Mantra/surfers On Acid
Led by composer/guitarist Eric Penna and named after the diminutive and once-ubiquitous Eastern European automobile, Trabants play an instrumental mix of vintage-inspired surf, garage, and psych with a cinematic twist that has found broad use in film, television, and advertising. Originally formed in Boston, the band is now headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The result of a years-long process to distill the ultimate hybrid of instrumental surf and psychedelic bliss, 'Mantra' and 'Surfers On Acid' was conceived as the definitive psych-surf single and timeless summer soundtrack. 'Mantra' picks up where Trabants' 2015 album on Lolipop Records, 'Freakout,' left off, inspired by the psychedelic sounds of the '60s while chasing and embracing the era's righteously primitive fuzz effects. The result is a perfect audible accompaniment to your own psychedelic trip, however you may wish to bring it on. 'Mantra' is the temple. It is personal. It is pure. It is love distilled into its simplest form. We all have a mantra within, and if we are willing to listen deeply, we may find a wiser version of ourselves reflecting back in the mirror of the eternal Now. An aural ride through the tumultuous, exotic waves of an alien terrain, 'Surfers On Acid' is an idea brought to fruition via vintage sounds and methods, fusing surf and psychedelia into one symbiotic piece of music. Trabants leader Eric Penna explains: "Being a true chaser of authentic sounds, I spent years trying to find a unique and rare specimen in the pantheon of guitar effects to bring this song to life the way I heard it in my mind. My acquisition of an original Tychobrahe Octavia played through a classic and pristine blonde Fender Showman (borrowed from none other than the modern instrumental band Satan's Pilgrims) brought the sound out of my mind and into the physical realm. Rhythmic, reverb-drenched and brimming with layers of (forwards and) backwards guitar, these mind-and-body focused songs are also a response to the enigmatic mention of surf music in the lyrics of Jimi Hendrix's 'Third Stone From The Sun,' which Hendrix apparently was transmitting to fellow left-handed guitar hero and surf music legend Dick Dale: "And you'll never hear surf music again (that sounds like a lie to me)."

Celebrating 30 years of collaboration, Loren Connors and Alan Licht performed for two nights at London's Café OTO on May 5th and 6th, 2023. On the second night, with the stage lit in blue, Connors took up a seat on the piano stool whilst Licht picked up the guitar. What followed was the duo's first ever set with Connors on piano, one of only a few times Connors has played piano live at all. Here this unique performance is captured and issued as 'The Blue Hour'.

Spellbinder Project
Spell Check, Vol. 2
The Spellbinder Project provide a heady brew of genres from post-punk to psych, jazz and beyond. The band was formed in 2010 by Sean Pereira Summers and Lascelles Gordon. Michael Levison joined four years later, along with other contributors too. Having released their debut EP, 'Spellcheck' in 2017, on their very own Big Shanty Records, two of the tracks were played by the very much missed Andrew Weatherall on his 'Music's Not For Everyone' NTS radio show episodes. Being a huge musical influence, the band were honoured to have been included. Sean and Michael remain the backbone of The Spellbinder Project, with various assistance with an ever revolving door. The Spellbinder Project return here with another four track instrumental vinyl scorcher. The spiky opener, 'Stamford Hill' exemplifies the constructive mix of post-punk to psych, jazz and beyond, and even further. Whereas 'Cheio De Bossa' blends dubbed-out Latin and psych. Recently recording with Heliocecentric's main instigator, Malcom Catto at his Quatermass Sound Lab studio, The Spellbinder Project have yielded two cuts which find also themself on this record; the tripped-out psych funk of 'Whose Next' and the dub-punk groover 'Soul Shot.' Both feature horns by Terry Edwards whose exemplary CV includes The Higsons, Gallon Drunk and The Near Jazz Experience. With an ever evolving sound, and contributors, The Spellbinder Project continue to spell it out! Limited to 500 copies.

Tibet
Porta Westfalica 1975
Tibet from Werdohl in the Sauerland were founded in 1971, but only released their only 7" single in 1976 and their only LP in 1979. On July 13th, 1975, they performed at the Goethe open air stage in Barkhausen, which now belongs to Porta Westfalica, an artificial structure created by the planners' brains in 1973. The performance was professionally recorded and has now been remastered by Eroc. Only the last two tracks come from other sources. The sound of the CD is flawless. An LP edition is being prepared, but without the bonus track for reasons of restricted playing time. Tibet played progressive rock in the style of the seventies. Worth mentioning: Only one track of the performance ('Fight Back') is known from the Tibet LP. The 32-page CD booklet contains, among other things, a very readable review by Jürgen Krutzsch of his time with Tibet.

Pale Green Vauxhall Driving Man
Prowler featured the wildly prolific team of Martin Briley and Brian Engel from such faves as Mandrake Paddle Steamer, Starbuck 'Do You Like Boys,' Liverpool Echo, Shambles 'Hello Baby,' True Adeventure, etc. This is not really a reissue per se because the original uncensored version has never been released on vinyl before. It was released in a censored form as the oddly titled 'Pale Green (Hmmmm) Driving Man' in 1972. The BBC's policy at the time would not allow a commercial product or brand name being used. Same reason The Kinks had to re-record 'Lola' for the single version substituting "chery cola" in place of "Coca-Cola." Prowler masked the offending "Vauxhall" auto brand name in their song with a Moog (played by Chris Thomas) sort of replicating an accelerating car. The fact that you can clearly hear the word "Vauxhall" several other times outside of the chorus didn't seem to phase anyone. It was all for naught. The Beeb didn't play it anyway. The subject matter alone, a kerb crawler searching the streets for unwitting victims tempted by his tainted "sticky brandy balls" sweets would warrant a ban from The Beeb regardless. The unique b-side 'I'm Your Leading Man,' a demo from 1972, has never appeared on vinyl before. As always, JAW provides more bang for the buck! 300 pressed.

Brux are back with four tracks of their trademark sound. Four flanged out hard hitting anthems, mixing the sharpest possible post punk with the roughest street rock'n'roll vocals. They keep their boots firmly pressed between two styles which seem polar opposites, resulting in new sounds made up of old formulas. Too angular for boot boys yet too crude for trendy post punkers. Blending both Blitz eras with death rock and current punk wave, and resulting on a fully formed band not afraid of displaying all their influences at once. Originally released by the band's label on a 100 run cassette at the end of 2023, this recording was simply too good not to exist on vinyl.

JJ And the A's offer up their second release with four songs to work their way into your earholes. Not lost on this recording is the band's hardcore delivery mixed with KBD undercurrents from the first EP. They have added a hint of melody in these songs which harkens back to early SoCal punk à la T.S.O.L., Adolescents, and Red Cross. Through the wash of sound the organ soaked in fuzz makes me think they could have been listening to Electric Prunes or Oblivions sloshing around in some drunken party thinking up riffs. The soulful vocals are modern in the delivery, but also reminiscent of garage favorites Detroit Cobras in depth and character. The end result is a mashup of punk, garage, and underlying hardcore that is electrifying, raucous, and instantly enjoyable.

Soul Solitary
Li Jianhong has been an important figure in the Chinese experimental scene since the late '90s, and he is always attached to his hometown, Fenghua, in Zhejiang province, China. The woods, the humidity, the rivulet, and the abandoned temples are where his soul wanders. 'Soul Solitary' is the latest approach in the universe of his free improv/noise guitar feedback works, featuring two captures of live recordings from 2018-2019 in France and China. In a more aggressive and dynamic arrangement, let's walk into this gloomy and hidden land of the soul, covered in endless rain and clouds. This album is also the first vinyl release since his 2009 album 'Lovers With Cloisonné Bracelet,' the same period as his P.S.F. album 'Classic Of The Mountains And Seas.' The album is a collaboration of Ramble Records (AUS), WV Sorcerer Productions (FR/CN), and Echodelick Records (USA), and features the magnificent artwork of Du Kun.

The Intercommunal Free Dance Music Orchestra was created in 1971 by French free jazz pianist legend François Tusques. 'Free Jazz' was also the name of the 1965 recording Tusques made along with Michel Portal, François Jeanneau, Bernard Vitet, Beb Guérin and Charles Saudrais. Six years later, in 1971 Tusques would go ahead of free jazz. Wondering if free jazz wasn't a bit of a dead end together with Barney Wilen ('Le Nouveau Jazz') or even solo ('Piano Dazibao' and 'Dazibao N°2'), Tusques formed the Intercommunal Free Dance Music Orchestra, an association under the banner of which the different communities of the country would come together and compose, quite simply. If at first the structure was made up of professional musicians from the jazz scene it would rapidly seek out talent in the lively world of the MPF (Musique Populaire Française). Compiling extracts from concerts given between 1976 and 1978, 'L'Inter Communal' demonstrate the "social function" which inhabited free jazz and popular music at the time calling upon Spanish singer Carlos Andreu along with Michel Marre, Jo Maka, Adolf Winkler and Jean Méreu. Andreu, claimed Tusques, was a griot "who created of new genre of popular song improvised with our music, based on events going on at the time." 'L'Inter Communal' can start the festivities: on 'Blues Pour Miguel Enriquez,' it is first Thelonious Monk who is invoked in an homage to one of the leading figures of the Chilean revolution, and a victim of Pinochet. The circumstances may be serious, the music, though, is not. The musicians light a bonfire to bring together on the same frequency France and Spain, the Americas and Africa: 'L'Heure Est A La Lutte' is the new song offered by the l'Intercommunal Free Dance Music Orchestra... As if proof were needed that their music is still more than timely!

In 1981, at the famous Paris address 28 rue Dunois, the pianist sang with his partner Carlos Andreu 'Le Musichien,' an Afro-Catalan tale over an exceptional bass line from Jean-Jacques Avenel backed by percussion from Kilikus, saxophones from Sylvain Kassap and Yebga Likoba and trombone from Ramadolf which presented a myriad of constellations. The sky has no limits, let's make the most of it. 'Les Amis D'Afrique' is recorded the following year, at the 'Tombées De La Nuit' festival in Rennes, bassist Tanguy Le Doré would weave with Tusques the fabric on which would evolve an explosive "brotherhood of breath": Bernard Vitet on trumpet, Danièle Dumas and Sylvain Kassap on saxophones, Jean-Louis Le Vallegant and Philippe Le Strat on... bombards. With hints of modal jazz inspired by Coltrane or Pharoah Sanders, the Intercommunal Free Dance Music Orchestra is an ecumenical project which speaks to the whole world.

...SAME AS IT ALWAYS HAS' - "In the afternoon of early November 2021 we set up our instruments amongs a room full of records at KOPN FM in Missouri for the Columbia Experimental Music Fest to play an hour of improvised music that was broadcast live to kick off the first day of the festival. We unveiled our musical stories through drones and phrasing dialogues as one binding unit. The session went so well that we decided to play as a trio again the following evening at the Firestone Baars Chapel opening for Yellow Eyes and here we present this recording on vinyl for Ramble Records." This first meeting as a trio was fueled by the masterful weaving and waving saxophone densities of Patrick Shiroishi, the glistening stampede of guitar by Chaz Prymek, followed by a textural nudge of drums by Thom Nguyen.

Reggae Vibration
Joe Yamanaka, born in Yokohama, was of mixed descent. His father was a US Army soldier who hailed from the Caribbean. He played psychedelic rock with the Flower Travellin' Band. He was also a philanthropist, travelling around the world to help people in countries where conditions aren't great. He himself was raised in harsh conditions as well, being born in a brothel and growing up in an orphanage. In post-war Japan, it was not easy for him to grow up looking racially different from his peers. Joe Yamanaka joined The Wailers after Bob Marley had passed away and recorded 'Reggae Vibration' with them. The very first track is also called 'Reggae Vibration' and can be seen as his introduction to the genre. Being a rock artist in his home country, you will still hear a strong rock influence in his songs.
