The Lucifer Rising Suite begins with the 1967 version of the soundtrack and continues through a logical sequence of the recordings made in the years spanning 1976-79. With respect to the latter, the original master tapes were mined for music that had not been heard by anyone in nearly three decades. They were discovered by a local producer from Ohio, who owned the label "Starr-Records" and went there to record "Still looking" (further they released 3 three non-lp 45 records, which are 6 bonustracks on this CD & 3 on LP). In the psychedelic underground collectors scene the album got established as a classic psych-hard-rock rarity. Their sound is strong and melodic with awesome guitar/organ leads, solid bass and catchy vocals. Their natural float creates a hypnotic atmosphere and makes you listen to this album again and again. at all their musical spirit is closer to the end 60s blend, than the recording year 1974 reflects, and sometimes they remind of the early Bloodrock stuff. Having released a series of 7" singles that range from psychedelic, pop and even heavy funk, collectors are pushing one another aside in an attempt to obtain his legendary work. While his psychedelic guitars and flutes have collectors drooling at the mouth, his heavy funk moments can be heard rocking dance floors in clubs across the world. This album, his sole lp release "African Jumbo", is both the rarest, and most in demand album from Iran, dated sometime in the mid 70s. The 11+ minute track "African Jumbo" is not only a masterpiece of psychedelic funk, but is also only available on this sole and impossibly hard to find album. A simply wonderful experience full of beautiful sitars and flutes, while heavy drums, horns and percussion help fill out the wonderful melodies. Mehrpouya's talents weren't limited to traditional instruments either. He was known to have invented original instruments from bones and other natural materials, while using pots as a replacement for drums. Still marked by their experimental excursions into the realms of sound art and remixes, however, it was also an eccentric and gloomy work, combining tender melodic pieces with ghostly drones and surreal collages. White Nights: Glowing Lights is a direct continuation of its predecessor's approach, but places even greater importance on the band's talents as intuitive songsmiths. As a result, the focus of these occasionally no more than two minute long tracks is firmly on acoustic guitars and Peter van Vliet's voice, with organs, sitars, tablas as well as an array of vintage analogue synthesizers providing a colourful backdrop. The dark, claustrophobic and nightmare-like ambiance of The Hand Of Tzafkiël has evaporated and given way to a more luminous, airy and laminar sound - especially so in floating instrumental sections filled with undulating harmonics and dreamy mellotron melodies. As has been revealed, the record is the second volume in an ambitious cycle of interconnected releases. The Use Of Ashes have certainly entered a new period of prolific productivity after a relatively quiet phase spent with re-evaluating the future of the project: even though glowing lights contains enough ideas to see other bands through an entire career, yet more white nights material is to follow soon. 0335938 CD ACRO 5 ACROBIOTIC	PSYCHOGEOGRAPHICAL COMMISSION - GENIUS LOCI Excellent recommended new project from UK, The Psychogeographical Commission is a post-industrial neofolk/dark ambient band based between Glasgow and Newcastle in the UK. The Commission was formed at the start of 2008, by S.: (real-world instruments and vocals) and Hokano (unreal instruments), to explore the many interfaces between the built environment and the people who inhabit it through drive, magick and sonic experimentation. After a great deal of time wandering the back streets of London and other large cities looking for the spirits which now dwell within them, they came to the conclusion that the psychological make-up of cities is now at odds with the populations inherent rural based mythology. People aren't evolving to cope with cities fast enough to keep up with the constantly shifting cityscape. To start approaching a remedy for this they set about creating music which blurs the line between the real and imagined landscapes in order to allow individuals to revaluate their own mythologies and provide new ideas to bring them closer to harmony with their urban surroundings. Named after the Roman mythological 'Spirit of the Place', the album (Genius Loci) attempts to explore further the Psychogeographical nature of our built environment and is therefore written to be played whilst interacting with a city. The album was originally released as a CDR at the beginning of 2009 but sold out due to overwhelmingly positive reviews from places such as Zero Tolerance Magazine (who gave it 5/6 and likened it to Coil and Nurse with Wound), Compulsion Online (who likened it to Coil and Death in June), Judas Kiss (Coil, Einstürzende Neubauten and Current 93), and numerous others. 0336143 LP 763857 5060149621059 BLUE HORIZON	TOPHAM, TOP - ASCENSION HEIGHTS Anthony Topham, better known professionally as Top Topham, had the good fortune to be a founding member of the Yardbirds,one of the most respected rock acts to come out of mid-'60s England. He had the bad fortune, however, to have been born in 1947, and to be only 15 years old at the time of the group's formation. Topham was a student at Epsom Art School when he and a good friend, singer/harpist Keith Relf, recruited drummer Jim McCarty, and from there assembled what was first called the Metropolitan Blues Quartet. They soon expanded their lineup and changed their name to the Yardbirds, and they seemed to have a promising enough future, especially after they attracted the interest of Giorgio Gomelsky, a club owner who became their manager. In a way, their future looked too promising, for the tastes of Topham's parents - the other band members, encouraged by Gomelsky, wanted to turn professional, and Topham didn't have that option; his parents had always expressed misgivings about his involvement in music, and wouldn't consider letting their 15-year-old son leave school to pursue a career as a guitarist. So he gave up his spot in the band to a schoolmate who seemed fairly promising, named Eric Clapton, who had no such misgivings, from family or anyone else, about his future as a guitarist. Ironically, Topham continued in music, forming bands in college during the psychedelic era, but never straying too far from the blues. He went to work for producer Mike Vernon at the latter's Blue Horizon label at the end of the 1960s, playing a lot of session work and also producing, and recorded one album of his own, Ascension Heights, which was big-band blues, quite removed from the Yardbirds' old sound or much of the prevailing style of British blues of the time. Health problems forced him out of music in the early '70s, and it wasn't until the 1980s that Topham returned to music, when he joined forces with the Yardbirds' former drummer to form the Top Topham-Jim McCarty Band. He had, by then, found success as an art dealer - proving that staying in school did have its up side - and has continued to work intermittently in music since, giving occasional live performances.
