misery and violence. Music is peaceful but partly disturbing too. "Bluebell" was quite good track, and the last song "Autumn Childhood" is very weird with strange rhythm changes and several parts. "The Midnight Hanging of A Runaway Serf" was also quite affecting in its brutality and realism. "Graveyard" is also very beautiful and quite accessible song, but maybe best of them all is "Gypsy girl & Rambleway", describing a love affair with very raw medieval sounds. Highly recommended!

PANAMA LIMITED - INDIAN SUMMER
Late 60's jugband blues outfit led by Denis Parker alongside Gary Compton (harmonica) and Brian Strachan (guitar), the Panama Limited Jugband, also named after a Bukka White song (from 1930). The band was based in the Richmond area of London, which at the time was kind of a hotbed for blues (the Crawdaddy Club), especially acoustic style blues. Shortly thereafter, however, Denis became disenchanted with the music business. Thankfully he left us these recordings as an artefact. They shortened their name to Panama Ltd. for a second album by which time Liz Hann, their vocalist, had left and been replaced by Anne Matthews. On this better second album their early jugband sound is replaced by a brand of Beefheart - influenced rock.

PARRENIN, EMMANUELLE - MAISON ROSE
We begin by saying that this is an album unlike any other. A bold statement, perhaps. Yet look in the "Scented Gardens of the Mind" book and you will see this description: "a revelation of a folk album, with songs of incredible beauty and innovative arrangements. It features traditional instruments you've hardly ever heard before and touches of the avant-garde. Play this album directly after that of another randomly chosen female folk album, and you will notice the difference! This is one of the best!" Parrenin had been part of a traditional "antique folk" movement in France in the late 1960s (she was in many ways a French equivalent to Sandy Denny or Mandy Morton); indeed, she had recorded eight albums with musicians from this scene before "Maison Rose"-her best, and last album, recorded in 1976 and released the following year. The record seems to alternate between a cosmic take on an ancient Breton sound, and delicate, multi-tracked ballads-ranging from sounds that would not be out of place on an Ash Ra Tempel album to elements of traditional French folk music (including home-made instruments) that are just as exotic. Certainly, the avant-garde edge lurking beneath the simple folkiness of "Maison Rose" puts in mind the explorations of Brigitte Fontaine with her sometime musical voyager Areski; there are also suggestions of the pastoral caranavserai aesthetic of Vashti Bunyan, as well as the multi-track sensuality of Linda Perhacs (to name two much-touted singers who seem to have a similar ability to enchant). But Parrenin has her own style, her music has its own deeply ethereal quality, and the album itself has its own magic spell to cast that renders comparison with other albums unimportant in the end. Magnificent. we say. Now, on to the presentation-the highest quality mastering and pressing (done at Acoustech Mastering/RTI in California, the same people who master and press every title that audiophile label Classic Records makes); the resulting LP is housed in a poly-lined sleeve, inside an ultra-heavy 1960's style gatefold jacket, which is housed in a loose-fitting plastic sleeve. Inside the sleeve, you will find an insert with full details on Ms. Parrenin, printed on 100% recycled paper. The LP labels are replicas of the originals. A top of the line pressing all the way. REPRESSED! Not many progressive rock bands took religious and spiritual influences further into their music than Quintessence. SANDHY & MANDHY - PARA CASTUKIS
Here at last is a chance to discover why people have been willing to pay a very steep price to hear Sandhy & Mandhy, the duo who were not a duo, the band who were not a band, creators of perhaps the rarest and most expensive album from Argentina. To tell the story of Sandhy & Mandhy, we have to go back to 1967, when Alberto Infusino (Sandhy) and Alberto Vanasco (Mandhy) began their musical partnership in the beat band The New Free Men. Like many bands of that time, Los Shakers and Los Walkers, for example, the New Free Men played covers of songs by the Zombies, Animals, Kinks, Yardbirds, Doors, and so on, in clubs and at parties. Yet at the same time, Infusino and Vanasco started to play their own compositions, with a national touch to the music. They recorded the album in three hours, with a full band (Farfisa organ, congas, drums, bass, and guitars)-one take of each song. Instead of a demo, they decided to press an LP: the company (Phonalex) pressed 110 LPs in total, which the band gave out at gigs. Sandhy & Mandhy were one of the first bands in South America bring a rebellious attitude to the music scene-all this in a period of military repression, when forced haircuts in the streets were a common occurrence. Although they broke new ground, success was not their fate. And so thirty-eight years after the burst of improvisation that was Sandhy & Mandhy, the rest of the world can finally take a taste of their dark, groovy, beat-influenced psychedelia (that fuzz guitar on the excellent Lluvia!). At times introspective and acoustic, at others manic and ramshackle in the best way, its quite a discovery. SECOND HAND - DEATH MAY BE YOUR SANTA CLAUS
Second album of the British psychedelic band from the late 1960s, released in 1971. The group led by Ken Elliott was originally called The Next Collection in the mid-1960s. They changed their name to Moving Finger, but when it was discovered that another band already had that name, they renamed themselves Second Hand, in reference to the fact that all their instruments and other gear had been bought used. In this album fully developed progressive compositions and all kinds of keyboards dominate, producing very different textures. The rhythms are complex and unusual. Spirogyra were one of the bands of the late English folk revival that embraced progressive-rock and psychedelia. STEVENS, MEIC - OUTLANDER
Meic Stevens may not be a familiar name in much of the world, but in his native Wales the singer-songwriter's stature is often compared to that of Bob Dylan. He was a local legend whose psych-folk influence can be heard in such contemporary Welsh groups as Super Furry Animals and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. His one English-language album is this 1970 Outlander, an outstanding marriage of musicianship and eclecticism. Its jazz-Indo-psych ragas merge seamlessly with its acid folksongs and Dylan-esque meditations on relationships and politics. Performed by a remarkable cast of musicians hand-picked by English rock tastemaker Ian Samwell, Outlander was created with a minimum of rehearsal and consists largely of first takes.

A BOLHA - UM PASSO A FRENTE
Brazilian band the Bubbles became the toast of the underground Rio de Janeiro scene, backing Tropicalist singer Gal Costas residence at the Sucata night club in 1970. They won the "Best Band of the Festival" award at the VII FIC of 1971 (International Festival of Songs), the same year they appeared on Lenos "Vida y obra de Johnny McCartney" album. After venturing to England to attend the Isle of Wight Festival, they decided to experiment with a heavier sound, more akin to UK bands of that era (Deep Purple, Cream, King Crimson, Humble Pie, with a little Beatles "White Album" in for good measure) than that of their Brazilian cohorts. A name change to A Bolha later, still loaded with verve and swagger, fueled by drugs, they recorded their first album, which has secured a permanent place as one of the best hard psych rock albums to ever emerge from South America. The LP, "Um Passo a frente" (A step forward), was released in 1973 by the Continental label, in a gatefold cover which was quite luxurious for the era. This masterpiece, now impossibly hard to find as an original, certainly made a name for A Bolha in the pantheon of 1970s Brazilian rock. But success in the early 1970s was not like it had once been in the old Jovem Guarda or Tropicalist days, when bands had weekly TV shows to help them become well-known nationwide-and eventually, worldwide. In other words, the meager abilities of Continental to promote the album made it a collectors item, not the fate a band would actively seek for their recordings. Luckily, we at Lion Productions are able to present these recordings to the world all over again, with the additional benefit of a 20-page booklet with band history, photos, and comments on the songs by band leader Renato Ledeira. Includes both sides of the bands infamous hard-rocking 1971 single as bonus tracks.

A PASSING FANCY - A PASSING FANCY (USA)
Revised and expanded version of the much beloved Canadian pop-psych album by A Passing Fancy! This edition has been a long time in the works, with most of the delay resulting from our efforts to make something out of the fragments of mangled stereo master tape that still exist (the previous edition was in mono). All the delays left us with plenty of time to consider the excellence of the album, which has surprising variety: tough garage rock (lead track Im Losing Tonight); beat music influence (singles tracks A Passing Fancy, You're Going Out Of Your Mind, and She Phoned); sunshine pop (I Believe in Sunshine); songs with a social conscience (the discursive Spread Out); and a great acid rock meltdown (Your Trip). These same delays also left us ample opportunity to uncover what had become of the various band members. A bit of searching led us to A Passing Fancy lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and primary song-writer Jay Telfer. He supplied a band history and lyrics for all the songs to round out this revamped edition.

CREATION OF SUNLIGHT - CREATION OF SUNLIGHT
The first reissue taken from the original master tapes. A great album from start to finish, loaded with organ and fuzz guitar, just oozing on acid and sunshine vibe. They formed in 1966 in Long Beach and named themselves THE TORQUES. When the band signed to the Windi label they chaged their name and recorded their acid masterpiece. It's a highlight of west coast psychedelic sunshine pop influenced by the jazzy psychedelia of Strawberry Alarm Clock, packed with gorgeous harmonies, driving hammond, minor keyed melodies and electric guitars. Coming with a 16-page booklet with previously unseen photos provided by the band members.

EL KINTO - COMPLETE COLLECTION
All twenty-two tracks by these Uruguayan legends, whose line-up includes members of Totem and Limonada, and features the compositional abilities of candombe legend Ruben Rada, and his alter-ego, poet/panhandler and acid casualty Eduardo Mateo. El Kinto began their brief but eventful life in music playing in the dark shadows at Orfeo Negro (Black Orpheus), a night club near the Portones de Carrasco in Montevideo, Uruguay. Inspired by the way the Tropicalistas like Os Mutantes were transforming the pop music of Brazil, El Kinto embraced their own native music forms-but, as always, they went a step further: yes, they integrated candombe and bossa nova into beat music, but they also added their own notion of "psicodelics." They experimented with newness in all its variety-new sounds from their guitars, new types of vocal delivery, new ways of striking the drums (with little brooms, with gavels or with the hands), all very uncommon in rock music. As one journalist noted in 1969, "El Kinto, directed by the brilliant Mateo, and amplified to the maximum... creates a frenzy of rhythmic music in which-with force and conviction-pure wave beat is synthesized with the warmth of the African drums." The result of the groups tireless experiments is music which sounds fresh and engaging today. In a world dominated by the commercialization of everything -including (although it is difficult to comprehend) -the arts, all we can say is, thank god for El Kinto! Special slip-case edition comes with an oversize 36-page full-blown booklet packed with photos, detailed band history, and lyrics for this most important of Uruguayan bands.

EYES (UK) - THE ARRIVAL OF THE EYES: COMPLETE..
...Recordings). The Eyes 1965 single, 'When The Night Falls,' produced by the king of compression Shel Talmy, should have made them rich and famous (it didn't). Alan Freeman described it as "truly unforgettable"-a prophetic statement. Later writers, like Cliff Jones in Mojo magazine, have described it as being "raw as an open wound, as sharp as a scalpel blade, and jammed full of sinewy whiplash lead guitar and pounding demonic jungle telegraph drums." And its not as though the rest of the Eyes other recordings lack power and excellence. Sure, their early slices of Mod cool borrowed heavily from the classic 1960s sound of the Who-Mod anthem My Degeneration', the b-side to the Eyes second single, is either a tongue-in-cheek homage to (or an absolute subversive rip on) the Who, and is both funny and cool at the same time. Yet the bands finest cuts, with their blend of innovative guitar feedback/distortion and anthemic songwriting, are equal in stature to rock classics of the era. The Eyes bursts of electronic mayhem were advanced for the time, and they had hooks and harmonies to counterpoint the madness. Thanks to the timeless quality of their great tracks, the band's legacy continues to grow as more and more people discover that long forgotten bands like the Eyes (or Les Fleur Des Lys, to name another) could match heavyweights like the Who, the Kinks and the Small Faces blow for blow, even if only for a fleeting three minutes of pure genius at a time. Contains all the bands output-released and unreleased-including demo versions, alternates, and the entire Pupils Tribute To The Rolling Stones exploitation album from 1966 as a bonus. Fat 24-page booklet is packed with zippy notes on the band, photos, and pages from the bands own fan-club pamphlet.

FLIES - COMPLETE COLLECTION 1965-1968
From the opening riff of the Flies hard-edged debut single for Decca, (Im Not Your) Stepping Stone, you might think that here was a band who were destined for glory-possibly even fame and fortune. But their story, like that of many awe-inspiring UK underground bands from the 1960s, was not a success story. Yes, the Flies had a few other releases on Decca and RCA, none of which attained any chart success. If not for the inclusion of this one slab of fuzz psychedelia on the legendary compilation "Chocolate Soup for Diabetics", the Flies would perhaps have remained unknown to devotees of the 1960s psychedelic scene. Still, this was a band that played major gigs with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, the Moody Blues, and Traffic, and were a big part of the mayhem at the legendary 14-hour Technicolour Dream event in London in 1967; this is a band whose key members founded bands like Please, T2, Bulldog Breed, Gun, and Infinity, and whose producer was Ivor Raymonde, who co-authored and arranged Dusty Springfields big hits for Philips (and also sired Cocteau Twins bassist Simon Raymonde). Although commercial success eluded them, it is fitting that the Flies have now achieved cult fame-their singles, which range from freakbeat to Mark Wirtz-esque pop/psych, merit the acclaim, and their introspective demos are perhaps even better. Contains everything by the Flies-released and unreleased-including demo versions, and alternates, plus a sampling of their the In-Sect "Direct From England" pre-Flies exploitation album from 1965 as a bonus. Fat 20-page booklet is packed with detailed notes on the band, original Decca promotional materials, and plentiful photos.

Rolf-Ulrich Kaisers first attempt to cast a "kosmische" super-group using the rooster of his Ohr and Kosmische Kuriere labels as the backing band for swiss painter (he did the original cover for the Ash Ra Tempel / Timothy Leary Seven-Up album) and gypsy mystic Sergius Golowin, this record can be considered actually as the starter of the Cosmic Jokers saga as it got together for the first time Wallenstein, Witthusser & Westrupp, Klaus Schulze and the enigmatic Jorg Mieke into some sort cosmic allstar-band. An enchanting album where musicians back Golowins spoken-word ramblings with an inspired flow of sound which keeps on rising and falling, sometimes folky, sometimes electronic, always delicate and mystic. GREEN (USA) - THE PLANETS
Green arrived on the alternative rock scene in the mid-80s, amidst a Chicago Renaissance that included bands like Naked Raygun, Big Black, Ministry, Jesus Lizard et al. While Green missed the major label-express that the Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt, and Material Issue rode to fame and fortune, Green continued to tour in Europe and North America, and to make records. Their six previous albums (released in Holland by Megadisc) were lionized and lauded by critics and fans in the pages Trouser Press, Spin, The Village Voice, among others. Green was offering up such frothy guitar pop as She's An Addiction and the riff-happy Up All Night; that Green could also produce something as sublime as Don't Ever Fall in Love With Someone When You're In Love With Someone Else, a strange melange of Association-style pop and Elvis Costello at his Bacharach best, proves that theyre an unfairly overlooked group. But it is Green's new music that we are here to announce. Their latest everlasting gob-stopper of rock, "The Planets," is a great leap forward in the continuing evolution of an iconic underground group. They seem to have channelled their inner Kinks on a few key tracks (cant you just hear Ray Davies singing I Just Cant Remember Your Face or Im Waiting For the Sun), with a dash of Spacemen 3 (its the planets, after all) added to the mix; there are moments of lush beauty (Little Superstar is a perfect example), and in stark contrast, a demented set of instrumentals which might (might) sound a little like a drunken Thelonius Monk working over a Style Council riff, all titled Gomez 7. When asked, the band suggested I end with this statement: "Running the gamut from bubblegum pop to jam rock to glam metal to music hall to Country and Western to film soundtrack to 70s rock, the album includes plenty of hit-material radio-fodder: I Just Can't Remember Your Face, Tonight, and You Silly Cyborg. Come to think of it, this is the last album you will ever need." All housed in a 'Deutsche Grammophone' - style sleeve with alike artwork , as if it concerns Holst composition 'The Planets".

HUNT & TURNER - MAGIC LANDSCAPE (USA)
Fabulous grooving folk rock sounds with plenty of atmosphere, first released by the much beloved Village Thing label in 1972. Ian Hunt and John Turner first teamed-up in the late summer of 1970, the inevitable collaboration of two of the West Country's most sought-after session musicians. String bassist and guitarist Turner had just left the infamous Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra and Hunt, a wizard guitarist and song writer who was already a 'big-name' on the Bristol scene, was looking for a new vehicle for his talents. Both had been spawned by the legendary Bristol Troubadour Club, which Turner had run for several years, and within months the new duo was picking up fans and followers around the UK and in Europe. This album went straight to number six in the Melody Maker folk charts upon its original release. Crystalline acoustic and electric guitars and delicious vocals, backed with electric and string bass and bongos; imagine if you will British band Magna Carta with a guitarist as skilled as Wizz Jones or John Martyn: acoustic instrumentation and strong songs. This edition comes with a 16-page booklet printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy, which contains a small dose of band info, album lyrics, histories of the Village Thing and Saydisc labels by co-founder Gef Lucena, as well as a Village Thing label discography.

MATADORS - MATADORS
Behind the Iron Curtain in the late 1960s, rock music was viewed as downright dangerous. The Matadors, from the former Czechoslovakia, were luckier than most, having enough artistic freedom to be able to sing in English, and even cover Western songs. This nicely packaged reissue includes their only album, as well as singles and other miscellaneous tracks, adding up to twenty-four songs in total. The material ranges from beat to psychedelia, and includes instrumentals, as well as vocal tracks sung in both Czech and English. While the covers are undeniably good, the original material is great. Songs like "Hate Everything except of Hattered", "Indolence," and "Get Down from the Tree" (which was featured on Rhinos Nuggets II compilation) are intense rock performances propelled by Radim Hladks sharp lead guitar work, and made mysterious by Jan "Farmer" Obermajers dark organ and Viktor Sodomas accented vocals. Songs like the instrumental Extraction, are more psychedelic, begging comparison to Pink Floyd instrumentals like Interstellar Overdrive and A Saucerful of Secrets, sounding like both at times during its five minutes and fifty-one seconds. Terrific collection of one of the greatest of all bands trapped behind the Iron Curtain. Liner notes have band history, as well as some nice photos.

OPHIUCUS - OPHIUCUS
Ophiucus may be the name of an obscure constellation, but it's also the name of a French band that recorded an exceptional album in 1972 for the Barclay label. All the members of the band had already enjoyed ample success in music before musician/actor Emmanuel Booz brought them together in 1971: Jean-Pierre Pouret was a well-known session-man for Sylvie Vartan; brothers Alain and Bernard Labacci released albums as Tom & Jerry, and supported Jimi Hendrix for a TV appearance; Michel Bonnecarrere had founded the band Zoo (one of Andy Votel from the B-Music labels favorites), and was one of the composers, arrangers and musicians for that groups first two albums. Apropos of the period, the band members decided to live together as a small family in Flagy, a small town in France, where they lived a happy life, and wrote the tracks which adorn this reissue. This ambitious album somehow manages to blend grungy psychedelic rock, acoustic blues, and densely orchestrated French pop/psych (in an Ilous & Decuyper vein) into an impressive and cohesive whole. Sandy Spencer, cellist and member of Mormos contributed wonderful playing on Ne cherche plus and Inacheve. This reissue includes the original album plus eight bonus tracks in English meant to be the basis of an international album that was never issued. A fulsome 28-page booklet includes band history and commentaries on the songs written by Ophiucus, photos, lyrics (French and English), and a contemporary review.

SHANKAR, ANANDA - A MUSICAL DISCOVERY OF INDIA/SA..
...Re Ga Machan". OK, so everyone knows that the oft-reissued Ananda Shankar & his Music has been considered legendary since the inclusion of Streets of Calcutta and Dancing Drums on a Blue Note break-beat compilation. But what most people don't know is that there is plenty more material of the same caliber. Later, rarer albums like the two included on this single CD yield equally impressive music with plenty of tracks waiting to be discovered by adventurous Djs! The seven tracks on A Musical Discovery of India were included on a 45 RPM 12" made for India Tourism Development Corp., released by EMI Gramophone India in 1978. Kaziranga Beat is a terrific long jam highlighting the tabla, and other tracks like Namaskar, The Hill Train, Akbar's Jewels, and Brindavan Revel, all have their champions. Then came Sa-Re-Ga Machan, a funky, strange, and exotic madhouse from 1981, which may be the true masterpiece among Ananda Shankars albums. His rarest record, it is filled to the brim with hard driving funk and trippy exotica(Jungle King even reprises Streets of Calcutta). The material ranges from dreamy swirling instrumentals with electronics and sitar, to deep exotica with organs, flutes, tablas & string sections that will devastate you with their beauty. To most people, "India's greatest musician" means Ravi Shankar; but it was Ravi's nephew Ananda Shankar who became the voice of modern India in all its contrasting elements. In ways never previously imagined? Much less executed by other master musicians he alone merged Indian and western, classical and rock traditions; he alone merged the lyrical and the funky, the exotic and the commercial, the traditional and the progressive.

SHINKI CHEN & HIS FRIENDS - SHINKI CHEN & HIS FRIENDS
Wild pre-Speed Glue & Shinki album from 1971 of extra heavy fuzz guitar and truly wasted vocals, one of the absolute cornerstones of Japanese psychedelia; In fact, to many people, this is the ultimate psych album from Japan; it starts with a very strange sounding, avant-garde phased tape machine track, before letting fly with the drug damaged histrionics; onwards they come, one after the next, blunt Neanderthal songs about drugs & girls: "I'm so mad / I'll walk on the streets with no clothes / Sneak into a woman's bath 'n rape any girl / They'll just say I'm a freak / I'm so mad" (from Freedom of a Mad Paper Lantern)-if this was sung in Japanese they would have banned it. but it isnt, and they didnt. Tracks such as "Requiem of Confusion, Gloomy Reflections, and the Corpse tell you where its at for Shinki Chen.

Their second album To Pagham & Beyond, originally released in 1970, brings strong elements of jazz and skillfully executed Hammond and sax solos into the mix for a more multi-layered eclectic sound.

SUN ALSO RISES - THE SUN ALSO RISES (USA)
Superb sought-after 1970 British acid folk rarity from the Village Thing label. The Sun Also Rises is another case of a folk/psych duo who virtually disappeared in the flesh, once they had left behind a small but fascinating recorded legacy. They were Graham and Anne Hemingway from Cardiff, described everywhere as a mystical, magical hippie female and male folk duo, who played guitars, dulcimer, glockenspiel, vibes, bells, kazoo, percussion-joined throughout by label-mate John Turner (bowed and finger-picked string bass), and Andy Leggett. Their one and only album is very much in the creative style and delivery of the Incredible String Band, with similarities to the work of their contemporaries Dr. Strangely Strange, COB, Comus, Forest and Tir Na Nog, as well as others of the original freak-folk brigade. The results of their efforts were tripped-out, spellbinding, esoteric folk collages-songs of wizards and dragons, dreams and intentions, love, flickering candlelight, the sweet scent of half-remembered summers, death, jasmine, and suicide. We hope that this album will come as a wonderful surprise for lovers of the Incredible String Band and their ilk, as there were few bands that were able to stray into this much loved and much loathed world of fantasy and folk music, and live to tell the tale. Our Lion Productions edition comes with a 16-page booklet printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy, which contains a small dose of band info, album lyrics, histories of the Village Thing and Saydisc labels by co-founder Gef Lucena, as well as a Village Thing label discography.

SUNFOREST - SOUND OF SUNFOREST (US)
There was once a band called Sunforest, who recorded a splendid album in 1969. The record is (as has been said elsewhere) a unique compendium of UK acid folk with a popsike feel, sporting harpsichord and (somewhat) medieval-tinged arrangements integrated into electric and acoustic folk-esque tunes. But one thing must be said straight away: the Sunforest album is not at all twee the songs are far too clever, and the production (by legendary producer Vic Coppersmith-Heaven) has far too much depth we say this despite cover art that seems to have misled people since the album was released. Worthy of special mention is the phenomenal folk/funk vibe-fest 'Magician In The Mountain,' which has made this LP the object of desire of many a DJ and a sampler. And, of course, lest we forget, the Sunforest album supplies the answer to the recent burning question (for those of you living in the UK): What's that song on the Marks and Spencer TV advert the one with Twiggy and those other girls in it, singing, "I want to marry a lighthouse keeper. Why, it's Lighthouse Keeper, of course! The sound of Sunforest was enlivened by contributions from exceptional and experienced studio musicians. On this album, you can hear supple work from bass guitarist par excellance Herbie Flowers (it's his bass that makes Lou Reed's 'Walk on the Wild Side' one of the best late-night songs ever written; he also played bass on the Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson). He was joined for the Sunforest sessions by his compatriot in the Jean-Claude Vannier Orchestra, guitarist on an incredible variety of UK number one hit songs (fifty-nine to be exact), including the Kink's 'You Really Got Me, Thunderclap Newman's "Something in the Air, and Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg's orgasmic classic 'Je t'aime... moi non plus': session-guitarist extraordinaire (and the mastermind behind the Lord Sitar and Sitar Beat albums), Big Jim Sullivan. Yes, here on the Sunforest album these two titans of UK rock can be found working with another legend, Vic Smith, on what turned out to be the only release from a trio of unpretentious girls, discovered in a cafe. Ah, the wondrous 1960's! Includes a 20-page booklet with additional insider information on the band, as well as lyrics. Licensed from Decca/Universal, UK.

T2 - T2
Even though fame and fortune never came to pass for T2, their Decca album "Itll All Work out in Boomland" has become an all-time classic amongst collectors of progressive and psychedelic music, and even in the techno and dj scenes. Apart from a 1970 Sound of the 70s BBC radio session, (included on our Acme/Lion reissue of "Itll All Work Out in Boomland," ACLN 1010 CD), fans assumed that "Boomland" was both the beginning and the end of the groups recorded legacy. But Acme Records unearthed an eponymous second album of material, recorded in 1970 with the original line-up as demo tracks for a planned second album. This was first released way back in the late 1990s, and is now available again thanks to the new Acme/Lion version which is the subject of this one-sheet. This second T2 album, had it been released in 1970, could have put the band on the same level of fame with the likes of Deep Purple, Free, and King Crimson (bands with whom T2 shared a stage). Its hard-driving opener Highway, ablaze with wailing guitars, gives way to moody introspection, culminating with the LSD induced finale T2. Those of you who were lucky enough to snap up a copy of the limited Acme Deluxe pressings of this album many years ago now can testify to the importance of these recordings. For those of you who missed out the first time around-or who have only recently discovered the greatness of the mighty T2-all we can say is, enjoy the power and glory of the second T2 album!

THIRD ESTATE - AGONISTES (2CD)
Third Estate's "Years Before the Wine" is an ambitious and intricate psychedelic concept album from 1976 about the French Revolution which blends warm Southern summer sounds (the band were from Baton Rouge, Louisiana) with baroque song structures. Never fear, the serious subject matter is no match for the strong songwriting and light, flowing music. Stunning vocals from Fae Ficklin on the title track are lovely, but even without them this album would richly deserve its status as a psychedelic classic. Stark, intimate production, with tasty fuzz guitar, backwards tape-loop soundscapes and beautiful treated acoustic guitar, puts one in mind of the Ithaca/Agincourt/Friends trilogy from England. The sound of exploration is evident everywhere, as the band spreads its wings, and glorious harmonies flow forth. The previously unreleased album recorded as Agonistes (1973) shows that the later recordings were no fluke. It can stand alone as one of the most beguiling folk/psych albums weve ever heard. Additional bonus tracks include singles and home demos. Budget-priced double disc package includes a 28-page color booklet, with histories of both groups by band co-leader Robert Everett, as well as lyrics for all the songs included herein.

VARIOUS - WE ARE NOT TOGETHER
A collection of rare tracks recorded at MAG studios in Lima, Peru between 1968 to 1974 by members of We all together along with various musician friends of the time (and a few relatives too). Some of the songs are originals, others are covers-what they all have in common is the musical skill that Carlos Guerrero, Sal Cornejo, Manuel Cornejo, Ernesto Samam, Flix Varvarande and Carlos Salom brought to these varied projects-some recorded prior to, some after the creation of their great band. Eight different groups of musicians (Illicit, Smog, Carlos Guerrero & Nilo Espinosa orquesta, FE 59, Cerro Verde, Beto Villena & We All Together, and Monik) produced rich and varied music of uniform excellence! Audio mastered from the original tapes using tube amplifiers by Sal Cornejo, Miguel Yance and Andrs Tapia in MCA Studios, Lima - Per; watercolors and drawings painted by Manuel Cornejo during 1970 -1972.

GONN - DON'T NEED YOUR LOVIN'
Gonn only had one solitary single released back in the mid-1960s - an amazing song called Blackout of Gretely, on the local Emir label. This was later re-issued on one of the long-running volumes in the Pebbles series, making the band more famous than they ever were whilst they were still together. Another self-penned song, Doin Me In, was scheduled to be their second single. However, their performance was just too unhinged for their times and the release was shelved. The song later appeared on the Nuggets CD box set. Dont Need Your Lovin was recorded during this same period, late 1966. Though most well known by the Chocolate Watch Band, through their live performance in the film Riot on Sunset Strip, this version could have been produced by no one else other than GONN - its teen garage punk with everything turned up to 10. One of the toughest garage bands of their time, with manic screams, raw, throat-shredding vocals, fuzzed-out guitar, out-of-control echo and crazed lyrics, no one else could come close to the intensity of these kids.

 ROCK INDIANA
BISCUIT - TIME FOR ANSWERS
On 'Rock Indiana' label. "Biscuit is one of those (rare) bands than take their inspiration mainly from 60s sounds (beat, garage, psychedelia, freakbeat, hard-rock, folk-rock, soul, rocknroll) but do not sound like just another 60s band. Their sound is uniquely their own, and trying to compare them to another band is so silly that lazy reviewers come out with comparisons as diverse as Urge Overkill, Soundtracks of Our Lives, the Byrds or The Prisoners in the same line. Which of course are all wrong. What is sure right is that these guys have a good thing going when it comes to combine meaty, solid guitar riffs with beautiful melodies. They know the secret of how to make well-crafted, passionate songs, the kind that grow with every listen. They can rock as fuck one minute and melt your heart the next. You can feel the anger, rage and desperation in their songs, but also the gratefulness, love and tenderness. You can feel the people behind the music. In a phrase, they've got soul. In my book, a truely classic record".

Quique Pazos (Honky Tonkin' Boozers's doublebass player) sees his little cousin Nestor buyin' a guitar and playin' & singin' at home. They begin to play old country songs and to record music of Hank Williams or Al Ferrier. Later, having the need of a different sound, they start playing Rock & Roll, and they give a call to Ramon Corona (HTB's Guitar player), and this is the moment of the band to start. Four months later, Santi Roma in the drums, they record a few songs and start playing in different places of Spain.

A stunning garage band to come out of Dublin, The Revellions were originally an instrumental surf band. With a pounding rhythm section, a swirling Farfisa keyboard, a guitar player shooting out riffs like early morning target practice and a psychotic vocalist screaming like a drunken banshee, The Revellions know how to keep it primitive. SUZY & LOS QUATTRO - THE SINGLES
In two years, Suzy & Los Quattro developed from the time-killing just-for-fun project of Barcelona (Spain) sweethearts BB & Suzy Quattro, to 2005 powerpop sensation with their solid gold debut on No Tomorrow Records, frrom recording demos in their bedroom to touring Japan in support of their first album "Ready to Go!". It is now a year since they released their debut and it looks like Miss Suzy and her boys will take some more months to give us their next album, so to make the wait shorter weve decided to compile all the tracks they released before the LP in singles, E.P.s (all deleted now) and comps in this nice low-priced CD. The CD includes the five tracks of their debut CD-EP, the two excellent tracks from their single with ex - Adverts frontman T.V. Smith, two songs from their long-deleted single for Screaming Apple Records and two songs taken from compilations: their D.D. Ramone tribute song "Im not glad to see you go" and their excellent Twisted Sister by way of Joan Jett cover of "Were not gonna take it" a live show-stopper since their first shows".

THINGS - SOME KIND OF KICK
Consists of 14 killer tunes taken from an impressive almanac of sleazy rock n roll, built up by The Things over the past half decade but influenced by all the dirtiest sounds of the last half-century. The album recorded partly in Berlin at an ex-Nazi propaganda broadcast house comestudio. These sessions were produced by Fabien Lessure, The rest of the record was produced by Leo Pearson in Kilkenny, Ireland. This cracking debut album will almost serve as a greatest hits to existing fans and surely open the floodgates for a whole new army of disciples for this cult Dublin Quintet.Few bands in history have had the unholy raw power of The Things in a live environment. Finally, Some Kind Of Kick has blessed us with the opportunity to take the madness home with us and enjoy it in stereo sound.

I saw these guys on a boat and thought they were the best band I have seen while skimming on the Pacific Ocean! From the first few chords they reminded me of Jerry's Kids. Like very early Jerry's Kids, as well as a slew of other early 80s bands, but 1 minute into a song everything changed and I thought, "Now they sound like The Bananas!". Yea I put a quote on thoughts. So what?! The day they all graduated from high school they left for their first US tour. They even do "Dicks Hate Police". --Todd/Recess

Drain the Sky formed during September 2005, in Oakland, CA. Memphis and Bay Area hardcore/punk veterans collaborate to create visceral, atmospheric, threatening music that seeks to collapse (musical and other) boundaries. This EP contains four Songs recorded by Salvador Raya at Ear Hammer Studio, Oakland. The music is a perfect mix between previous bands theses guys were in (Dimlaia, His Hero Is Gone...). Beautyfull paintings and drawings of Carl Auge. 500 copies on black vinyl.

SERPENTCULT - TRIDENT NOT FIRE (10")
A strictly limited gatefold 10" pressing of only 500 copies on heavyweight black vinyl. Trident Nor Fire is the rather unique debut EP from Belgium's Serpent Cult and this shit is heavy. I'm talking just ridiculously dense, churning, downtuned riffs galore gelling together with plodding pulses of bass and thundering percussion - all alongside great (and wholly unexpected) female vocals that only add to the band's atypical stance within this particular realm of metal. It's slow, but not too slow. Sludgy, but not too sludgy. So, yeah. it basically rules. The sheer fury and mass of some of the rhythms actually reminds me of the mighty Crowbar to some degree, but with more of a doomy sort of 'contemporary Sabbath' thing going on. Hell, they close with a cover of Uriah Heep's 'Rainbow Demon', so that sort of gives you an idea of where some of their influences are coming from, but. rest assured the end result's definitely 1,000 times more crushing!

BAKERTON GROUP - BAKERTON GROUP (PD)
THE BAKERTON GROUP is the instrumental alter ego of the rock band CLUTCH. Taking a sidestep from the token Clutch sound. The debut full length, recorded at The Magpie Cage in Baltimore, MD. by J. ROBBINS of JAWBOX fame, is now available. "Clutch has always incorporated heavy, blues-based jams into their super charged hard rock tunes. Collectively known as The Bakerton Group, fourth-fifths of Clutch (bassist DAN MAINES, guitarist TIM SULT, drummer JEAN-PAUL GASTER, and keyboardist MICK SCHAUER) have created an album made up entirely of late '60s and '70s-inspired, instrumental jams infused with hot blues, funky grooves, and psychedelic rock trips on this self-titled affair. Best of all, this is no mere, middling side project with a lot of fucking about. It is an outstanding album with a nostalgic familiarity and ace songwriting that rivals the greats."-Blabbermouth.

Featuring members of Sourvein, Storm at Sunrise, Archie Bunker and Las Cruces!!! First its the almighty cowbell. Then its a nasty guitar sting and a whirling organ. Then... hell, they had me at the cowbell. Halfway into "Hell on Its Knees," the opening track, and MY knees are bruised from being on the ground, praising the boogie rock gods for gracing us with this sextet. Proudly carrying the banner handed down by the likes of Grand Funk Railroad and Humble Pie, Blood of the Sun deliver the southern monster metal boogie with ease-the-seat-back confidence and righteous swagger. Thick, certified Angus Beef-riffs, tight arrangements graced with the perfect amount o shimmy room, Greg Allman-on-acid organ fills, requisite "whiskey woman" lyric check, wah solos, the Mountain reference in the name; its all perfect for eating red meat to.

BLOOD OF THE SUN - DEATH RIDE
Blood of the Sun has finally delivered an album that shows what they're truly capable of. Death Ride is a feast for those weaned on The Allman Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Cactus, Deep Purple, and all the other heavy hitters from the glorious era of '70's rock, for those who understand that it's possible to be technically skilled as a musician but not sound cold and calculating. Death Ride is a riotous trip, overflowing with rock 'n' roll excess. You know the saying "Everything old is new again?" That's the case with Death Ride. People who say there's no good music from this decade haven't heard this one yet. Includes fantastic cover version of a LUCIFER'S FRIEND track.

BROCAS HELM - INTO BATTLE (PD)
When I think of US Epic Metal, there's not much better than BROCAS HELM! Even though their songs lack the length of what most people consider Epic Metal, their very strong songwriting is of the Epic Metal style and that more than makes up for it! BROCAS HELM is truly one of a kind HEAVY METAL! Their style strives from the 70s rock and metal and the N.W.O.B.H.M. with a heavy IRON MAIDEN influence. They also fall into similar sound categories as OMEN, MANILLA ROAD, and later on (of course) THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG. Theyre unique, authentic, quirky, and amazing! This pressing of the original LP was inspired because I wanted to have this as a missing piece in my collection next to my Doomed Planet Records BROCAS HELM - "Black Death" Picture Disc. This release includes the new re-issue artwork the band wanted to originally use (the label changed the color on the CD re-issue). Because the "Black Death" Picture Disc was limited to 500, this release will be also.

DRAGONSLAYER - DRAGONSLAYER (2LP)
LIMITED 2 LP SET! This long-forgotten band from the N.W.O.B.H.M. is finally un-earthed for the first time ever since the 80s. They were originally called HEAVY THUNDER and then quickly changed their name to be the very first band with the name SLAYER! Some of this album contains songs when they were called SLAYER, the others of course were eventually DRAGONSLAYER. SLAYER/DRAGONSLAYER never really had a record deal and only one official release (as DRAGONSLAYER), which was a 3 song 7" Single/E.P. back in 1984. This release combines their efforts from their 1982 Demo, 1984 7" Single, and 1986 Demo. For the first time ever all of these songs will be officially released still in their original quality. Its a shame this band was never picked up by a label back then because if there ever was a truly underground N.W.O.B.H.M. band that was looked over, it was Dragonslayer! Theres a huge early JUDAS PRIEST influence here, also the usual SCORPIONS, UFO, DEEP PURPLE, SABBATH influence as well. I really think the songwriting is amazing, layered with solid high vocals, catchy riffs, and memorable choruses, you know the stuff the N.W.O.B.H.M. was built on. For the first time ever DRAGONSLAYER would love to consider this their very first album, but really its a double album! Tracks: 1. The Slayer 2. Run Like Hell 3. Blind Terror 4. I Want Your Life 5. Satan Is Free 6. Broken Hearts 7. Man In The Dark 8. Hammer Head 9. Lady Of The Night 10. Rock With Me 11. Lies In Your Eyes 12. Dragon Drums 13. The Hunger 14. Satan's Soldiers 15. The Battle Is On 16. Catch Me

EGYPT - EGYPT
Limited edition of only 500 copies! Deluxe gatefold sleeve! Mastered by James Plotkin. It's laid back stoner jams convey the arid desert of the Sahara. Sabbath (duh) dutifully rears its head amongst the influences, but not to the point where youre hearing duplicate riffs exported from the '70s. There's also a more straightforward Hawkwind and classic Deep Purple style to the demo, as if Geezer had replaced Lemmy and the whole gang went on a shrooms bender, meeting up with Richie Blackmore later on for a couple of pints. Obviously, this is good stuff, and worth seeking out if youre looking for something to jumpstart your love of good ol' heavy bluesy doom rock.

ENERGY VAMPIRES - ENERGY VAMPIRES (2LP)
In 1989 ENERGY VAMPIRES rose out of the ashes of the cult legendary US Metal band SLAUTER XSTROYES whom I happen to think are one of the greatest metal bands ever. The only member from SLAUTER XSTROYES to form this band was lead vocalist Jonathon Stewart, which to me is still one of the best vocalists ever. Infact, he's right up there with legandary voices such as Rob Halford and King Diamond, if not better. The music is very much a continuation of legendary SLAUTER XSTROYES sound and even 2 songs from the SLAUTER days were re-recorded on this album. This was originally only released as a tape of 500 copies back in the early 90's. You can check out some great videos of them on www.youtube.com. Absolutely essential album with bonus tracks. One of the bonus songs was just recently finished in 2007 as an extra treat for you and me! Both CD and LP versions will have some of the most amazing band photos I've ever seen. Artwork done by the well respected Dimitar.

HIDDEN HAND - RESURRECTION OF WHISKEY (COLOR)
Limited edition of only 250 copies on transparent blue vinyl. Deluxe gatefold sleeve. The Hidden Hand unleash another epic masterpiece, The Resurrection of Whiskey Foote. Lyrically the band has evolved from their previous politically charged content also incorporating historical story based lyricism. Musically there is a subtle southern or classic rock vibe (ala killer slide playing from Wino and even some Harp by Michael Anthony Miller) that creeps into the foundation of their brand of dark, heavy, progressive rock. Only a lineup consisting of the capable 'rock-veterans' that make up the Hidden Hand can properly pull off an album of this magnitude. Vocalist/songwriter Scott WINO Weinrich (Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Place of Skulls and contributor to Dave Grohls' Probot album) is joined by the kick-ass rhythm section of bassist/vocalist Bruce Falkinburgh (who also recorded the album) and drummer Evan Tanner. The union of these 3 incredible musicians produces a unique sound force that is setting a precedence that most bands will find impossibly challenging to match."

IRONSWORD - OVERLORDS OF CHAOS (BLACK) (2LP)
Limited edition in deluxe gatefold sleeve. The one and only IRONSWORD, hailing from Portugal is back with a very long anticipated album! Going strong for well over a decade now, IRONSWORD is the only band that is not only influenced by the Epic Metal masters, MANILLA ROAD, but they are the only band that sounds closest to MANILLA ROAD (somewhere in the Open The Gates/The Deluge/Mystification era MANILLA ROAD). Speaking of MANILLA ROAD, there will be a special appearance of Mark Shelton singing along with Tann (what an honor)!!! "Overlords Of Chaos" is going to be their 3rd full-length effort and to me sounds much more focused and diverse. The overall song writing is more developed, memorable, and with more catchy chorus lines than the 2 previous, but classic albums. This album from the amazing artwork provided by Martin Hanford to the last note on the album will blow all fans of Epic Metal away!

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST - JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
Limited edition of only 300 copies on black vinyl. The music reminds of early Corrosion Of Conformity, Poison Idea, Battalion Of Saints, and even at times Crucifix. They definitely have a mid 80s sound going for them. Rock and metal overtones played at a mid-tempo to fast pace, but straight up punk rock. The vocals are yelled or screamed but phonetic so that you can understand what is being sung. Their guitars are crunchy and bright, so they sound warm opposed to dirty. Bass is nice and clean but punchy and also warm. The drumming is more than competent with a sound that's reminiscent of early drummers from the So Cal scene.

KARMA TO BURN - ALMOST HEATHEN
"I think it's safe to say this album rocks at least as hard, if not much harder than anything that's come out this year so far. They seemed to of given the songs more room to build and breathe a little this time out(most of the songs are over 5 minutes), which makes the main riffs sound even heavier than before. Some really triumphant shit going on here as well. " Riffs that touch your spine in all those dirty ways. Instrumental rock that never gets boring and grooves you even if you don't want to."

Limited edition of only 100 copies. King of Salem is comprised of drummer Mike Petrucci and guitarist/bassist/vocalist Simon Tuozzoli. Theres a definite 70s influence in Tuozzoli's guitar, but his vocals come from somewhere more metallic. Recorded in Tuozzolis own Up Recording Studio by the guitarist himself, Prophecy is and isn't just plain sub-metallic rock. There is little to ponder in terms of highly complicated techniques or sophisticated, overly done arrangements, but as an outlet for a less complex sound, it can have a beer with me anytime. Im a sucker for well-done traditional songwriting anyway, and King of Salem has that and more on offer over the course of these eight tracks. PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS - MERCY
The story of PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS begins within the confines of a paltry Midwestern town in Illinois called Peoria. Peoria, only hours away from big city living in Chicago, was culture starved and nothing like the northern city by the lake. It was this very atmosphere that fueled the raw, somber and fervent songs that PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS would ultimately become so well known for. Formerly on the emo lighthouse Deep Elm and then landing on the fiercely independent No Idea, PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS have come a long way since those early day as they are now the cusp of releasing their Abacus debut Mercy. The band's appeal crosses genre divides, often shows have as many metal heads and hardcore fans as emo fans requesting material from early in the band's career. Produced by Matt Bayles (MASTODON, MINUS THE BEAR etc.), Mercy is another step forward in the progression of a band who challenges themselves along the path of life. Colored vinyl.

ACROSS TUNDRAS - WESTERN SKY RIDE
If you play that Neurosis/Isis strain of music, how are you going to set yourself apart from the likes of Tides, Mouth of the Architect, Souvenir's Young America, Angel Eyes, Disappearer, and all the other groups that have tread the same narrow path this year? If you're Denver's Across Tundras, you embrace your inner shitkicker and bury the vocals low in the mix. Acorss Tundras' sprawling compositions have more of a rock feel. It's as if they're playing something that, if sped up, could actually boogie. There's also a twangy aftertaste, a hint of alt-country. That could draw comparisons to Earth's Hex: Or Printing in the Infernal Method, but Across Tundras isn't that ethereal and sparse. They're melancholy yet forward moving, and overall they live up to their billing of unleashing a 'powerful new statement of rustic, crushing Americana.

ALTAR OF OBLIVION - SINEWS OF ANGUISH
A brand new Epic Heavy Metal band with Doom touches has emerged from the great Denmark. I received their Demo in 2007 and was blown away by the potential this band had. Martin (guitarist/songwriter) has a really unique riffing style that I love. The riffs are really catchy, heavy, and choppy (for lack of a better word). When you finally get used to his guitar playing youll find out its a signature sound that he developed. The combination of the Epic styled songwriting with some really subtle Doom-y sections mixed with the very young, talented, and uniquely distinct Mik on vocals puts this band to the top of the Epic Heavy/Doom metal scene. If you liked the demo at all (by the way "Wrapped In Ruins" is again featured on this new album) the new album is definitely were you would have wanted the band to be by this time because the songwriting has exceeded the expectation. This album is a full-on conceptual, emotional trip about the pain, suffering, and horrors of war. With that in mind, expect nothing but crushing riffs filled with sorrow, despair, and with powerful vocals with so much emotion, depending on your mood might bring a tear to your eye. ALTAR OF OBLIVION are keeping the Epic Doom torch a flame that was started by the great and well respected bands like CANDLEMASS, SOLSTICE, SOLITUDE AETURNUS, REVELATION, TROUBLE, etc.

Amanda Woodward has a strong driving sound that sets them apart from the previous notions of French hardcore that include the screaming yet melodic emo works by Jasmine, Fingerprint, and countless other crucial French acts. Hoarse vocals that are both sung and yelled in a seemingly simultaneous fashion are one element that elevates Amanda Woodward above their predecessors. Guitar work and drumming that references the hard and energetic indie sound often associated with Drive Like Jehu and .Trail of Dead, Amanda Woodward still manages to retain the emotion and dynamics that are the keystone of emo hardcore.

ARGUS (USA) - ARGUS (SHADOW KINGDOM)
With those of you familiar with Butch era PENANCE (USA Classic Doom), you already know how great his vocals are and those of you who arent will learn soon. ARGUS, a new and hungry band from the USA are very well versed with the Maryland Doom Metal and Epic Heavy Metal scene. They released a very well written Demo in 2007 on John Brenners Bland Hand Records as a download. For those of you that loved the Demo like I did, this is what you would expect their full length to sound and then some! THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG fans are going to go absolutely nuts over this album for the sheer volume of twin axe guitar shredding alone!! There are a lot of catchy, layered riffs on top of many hooks and sing a long choruses. On top of all these well-written Epic songs, there are TROUBLE-eque Doom Metal break downs to die for feathered throughout the album. Shall I say "instant classic"? Thats for you to decide. Look for them to release a 10" EP on one of my favorite labels, The Miskatonic Foundation in the near future as well.

ASYLUM - EARTH IS THE INSANE ASYLUM OF THE..
The legendary Maryland Doom Metal scene was and still is filled with monster bands! ASYLUM (who later changed their name to UNORTHODOX because their old Record Label requested it) is yet another underground gem, never officially released. With only copies of this tape being spread (known as the 1985 Demo) around in trading circles since the time of its recording in 1985, this was one of the harder demos to find. Now for the first time in 23 years, this recording is being officially released. What a treat this is for 80s metal fans too because what most people dont know is that Dale Flood (guitarist/vocalist) is an absolute magician on the axe. His style derives from Progressive 70s Rock like RUSH, YES, DEEP PURPLE, etc mixed with the thunderous and mighty Doom/Heavy riffs from likes of PENTAGRAM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, etc. This is all played together with an amazing rhythm section and who I think is one of the most underrated drummers in Heavy Metal, Ronnie Kalimon. This album has its own mark and sound in the underground and believe me this is no carbon copy of any other band; their unique sound speaks for itself and stands alone! The amazing thing about this recording is that is sounds fresh and new even though its 23 years old. If you love 70s Heavy Rock, 80s Heavy Metal and Doom, you wont believe your ears!

AX - OUR QUEEN OF DIRT
The barebones twosome of guitar and drums is a relatively recent development in popular music, made commonplace by The White Stripes, who were inventive enough to make the pared-down arrangements work. Portland garage-metal-punk duo The Ax aren't as interested in varying the limited template as they are in beefing it up to full power, a throttling twin assault that's intent on crushing the listener like a flapjack. These guys take the funnest part of rock music-the wicked riff-and bring it to the forefront, exaggerating it so that nothing else in the song matters. Our Queen of Dirt is 14 short nuggets of evil-sounding, down-tuned garage rock.

BIBLE OF THE DEVIL - TIGHT EMPIRE
Bible of the Devil's sound is classic: Marshall stacks cranked all the way, bowel-moving bass, and tight speedball drumming. They dominate with dual guitar harmonies and relentless energy and write epic pummelers about barbiturates, Iron Maiden, killin', drinkin', and just being plain ol' scumbags. Bible of the Devil play like they are gearing up to tour with Richie Blackmore's Rainbow way back in '75. Highly recommended for fans of Thin Lizzy, Motorhead, early Aerosmith, Slade, Rainbow and AC/DC

BULLETWOLF - DOUBLE SHOTS OF ROCK AND ROLL
With a chorus of "I need a hundred beers. I need a hundred shots," it's not like Indiana's Bulletwolf didn't warn you what they were all about. This is down and dirty stoner metal, the kind made by a foul mouthed band that stinks up any disreputable bar. In the game of "spot the influence," I'd say Orange Goblin sticks out the most, in terms of both the riffs and the overall drunken attitude, but you can draw comparisons between these guys and any band that plays this sort of ferocious, riff-tastic music

"If you're expecting doom of the traditional variety, you've come to the wrong place. CORE OF THE EARTH - CURTAINS
The Denver, Colorado band is heavy. Heavy as fuck. Somewhat metal, somewhat doom, and very Melvins heavy as fuck, to be exact. The main reference point is still Houdini and Stoner Witch, but seeing how I rate those albums higher than any of the others in the Melvins' discography, it's not a complaint. Curtains is broken into three acts, with the first two focusing on a more conventional sound and the third exploring the more sonically tweaked."

Dali Llama's sixth album is neither sweet nor sludgy. Stripped down to its essence, it's the sum of three separate parts: your garden variety biker rock; the thicker-than-average low fi distortion that's indicative of the desert rock movement; and the simple verse-chorus aesthetic of any garage rock band worth its salt.

DEATH MASK - EXHUMINATION
Deep beneath the Maryland Doom Metal scene in the mid to late 80s DEATH MASK emerged for a short time period. They hardly played that much and went unknown to virtually many Doom Metal collectors because were never able to get this because it was only available as a 6 track demo known as "The Beginning", and it probably didnt get too far outside the Maryland area (I assume). This is a unique band to say the least, but also a very magical sounding band where there are some moments in the music where your jaw will just drop to the sheer innovativeness of the way they put these riffs and songs together. Tom (the guitar player) plays some of the sickest riffs Ive ever heard. Some of the stuff this guy comes up with is out of this world. Some of the songs they put together have like 5-7 amazing riffs in one song whereas a lot of bands rely on 1 or 2 good riffs to carry out a song (which isnt a bad thing either). I hear a ton of ANGEL WITCH, CELTIC FROST, DREAM DEATH, TROUBLE in their darker / doom-y sounds and in their faster thrash-y parts, theres a heavy VENOM, MOTORHEAD vibe. In short theyre best described as a Doom Metal, Thrash Metal band with amazing break downs. The vocals are an acquired taste like a wasted VENOM/MOTORHEAD-ish sound, but one things for sure, this band is the definition of HEAVY!

DRAGONSLAYER - DRAGONSLAYER
Catch Me

ENERGY VAMPIRES - ENERGY VAMPIRES
GENOCIDE (JAPAN) - BLACK SUNCTUARY (2CD)
The 80s Japan Heavy Metal scene is loaded with a ton of great bands and some of those bands are some of the very best bands in the world. To keep it simple this re-issue is for all the die-hard MERCYFUL FATE fans out there. There are very few vocalists in the world that have what I like to call an acrobatic ability. When I think of some of the best vocalists out there with that ability there are 3 names that spring to mind; King Diamond, which we all know, Jonathon Stewart (from SLAUTER XSTROYES and ENERGY VAMPIRES), which some of us know, and the guy in this band (GENOCIDE (Nippon)), Toshihiro Takeuchi. Talk about dynamics, this guy has it all; melodic, imagination, crazy, high falsetto, and he does it in English and Japanese in the same song. Thats not all this band is good for though. The guitar players here are unbelievable! Theyve got an amazing style like Denner and Shermann once had back in the early MERCYFUL FATE days and a lot of their sound has a Doomy feel to it also. This is one of the very best hidden gems in all of Japan and this is top 1-5 records (depending on my mood) of all-time that came out of that country. This re-issue will include re-issue artwork requested by the band. A big thank you goes out to Nicola Solieri for providing this amazing cover. Dont worry, the original cover is provided on the flip side of the booklet. Expect a re-mastered sound with a booklet of photos, lyrics, and a full band history from the 70s to today. HAND OF DOOM - POISONOISE (2CD)
Who in the hell on Earth is THE HAND OF DOOM you ask? Sorry Doom Metal nuts, theyre not Doom at all. BUT. good news, theyre an incredible heavy band from Germany that originally had a limited press album from 1979. You might be surprised when I tell you theyre really a Heavy Rock N Roll Punk / (proto/early) Metal band, and very similar to the early bands that started the N.W.O.B.H.M. that combine early Punk Rock and fused it with Heavy Rock. I think this band will appeal to fans of (of course) 70s era MOTORHEAD, DISCHARGE, BRATS (pre-MERCYFUL FATE band), MC5, THE STOOGES, THE CLASH, SEX PISTOLS, SARCOFAGUS, ACCEPT, 70s era JUDAS PRIEST, DIAMOND HEAD, and all fans of the N.W.O.B.H.M. This is a very unique sounding band, really hard to describe their sound (which is a good thing). This release has 10 bonus tracks (some unreleased).

HEAVY WATER EXPERIMENTS - HEAVY WATER EXPERIMENTS
"The Heavy Water Experiments self titled album, is pure stoner rock. You can almost watch the dark and distorted music floating through the haze of a desolate and scorching desert. Their sound demonstrates deep knowledge of the history of rock n' roll, especially the psychedelic/progressive/stoner rock of the late 60s - early 70s. But don't think of them as revivalists. This is a band playing music beyond seasons, genres and influences. They are generously offering us one hour of true music from their soul, rock n' roll as it should be. Hypnotic, magical, sincere, gimmickless, with no studio tricks or electronic loops, so often used today to create "atmosphere"

IF HE DIES HE DIES - THE RISE...THE FALL
Artwork by Brian Mercer. So if you took the angular, earthy percussive assault of Kylesa or Leviathan era Mastodon, threw in the stoner heft of High on Fire, the sorrowful dirges of Crowbar and a very slight hint of psychedelic doom like Rwake, Minsk or Samothrace then name the band after Ivan Dragos famous line from Rocky IV, you get Michigans If He Dies He Dies and their very impressive third album, an album which will make me seek out the prior two releases. The Rise. The Fall is 10 tracks of earthy, riff driven metal that crosses a number of genres from stoner doom, prog rock, Southern tinged sludge, traditional doom and post rock.

IRON MAN - I HAVE RETURNED
Iron Man's guitar player/song writer Al Morris III has been writing the most savage/heaviest sounding guitar riffs for over 2 decades now! I cannot stress enough to Heavy Metal fans out there that if you haven't heard Iron Man, find something FAST! You're missing out on some of the most mind-bending groove-laden (Maryland) Doom metal around. It's a shame they never got the recognition they deserve, yet! I'm hoping to help change that for them for their forthcoming album "I Have Returned". I've listened to this album a million times already and I can firmly tell everyone this is the very best underground recording I've ever heard on an independant label. This recording sounds like it should be on a major label and I didn't even mention the superior songwriting yet! The songs are very well written and catchy, I'm convinced there's not a stale riff in Al Morris's soul! The man is a guitar god!! Louis is a top-notch bass player, Dex's drums are thunderous and just about as balanced as it gets, and Joe's vocal performance is far beyond my expectation. I'm incredibly honored the band and their manager had faith in me to release their album and it's going to be a pleasure to read, hear, and see the reactions of metal fans far and wide with this release. I think this could have a MAJOR impact on the Heavy Metal scene in 2009.

IRONSWORD - OVERLORDS OF CHAOS

Originally released in 2003 on vinyl only, Mighty And Superior is the perfect name for this album because this is exactly what Epic Metal should sound like! KARYSUN - INTERCEPTOR
Self released debut album by the french drums n' guitar powerduo. It combines huge crunchy garage metal riffs with spaced-out gutteral Lemmy vocals, leagues of fuzz, and a droning scumbag swagger that reminds of a noise-rock tainted Black Cobra or High On Fire. There is some really rad shit happening in here though that makes these guys stand out...Imagine Black Cobra bestowed with a propensity for motorik rhythms, a noisier, lysergic Torche, or Floor after a weeklong listening binge of nothing but Motorhead's Orgasmatron. I'm loving this album. Comes in a cool looking digipack. Karysun has played with Saviours, Akimbo, Young Widows, Tesa, Kidcrash, Black Cobra. Members of Amanda Woodward, Sugartown Cabaret and lots of another band from the Caen Punk / Hardcore scene. LORD FOWL - ENDLESS DYNAMITE
Features a cover of Thin Lizzy's 'Rocky'. Back in 2006, longtime New Haven, CT mainstays, Vechel Jaynes and Donny Freeman had a conversation over drinks. They wanted to play music like the stuff they heard when they were younger. As kids they were enthralled by the arena acts of the 70's (Cheap Trick, Queen, Kiss) and heavier underground acts such as Angelwitch and Motorhead, but also identified with the politics and ferocity of bands like The Clash and Black Flag. Adding the sounds of Motown and psychedelic protest they heard whilst in the womb, a decision was made - Lord Fowl was born.

LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG - THE SLAY STACK CROWS (2CD)
Some of you might not know that THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG have been going strong since 1990! My god hardly anyone knew them back then, but they were onto something unique and special from way back then. Their earliest recordings featured Omar as the singer instead of what (most) everyone is used to . Mike Scalzi singing. Their early stuff is really rough 80s sounding metal with the obvious THIN LIZZY influence and a dash of Punk Rock. After all the years it is finally nice to see a band like this get a lot of press and success in the underground. Im so pleased and incredibly honored to announce this release of their earliest live and demo recordings all put together on one release. If you are a fan of THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG and are used to their ultra clean and crisp sound, youre not going to find it here. This release is for the ultra diehard fans and youll be happy to know there are 6 unreleased songs (2 which are cover songs) and a really entertaining interview with Mike Scalzi at the end of the album.

MASTODON - CRACK THE SKYE (+DVD)
Includes a bonus DVD. This is the most daring of their four albums, its intricate story line playing out over multi-part songs that draw on 70s progressive rock, psychedelia and even country music. Mortality provides subtext and adds emotional resonance to the bands sci-fi lyrics: the suicide of drummer Brann Dailors sister Skye and the near-death from a fractured skull of guitarist Brent Hinds in 2007 shade the maze-like narrative. All figure into an epic album about transcending the limitations of time, space and the human body. The lyrics present a Tolkien-like fantasy involving astral travel, spirit-world trysts and Czarist Russia. Though less immediately visceral than its predecessors, "Crack the Skye" is denser, deeper and more emotionally transfixing

OGRE - PLAGUE OF THE PLANET
USA 70's/80's (sounding) Rock/Doom Metal hybrid band OGRE have been together since 1999. They have a unique sound combining the elements of BUDGIE, BLOODROCK, PENTAGRAM, BLACK SABBATH, RUSH, AC/DC, etc with a Bon Scott/Ozzy styled vocalist that would appeal to any Rock or Metal fan. OGRE has put 2 very solid and well respected albums out, "Dawn Of The Proto-Man" and "Seven Hells". With their 3rd release out, the band shows no signs of writer's cramp or slowing down. "Plague Of The Planet" will not disappoint old fans and will impress potential new fans! Inspired by such classic albums as "2112", "Dark Side of the Moon", and "Music from the Elder", "Plague of the Planet" is a full-on concept album, consisting of a single multi-part epic suite that sends the listener on a journey filled with pulverizing riffs, extended jams, over-the-top vocals, and such familiar OGRE obsessions as giant robots, dog-men, death, doom, and war. Plague of the Planet is more than just a self-contained concept, however. Over the course of the albums 38 minutes, the band incorporates lyrical motifs and musical themes from OGRE songs going as far back as its 2000 demo, making Plague of the Planet the ultimate distillation of the epic OGRE sound.

OLD YRON - OLD YRON
The Italian 80s metal scene is one of my favorites of all time. Bands like BLACK HOLE, DARK QUARTERER, DEATH SS, PAUL CHAIN, BULLDOZER, RUN AFTER TO, NECRODEATH, BERSERKS are some of the better bands from that era. Id like to think that OLD YRON towards the end of the 80s was an unknown forgotten gem for the time of its release, especially since the tides were changing and this kind of IRON MAIDEN-esque heavy metal was beginning to die out in popularity while new genres started to emerge. I think this release was really unknown to a lot of people considering it was a DIY pressing. Here you will find extremely fast heavy metal, but not Thrash. OLD YRON had a very violent lead guitar layered with shredding riffs and over the top high pitched vocals. Think IRON MAIDEN meets YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, but without going overboard with the guitar shredding. The band has absolutely no demos, rehearsals, or any other music except for this album as far as we know. There were no master tapes so the best option the band wanted to do was to rip the music directly from the original vinyl. The only bonus tracks we could come up with was some dark classical music written by Antonio Ferrari in the early 2000s. Antonio talks about putting OLD YRON back together, but no one really knows if its going to happen or even what it will sound like. So enjoy this for what it is, a lost gem re-mastered the best we could get it.

ONE POINT THREE - BROKEN ARMS RACE
Slaying their guitars and vocal chords, One.Point.Three likes to brutalize themselves to get at your inner ear and shout at your brain. Theyve played with the likes of Unsane, Mastodon, and many other Columbus, Ohio natives. Their sound is aggressive with abrasive screams and filthy guitars that are distorted to the point of disharmony. Im amazed that these guys havent been thrown into the asylum for crafting such looney yet somehow brilliant hardcore metal.

PALE DIVINE - CRIMSON TEARS
For well over a decade now, PALE DIVINE have grinded its teeth into the ultimate sounds of classic 70s Rock and Doom Metal. They have come a long way and really carved their own niche and sound in the underground, slicing off influences from dinosaurs like BLACK SABBATH, LEAFHOUND, SIR LORD BALTIMORE, CANDLEMASS, TROUBLE, ST. VITUS, JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, the legendary Maryland Doom Metal scene headed by PENTAGRAM/BEDEMON/DEATH ROW, ASYLUM, THE OBSESSED, IRON MAN, etc. By playing that style, it was only natural that Mr. Rich Walker from THE MISKATONIC FOUNDATION would give them the well-deserved attention they needed and placed one of their best songs "Serpents Path" on the very first MISKATONIC (compilation) release, "At The Mountains Of Madness". Right after that, they released their first Demo "Crimson Tears" on cassette format only. Now after all this time not being in circulation, its getting the royal treatment it deserves. Re-mastered with 2 rare bonus live tracks with liner notes, original and also rare cover art, this release is for all the die-hard Doom Metal fans, PALE DIVINE fans, and for those of you who are new to this band; this is the perfect place to start checking them out, right at the beginning. tracks: 1. Morphia / Crimson Tears 2. Rites Of Passage 3. Rise Above 4. Lord Of Sorrow 5. Serpents Path 6. Judas Wheel * 7. RITUAL (UK) - VALLEY OF THE KINGS
This old cult band from the UK started playing in 1973 and it wasn't until 1983 until they got their first full-length out called "Widow". Strangely enough the band was referred to as WIDOW back then because apparently the records that were floating around had no RITUAL name on it. RITUAL blends an unusual mix of 70's heavy rock and 80's rock sounds from the N.W.O.B.H.M. with a real dream-like effect. They're hard hitting old English Rock 'N Roll with a great clean singer/songwriter Gypsy Re Bethe that you might find yourself singing along to these infectious choruses. 10 years after "Widow" was released, came their 1993 album "Valley Of The Kings" picking up right where they left off in 1983. "Valley Of The Kings" sounds like it could have been released in 1984! Ritual have a unique way of blending hard hitting Rock 'N Roll riffs with melodic acoustic passages that take you out of this world. If you love old 70's rock and metal like DEEP PURPLE, JUDAS PRIEST, and old N.W.O.B.H.M. like ANGEL WITCH, DIAMOND HEAD, QUARTZ, HOLOCAUST, etc... the RITUAL experience is what you need! These re-issues include never before heard songs, new cover artwork that reflects the original art, plus the original cover art (so you can compare), an interview with Gypsy Re Bethe, lyrics, interesting pictures, and old photos. Heres your chance to listen to and find out more about the mysterious RITUAL.

SINISTER REALM - SINISTER REALM
Early 80s styled Heavy / Doom Metal was formed by John Gaffney after his departure from PALE DIVINE. After leaving PALE DIVINE he asked Darin McCloskey to play drums. This new band is from the USA taking influences from the early 80s Heavy Metal scene that consisted of a variety of bands like JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MADIEN, BLACK SABBATH, DIO, CANDLEMASS, OZ, etc. The album is very catchy with well written, memorable songs, with catchy chorus lines provided by a very talented vocalist, Alex Kristof; his influences are in the league of Dio, Halford, Dickinson. While the music is deeply rooted in the 80's Heavy and Doom scene, it comes down to the arrangement of the songwriting which in itself lies the unique part of SINISTER REALM. Their style is very natural from the music they grew up on and the hooks on this album are to die for! Once this album is digested, you will definitely hear they have developed a sound and technique of their own. So sit back, relax, and "Enter The Sinister Realm".

STONE GARDEN - STONE GARDEN (+BONUS)
The is the first of more albums to come that will be released under the Shadow Kingdom label that I feel fans of Heavy Metal should OWN (from the 60's/70's) in your collection. If youre still searching for something heavier than BLACK SABBATH in the 60s, just forget it, its just not out there. BUT. for the late 60s there wasnt much heavier than this amazing US Heavy Psychedelic / Acid Rock! "Assembly Line" probably IS the heaviest song before BLACK SABBATH emerged. For the time it doesnt get any HEAVIER than this! If this band would have played Woodstock, they would have blown the bell-bottom trousers off of most of the bands and people there with their heavy-fuzzed out guitar blasting riffs, garage-y drums, great catchy vocals and intricate songwriting. Fans of BLUE CHEER, BANG, JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, DEEP PURPLE, JIMI HENDRIX, FRANK ZAPPA, IRON BUTTERFLY, STEPPENWOLF, THE DOORS, HIGH TIDE, 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS, (heavier) BEATLES, CREAM, (of course) BLACK SABBATH, and so on, need to look into this. This re-issue contains 5 extra bonus songs not included on the past re-issues until now!

STYGIAN SHORE - THE SHORE WILL ARISE
STYGIAN SHORE is from Wichita, Kansas (USA) where their main influence and legendary band MANILLA ROAD is from. STYGIAN SHORE play Epic Metal/Heavy Rock similar to bands from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and also take influence from more well known bands such as BLACK SABBATH and AC/DC. This official release (for the first time ever) features 12 brand new, never before heard songs, plus a re-recorded version of their hit song "Tidal Wave" that was originally released in the band's debut EP by Mark Shelton's Roadster Records back in 1984! This album was supposed to be released in 1989, but never was until now. It is a lost gem from the 80's, and certainly the band's best work and far superior to their well-received debut EP from 1984. This comes with a full biography of the band's history, beautiful full-color booklet with lyrics and band photos. Don't miss out!

 WORKHORSE
WORKHORSE - BEASTS OF BURDEN
"The unholy union of Sleep and Molly Hatchet.... Trading in ominous heaviness for punks buzz-saw melodicism couched in metallic sound structures, Workhorse has managed to jump out of the rut of many of its peers. Instead of the dour stoicism of metal guys who mimic the faces favored by the gods of thunder, this band smiles on stage. Oh, sure singer/guitarist Randy Olinger sounds like he gargles with a low molar solution of sulfuric acid in the morning, and lead guitarist Jay Ditchen bears an uncanny resemblance to David Cross, right down to the goofy grin. But they both play their cutting, subtly innovative hard rock as though theyre having fun doing it. Maybe Workhorse is a bit of a misnomer, because these guys sure look like theyre having a blast."

Put this album on and you're in for an hour of some powerful vibrations. BORDEAUX, RICHARD -DE- -& DANIEL BE - LE TEMPS FOU O.S.T.
Veritable trouble makers on the French music scene at the end of the 60s, Daniel Beretta and Richard de Bordeaux form the likeable duo that has produced a series of cult EPs and 7 inches, beautifully bathed in pop and zesty colours. Experts in nonsensical and offbeat tracks, our two men see their work as a liberating itching powder which they throw with unconcealed glee at a French variety scene a bit too serious for their liking. The mini original soundtrack, richly coloured by the "Temps Fou" is one of the most splendid incarnations, a unique concentration of their inimitable style mixing caustic humour, enlightened dandyism and joyful decadence. If their stories cultivate derision with great class, their finely honed texts, artfully sung in duo, are systematically accompanied by daunting music with baroque perspectives and vintage grooves that do the job wickedly well. As men of taste, they appoint the unrivalled arrangements of the great Christian Gaubert, the brilliant pop orchestrator behind Francis Lais best original soundtracks, who gives his very all here. To prove it, these four tracks of bravado, including cultissime jerk "La Drogue", zenith of smoking groove with illicit lyrics, which propel this rare EP into the pantheon of the best packaged French pop. A level of quality and madness which demands respect. From original master tapes. Limited edition, Numbered. Original artwork.

GAINSBOURG, SERGE - LE PACHA O.S.T.
Released in 1968, George Lautner s delectable thriller Le Pacha" surely wouldnt have achieved such cult status without its fabulous soundtrack, concocted by one of the most audacious duos of their time, the magic tandem of Serge Gainsbourg/Michel Colombier. Always at the pinnacle of new rhythms and sensitive to sounds coming from across the Channel and the USA, the two men capture the essence of this pop and psychedelic era to compose two incredible themes for this now historical 7". Two high ambitious tracks which perfectly crystallise their sense of purity and dynamism and blithely brush with the realms of genius. First up, the visionary and incomparable "Requiem pour un Con", abstract avant gardist dazzle with a forever grounded rhythmic to which Gainsbourg slams words in a spoken/ sung method unique to him, pioneering to the rap of the future. A great moment in robotic funk and a stroke of genius which never ceases to fascinate to this day. Just as minimal, the instrumental "Psychastnie" and its sinusoidal sitar we find on the B side itself takes on the form of a delicious mantra draped in Indian colours and infused with the heavy scent of opiates. A bare and obsessive jerk which spins continuously around and allows us a glimpse of an unlikely psychedelic nirvana. This record, which forever seals the improbable meeting of Gabin/Lautner/Gainsbourg now definitively holds its place in legend. From original master tapes. Limited edition, Numbered. The breaking point in this exquisite sixties object: the famous jerk No no yes yes" which takes Mister Freedom onto the delights of the dance floor and gives an incredible funk beat to this joyful contestation. NICAUD, PHILIPPE - C'EX
The aptly named "C'ex" follows directly in the footsteps of cult album "Erotico.Nicaud", released 1 year previous: insolent, irresistible and wickedly effective. The frenetically energetic music direction is signed Jean Musy, harbouring an undeniable leaning towards Latin funk and exotic jerk. The B side has a wonderful surprise in store with the delicious slow "Qu' est ce qu' il dit ?", a very personal reinterpretation of the Sinatra classic "Strangers in the Night" which here becomes the soundtrack to a delectable Nicaud style man/woman dialogue. Both songs seem to be the recipe of Philippe Nicaulds every obsession, where his erotomanic, priapic character finally surrenders and simply admits his impotency.

VINCENT, ROLAND - DELPHINE O.S.T.
Avidly hunted down by every amateur of illicit, lysergic influenced soundtracks, "Delphine" is largely deserving of its cult EP status. Indeed, well hidden behind a magnificent pop art sleeve lies one of French rare grooves most emblematic anthems, the famous "LSD partie", beloved of the most demanding of DJs, including David Holmes who would include it in the score for "Oceans Twelve." This great moment in epileptic jerk, unequivocal title in tow, is a real piece of bravado, thick with wha-wha guitar which confronts the attacks of a bouncing bass and fierce Hammond organ full in the face. Urgently recorded under the direction of the composer/ arranger Roland Vincent, this track, aimed at illustrating a drugs party, is quintessential of the French psychedelic sound the rest of the world raves over Tracks: Concerto pour Delphine, LSD partie, Embouteillage and A la Miles.

WAGNER, CLIFF - HER NAME WAS SUE
You may have never heard of Cliff Wagner, but listening to the two tracks on this obscure single will quickly earn this American artist a top ranking place in your playlists. Released at the dawn of the 70s on Egg, the excellent French pop/progressive label, both songs evolve within an excellent soul and rock register, tinted with wonderful shades of psychedelia. If the poignant "Her name was Sue" plays the sober and reverent card, the sublime "Red Spot" blatantly brims over with energy with surprising flexibility. Right from the bass/drum break intro which holds its ground effortlessly against the sonic attacks of a dazzling fuzz guitar, shivers of pleasure arise, and feet begin to mechanically tap out the rhythm. And then a radiant Hammond organ comes in, followed by a mischievous wah-wah guitar and a discrete, but altogether essential bell. This magical orchestration, product of Herv Roys expertise as crafty arranger, disruptive with the work of the producer, offers Wagners gravely voice a sparkling box of soul. Here we have a great, very great track, pop attuned to the max. A real gem! From original master tapes. Limited edition, Numbered. Original artwork.

BOLLING, CLAUDE - VIVRE LA NUIT O.S.T.
If the film "Vivre la Nuit" by Marcel Camus remains locked in historic limbo, the fact remains that its sumptuous original soundtrack remains on the wanted list of a flurry of collectors, desperately hoping to get their hands on a copy one day. The perfect example of a sixties score, doped with rhythmnblues and mod-ern sounds, this record is a little gem, perfectly coherent and with a perfect goal. Under the unbridled musical direction of a Claude Bolling at the height of his pop phase parade dazzling manifestations of soul ("Heart and Soul"), a handful of amphetamine drugged jerks (the unforgettable "Make Love Number One" and the incredible "Get that Feelin interpreted by Gerry Beckles), elegant jazzy instrumentals, and the opulent baroque ballad "Voici le Jour" haunted by Danielle Licaris diaphanous voice which leads the record to a magnificent end. We come away from listening to this record as after a sleepless night partying: tired but happy, eyes shining, with bass lines, guitars and organs ringing in our ears. Finally making this essential record accessible, this vibrant example of the musical waves at the end of the sixties, was long overdue.

CIPRIANI, STELVIO - FEMINA RIDENS O.S.T.
The music composed by Stelvio Cipriani in 1969 for supreme cult pop art film Piero Schivazappa has every merit to a place in this category of indefinable, fascinating records. Under its sensual and arty sleeve, sixties fantasy incarnate, lies one of the most beautiful Italian cinema B scores of the end of the decade. A psychedelic whirlwind in perfect harmony with the steamily perverted and erotic roleplay - playing off an icy Philippe Leroy with the fascinating Dagmar Lassander. Other than the sophistication of the arrangements and orchestrations embracing mostly organs, psychedelic guitars, percussion and baroque strings, its the boundless ambition of Ciprianis melodies that command respect. Mixing codes and styles, he happily delves into jazz, kinetic pop and classical music to give form to the moving waves of his music. From flashes of pop, heady waltzes and Bach style bop minuets, to hallucinogenic experiments and Morriconien western themes, each seems to have its place in this sumptuous kaleidoscope. To top it all, the celestial tones of the great Edda DellOrso have never had a more fitting home. Oscillating between the perverse, the sensual and the nostalgic, shes in perfect harmony with Ciprianis wise structures, each on a par with the most dazzling of Morricone or Piccionis works.

LEGRAND, MICHEL - ARCHI-CORDES
Michel Legrand, a rapidly rising young composer at this time and breaking with the most complex writing techniques, was part of this generation of untamed conductors with very big ideas within which included a wide array of personalities from Esquival, Les Baxter and Lalo Schifrin to Quincy Jones. This fabulous record, with its killer energy was rediscovered for the first time during the easy listening revival of 1996, via the seminal English compilation "In Flight" which included 2 tracks. Fevered twist, jerk, hully gully and Latin Jazz make this a cult opus and a fantastic declaration of love for all that is rhythm, dance and movement. Originally from 1967. Heavyweight Vinyl180-gram (LP) Limited edition, Numbered. Original artworks. Tracklisting: Di - Gue - Ding - Ding / Noix De Coco / Orange Blossom Special / Come Ray And Come Charles / Hi Girls! / Manhattan Stroll /Alcatraz / Da- We-Da / Monkey Business / Come Ride With Me / Motor City / Bandol.

LEUTER, CECIL - POP ELECTRONIQUE
Radical and veritable manifesto, "Pop Electronique" is an excessively cult record that the English enviously wish they could claim as their own. A piece of extreme and atypical instrumental madness with an alien edge - brainchild of the fabulous Cecil Leuter. Behind this enigmatic pseudo, borrowed from his grandmother, actually lies Roger Roger, uber-prolific French composer of several hundred records for TV, theatre and radio and doted with an immediately recognisable style that mixes classicism with the avant-garde. He quickly foresaw the revolutionary potential of new emerging technologies through time spent at the ORTF. His music would never be the same again. As of the endof the 60s, he would throw himself into musical experimentations, combining prehistoric beat boxes with the intense use of synths, and began to niftily mix acoustic, electric and electronic music. "Pop Electronique" is the perfect, successful culmination of his off the beaten track explorations. A crazed record composed of a super groovy A side, bringing together strong jerks and Dadaist moog deflagrations, and a much more minimal, strictly electronic B side. Situated somewhere between Pierre Henry and Michel Colombiers "Messe pour le Temps present and Jean-Jacques Perreys "Moog Indigo," Pop Electronique can be classed as one of those pioneering and magical records which, at the end of the sixties, dared savagely mix pops grooves and rhythms with the futuristic electronic sounds of the first synthesisers.

ROUBAIX, FRANCOIS -DE- - L'ANTARCTIQUE & AUTRES SEANCES...
...Electroniques Rue de Courcelles". French soundtrack composer and autodidact François de Roubaix (1939-1975) was one of the first to use (frequency) modulators (Moog, Korg) on an 8 tracks home studio. He died too soon in a diving accident, nevertheless not unknown for his melodic works mixing electronic and acoustic: he has immortalised a number of French classical movies in the sixties and seventies, amongst others l'Homme Orchestre, Dernier Domicile Connu, les Aventuriers and the famous animation series Chapi Chapo. François de Roubaix' oeuvre has been sampled by multiple producers. This release devotes on a double vinyl a posthumous work "l'Antarctique", composed after an order by the Commander Cousteau for one of his documentaries. This work has been taken very seriously by the diving fan that François de Roubaix was. The Commander finally refused the electronic composition, probably because too avant-garde for its time, so it has remained unknown for a long time and this is the first time it is edited in vinyl. On the second - completely eclectic - record you'll find different "tasty" style-exercises that show to what extend François de Roubaix manipulated the modulators with ingenuity." Limited to 750 copies.

NICAUD, PHILIPPE - EROTICO...NICAUD
Behind a scandalous Aslan-signed sleeve lies one of the strangest reflections of the sexual revolution that was taking place in France in the 60s and 70s. An excessively kitsch musical UFO, furiously pop and totally cult, that has long been whipping the planets most perverse record collectors into a frenzy. At the origin of this dangerously shapely sexual manifesto we find a multitalented true believer, the incredible Philippe Nicaud. With "Erotico Nicaud" he plunges hungrily into the eras melting pot of pop with the help of Grard Gustin and his pulsingly crafted orchestrations. As the bass purrs and the guitars buzz, his voice becomes more sleazy, commanding, succeeding in transforming him into a modern erotic dandy. The result is breathtaking. A disciple of joyfully uninhibited erotomania, Philippe Nicaud has succeeded in creating a record that is excessive, turgescent and incredibly likeable. One of the best kept secret treasures of the pop era finally gaining momentum to tell us its stories where "Theres no such thing as untouchable women, just over - impatient men! CD has 8 page booklet

VARIOUS - PARTIES FINES
While music from 60s and 70s erotico-pornographic films has been the darling of several German, Italian and American compilations, few labels have yet to touch upon the "French exception" to the genre. With no misplaced chauvinism intended, it has to be said that French composers have often showed originality and finesse in putting together carefully composed, classy musical packages for racy films that could have settled for less. Parties Fines is the first chapter in a collection in-viting you to dive back into the secret meanders of some altogether exciting production music. By plunging back into the golden age of on-screen sex, prepare to enjoy with sheer delectation the shivers of erogenous melodies, void of all taboo, with 15 tracks that vary enrapturedly both pleasures and styles. The raw energy of Disco and Funk couples with the impressionism of ballads of the more vaporous kind, while the cool romanticism of electronic ditties caresses the snake-like bass-lines, carrying the endless cries of lovers in action. 1. MESQUITA, RONALD - BRESIL 72
It was 1972 when Ronald Ventura de Mesquita recorded the fabulous "Bresil 72" for Barclay, which would go on to become a collectable, sought out by rare groove fetishists the world over. "Bresil 72" is distinctly "samba soul." Beginning with he opener "Balana Peme", a theme borrowed f rom Jorge Ben. "Dabadeia", the second theme is rich with pop bossa flavours. Side One of the LP is signed by a trio of names: Tom Jobim, Milton Nascimento and Gilberto Gil, three of Rios major forces. The first with the classic "Aguas de maro". The second in a potpourri "Tema de Tostao." And third and finally, "Fechado Pra Balano" which takes on a distinctly groovy feel, two years on from being created by Gil. Side Two carries on where Side One left off. From the first notes of "O Gato," to Gonzaguinha, its samba soul on the musical agenda. Like on the cover of "Tarde Em Itapoa" from the Toquinho and Vinicius de Moraes duo, with offbeat electric piano notes and dotted percussion, on "Casa no Campo", which flies the flag for Popular Brazilian Music in the voice of Elis Regina, or in the samba "Quatro de Dezembro." Whats to be said about "Papagaio", a short farce with the rhythm section taking the lead role?!? This turnery allows the vocalists to launch into a crescendo of a final, in Edu Lobos famous "Zanzibar", practically scat-style in its arrangements. One things for sure, after listening to all that, we can understand why this unlikely musical object has long been identified by the most curious groove enthusiasts.

SMITH, GIZELLE -& THE MIGHTY MOCAMB - THIS IS GIZELLE SMITH & THE...
...Mighty Mocambos". Ever since their first collaboration on the "Mocambo Funk Forty Fives" compilation, things have gained momentum for the "Golden Girl of Funk" and the much respected Hamburg-based label and live band. Their first single "Working Woman" became an overnight smash and a prime-time club favourite of funk & soul DJs from all over the world. Initially released on the Finnish private press label Old Capital, producer legend and Grammy nominee Kenny Dope (Masters at Work, Bucketheads) picked up and remixed the song for his own label Kay Dee Records. Gizelle Smith & Mocambo now step up with a full-length album of bonafide sister funk. In the days of digital recording and Pro Tools editing, they show true exception to modern techniques and create their highly regarded, unique and raw soul sound, by making use of simple dynamic microphones and reel-to-reel tape machines. In a genre which is often littered with overused clichs of the past, the charismatic Gizelle Smith adds a lot of her own flavour rather than slavishly copying icons of bygone decades. The result is a refreshing alternative to post-millenium plastic pop without being a mere retro rip-off. From the heavy and determined "Gonna Get You" to vulnerable, gospel-tinged laments such as "Coffee High", the album is just as deeply rooted in the music from the golden era of soul as it is a modern masterpiece in its own right. Blazing horns, soulful guitars, driving drums and basslines combined with Gizelle's gripping and powerful voice all weave together to create a long player that is varied and coherent at the same time.

TITA - L'IMCOMPARABLE TITA
From original master tapes. Heavyweight Vinyl 180-gram, Limited edition, Numbered. Original artwork. Tita Lobo, is a singer with a slight growl in her voice and a subtle velvet to her fingers. Two essential qualities for those wishing to mark their music with a bossa nova style of the purest carioca, and two qualities shared by so many vocalists from this era. Very few however compose their own repertoire. Unlike Tita, who, backed by Renato da Rocha, wrote twelve bitter-sweet melancholy scented songs, set off by a few laid-back jazz notes and sensitive strings that are dosed just right. To interpret them here, Tita Lobo can count on the person also sharing her life: bassist Edson Lobo, making up the Trio Camara with pianist Fernando Martins and drummer Nelson Serra. Outfit to whom we owe the cult sixties record they would record in Paris: "Brasilian Sound" by Les Masques.

As the title "Cinematic Funk" suggests, the music has more to it than just the usual 45 sound. From the grand opening theme, to quirky, break-heavy street soul, sweet love themes, moody downtempo jazz, psychedelic B-movie sitar grooves, chilled and spaced out tunes to blaxploitation car chase sceneries, the cream of Europes funk bands like James Taylor Quartet, Speedometer, Sound Stylistics, Delta Rhythm Section and the Mighty Mocambos deliver a broad variety of film-inspired funk styles.

VILLA, LAURA - BOSSA NOVA
From original master tapes. Heavyweight Vinyl 180-gram, Limited edition, Numbered. Original artwork. Historically, it is one of the first Bossa Nova records to be recorded in Europe. Laura Villas warm and enveloping voice. Born Emilie Laura Facetti in Italy, she would discover Bossa Novas captivating melodies when in Lisbon at the end of the 50s. At the time, the Portuguese capital was the European port entry for newly arrived Brazilians. With her pianist husband Alex Biancheri, she was under Bossas spell on her return to Paris, and decided to spread the good Brazilian word. Signing to Polydor gave her the means to form a full-scale orchestra (partly made up of Brazilian musicians) and to record in 1962 this classics-filled album also comprising original material. A shining declaration of love for Brazilian rhythms, a veritable manifesto of proud and uninhibited European Bossa, this timeless masterpiece brimming with bright and generous songs lit up the way to Brazils infinite softness at the dawn of the 60s. A path that will be taken by many more to come.
