The easy way out is to compare the track to anything by Blues Explosion; yet Jon Spencer could never dream of being this frenetic. "Soul Track" isn't a soul song but it has a lot of soul. It's an absolutely-in-control wall of noise. The aforementioned "I Hate Porn" features the more electronic side of the group, but it isn't about backbeats or samples. It's about a drum machine and 93 seconds of rock. The Feeling of Love is severely underrated and continue to get better with every passing release. The JuJus initially blended an impressive brand of folk-rock and British-Invasion sounds with a raw garage band attitude best demonstrated on their classic 45's such as "I'm Really Sorry" and the aforementioned "You Treat Me Bad". In 1967 they opted for a change in sound, documented in their more psychedelic recordings such as "Sometime Or Other" and "If You Really Love Me". Iran has been a mystery to collectors for many years, and even today it remains a blackbox to most. Within the rubbles of Iran's lost musical history comes Golden Ring, one of the first, and most prodominent Iranian garage groups from the 60's. Based in Tehran, Golden Ring recorded and released a series of songs on 7" during the late 60's and early 70's before disbanding. They were one of the first Iranian bands to be influenced by Western music such as The Beatles, combining traditional Iranian instrumentation and melodies with structures found in UK and North American rock and pop. This combination resulted in an Iranian take on garage music during the genre's climax. One of the members of Golden Ring, Arif, later went on to become a solo artist, and over time became one of the legendary artists within Irans musical landscape. His solo material spread across 45's, soundtracks and generations of fans. When you believe in something so strongly it becomes hard to let it go, persistence can turn into stubbornness and you lose track of reality. I still believe I did the right thing in keeping it going and I still want six.byseven to be a success but I was probably the only one left who felt like that. Maybe being in a band that Peel asked to do five sessions was not such a failure after all!" During Chris Olleys time in six.byseven he had already released numerous albums under the monkikers of Twelve and Fuck me USA. These were largely experimental and instrumental albums but perhaps now the time had come to release something under his own name. " Its all very well making music, hiding behind a project or band name but when you do it under your own name its a completely different thing. To quote Neil Young, I had to at last go about making a solo album, just to see if I could make one. " Chris went back to the start, quite literally, "I didnt have a band and I was going to find it hard to convince new people to begin a new journey to travel down a road of rock n roll road of doom. I picked up an acoustic and tried to find out who I was within music, I didnt really care if it was right or wrong, good or bad, it just had to be me, whatever that was." Lyrically and musically this is an open and honest album with clearly defined songwriting steeped in the traditions of American Folk, sometimes dreamy, sometimes tetchy, often feeling solemn and yearning but always cathartic. Recorded mainly in basements, front rooms on portastudios and various studios over a 6 month period without the use of computers or a single snare drum, the album relies heavily on the sound of vocals, guitars and mellotron. Chris says "Lyrically I was coming to terms with losing my Mother to alcoholism and making the choice to jettison so many friends and change my life for a new start whilst still reflecting on and trying to understand the past. Why You Runnin' is a five-song introduction to songwriter LISSIE and pivots around her big, achingly raw and evocative voice. The songs range from the hand-clapping, foot-stomping spirited opener "Little Lovin'" to the poignant country cover "Wedding Bells" to the haunting, soulful '60s pop-esque ballads "Everywhere I Go" and "Here Before." These tracks were recorded at her current home in Ojai, CA, and at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, NC, with her friend BILL REYNOLD (of BAND OF HORSES, who also produced and plays bass on the songs alongside his bandmate TYLER RAMSEY, who guests on guitar for some tracks). The hymn-like "Oh Mississippi" was recorded with ED HARCOURT last fall, when Lissie was far from home in London, England.

He was affectionately referred to as 'Sonic Knuth.' Here in NYC, so far from the San Francisco community, we were touched and more than intrigued. We learned Jason was a vibrant, well-loved guy on the music scene with a completely genuine exuberance toward art and music. His demeanor obviously shrouded a complex inner life which led to suicide. What Jason's feelings were toward his own human existence we may never know, but we do know he will be missed by many as a companion. Sonic Youth wanted to make some gesture toward him as well as focus on suicide prevention. "A note on the music: Silver Sessions was taken from an evening when Sonic Youth had to do vocal overdubs for A Thousand Leaves-a band upstairs was hammering out some funky metal overdrive and we couldn't 'sing' properly. We decided to fight fire with molten lava and turned every amp we owned on to 10+ and leaned as many guitars and basses we could plug in against them and they roared and howled like airplanes burning over the Pacific-we could only enter the playing room with hands pressed hard against our ears and even then it was physically stunning. We ran a sick outmoded beatbox through the P.A. and it blew out horrendous distorted pulsations. Of course we recorded the whole thing and a few months later we mixed it down into sections, ultra-processing it to a wholly other 'piece.' The touching number "Brown Reduse" wins you over with its catchy piano sounds and subtle trumpet which is rounded off by the electronica. It's a small orchestral gem in the jazz style which is still edgy despite its perfection. This is highlighted, for example, by the fact that you can hear the brass player drawing breath on some tracks. Certainly, the Scottish composer is no perfectionist. This was already plain to hear on "Osaka Bridge". Far more important is the melting together of melodies and a certain strangeness in the notes used. Things start to get more abstract in pieces like "Rowing Without Oars". Its a lively mish-mash of various, sometimes piercing tone variations and swirling keyboard sounds. RESIDENTS - IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?
THE RESIDENTS have enjoyed many attachments over the years, but none more unique than "Bunny." Their relationship flourished in the '70s when Bunny's eccentric ideas often pointed the group in unexpected directions, but Bunny eventually grew distant and his appearances at the El Ralpho Studios declined. Then, after a lapse of several years, a video tape arrived in the mail. Looking like the product of a discarded Korean surveillance camera, The Residents quickly recognized the unidentified video as the "work" of the long lost Bunny. At first amused, the group soon became disturbed by Bunny's obvious cry for help, attempting to gain support finding his missing "brother" Harvey. Hoping that a project focused on their lost friend might stimulate his reappearance, and subsequent psychiatric care, The Residents reenacted Bunny's plight in a series of internet videos, resulting in this DVD. Unfortunately after a CD, a world tour and the video series, Bunny remains among the missing.

The music is most beautiful. If you think you like El Congreso, you love Kissing Spell and Embrujo you will adore the music of the Blops. The first album from 1970 is pure underground folk with some electric moments, the second from 1971 becomes more electric still with most touching songs which makes you shiver and the third album from 1973 is complete electric and psychedelic with a progressive touch. Members of Kissing Spell + Embrujo (which will be released as a box-set too in the near future) became later members of Blops. The music from underground in Chile is well-known for perhaps the best music in whole South America. Contains: CD versions of 'Astra', 'Battle Hymn Of The Broken Hearted Horde' and 'Galactic Vibes', orginally released in South Africe in respectivily 1969, 1970, 1971. Since all master-tapes were lost in a big fire we had to master from original vinyl. We have used 2 or 3 mint copies of each album to make the best possible master. We won't say much about the music here because most people know what FREEDOMS CHILDREN sound like. All 3 albums are possibly the most wanted albums ever from S.A. Some call them the PINK FLOYD of S.A. and if the political situation in S.A. would have been easier they would have had the same status in the international music market as Pink Floyd does. Beautiful composer songs, amazing instrument work, well-crafted guitar work and great singers.
